I went for coffee and ran into the problem Americans run into when they want coffee in Rome. You can't get coffee to go, and sometimes you can't really get coffee at all. "Takeaway coffee": In Italy, it's Not A Thing. On the other hand, Matrem makes some nice breads and pastries. I only tried a couple things, but they were both good. Brownies were not overly sweet (lots of Italian pastries I ate were overwhelmingly sugary) and cornettos (croissants) were light and tasty. Staff didn't speak very much English (and I don't speak very much Italian) but they did their best to interpret and explain things to me. read more
