Easy online booking for car transport from Long Beach to Honolulu. I booked one month prior and they ended up cheaper than Pasha. Had questions and easily called in and had all my questions addressed. All necessary instructions for drop off were sent in an email. I worked out all the logistics of where I would get my car washed, what time I would get to Pier C, and arrange for a ride home. I chose Lyft. Time at the port took about 30 mins. It wasn't busy. I drove up, on entry, they have you pause in this area that has dozens of cameras facing the car. Only takes a few second, the proceed to park, check in inside the bungalow, then wait for someone to do the inspection. I was given my receipts and was told I could track shipment on their website. Upon drop off, I step out to the side walk and called my Lyft. I checked the link daily to see when it was loaded onto the vessel, when it was at sea, and when it arrived in Honolulu. Dropped it off on 10/10/22 and picked up on 10/20/22, just 10 days. I checked in at the pier office and waited about 8 mins before I was called. I was given time to check the vehicle before driving out out. Great experience all around and will definitely use them again. read more

Shipped a Toyota Prius from Kauai (Nawiliwili Port) to Long Beach CA. If you do not mind managing the details and logistics of pick up and drop off, shipping directly with Matson is more cost effective than a third party. Make sure you read everything on the website (especially port hours of operation) and how to prep your car for drop off. Keep your booking number accessible. PROS: -Cost effective compared to a third party -Vehicle tracking -Seamless pick up and good staff. -Able to email documentation and changes to pick up person/responsibility. CONS: -Have to pay for a reservation/booking number before starting any logistics with Matson. -The estimated delivery time is an "estimate."The car arrived 3 days early, which threw off my logistics a bit because I had to fly-in from out of state to pick it up. -I used a Lyft to get to Port C. Driver wasn't sure where to go once the GPS hit the address pin. Use the pin on Yelp to see where port C is actually located. Overall, I was happy with the experience. No damage to my car. Very smooth operation picking up the cars. I think the whole process took 30 mins from start to finish. All the employees were great. The only recommendation I have is to have the cars at least hosed down. Our cars liked they were outside the whole time. It's minor but just a suggestion. We had our truck shipped from California to Hawai'i. The drop off and pickup process wasn't too bad...however, in my opinion, the drop off and pickup locations should have better signage as we're not from California or Hawai'i, (nor are others shipping vehicles)...so navigating our way to the locations for drop off and pickup was a challenge in itself...even with our GPS. This place has streamlined performance down right! Every single employee I spoke with was knowledgeable and smart. I was able to pick up my car in about 13 minutes end to end. I especially want to give a shout out to Bobbi G! She was awesome, extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. She helped me with my paperwork and I am forever thankful. I had my reservations based on other reviewers and also the fact that I expected it to be a dingy, dirty, rude place like a auto shop usually is but to my surprise it wasn't. Even the security guard lady at the end was so nice. No damage to my car, everything was as I had left it when I shipped it and I definitely would recommend Matson to anyone else who would be shipping their vehicle. I am normally not a reviewer, but this situation has me very frustrated with Matson. I shipped my car to Honolulu nine months ago no problem. Then shipping it back to Long Beach I picked up my car yesterday after it arrived early and the car is INFESTED with roaches. I reached out to their claim team to try and get a partial reimbursement to bomb and detail the car and there response was absurd. They claim to not do an interior inspection on the vehicle before shipping so they cannot confirm this is not a previous condition in the vehicle. Yet when shipping from Hawaii to the mainland and I quote from their booking email they state: "PLEASE NOTE - Vehicles shipping from HAWAII to the MAINLAND UNITED STATES are subject to stringent inspections by the USDA prior to shipping. It is the responsibility of the shipper to have the interior and exterior of the vehicle thoroughly cleaned. Example: The USDA looks for clumps of mud in wheel wells or under the vehicle's carriage, under the hood of vehicles is also inspected, the USDA also looks for dirt, grasses, plant seeds in the interior as well as the exterior and for anything that they consider invasive to the U.S Continent. If you fail the USDA inspection Matson will be unable to ship your vehicle until the vehicle has been properly cleaned and re-inspected by the USDA." Because of this I got the car detailed before shipping to Hawaii and it was spotless. They claim to do stringent inspections but now say they don't? Seems like a lack of responsibility. I will continue to fight this with Matson and involve my bank if necessary but Matson's inability to do what's right by the customer is appalling. I am terrified of roaches and wont be able to use the vehicle until this is resolved, especially as I bought the vehicle two months prior to shipping. Won't use them again. read more

I know there are mixed reviews and unfortunate incidents for some but I shipped my truck to Oahu from Long Beach in 2015 and had no issues and now just picked my car I shipped from Honolulu to Long Beach and had the same good experience. I was shocked to see how clean my car was, it looked the same way from when I dropped it off on 3/11/22. Not a scratch or dent and hardly any gas used. I've dealt with all great customer service. I've never met a rude person on any occasion in both ports. It could be luck of the draw or it could be that when you go with a good attitude you are met with the same, idk I can only speak on my experiences and I appreciate the Aloha I've received! The process on both ends were easy and quick. Do start early on getting your paper work submitted. Make sure you call to get the exact drop off dates, it's usually a week before the car ships out. My car arrived 1-2 days early. It did suck that I received 3-4 calls from their Arizona office or atleast that's the number that showed up to let me know I can pick up the car, we were 3 hours behind so the phone rang at 4am a few times. If you have a loan or lease on your vehicle contact your lender to get their approval letter as soon as possible. My buddy was shipping his and GM Financial after a month a half sent it days before drop off and never signed the letter so he had to change his flights. I have Westlake financial and they emailed it to me within a week. Once you pay for your shipping, you will receive a letter asking you to email information, upload your registration and the letter if applicable. Then you'll get your confirmation. When you go drop off, you'll sit under a tent, they'll call your name, you go in the office to get your paperwork, I highly suggest you take your paperwork anyways just in case they don't have it. Better to be over prepared then have to leave to go get your stuff. You get your paperwork, you go in the gate to the inspection area, you leave your keys in the cup holder, go inside, finish up the paperwork and leave. read more

We've recently moved to Hawaii from California and shipped our 2 cars using Matson. The process was super easy for both dropping off and picking up. My husband booked a reservation and paid for the shipping online. They email you a confirmation and a checklist for dropping off your car. Make sure to have your car washed and the gas level below a quarter tank before dropping off. Once you arrive, you check in with the guard and then make a little stop in a tent with cameras so they can take pictures of your car. You'll park near the building and check in through the double doors on the right. Wait for your name to be called so someone can inspect your car. Once that's done, you'll drive it over to the shipping lanes and head back to the building for your receipt. You can track where your car on the Matson website using your booking number. All the employees were super nice and my car arrived earlier than expected. read more

This is my 2nd shipping experience with Matson. The 1st was from Hawaii to Long Beach and the 2nd was from Long Beach back to Hawaii. Getting the car here was better then sending it back. I got a call the Friday before presidents day saying they were going to be closed. Now keep in mind I called them twice, and emailed to be sure they were going to be open because it was a Holiday. They confirmed they were and then they weren't. I had to change my flight home. Ok, understandable. Then I get there Tuesday at 9, sign in and I'm immediately seen. So far so good. Then they tell me I have to wait for the inspection...Sure, I'll be patient. 3 HOURS later...I had to change my flight twice and ended up flying out of SNA. I just want them to streamline the process. There were at least 30 people waiting for as long as me. They opened at 8am. They should have been prepared and had twice the number of staff because they were closed the Holiday and doubled their shipments for receiving and dropping off. You are basically stuck in the waiting area. A number system like at the dmv would be helpful there. More inspectors would also be great. Hopefully my car makes it back to Hawaii ok. -Make sure your car is washed before you show up to ship it. -If you are flying out give yourself 4-5 hours, just in case. -uber pick ups from there are weird so don't walk in the street -eat before you go lol Another review will happen once I pick up my car in Honolulu. I have never shipped my car before. After reading some of the negative reviews I was a bit nervous. Instead of dealing with shipping agents, dealt directly with the shipper. I dropped my car off at Long Beach and twelve days later pick it up. The process was smooth and without incident. The staff was very courteous and helpful at both ports. I arrived on Tuesday and was waited upon immediately. Your car is photographed, from all sides and inspected. I pick up my car, a business day after it arrived and found the waiting area empty. I was allowed to inspect my car, by myself before signing release document. I was given a 30-day temporary registration, an information sheet on how to register it, and a free car wash ticket. Now, only if I can find long-term parking that easies on Hawaii. P.s. If you are thinking of taking the bus, it is a long walk on a very busy road with commercial traffic with no sidewalks. read more

Shipped three cars. They all got there on time or before. Being ahead of schedule created its own set of problems, but not going to put that into this review. The service is not friendly and the employees are friendly with each other but couldn't spell customer service. It's like we the customers are props in a world of their own. This is strictly a delivery from point A to point B business. They don't have much competition so they may feel no pressure to improve. My biggest problem with this company is they keep you waiting longer than necessary and they are dismissive and borderline rude to their customers. So, where do I begin? Let's start with the fact that the process to drop off a vehicle to be shipped takes " At least an hour and a half. " according to the "step 1" surly counter lady. Shipped my car from Oakland port to Hawaii last year with zero issue. Shipped my car from Hawaii to Long Beach this year (picked up my car on 10-19-2016) and they ripped my front bumper off breaking the 2 main mounts which are integral and can't be repaired. But even better is that someone thought it was a good idea to leave both of my driver side windows fully down through rain. Ruined my ultrasuede covered seats and there was still standing water in the floor of the car after a full day of 90 degree heat. Interior now smells like mildew and urine to top it all off. I am beyond disappointed in this company and I wish Yelp would allow users to give negative stars because it is not fair for me to give a star! We recently wanted to ship one of our vehicles to Hawaii and we were told that it should take no more than 2 weeks at most as it actually takes the ship 3 days to go from Long Beach to Hawaii. We thought two weeks is too long but we decided to do it as there were no cars available in all of Hawaii because all the car rental companies had sold their fleet at the beginning of the pandemic and when things eased up there was a shortage of cars from the manufacturers. So we were told to deliver our car to Long Beach, CA port a few days before the shipping date. We took our car to the port on June 28th, 2021. Waited for a confirmation that it shipped which didn't happen until sometime in July!! Then we waited two weeks and the car was still showing at sea!! Then we called Matson which takes hours on the phone because they don't care about customers because they are almost a monopoly!! We were told that we should receive the car in Kauai by July 21 to the 26th at the latest. Then we waited and waited and nothing happened. The 21st came and the car wasn't here, then the 26th came and no car and no indication of any possible dates. We had tp call Matson again and sit on the phone for hours and when we were able to talk to a person, there was no apology or explanation, we were told to just wait and not to call again and just go online and check and that went he car is here then we will know!!! I wrote customer services to try to reach a manager or for someone to call me back, I got no response whatsoever!! I have been in business for 30 years and have never seen anything like this!! Mind you, we have been renting a car for $500 per day (which is unheard of but is the rate for rentals here in Kauai because of the shortage of cars). We kept waiting until the first week in August until we received our car once again, no apology no explanation why it took over a month to arrive. This is the worst shipping company that I have ever dealt with. Try any other company as this company seems to not care!! Until this moment I have not been contacted by the company or their customer services. I will wait to see if they wake up and call to make this right. read more

Wow, Matson has been shipping to and from Hawaii for quite some time. I'm surprised that I'm the first reviewer! I had to help my girlfriend move to California from Hawaii and the last thing to ship out was her car. I went online and found out that Matson is a popular company to use. If you go to their website, everything is pretty straightforward (including pricing). We shipped her Mini from Honolulu to Long Beach (dropping it off in Honolulu and picking it up in Long Beach) at a cost of $1,100. Not bad. You can also track your vehicle online (or with their phone app). The car lot is near the corner of Pico and Pier C Streets and is easily accessible. The service at both terminals is fantastic and no hassles whatsoever! If I need to ship cars back and forth from Hawaii again I would definitely use Matson again. read more

I shipped my car from Long Beach, CA to Hilo, HI. I was really nervous about which car shipping company to move, especially after reading all the reviews online. I was totally freaked out, but I decided to go with Matson. I'm so glad I did. It was a little hard to find the drop off place in Long Beach, but I managed. My tank was too full so I had to come back the next day, but the office clerks were pleasant and efficient, as was the guy who handed me a fluorescent vest when I checked in. I was in and out within 15 minutes. No problem with the Hilo office either. They emailed me that my car was ready for pick up (2 days earlier than the estimated date of arrival) and we were there no longer than 15 minutes as well. Car was in good shape. No damage and no issues. I highly recommend Matson! Thanks guys! read more

I read some of the negative comments and of course I was worried.. I went with my intuitive gut instinct which told me to go with Matson's. 99.9%, your instinct is usually accurate. Super happy and grateful that I listened. Everyone at Matson's was friendly and helpful and best of all my FJ Cruiser arrived safe & sound ~ in perfect condition as I left it. Matson tells you 18 or more days as a cushion time to them, anything can happen in the deep open ocean waters...storms, huge waves, strong winds..you just don't know...or smooth sailing...I'm sure the employees who travel back n forth, on those ships aren't please when they run into rough weather. I'm just thankful & grateful for those employees who have to do this weekly, even tho they do get paid for what they do. It's a great reminder to those who forget what others do for work. Mahalo nui loa Matson! My car arrived in 10 days and was ready to pick up in two. It was a little dusty as expected. I highly recommend to get to the LB port early, I got there at 7:50am and there were already 5 people ahead of me. They open at 8. Highly recommend to take photos on your own, Matson only takes one snap shot of the exterior as you drive into the port. And NO interior pictures. Remove everything that is not permanently attached. Or anything that looks tempting to take. I removed one of the cargo covers, only because someone on Yelp said theirs were taken. I removed everything, including the dual set of rubber & original car mats and rear wheel cover. It was cheaper to mail separately then to replace with new ones later. I shipped my car with a grille guard and off road lights. Happy to see those were still attached. :) Go with what your intuition tells you. And above all, go with Aloha. ps...I'm just wondering if some of those negative comments were from their competitor - Pasha and vice versa.... We have shipped vehicles from San Diego to Cincinnati and Long Beach to the Big Island of Hawaii both using a 3rd party booking companies and used Horizon Lines to Hawaii and it was terrible! Week + late and no solid tracking availability! Matson was excellent!!! On a computer you can track your vessel across the ocean, and it was right on time to all ports!! The app is a MUST DOWNLOAD!! We received our car a day earlier than estimated pickup! Download the Matson App, and check it constantly! I received my curtesy call at 10:25am; but checked right at 8am and it said available!! Allowing me time to get there before they went to lunch at 11:30!!! We checked in at 11:15, and there was quite a few people ahead of me (5+). They called my name at 11:50 for Step 2 of the process. The check in ladies close at 11:30, so just make sure you're in there before then for Step 1. Step 2 stays open. Matson only services the Hilo port on the Big Island, and it is fairly easy to get to!! If you are shipping FROM Hawaii, take the extra time to CLEAN YOUR CAR! When we shipped from California to Hawaii it wasn't an issue- they just marked it dirty. In Hawaii, they are strict. Not a spec of dirt under the tire well, no leaves or dirt under the hood and they take compartments off to inspect (ie spare tire area). We have a dog and we had to spend an extra hour vacuuming out our Jeep from the dog hair, which is nearly impossible lol So take the time before! The staff in the Long Beach office are excellent, and really sweet ladies. There were a couple gentleman, but I didn't have any interaction with them. The directions to get to the port in Long Beach can be confusing. You'll follow it to Pier C, stay in the left lane marked for 'Cars Only'. Then look to your left and there is a Pick Up Drop Off sign and you'll enter there. The guard is a great guy, really really nice and friendly!!! Keep him around Matson!! I shipped my manual transmission FJ cruiser from LB to Maui and found that all of the shifter knobs were missing upon arrival as well as every compartment, glove box etc. was open and had been rummaged through. Also a couple of side panels had been pulled off in the cargo area. pay 1000 bucks for this? i look forward to the day when longshoremen are automated out of their jobs because robots wont steal my shit read more

First even when it isn't busy it's an inconvenience to even have the employees do their job. It seems that it bothers them if they have to get off websites that has nothing to do with their employment and help you. One lady was on her tablet and seemed a little disturbed when asked for help. It's unfortunate this bad Matson review is really a reflection of the lazy and overpaid Long Beach ILWU workers and NOT the Matson employees and management. I was in Los Angeles California for one full day to buy and ship a vehicle back to Honolulu. Everything was planning precisely to the "T". I had reservations from a week and a half out to drop off my vehicle at Matson in Long Beach to be shipped to Honolulu. The reservation mentioned very specific times to drop off the vehicle. I get there during those specified times, 15 minutes before the gate closes and 45 minutes before the drop off desk closes but the ILWU workers denied me from entering the gate. I pleaded with them and I told them i got there during the specified times and I have a flight back to Honolulu later that evening and if I miss the drop off I would have to pay for a hotel and pay a change fee to United Air. They could care less and just wanted to go home early. One ILWU employee even brought out his wallet and offered me $50 which I felt was insulting especially considering I'd be losing $1000+ in hotel and flight fees and lose wages as well as a lengthy and uncomfortable talk with a pissed off boss. Well, after 20 minutes of trying to get in, I was sent away while frantically calling hotels, my airline, and the boss. To make matters worse, my promised shipment time was pushed back a week. 2 weeks ETA is now 3 weeks. A manager from Matson eventually returned my call about a complaint I left for them and he eventually reimbursed my hotel and airfare fees ($500), but I still lost pretty significant money when factoring lost wages and taxi fares due to the postponed shipment. He also explained the reason my car was pushed a week back is because the original boat my vehicle was supposed to sail on is an older boat with antiquated equipment and there's a higher likelihood of damage to my vehicle. His explanation was: being that my vehicle is significantly more expensive than most others, they didn't want to risk damaging it. Fine, I'd rather wait a week than get a damaged vehicle. I need to reiterate, this situation was only with the ILWU workers, not the Matson employees. Matson employees were very kind and their customer service was awesome. And their manager was very prompt when he was handling my complaint. So why did I leave this one star review for Matson? Had I know I would have to deal with the Long Beach ILWU numbnuts, and that Matson uses outdated equipment/boats, I would've used Pasha to ship my vehicle. I have called Matson numerous times to follow up on our vehicle and each and every single time I received wonderful customer service. Very slow in processing your vehicle. Takes over an hour each time you are here to pick up or drop off your car. The staff at step 2 doesn't work for matson directly, union workers, so bring a lunch and entertainment because you will wait. No urgency to move quickly because they have no fear of getting in trouble at work. I'll pay extra to have my cars shipped with another carrier because of this. read more

I've Never Shipped my Vehicle before, this was a first time experience for me and it was the absolute worst. I recently move to Hawaii and shipped my vehicle to Oahu. Mason lost the key thru transit to my Vehicle and didn't reimburse me back for it. Some how another key was made for my Acura and my spare key no longer works. Its costing me $400 for Acura to reprogram my immobilizer system because someone deleted all original keys. I would not recommend anyone to use this shipping company read more
