I don't often bother to review bad places, but Abuela's is exceptional, providing the worst food I had on this trip. Maybe the worst food I've had this year. In fact, when you factor in the price (see my photo of the receipt) . . . urgh - yes, the worst meal this year. Congratulations on that accomplishment, Abuela's Tacos Latin Restaurant Miami Beach; you struck me as flat-out terrible. We came here because it was near our hotel and we needed to call it an early night. We almost visited the Mexican place next door, but we'd had a referral from a couple who'd enjoyed the margaritas at Abuela's so . . . my suffering begins. 7-11-quality nachos at ludicrous pricing, but at least I had Immodium AD for the air travel the next day. Ugh. I don't want to speculate on the meat in the terrible tacos my wife ordered. We eat a lot of Mexican from various areas, but every bit of this was just wrong, Wrong, WRONG! Never went inside; sat streetside and watched the bizarre parade of Collins Avenue happen. At least there were pretty hotels to look at, although the tables were crowded pretty closely together. Our disinterested waiter seemed pleasant enough but disappeared for quite a while when I needed my second BOGO beer; at least he wound up with a hefty automatic tip thanks to the absurd pricing. Seriously: not even airport-quality food. Just don't - please, just don't.

Abuelas is a decent Mexican spot. It's a cool small spot with tables inside and outside with typical sombreros and other Mexican type regalia inside. The service levels are so so pretty much going through the motions. But the rub is they charge 20% service fee to every order. No notification no minimum. Number of dlners. Food was a base hit. Had the birria tacos which were decent too. A bit greasy. Comes w a small side of rice consume and black beans along w 3 tacos

Cute taqueria with a friendly and attentive staff!! I was in Miami for a business trip and met with a colleague for dinner the night before our meetings started. We arrived early for a 7pm reservation and were seated right away. The restaurant actually got busier as the night went on and had a good crowd for a Monday night. We were given chips and salsa before we ordered. Chips were crisp, flavorful and light. I tried the salsa verde and appreciated its flavor and the slight kick of heat that it offered! I had veggie tacos for my entree. Soft tortillas filled with sautéed mushrooms, onions, peppers and shaved Brussels sprouts combined to make a flavorful and filling meal. I arrived ravenous and left sated!

Pros: amazing service! I went for a birthday party and they really gave us a great and comfortable experience. I had the vegetable fajitas, and they were a little too salty for my taste but yummy. The servings were huge, so it served me as three meals. The rest of our party of about 25 really enjoyed their food and drinks. Cons: it's very hot in there, the door stays open, and they have fans, but it's a little rough during Miami summers. Parking is also difficult to find but it's in the heart of Miami Beach so that is to be expected. Overall good experience.

Best enchiladas I've ever had! We also got BOGO margaritas--they were a bit small but packed a punch. The tacos were incredible, and the guacamole was super fresh and flavorful. Our server was very attentive, and the owner went above and beyond by giving us a complimentary shot for kindly switching tables to accommodate a big party. It's a small restaurant with a fun, lively atmosphere, and being by the beach just adds to the charm. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area!

Good quality food but pricey, + mandatory 20% service fee for everything, I got the aqua chilies which comes with the tortilla chips which is really good and crispy I think they probably fried it on their own which is really nice!

As much as I hate writing negative reviews, I have to share my experience here. The interior was very authentic and inviting, although I was seated near the bathroom, which had a terrible smell. Aside from that, the chips and salsa were tasty! My partner Rob and I ordered the fish tacos, and they arrived 40 minutes after we had finished our starter--and they were cold. I was already annoyed, but I decided to give them a try. Unfortunately, the tortilla was stale and very dry. The tacos were soggy overall, and the fish tasted like plastic. I rarely have such a strongly negative opinion about restaurants, especially in Miami, but this was truly a horrible experience. I cannot make this up! We reported the issue to our server, who took the food back, and we never heard from her again. I'm sorry, but this was truly a terrible experience, and I do not recommend ordering the fish tacos. This was hands down some of the best tacos we have ever had. Great atmosphere and excellent service. I highly recommend you go here!

I always love authentic tacos and this place delivered. It was right across the street from our AirBnb so we thought we'd try it. It was a good choice. The food was very good. Tasted fairly close to authentic. We started with the steak nachos. They were delicious! They had cheese, jalapeños, steak, sour cream, and guacamole. They were loaded and not lacking in the toppings department. There was plenty for 4 of us to share. My girlfriend and I split the birria tacos and they were worth every penny. The flavor of the birria itself was top notch and the sauce to dip in was the real treat. There were 3 tacos, rice and beans on the plate. Our table also ordered Al pastor tacos and fish tacos. They said that they were very flavorful. The service was great. Our waiter got us drinks quickly and food out nearly as fast. He stopped by many times to check on us and fill waters. He made for an awesome overall experience. The ambiance transports you to a Hispanic household. It felt very homey inside and had decorations all over the place. I'm sure it gets very lively at night time since it's close to ocean drive. Overall this was a great lunch spot. I'd visit again the next time I visit South Beach.

We had an exquisite lunch at abuela's tacos! The restaurant is decorated in lively colors and the inside is super cute and aesthetic period. To start, I had the tamaringo margarita, which was spicy and strong loved this drink period. My friend had the watermelon mojito and love that as well. For appetizers, we had the elote, tuna tostada and and the chicken flautas. My favorite was the tostadas, which is a must order, and the chicken flautas us as well. For the main course we had the mixed fajitas, which came out steaming and were delicious, and we also had the Rosa tacos that was super. Yummy both came with a side of black beans and rice. If you order the chicken flautas, please be aware that it also has guacamole, so aside of guac, it is not necessary. For dessert we had a tres leches cake that was perfectly sweet and good enough to share. Finished off the meal with a cafecito. I will definitely be back to this establishment because I truly enjoyed it,, the vibes were good, and the food was even better.

Their tacos are not bad but for street tacos they are pricey even during happy hour. They charge a standard 18% gratuity. I'm always getting chips & queso, so figured I'd mix it up with fries. While I liked the fries, the queso felt a bit thin and not very flavorful. Like it seemed they just mixed in a little fresh pico de gallo for the flavor component. Chips & Queso w/ Beef: The classic is much better than the dipper fries. Felt like there was more queso with the beef upgrade. Also, the thin chips let you focus more on the yummy cheese. Cheese Enchiladas w/ Red Sauce & Green Sauce: I love cheese! Like when choosing between meat or cheese as a protein, I usually pick cheese. So the enchiladas scratched that itch. Both sauces were nice, though not that memorable. The rice and beans helped fortify the meal, since the main enchilada portion felt a tad small. 3 Way Fajitas: This was an awesome fast casual dinner for two. Came out in an oversized mound of proteins, onions and peppers. While you could have created mixed fajitas, I did separate waves. The shrimp was tiny, springy and nicely flavored. The steak was the star, with that classic fajita chew. The chicken is nicely spiced, so more exciting that regular chicken. It came with guacamole, cheese, sour cream, rice and beans to feel like a real sizzling fajita plate experience. But it was the salsa bar that really livened things; I especially favored the green salsa.
