I'm so happy I found this place! My boyfriend and I spent the weekend driving up and down the Tulum…read morehotel zone and the traffic was horrible (to give you an idea - the Rosa Negra restaurant was 30min from our Airbnb and it took us an hour and a half to drive down the beach strip). So on our last night we stayed in town and decided to eat somewhere local. La Malquerida beats all of the restaurants we went to on the hotel zone strip (in food quality, price, and service)! We thought it was the most authentic food we had the whole trip, and the ambience was great - outdoor seating is available, and there are a ton of other restaurants/bars in the area if you're in the mood for a nightcap after a delicious deal (you'll hardly need one - everything was very filling at La Malquerida). We can't wait to come back!!

One is Mexican food and the other is pizza and pasta. The wife had guacamole and fish tacos and said both were outstanding. Best fish tacos she ever had. So fresh, not a hint of fishiness. The accompanying salsas were excellent too. Guacamole was very well seasoned. I was in the mood for something simple so I had the 4 cheese pizza (almonte queso) and it was excellent. The crust was fresh and light. The cheese was good quality and very tasty. Really good pizza and especially so in an area not known for Italian food. Service was good, bathrooms were clean, and I have no complaints at all. I would go here again if I ever visit Tulum another time.

I know it was the nachos because my husband and I ate the same things yesterday with the exception of the imitation crab on the nachos. When they sat them down and I saw it was imitation crab I was disappointed but it was late and I was hungry. My husband ate maybe a few bites and he picked the imitation crab off. He said the nachos tasted disgusting to him. We went back to our room, and about 3 hours later I woke up and immediately started projectile vomiting. I spent most of the night in the bathroom feeling like I was going to die. I thought the imitation crab tasted a little off, but just chalked it up to being different than what I'm used to in the states. Big MISTAKE. I've managed to slow down in the vomiting and trips to the bathroom but I still feel awful. Nauseated, headache (probably from dehydration), stomach pain and back pain....I assume that's from how hard I was retching. We will never go back. Food poisoning is not something I give any additional chances for. If you've had it, you understand.
