Wow. If you are pinot noir fan, this is the place for you. They have a variety of amazing pinots that are all different but delicious. They also have some great zinfandels. The property is beautiful. Very nice experience with Matrix Winery. As a Delormier club member I had the privilege to taste the many pinots at Matrix. The tasting room is being fixed so you get to taste in the cellar/storage facility. The location is very nice on Westside Road in deep Sonoma... minutes from Healdsburg. The tasting was very generous and informative due to Amanda, the person who helped me. She was truly charming and knowledgeable, and very motivated to give me the best possible experience. She knew so much about the wines, their history, the winery history etc. This is surprisingly rare in many of the wineries I have been to recently. A truly fantastic experience... Thanks Amanda!! The wines were great especially the reserve Pinots and 50/50 blends. They vineyard designate Pinots will match any other winery in the local area and can occasionally hit the brilliant to world-class status. These are really well made wines and rather great prices. I would say that I will remember Matrix very fondly. The experience was very fun and positive and the people were truly kind. read more

Favorite winery in the Russian River Appalachian. Lovely Pinots and they're winery grounds are a beautiful place to roam.

Matrix is ALWAYS on our must go to when in Sonoma. The Zins are legendary along the Russian River as are the Pinots. The new tasting room is a big improvement, but manages to keep that nice old style RR vibe. Tasting events are well planned and fun. Matrix is my favorite winery on the RRV. read more

Another delicious Winery from the Wilson family. Diane Wilson is one of my favorite winemakers (she can't make a bad wine!) and she makes the wines at Matrix. While they mostly have Pinots, Matrix also have some surprisingly good Zinfandels and blends. This is a small tasting room, which is kind of nice when you want a break from the larger, more touristy wineries. Also, the staff is always SUPER friendly and helpful. Andriana is the manager there and you couldn't ask for a more fabulous person. I've also been helped by Anne and Patrick, and have ALWAYS had a good experience. When my daughter is in town she also likes to take her friends to Matrix because they get the royal treatment. It has always been a pet peeve of mine when wineries don't treat younger tasters (like my daughter) the same as they treat me. I've never had that problem at Matrix. 6 stars if I could! read more

An absolutely fantastic winery with a friendly and knowledgeable staff! Complements to Patrick who made our visit very enjoyable.Every wine was delicious. The grounds are very nice .The tasting room is beautiful and overlooks vineyards and their outside patio. The patio includes a fountain, plenty of outdoor seating for picnicking Enjoyed my visit! They are known for their Pinot ( Gold medal winners multiple years) and it isn't hard to see why. Their wine maker is excellent - The wine has a good flavor from each sip. Not on our original schedule, but I am glad we stopped here. One can taste indoors or sit outdoors under the shade of wisteria or sun umbrella or in the sun. The 2009 Sauv Blanc is light and fruity for only $18. Stuhlmuller Chardonnay for $36 is a bargain with a taste of roasted almond butter and fresh edible flowers. We bought a 2008 Boschetti Zin for $28 and a couple bottles of 2008 Bacigalupi Petite Syrah for $32 - a steal. read more

Someone once told me that the only wine club I should join is with a winery where I liked every wine they made. I figured I would never find something that good. I stand corrected. I stumbled across Matrix in December of 07. It happened to be their grand opening. We loved every wine we tasted. Though it wasn't until our third trip that I finally broke down and joined there club. By that point I had tasted almost all of their wines. Their Bordeaux blends were at the top of the list. Since then, I proposed to my wife over a bottle of Matrix Pinot and we've opened some sort of Matrix wine for every special event since. We served it at our wedding and my toast to my wife was with a Matrix Pinot, rather than Champagne. I highly recommend Matrix for a stop along the River Wine Road. read more

I agree with the review posted below- except I don't drink Whites.. so Red lovers beware. I really didn't care for any of their wines. Nothing spoke to me or stood out. I also felt like the pourers were doing a "job" rather than just pouring a maintaining converstaion. I realize I don't appear to be your usual wine goer- but I do at least want to enjoy the people pouring the wines. However, the grounds are very beautiful! read more

This place has it going on, big time. Great wine tasting experience. Outstanding customer service, and such a surprise to find a pinot house in dry creek valley. Their pinots and zins are remarkable. Tasting fee is currently a very reasonable five dollars, waived per bottle purchased. They are part of the Wilson family winery group, if you are a wine club member of one of their wineries, you are a family member at all of their wineries! Meh. Didn't really like any of the wines, except the Petite Syrah. We had a pretty big group and the service was so-so, wasn't paced very well with so many wines, so we were rushed trough the last four wines. Seems like someone was having a bad day and it showed. We ended up being almost late to our next appointment, and this was after we said multiple times to the staff that we had a hard stop at a specific time and that we were concerned that the wine tasting wasn't moving very fast. read more

If you're like me and it's "been a while" then you'll remember this location as Rabbit Ridge. Beautiful tasting room, great wines. Actually I liked the wines better today. I enjoyed that fact that the wines still had their fruit intact. The chardonnay is approachable without the overwhelm of excessive malolactic fermination or oak, pinot noir shows its fruit, and zin is jammy without being an alcohol bomb. We went for Winter Wineland, and look forward for returning on a quieter day with a picnic. read more

My friend's and I bumped into this place as we were wine tasting around Healdsburg and Sonoma. We loved all the wines so I had to join the club. I received my 6 bottles, and I have no regrets. This winery was the 2nd on my stop today. Very "California." It was pretty modern, and had a lot of outdoor seating that faced their beautiful vineyard. If only it wasn't so hot, we would have sat out there with our wine! The heat won, and we sat a the wine bar inside. Our server was so nice! She has a son who's my age, and was talking all about him to me. I almost felt like we were friends afterwards (in a good way). Unfortunately, they were sold out of my favorite Chardonnay, so I didn't buy a bottle. Service: outstanding. Wine: almost outstanding. Ambiance: pretty darn good. read more

Big thank you to the friendly staff at Matrix, especially Zach, for being such generous and knowledgeable hosts! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at the tasting room, and I was especially taken by the density and complexity of the 2008 Petit Syrah. The Pinots are excellent too, especially the Bacigalupi Reserve - totally love that chilli pepper finish. Zach not only showed us the vineyard, but also took the time to answer many of our questions about the property as well as their winemaking process. He also kept the wine flowing, and if not for the fact that we eventually demurred (we had to drive back to Sebastopol), I am convinced that he would have continued pouring. Given the narrow roads in Healdsburg, we would have probably driven into a ditch. Just before we left, Zach gave us a huge paperbag so we could help ourselves to the oranges and lemons growing on the property. We were overwhelmed by our great experience at this winery - top notch people, top notch wines. read more

Currently my favorite wines in the Dry Creek area, so much so that we joined the wine club. Ever had one of those wines that smells fantastic only to find the taste disappointing, well Matrix doesn't have one of them. Most of the wines are extremely well balanced, from the initial nose, the initial taste and the aftertaste. My favorite was a Zin that had a distinct mango flavor to it, which sounds nasty but it really worked for me. We also liked the tasting room and surroundings, so peaceful. read more

OMG What a great place!! I am a Russian River regular with a home in the area and I thought I knew all the great wineries. Boy was I wrong, I stumbled upon Matrix this fall with some friends all summer home owners in the area, we stopped in and stayed tasting and buying some great Pinot's. I bought 2 cases of the 2007 Zin for Thanksgiving and its all gone. I had to go back on New Years day to get more. I stayed and chatted with 2 of the most delightful people I felt right at home. Very pleasent experience, MATRIX is a MUST if you are on Westside rd. But shhhhh don't tell everyone we want to keep this treasure a secret.. Happy New Year to all at Matrix!!! read more

This review isn't about the wine or the lovely grounds at Matrix. It is only about the small print regarding the wine club membership. We visited the winery last summer and enjoyed what we tasted, bought a couple of bottles and joined the wine club on a whim. The membership immediately saved us a percentage on the couple of bottles we bought and we've received two shipments since. Realizing that it is unlikely we'll be back that way and that shipping is costly, I asked to cancel our membership only to be told that I am under contract to continue for a year. I must buy two more shipments. I've never run into that before in the many other wine clubs I've joined and terminated so I was surprised and wanted to warn other impulsive wine club joiners to read the fine print before joining this club. read more

I cannot say enough about the experience you will have at Matrix. You can taste at the bar inside, but can also enjoy the incredible adjacent patio with views that will knock your socks off. We joined another Wilson Family winery and as club members get to taste free at all of their wineries. So, we stopped here. I'm so glad we did. We probably never would have tried this place otherwise. The tasting room itself is nothing special. However, the really liked the wines. We ended up buying a mixed case special. We are red wine drinkers (primarily Zins), but they had a Chardonnay that was really wonderful. The Zins were great too. read more

We have wonderful visits there, you have to taste and buy the Pinot Noirs here, even the Zinfandel's outstanding :) We had the privilege of having Darria Kosich serve us very personally, and we had the best experiences with her there this year. We had to come back for more, and even buy futures. Darria even introduced us to Antoine Favero when he stopped by, it was great to thank him personally for his great wine making! Darria taught us a lot about the current vineyards being grown, harvested and available now as well as futures. Can't wait to go back again, great wine and great service :) read more
