Ordered the Al Pastor tacos during Happy Hour ($12 for 3 tacos, original is $19) around 3 PM. The Al Pastor was flavorful and the added pineapple added a subtle and nice acidic taste. I would recommend it. Flour tortillas were soft and warm. The Trio Fajita platter was my favorite dish here and is highly recommended. The shrimp was delicious. Every meat was well seasoned. Flour tortillas were soft and warm. The corn tortillas on the fish tacos were abysmal. I think they were old/stale as they were stiff and broke apart immediately when holding the taco and you had to eat the filling with a fork. Would not get corn tortillas here. Mango and guava margaritas were refreshing with Tajin on the rim was also refreshing, sweet, and easily palatable. During Happy Hour it was $7-9 depending on the flavor. Service was quick, 10-15 minutes from ordering to food coming out. The restaurant wasn't busy at the time, we were the only diners at 3 PM. No indoor seating. It's only outdoors alongside the street. It was a well decorated and clean area. Summers in Miami are humid and hot in the 90F (32C) and there are fans pointed at the dining areas for a nice breeze. Thoughtful touch. I would come back here for the food again. It is standard pricing for Miami fare food near the beach. It is pricey, but in-line with neighboring competitors. I saw this place when I was visiting Miami, and surprise surprise, it was Taco Tuesday! They had this bomb deal: 3 tacos of your choice for $12. Started off with a Spicy Passion Fruit margarita. Get it! This was the closest I could get to have real Passion Fruit outside of Maryland, and it was delicious. As for the tacos, I got ordered the Impossible Beef tacos as part of the deal. Juicy, flavorful, and the accompanying sauces were equally great too. Try the paleta's here too! The margarita was so good in fact the server already decided to put another one in. It's funny how the conversation happened: Server: "I put another drink in case you liked it." Me: "Appreciate it! Although I have head to a training in a bit." Server: "Ah no problem, have a second one, and you'll be good to go! Clearly the servers there are more personable than in the DMV. After getting mentally blissed out from the yoga at South Pointe Park, finding Matilda's Taco Bar brought my belly pretty close to a happy place! It's located right by 4th and Washington, and has plenty of outside seating including a "VIP" area with turf. The inside space is pretty cool too, especially with the bathroom occupying what was the walk-in freezer of the previous tenant! The menu is Tex Mex classics, with a pretty good bar program. Clarissa my waitress was attentive with my meal courses and sharp with her recommendations. Although the chips aren't complimentary they do come with three different salsas: pico de gallo as well both green and red salsas. The chips had a good crisp to them, and the green salsa had a nice sweet heat to it. My mojito was a pretty good cure for the Sunday scaries, and the shredded chicken burrito bowl was keto friendly with a large amount of chicken, and not a lot of rice. It could have used a little more spice though. My cheating flan had just the right amount of the jiggle and wasn't overwhelmingly sweet. Definitely a wonderful spot for a day (or night) on the beach! read more

I came here on a Friday around 6pm because I was in the area. I wasn't looking to drink, but I was hungry. I had a hard time trying to decide what to get because there were plenty of options. I ordered the chicken flautas ($15) and they were decent. Very crunchy, but the portion was a little small. Also, it was pretty hard to eat. The server was nice and attentive. After spending far too much time & money on the tourist trap that is the South Beach strip, my husband and I finally walked a couple of blocks inland to find our saving grace: Matilda's Taco Bar. Not to be dramatic, but this place gave us hope for the food of Miami. The restaurant is actually very small inside where you order at the counter before sitting down at one of the colorful picnic tables outside. Service was friendly and fast. We got a spread of tacos (baja shrimp, fish, suadero, pollo, etc), shrimp tostadas, chips & guac, and frozen margs. All I can say is YUM. The guac tasted so fresh, the margs were admittedly not strong but so refreshing, and the tacos and tostadas were mouthwatering. Do yourself a favor and wander away from the South Beach strip and in a few blocks to find good food - you may just stumble upon a delicious gem like Matilda's! read more

The street tacos were good and somewhat authentic in flavor but I couldn't believe I paid $18.00 for three street tacos when I could get authentically de-licious street tacos elsewhere for $2.00 each. The street tacos at Matilda's are served in sets of three. And they do not allow you to order a combination of other tacos or "mix and match." So if you want a carne asada, grilled shrimp, and carnitas taco, you would have to order three carne asada, three grilled shrimp, and three carnitas rather than one order with three different kinds of tacos, which would've been the better business model. Because of that I ordered only one set, carne asada, which came with a small ramekin of rice and black beans. The location of Matilda's is very close to the Washington Avenue and 5th Street intersection. On my trip to South Beach Matilda's outdoor seating provided a nice respite from the hustle and bustle of crowds on Washington Avenue or neighboring Ocean Blvd. read more

Several tables. The shop and seating area had nice esthetics and the turf made it look unique with colorful picnic tables. It was what attracted us to eat there. Areas were clean and spaced out nicely. Outdoor dining was entertaining right by the street. Got a little loud but it was part of the fun. Service was fine. Nothing extraordinary. Not really family/kid friendly. No kid menu. If kids like a unique menu, it would be fine. These tacos were not traditional, they were unique crafted flavors. Matilda's Taco Bar serves some of the best Tacos I've ever tasted. The salsas go from mild to fire, however all have a delicious taste. The queso fundido was topped with an amazing, shredded chorizo that took it over the top and the chips were fresh and lightly salted. My wife, daughter and I all ordered the Birria Tacos and WOW what a true surprise. The shredded beef was really tender and seasoned to perfection. The Oaxaca cheese was mild and fused the meat and shells in a tasty manner. The corn taco shells were tasty and toasted to a slight tender crunch. The consomé aka Birria is a rich stew served as a dipping sauce for the already juicy tacos. Amazing! Simply Amazing! The service was spectacular! Our server was a lady named Belkis and she was very professional, attentive and served us with a warm and inviting style. She was friendly and managed the outdoor dining experience like a 5 Star establishment. Sergio was the cook, and I can't describe what an excellent meal he prepared. The food and the plating were both excellent. The décor was nice, outdoor seating was comfortable but I'm not gonna lie the only negative was that the tables were a bit sticky. Now let's talk dollars and sense not cents. Matilda's is located on Prime real estate in one of the top destinations in the country and you're not going to pay taco truck prices here. When we did the math we realized the Birria Tacos cost $8 each and again I promise you the taste is out of this world. The canned sodas were almost $4 each. The Chips were $8 and the queso was $5. Come on really? Does that sound crazy prices for Tacos 3 blocks from Ocean Drive in South Beach? Yes, there's an automatic 18% gratuity but our server earned that and the additional we gave. They serve wet dishes like Chilaquiles and Nachos on platters with paper on the bottom. You will basically end up eating paper. I tried to explain this to the server but he didn't understand and that really bothered me. We liked the food enough we were going to let that slide (!!) but things kept going downhill. One time I ordered nachos with jalapenos and they told me they didn't have any. How could you run a Mexican restaurant and NOT have jalapenos?
