We hired Ron to do the architectural plans for the remodel of a fourplex. He came in with a fancy camera scanner to measure everything, a very efficient process. He was very much on time with the delivery of the initial draft. We discussed minor changes and submitted to the city, and they had just had a few minor corrections before approval, which is better than other architectural teams I have worked with. After we began work on the project, we discovered a beam in the ceiling was not pointing in the right direction, leading to the need for a revision to the plans. The engineer Margarito went on site and approved changes, which allowed us to quickly adapt. Overall this was a very streamlined process, I would be happy to use his services in the future and can very much recommend him.

Even months later, they've still been responsive with follow-up questions from our contractor. Would definitely recommend, especially for smaller renovations or additions.

As this is my first project, I had no idea what to expect and pretty much am surviving the process by the 'ignorance is bliss' motto because I blindly trusted him. My gut instinct was not wrong. I was the first to review Brian Scott Building Design many years ago, and had since referred a…read morefriend to Brian. When it was time to do another remodel, of course I hired Brian. I am sad to say, the quality of work, the responsiveness, the attention to detail, all gone. Our "planning" that was supposed to take a couple months is more than 2 years in the making. Perhaps Brian's company got too busy during the pandemic, or maybe there were too many other people doing some of the work, or maybe the stress of the pandemic was too much. I go to work everyday as a frontline worker, and I expect others to do the same, to maintain their professionalism. I don't think this is too much to ask. Through these 2 years, we had to constantly bug Brian for updates, and we often got the feeling that he was avoiding our calls. He was definitely not proactive or concerned for our time. After extensive discussions during in person meetings, apparently he did not take any notes and did not remember what was discussed, so changes did not get drawn into the plans. He would of course not remember the encounter at all, so we started sending him emails with itemized lists of issues. He would often brush off some of our concerns. And for the changes he would make, new plans would have some pages with the new version but some pages with the previous version. Once or twice he literally brought over the wrong plans for our meeting, and had to reschedule after we had already blocked off our own work schedules to meet with him. This level of disorganization makes us wonder whether he sent the correct plans to the engineer. We finally got our plans through the city. But when we tried to get bids from contractors, we were told there were additional details missing. When we asked Brian to add these, he was unresponsive. Pretty much we are ready to give up on the remodel altogether and look for a house to move instead.
