We couldn't be happier with our experience at Corner Coop. One of the standout features for us has…read morebeen its flexibility with scheduling. As our daughter has grown more comfortable, we've been able to easily add on days and enroll her in the lunch program. The best part of the Coop is the teachers. They are fully engaged with the kids, always there to play, help manage those big feelings, and tailor activities to each child's interests. We've seen no staff turnover in the year our daughter has attended. We appreciate the play-based approach, allowing kids to choose their own activities and follow their passions. The kids spend at least an hour at the playground every day , weather permitting. They also get to play in the splash pad when it's hot and sled in Waldstein Park when it snows. Being a parent cooperative, we love being involved in the school's operations and feeling like true partners in our daughter's education journey. Corner Coop has exceeded our expectations and we're grateful to be a part of such a nurturing and supportive community.

I've two kids - one Pre-K and the other being in 1st grade. The school builds on five principles:…read morecommunity, stewardship, integrity, simplicity, and equality - but it doesn't just talk about it. It _embraces_ them. It instills the value of community teaching the kids to be good people - to care about other folks, to think of other folk feelings. At the same time it balances the individual spark each kid has - recognizing our differences and building on the strengths. With the class sizes being on the small size it means that the kids who are excelling can get more individual attention to get more challenging problems (so that they don't get lazy), and for those who are having a harder time they can get the attention to improve. The older kids are buddies with the younger ones - sending inter-school mail, to foster reading and writing skills. Stewardship is manifested via its focus on the tangible things - recycling, carrying for the butterflies (yup, every day in the spring they learn about metamorphosis seeing caterpillars turning into butterflies), and taking care of the garden. Integrity - the kids learn to take ownership of their actions, of being truthful by setting plans out ahead and understanding ones strengths and weakness. This is a hard -try asking a kid "what were you thinking?" and the answer is never straightforward. But the teachers have a knack of asking and listening and getting to the bottom of the issue and un-jamming the emotions the little ones have. Simplicity and equality is embraced by their social justice program. The kids learn about very touchy subjects such as class injustice and racial injustice at Pre-K level! They did a play where each kid would take a different role in the Montgomery Bus Boycott - bus driver, Rosa, etc. And then swap to have other roles to try to understand each person viewpoint. Academically they are able to focus on high performers to challenge them and on the low-performers to help them. This is math, writing and reading, gym, etc. They also are able to deal with the more "energetic" kids by having ways in the class for those kids to get their energy out (swing, or climbing structures, chairs with balloon), and for the Pre-K kids having _two_ recess time. This was especially important for me as our kids are very high energy. We are very happy with our kids at CFS.

A sad excuse for a school. Back when I went here I was bullied and even spanked by teachers, in…read moreaddition I got locked in a closet for forgetting to put a block away. Not to mention the relentless bullying which included attempted strangling, isolation, physical assault, harassment, etc, and later led to death threats so bad that I had to switch towns and schools, and of course the teachers didn't do anything about it. The sheer lack of supervision also meant that kids (under the age of 10 even) would be making out in the bathrooms, in addition to vaping. And don't even get me started on the faculty, that's a whole other story. In short, I'm for the schools ultimate downfall.

Though this is a large daycare center, the care that the children receive is personalized, and caring. Our daughter was well known to teachers throughout the scho, and administrative staff. We never felt like a number here. We loved her classroom teachers, and it was clear to us that they loved our daughter too. She thrived during her time at Adventures, and I could see how she much she was learning, week by week. She was always happy to go to school! I never worried about my daughter while she was at Adventures. We received regular updates (and pictures) throughout the day, via an app, about what her class did that day, what she ate and drank, diaper changes, and naps. I knew that she was in the best hands! And for an anxious Mama, that is a big deal! We did not want to leave Adventures, but due to extenuating family circumstances we had to make a hard decision. The administrative team offered us a lot of support during this time, which we are very thankful for. Hopefully one day we will be back!

Have used LCSH for my kids for years from infant through preK. I have had only good experiences and…read moregreat things to say. The infant and toddler room was safe, teachers communicate well, and are caring. The preschool room (2-3years) was also welcoming, caring teachers, and safe. They take the kids to activities like walks, local parks, and keep them safe. The best experience has been pre-K; They are really a comprehensive Pre K program, with 2 teachers / up to 20 kids, and incorporate reading, writing, science, math, field trips, park, library, swimming.. I have toured other pre-K's including expensive private preK's in newton. None of them were up to par with LCSH. LCSH is both quite affordable for its excellent location, and comprehensive. Diverse students are a plus. The other pre-K's including much more expensive private places like Bright Horizon's do not do field trips, swimming, theatre, yoga etc like LCSH incorporates....so, having toured a bunch of other pre-K I love LCSH the most.. Ms Sandra is the contact / local director and she is pretty busy I am sure responsive when needed. The teachers in Pre K have been also very responsive by the app every day, sharing photos, responding to your questions, etc. And accommodating for example I wanted privacy for bathroom for the kids/ dietary restrictions like gelatin etc they were always aware and made sure to follow the preferences. 10/10 recommend.

Our son has been at Little Corner Schoolhouse (Too location) for almost a year now. He started in…read morethe toddler room and has now moved up to he preschool room. He loves it there and therefore we love it there. The teachers do a great job updating the parent communication app (Brightwheel) and I love getting anywhere from 3-10 photos of him doing fun things throughout the day. A brief update of what they did for the day is also posted in the app. Both toddler and preschool teachers send out a monthly curriculum of the theme for the month and what the kids are learning. This is great because then we can reinforce the same themes at home. They mix it up with activities including periodic yoga and children's musicians. If I were to have any more "wants" it would be to go outside more. They do go on walks and to the playground almost daily, depending on weather. I'm all about outdoor time so I would have them out in a drizzle and even when it's cold -- but, this isn't an outdoor school, and they do spend a good amount of time outside. Other big plusses in my book are low teacher turnover and hours (6:30am-6:30pm). We usually do ~8:30am-6pm but it's nice that it's open earlier for those days when I have an early appointment or it's an exceptionally early wake up. It's a welcoming environment and I'm glad my son is happy to run in to play every day.

My child attended school here for their Transitional Kindergarten program (i.e. a third year of…read morepreschool if your child misses the cut-off date for that year) and it was a very good experience for my family. The "cooperative" part of the name indicates that each parent spends some time as a teaching assistant. I wasn't sure if I would like this, however the time commitment is minimal (3 hours a semester) and I learned a lot. The teachers and program are excellent and the school truly does foster a sense of community among its members. The T-K program is more structured than the preschool but it's supposed to be and I did not feel that the children were being pressured. It's a 'traditional' pre-school schedule in that it's about 4 hours a day but you can also do after-care for another couple of hours (or maybe more now). It's very flexible and as said everyone seems truly nice. If the location and schedule work for you, I would definitely advise exploring this program and recommend it highly.
