Lovely setting, lovely wines! Staff seemed quite friendly and knowledgeable. The views are great from the tasting room, but especially lovely on the wisteria covered patio overlooking the pond. We are St. Anne's Crossing wine club members (love their zins!!!) and this is a fantastic perk to have free tastings and wine club discounts at this winery as well. We loved our time here a few weeks ago! read more

I really enjoyed matrix. The tasting was wonderful. The staff was excellent. I had a wonderful experience

I'm a huge pinot fan and am making it my mission to explore "everything pinot" in Sonoma county. And since Matrix is noted as a leader in pinot wines, we stopped by to check it out. The scenery by the lake on the patio was beautiful, and the wine was delicious. Two months later, after being underwhelmed by another notable pinto winery, I stopped by with a friend to pick up a couple bottles for dinner. Even though we didn't have a reservation, Sawyer, the manager, treated us to a mini tasting. I loved it so much I joined the club. These will be some of my favorite go-tos from here on out. read more

We went here for this first time and had a wonderful experience! The view is incredible, we had a seat outside looking at the river. Our server was so nice and accommodating! We told her that we love Pinots and she even gave us some extra pours. All of their wines were delicious but our favorites were all of the Pinots and the Zin. We will definitely be back! read more

A delightful lady was the hostess. We had a wonderful chat with her on a slow Tuesday afternoon. Got to exchange stories of her life in France. Tasted all the wines they were pouring. Didn't buy any. read more

This was one of my favorite wineries in Healdsburg. One of our friends is a member here so we needed to stop by to pick up her shipment. When we arrived they had a jazz trio outside on the patio playing live music, the service was amazing. They treated us like we were family. We were outside trying to keep hydrated and drinking lots of water with our wine and one of the ladies kept coming to refill the wine glasses. After a few of us declined, we told her we were at the end of a very long day of wine tasting and needed more water, she came back with a plate of crackers, cheeses, and fruit to balance out the effects of the wine. The wine was good (I only tried the whites) but I added a star for the crazy logo with the woman with the arrow through her chest. How romantic is that? read more

Came in on Labor Day and had a great tasting. We decided to sit inside since it was so hot out, but their patio was beautiful. A woman brought her little dog into the tasting room, which I loved! I hope to come back with my dog in the future. We were told about an upcoming event they have called Pups and Pinot -- how cute is that? Debby poured our wines and she did such a fantastic job. She is so knowledge of each wine and you can tell how much she loves her job. We all enjoyed their rose, chard, pinots, petite sirah, and zinfandel. Overall we had a great experience and would definitely go back. read more

I hate to leave a low review because their wines are delicious, but this is the 2nd time we went (with members no less) and had just terrible service. The first time we went in Nov 2018 we got there about an hour before close and they refused to open bottles of wines included in the tasting if they didn't already have them open. One of the girls that was with us was slower than the rest of us and the host refused to "go back" and pour ones she missed because she got behind the rest of the group. This weekend (March 2020) we gave it another chance and again had a different rude host. When asked if we were here for the Sonoma barrel tasting, we said no we're just here for the members tasting and he said "oh that's going to be a problem." Not sure why, the place was empty and they were still offering regular tastings? He continued to be insulting and condescending to us and another member that came in the entire time. They have great Pinots and pretty location, so it was really disappointing the service isn't better. read more

Matt was AMAZING!!! He was more than knowledgeable, super friendly and a wonderfully professional representation of a premier brand. We were so grateful for the super memory Matt made for us today. Well done! read more

Won't be returning. We have gone there a few times over the last few year with friends who are (read that WERE) wine club members. We went there to pick up their wine. Walked in, no greeting. Okay...I guess the 3 employees were overwhelmed by the total of 10 people in the entire place. Our friends asked about their wine, and mentioned we might sit outside and do some tasting. Mind you, there are over 12 tables outside, one of which was occupied. The ASSHOLE behind the counter asked, with a straight face "well, do you have a reservation?" I laughed, my friends laughed, my wife laughed. He didn't. He was serious. Dead serious. We said we hadn't ever made one in the past, that we didn't even know you could. He went on to explain in one of the most condescending tones how their policy had changed recently, how that if we had checked the website we would KNOW this, and how he could definitely not serve us outside, because apparently pouring wine out of the same bottle to another group seated outside is some kind of rocket science, Harry Potter wizard shit. Our friends asked if they had sent out this new info to the long standing faithful wine club members. They had not. So..when the manager finally came out, and went through the same spiel..that pretty much did it. No apology. No explanation, just a really weird "well, that's our new policy" kind of vibe. Did I mention NO ONE was there? Dave and Pam cancelled their membership then and there. We still sat at the table and ate some of our picnic, opened our own bottle from Kokomo, and enjoyed ourselves. All while watching the 3 employee deal with a total of 6 other people without seeing the big picture. I suppose we owe them some thanks, as we went there with the intention to join the wine club that day and buy a case. They saved us a bunch of money. read more

Great pinots. Huge outdoor space. Fun people. Dog friendly! We went during the annual Barrel Tasting weekend and even though it was really busy and we didn't have tickets, they welcomed us for a tasting for the regular fee (don't remember what it was, but I do remember it was surprisingly low.) The Buoncristiani Reserve was my favorite out of them all. There are a lot of fabulous wineries in Sonoma, but I would definitely come back to this one. read more

We were treated very badly because we happened to drop in without reservation. There were at least a dozen open tables. What an amazing discovery we had last weekend. We visited Matrix Winery during the Winter Wineland and boy were we impressed. They feature a fantastic lineup of Pinot Noir sourced from a few very well known vineyards in the area, and every wine that we tried was enjoyable. Their staff was friendly and let us know we could picnic on their patio or next to their bocce ball court. A+ hospitality, we'll definitely be back. read more

Having been a first-time visit for me I have to say that the wines were impressive. I enjoyed the barrel tasting previews for up and coming Pinots, the "Nunes" was fantastic, but the Chardonnay seemed to steal the show. This small space invites anyone and everyone who can fit. With just a few staff on hand it can get quite crowded so be patient. The wine club is a great price and the service is friendly and knowledgeable. Take a scenic drive, while sipping on some wines along the way. read more

My brother took me to Matrix a few weekends ago and it was probably the worst wine-tasting experience I've ever had. It started with the tasting room attendant. He couldn't keep track of what he was pouring for each of us, forgetting who was ready to taste which underwhelming Pinot on the list (more on that later). Then he asked us (me, my two brothers, my brother's fiance, and my partner) if we were Republicans. We are not. He called us "lost souls." Meanwhile, as he ignored us between pourings, he showed another couple his son's Myspace page. Apparently his son is a tattoo artist. His son's Myspace page had a few racist images on it - an SS logo, for example - which were in full view to the rest of the tasting room. He then asked us where we're from. My brother and his fiance live in Modesto. The attendant regaled us with a story about how he moved his family to Modesto from Orange County but it didn't last very long. Apparently his kids refused to go to school because they weren't used to associating with brown people. Rather than tell his kids to quit being racists and go to school with the Latino kids, they moved back to OC. He said this in front of my half-Mexican partner. On top of this unprofessional, racist behavior by the attendant, their wine was nothing special. Try Porter Creek instead. It's just down the road, and more deserving of your time and money. read more

I started coming to Matrix after becoming a member at Mazzocco. I love getting free tastings at the sister wineries! Matrix is nestled among some other favorite Westside road wineries so we like to stop by here when we have time. It's an especially nice place to visit when the weather is nice because you can leisurely enjoy your tasting out on the patio and return inside for additional pours. Make sure you've had plenty to eat if you're a member. The five selections on the tasting menu turns into ten as they let you try members only selections. It can be dangerous. With each visit, I have taken home a chardonnay and/or pinot noir. The Bacigalupi and Buoncristiani selections are my favorites. Come by and enjoy some good wine in a relaxed setting. Bring your dog too because they are very pup-friendly. read more

Stopped here for the first time. When it was Rabbit Ridge, I always drove by...RR was very so so product imho. Was the last stop of the day, so I am always hesitant to make too many comments when the tastebuds have been inundated. A very interesting gentleman of a pourer who was to say the least entertaining. The location is good, wine room comfortable, casual. I can't say I was overly impressed with the wines....their two new Pinots were remarkably mediocre. I did enjoy their signature bordeaux blend. Its worth checking out for everyone, at least once...may give it a second try sometime. cheers! read more

Visited here during the Barrel Tasting 2010, as it was highly recommended by my friend who's a trusted wine expert. And Matrix delivered; the atmosphere and ambiance were really cool. They were offering: 2009 Pinot Noir Buoncristiani Vineyard and 2008 Zinfandel Boschetti Vineyard. It was really an amazing experience to taste those young wines. I'm curious to see how they will taste when they finally are bottled. read more

Really did not particularly like any of the wines here, and the staff also were not entirely knowledgeable. The one redeeming factor was that my friend was a member here and gets free tastings. Also, their outdoor patio area overlooks an amazing view of the Russian River Valley. Other than that, very unimpressed by the wine selection. read more

My husband and I stopped by Matrix on a whim on a drive through the Russian River Valley---we were glad we stopped. The tasting room staff was extremely friendly and we had a great time talking to them and another couple that was also there tasting. The informal atmosphere encouraged conversation. Matrix is a small winery with a very consistent house style. Their case production of each wine was listed as between 200-300 cases. I took notes as I tasted each wine and kept repeating the same words: "fruit-forward, complex, balanced, restrained, smooth finish". These are food friendly wines; they are good on opening and don't need to be aged to be approachable. These are not the huge, big wines of Napa -- but they are favorful , structured and complex. They are at a decent price: ~$30/$35 for their standard wines to ~$45 for their reserves. Standouts for me included: * the Pinots. You can see why the Russian River Valley is known for their Pinot Noir. Matrix had five different Pinots --we particularly liked four of them---from two different vineyards, one standard and one reserve from each. I've read about 'terroir" but am too much of a wine novice to normally taste the difference it makes in wines--here I could definitely taste the difference between the two vineyards. Matrix's Pinots were fruit-forward with a complex middle and a longer finish that didn't 'drop off' (forgive me if that is not the phrase I'm supposed to use) like other Pinots I've tasted. I really enjoyed them. * the Chardonnay. A disclaimer here, I still love oaky Chardonnays. My husband loves the modern, crisp clean grapefruity Chardonnays. Normally one of us 'loves' a Chardonnay, and the other just likes it. We both loved Matrix' Chardonnay. It was crisp, clean and grapefruity for my husband but with a smooth finish for me. * the Zin --- as my husband said, "if you blindfolded me, I wouldn't know that was a Zin" --- there was no discernable pepper! I like peppery Zins, but found this style very interesting and a refreshing change. This is a very fruity, balanced, complex and food friendly Zin. We walked out of Matrix with 6 bottles of wine (the Chardonnay, the four Pinots and the Zin). We'll definitely be back. read more

The wine herr was amazing! The ambiance was spectacular and so was the service! I would highly recommend!!!

Great wines, friendly staff and great location. I love small, boutique wineries that really get how to make a great tasting wine. I will admit that I'm a bit of wine snob so not any wine will do, this place has great wines that range from $30-50. If you like reds and like pinot then this is a great winery to visit. read more

Review for wine only .... I daydream about their 2006 Bordeaux. Not kidding. Ever since we visited in August and polished off the two bottles we bought, I recall its taste from memory daily. Finally broke down and ordered three bottles. Don't bother ordering through their website, you are better off ordering by phone. MFH filled out info on the web and simply got a message that they would call back. They never did. read more

Great winetasting experience. Been there four times now. Shout out to Zach, Samuel and Karen. Friendly staff, great pinots and zins. hip.

Matrix Winery has good wine and friendly people pouring. It was our first visit here. This is another of the Wilson wine group, where it's hard to find a bad wine. At Matrix, the Pinots were especially good, with several to choose from. We bought a case of Pinot that was half price for club members. Now that's a good reason to belong to a wine club! read more

What a wonderful little winery! The woman who poured wines for us was really engaging and kind, and the tasting room was bright and inviting. The mood was just light and warm--between the pourers and other tasters, we learned not only about their wines, but also about wine events throughout the year, easy Thanksgiving recipes, even the dog adoption process. The wines are what I would call "quintessential" to the region, and it sounds like the vineyard owners are proud and passionate and want to put forth great product. The funniest (and most fun) part of our visit was when we had tasted several wines and were very excited about the generous pours, and we thought we were finished, but then we went on to page two, and then page three! I'm so glad it was our first winery and mid-afternoon at that. I particularly loved their Chardonnay and Zins. There is definitely a push for the club, but it was far from aggressive. Matrix is relatively young, so I'll be watching what they do over time! read more

I nominate the Matrix cat for the cover of "Winery Cats of Sonoma"... is there such a book? This aloof cat is trying to bring sexy back. I wonder if he grew up in Napa. Wonderful experience here for my first ever wine tasting experience. Finickiness runs in my genes and I'm very particular when it comes to gourmet anything. although I'm very new to wine in general, all the wines they had to offer (mainly Pinot Noir's and Zin's) were amazingly good. $35 for a bottle of great wine. In my opinion this is not too expensive but nor is it cheap. Just the way i like it! The female and male duo helping us that day were friendly and knowledgeable just like i expect. i will definitely go back when i have a chance. read more
