I had a very bad experience with Soule and I had to withdraw my toddler daughter after 3 days. In…read moreshort, the problem is management and, perhaps, its culture. Before I explain what happened, I should note that Soule was the only school that did in-person tours in the peak of the pandemic in February whereas every single school/daycare was doing it remotely. I think that says something... After I enrolled my child, I was told that a week before the official start day, she will come in everyday for an hour with me accompanying her in the classroom. Third day of that transition week, I was told to wait outside as she seemed to be doing fine alone. I left briefly to go to Starbucks to pick up a cup of coffee. When I returned, I found her crying, and I was told that I should stick around because it is the transition period. At week 2, which is the official start week, on Monday I did stick around whole day, because that is what I assumed I was supposed to be doing. Nobody gave me any instructions or explained me any plan. At 10am, they took her out since she was crying asking me to take her home. That did not sound right to me, because she will never get used to the place if I take her home after each cry. So, I gave her some food and I let her go inside again. They had a tendency to say goodbye throughout the day, eager to send us home. I stayed and assisted her to nap there. I thought this was weird as I cannot spend my days like that sticking around whole day, so I asked them to come up with a plan. They said I should leave her in the morning and go home because when she knows that I am outside, she will try to go out and cry. I agreed. The plan was that I was going to leave her half a day for two days and on the third day we would try full day. This plan was reasonable to me, because she was not doing terribly bad at all: she loved the toys and the school, but she needed to learn to stay there without me. Btw, I should note that I did not even do sleep training with her since I am not ok letting her cry for long periods of time. But, our original plan was good, because she seemed to be doing fine. An hour later, the director calls me and says, they decided to switch her enrollment to half day for that month because it is too stressful for her. When I said let me think about it, she says, no, that is what we decided! So, they are making a decision by themselves without thinking about my personal circumstances. I am a single mom who needs to return to her full time job. This was very disturbing for me. I talked to some friends with kids. They all found this whole thing very strange. They all thought that it is their job to entertain/distract her so that she does not cry; they thought that it should not be up to them to make a decision unilaterally. I needed them to do their part so that she gets used to the place as soon as possible. "She cried, take her home" is not a solution. Plus, this created extreme anxiety for me as I could not rely on them to organize my life. I decided to try one-two more days. I found myself calling/texting them to see how she is doing. The second day, nobody even replied to my texts. Somebody should have explained me how the communication was going to work (e.g., they would check with me in mid day, or just reach out to me only if there is an issue). None of that. No explanation of the processes. I talked to the director and explained her all my thoughts. (Oh, btw, the director also said the center is getting rid of all the Covid rules which prompted her to resign.) She kept saying that I am right. But, I don't think that she cares, as she is leaving anyways. Where does the process break? I think the lead teacher has as much responsibility as the director in making sure that there is proper communication with the parent, educating the parent, and setting the expectations of the parent. After we made a plan together, what did she say to the director which made her call me and tell me that they are changing her enrollment without my consent? Plans, of course, can change. I was not going to torment my child if she was not adjusting well, but it should not be up to the school to make a decision without my consent. I am the customer. I eventually decided to cancel her enrollment (which the director offered me), because I could not trust what kind of uncertainty and unreliability was waiting for me in the future. I need reliable care. I do not recommend this place. The core of the problem perhaps is that they have a state institution mentality, which they are. They are employees of the city of Brookline. Private daycares care so much about customer satisfaction and their ratings; the directors seem to be hovering around to make sure that the place is functioning properly. I got the impression that the director of Soule was jaded. Not sure if the new one can change the culture because incentives most likely are there to stay.

There was not a single room that we (and they) didn't love! My son left for Kindergarten a year ago and my daughter is leaving now at age 3 to be closer to our home for pick-up/drop-off reasons. I'm so incredibly grateful we had LCSH to care for our children. First, the leadership. Lissy and Gladys are wonderful. They are experienced, kind, friendly, professional, and very responsive. They clearly love and know each one of the children and care for their staff. There is very little staff turnover, which both creates a very nice family atmosphere for the kids and speaks to Lissy and Gladys' leadership. When the pandemic hit, Lissy and Gladys did everything they could to keep the children safe while understanding the needs of working parents. I also have compared their tuition to many other places and they are very reasonable. Second, the staff! They are such wonderful people - my kids loved them all because they are warm, loving, and great educators. My son was fully ready for Kindergarten and my daughter has learned fine motor skills, sharing, listening, resolving conflicts, and fairness. Often teachers from previous years would see my daughter in the hallway and give her big hugs. It meant a lot to us that they felt surrounded by people who care. Third, the other programs. Lissy and Gladys keep things fresh by bringing in music teachers, having field days, sports, and many other activities. My daughter looked forward to every Thursday when Ms. Monica would come to her class and bring instruments for the kids to play and to dance. Finally, the community. The parents and other children are a lovely group of people. We are sad to leave LCSH, but grateful we have the memories. If you visit the school - especially Boylston street - it's not the most beautiful location. But don't judge based on that! The school itself is very nice and the teachers get the kids out and about to the local parks for sports, water parties in the summer, and playground fun. Ultimately, LCSH is a great place with people who truly care about kids and families.

Enrollment process was terrible. People from the Brookline location kept directing me to an online…read moreregistration form that wasn't working. When I told them, they recommended I call headquarters, which I did. I spoke to one person initially, who told me my registration was all set and processed. When I called headquarters again after a week because I did not receive a confirmation, I spoke with another person who said nothing was processed and that I owe $150 for the registration fee. This is specifically after the first person told me I do not need to pay the fee on account of where I worked. So I chose to no longer complete my registration. Fast forward two weeks, I receive an email out of the blue from someone from Bright Horizons to register online, with a note that the fee can be waived depending on where I work. This time, the form is working. I went through the registration process and at the end, it said I did not owe any money. After I set up my account, however, I saw a $150 charge that was created on the date I spoke with the second person from headquarters. I reached back out to the person who emailed me, who recommended I call headquarters... The disorganized nature of this entire process, which has dragged on for more than a month, makes me hesitant to trust them with the care of my future child.

Happy is an understatement! Since enrolling our daughter in OFLC-Allston 3 months ago, we have had…read morean AMAZING experience. The teachers and staff are all amazing.... Every single one. Sephora was the one who sold my partner and I (and my mother!) on OFLC and we were hesitant because (as all childcare in Boston) it was pricey but we decided that our peace of mind knowing our daughter was being well-cared for was worth every single penny. Dropping her off was hard as with every parent who has ever had to do it, but Sephora personally checked in on her three or four times during that first day and personally made sure she was okay. Our daughter had a hard time with the transition and made plenty of pouty faces at her dad and myself when we dropped her off but she now LOVES it. She is so happy and calm at drop-off. We place our daughter twice a week and when one of our scheduled days falls on a holiday, we can easily place her another day that week so we always get care for the paid amount. Her teacher, Miss Desiree is AMAZING! This teacher goes above and beyond for our daughter. EVERY TIME I come in and she sees I may be nervous about something, she asks me about it, notes my concern, tells me everything will be fine, then writes me personal messages about the baby's progress during the day. It is amazing! The baby loves her. I really can't say enough great things about her. AND about the center. They have even gotten her to NAP! I am convinced that Miss Desiree is a witch with magical baby powers. Leslie, the classroom aide is also so AMAZING and nurturing towards Reese. I can tell my daughter enjoys it when she is around and interacting with her, and she is so kind and warm and welcoming. Since starting, Reese is reaching and exceeding all of her developmental milestones. Her pediatrician is thrilled with how alert and active she is and I know that part of that is attributed to the way the center stimulates her. One of our most important requirements for our chosen care was that they require all staff and children to be vaccinated. Our Future Learning Center-Allston requires that all staff and students be up to date with their vaccines and it really gives us peace of mind to know that when she comes home feeling under the weather, it is nothing a little rest and snuggles won't fix, which is so important given the recent outbreak of measles in this country as of recently. The center is secure and locked down. Only registered family/friends can pick up your child, and you can only access the building by fingerprint registration. They also use their own app (Remini) to send us photo updates on our daughter throughout the day! I could write for days. Parents, sending your children to daycare is SO HARD! I know. But schedule a tour and I PROMISE you, you will see what we saw and now know to be true about this center. One of the best decisions I have made for my baby since her birth. Don't believe me? We first spoke to Julie out if the Marlboro location and in comparison to many other local daycares, her kindness and professionalism blew me away. She was knowledgeable and took the time to answer all of my questions. She offered to set up a time for me to visit the Allston location where we will be sending our son, but I declined because I needed time to figure out when would be good. There was absolutely no attempt to hide the cost of the program, which was awesome because so many schools want to meet with you before they give you tuition cost. I met with Sephora in Allston and she is amazing. She is warm, welcoming, kind, and she didn't rush us out or pressure us. I felt like I had known her forever. I immediately fell in love with the space, which includes beautiful classrooms, a nice playground fenced in outside and a huge gym area. The place was clean and beautiful and during nap time, so peaceful. The teachers were so kind, smiling, not a single child upset, not even in the infant room. On our first day today, my son was ecstatic. It was his first day of school EVER and he has only been watched by family members and very rarely. He was so happy and he was following along with the other children eating breakfast and lunch. I couldn't be happier. And the school was so accommodating, in more ways than I can explain. They didn't even attempt to rush us out or anything when we first arrived. We stuck around to make sure he was ok and they didn't seem to mind at all. Even the parents were stopping to introduce themselves and tell us how awesome the school was. It's like a little community. On our way out we met the owner, Lee, who immediately recognized a new face and asked if this was Ben (my son). He wasn't in a rush at all and took the time to chat with us and ask us how things were going and how we felt so far. I imagine with three locations he is a pretty busy guy, but he clearly cares about his school as well as the staff and families. I know it's only the first day, but so far I am amazed and I recommend that others consider looking into this school. It is one of the most affordable schools in the area and they have a flexible schedule and offer fresh meals and snacks, included in tuition. I've been through this before as I have two girls who are 8, and while I feel I lucked out with great schools in the past, this one seems really special.
