Both appetizer and main course came out before we even received our drinks. We complained and they brought them back five minutes later, we still hadn't received our drinks and they had put the salad under the hot lights so my salad was wilted. We gave up and just ate and eventually our drinks came. I ordered the spicy tuna tartare tacos. They were supposed to come with Siracha mayo and guacamole. Instead what I received was 3 mini crispy tacos with some ? tuna absolutely drowning in siracha. Nothing else. To his credit, the manager came by and apologized and offered a free dessert. Great place for groups and if you're craving some good American food. I got the crispy chicken sandwich (menu said to ask for Nashville hot so I did) and it came with a heap of crispy fries for around $15. It was cooked perfectly; so crispy and juicy and the hot sauce that it was topped with wasn't too overwhelming. I got a little bite of the cornbread as well and I loved it - not too sweet or dry. Dessert options were okay. I shared The Classic with a friend which was two big brownies topped with vanilla ice cream. The brownies tasted like sawdust until you get to the fudge part. On the way to the bathroom, I passed by a private event so it seems like they're accommodating for very large groups. The pizza is pretty topnotch here and at any Matchbox location that I have been to. Yes, it can be slightly pricey compared to your typical carry-out spot but trust...it's worth it. They sell other stuff too like pasta, burgers, salads etc, as your regular American restaurant would. But they are pretty well known for pizza. They also have a full bar here. Our waitress and staff who brought out the food was really nice and really cool with us. The spot was very clean and the manager even came over to make sure everything was ok. I feel likes the food has gone down in quality but the only thing i absolutely loved was the mini burgers. We got the chicken Alfredo which was strangely red and watery. Not very flavorful and the chicken texture was strange and a very dry. I'm pretty sure it had been sitting under a heat lamp for hours. When you think of chicken Alfredo don't you think of a thick white sauce? Well this was not the case at all. We also got a margarita pizza and specifically said no pepper and it came out spicy. Also my Diet Coke was just water. My first sip I just thought I got a weird sip but it was like that the whole time. I went recently for an early dinner with my boys. The food was good but the service was terrible. Even my 9 year olds commented on the lack of attention and the ridiculously long waits to get simple items such as condiments. One of my kids is a picky eater and he was told they had honey mustard sauce for his chicken tenders when he ordered them. The tenders came out without honey mustard and when he asked for it he was told they didn't have any. It seems small but it's a huge deal to a picky eater. The restaurant as a whole was not packed but everyone was seated in the bar area leaving the bartender to service the people sitting at the full bar and the high tops in the bar area. Brunch in merrifield without a line! Also great for happy hour. We've been here twice and brought our baby both times. The restaurant is very accommodating to families. The first time, we wanted to go to Ted's Bulletin for brunch, but we were deterred by the wait time (45+ minutes). This one had no wait and some delicious brunch entrees like chicken and waffles, not to mention creative bloody Mary's. We came back for happy hour, and they were doing $1 pbrs at the time! Who put Parmesan cheese on burger sliders? There is no correlation between overprocessed powdered cheese and hamburger sliders. We ordered the sliders without cheese. However, the chef thought that they were going to fancy it up and sprinkle some overly processed powdered cheese on the top of the burgers. Disgusting. There is no culinary correlation between hamburger sliders, and Parmesan cheese sprinkle. We read the description of the burgers online before ordering and the menu never said anything about Parmesan cheese being placed on top of the burgers. We complained to the manager and he said we should have looked at the picture.... Looked at the picture? Who says that to their customers? You're adding some over processed nasty sprinkle powdered cheese on top of a meal and you have no consideration for people who have dietary restrictions or who just doesn't like the flavor of overly processed powder cheese? It's not as if they were putting a reasonable, garnish on the burgers, they were sprinkled powdered cheese cheese on top of the burgers. Let's get real. Also, I looked at the picture, all I could see, was white specs on the tray, not on top of the burgers. so what picture am I looking at to see what's on top of the burgers? Everything that they put on the burgers should be listed on the menu. I cannot fathom how that person is actually a manager. That response was so unprofessional and so ridiculous, just so ridiculous. I can't. I am not gonna be spending my money here or coming back to the store ever again. This was our first time trying it and this will be our last time ever trying it. There are too many other places out there and they don't sprinkle nasty crap on top of your burgers and tell you is your fault because you should've looked at a picture before you ordered. How about you take responsibility and you don't put crap on the burger that doesn't belong there? The cinnamon buns were warmed but not hot. I think they were a little under cooked. The flavor was on point though and frosting. I also got the steak and eggs. It was filling, tasty and the perfect portion. Next time I will get it with cheese. There also needed to be more spices on the steak. Thankfully I was able to add salt and pepper and it was tasty. I've ordered take-out at matchbox before, but this was my first experience dining-in. Hostesses were accommodating when I had to push the reservation back and we were seated right away. I ordered the cream of crab soup and matchbox meat pizza. Soup was surprisingly delicious- large lumps of crab at the bottom and the temperature was just right. Pizza was decent- wasn't very hot but it tasted alright. We had a large table so perhaps ours was finished before the other dishes and waited under a heat lamp. Went for the Matchbox meat pizza, sliders, spicy mini meatballs and their cheese fries. If you're a fan of thin crust pizza's, you might like this place. As far as the pizza goes, it tasted good. A bit on the salty side but that's probably because of all the meats that came with it. Lol Sliders were tasty. Almost like they knew how I wanted it since it was cooked on the medium rare side. I ordered a large plain pizza and fries. This cost me almost $30. I picked the food up so thats without delivery. The "large pizza" they gave me was maybe 10 inches, and 4 slices(compared to a typical 16 inch pizza for the same price). The pizza was an abomination and should be dissected in a lab for research purposes, on what to avoid when creating a pizza. Its ingredients were horrendous and it was undercooked to the point it was cold. The fries I ordered(medium, cost $8) were average size fries... that were undercooked, and there were only 9(NINE) fries. Almost a dollar a fry? I've never been so unabashedly insulted by a restaurant. Do not get food from here. read more

While we've been to Matchbox before, this was our first time at this location. We were here around 5 p.m. on a Saturday. Already, a lot of tables were occupied but we were seated immediately. This Matchbox is like the others in the sense that seating is cramped. We were so close to the couple at the next table that they ended up engaging us in a long conversation. We didn't mind as it was very interesting :) With Matchbox, even though we hadn't been to one in a few years (you know---so many restaurants, so little time) we still gravitate to the same menu items. This time was no exception. After all this time, we both remembered their pomegranate martini and how much we enjoyed having it. Thus, we were still pleased to see that it was still on the menu. Like in the past, we enjoyed this drink quite a bit---the flavoring is nice, properly balanced and not too strong. We started out with 6 sliders and chose mozzarella for our cheese. They certainly lived up to expectations. Matchbox does sliders quite well. With sliders, some restaurants overcook them making them very dry. Matchbox gets it right---they are served medium rare to medium with cheese and a dill pickle slice. Plus they come with a very generous portion of onion strings which are crisp and tasty. Next, we got a small oven dried tomatoes + mozzarella pizza. Matchbox does a good pizza with a thin slightly crispy crust. This time, however, the sauce had some zest to it---we didn't recall it being that way in the past. Still, it was well seasoned and didn't overtake the pizza. I asked our server about it and he said all their pizza sauces are now like this. He added that they are very careful when it comes to making the pizza dough and the sauce to the point where they've been known to throw out batches that aren't done properly. All in all, an enjoyable meal. We were glad that we had dinner here and would certainly go again. Service from start to finish was excellent. Like many restaurants, it gets loud. I wish that there was better spacing between the tables as it makes getting in and out rather awkward but, it is what it is. Before the tip, dinner cost $59 + change. read more

I've been awaiting the opening of Matchbox since I learned that there would be a location in Mosaic and was finally able to try it out this past weekend with my boyfriend and Rob E. I made a reservation via OpenTable to avoid the wait and we were sat immediately after we checked in. They are currently only open for dinner, but hopefully they'll be open for lunch and brunch soon! For those who haven't dined at the other Matchbox locations in the area, it's American style dining with a menu filled with different types of salads, brick oven pizza, fresh seafood, miniburgers, and much more. They have also have a great drink selection, from "girly" to "manly" cocktails (that's what it really says in the drink menu!), beers, and wines. I helped myself to a glass of cabernet sauvignon because it would be a great touch to the pizza I ordered as my entree. We started off with the mini burgers (all with mozzarella for an additional $2), which come in increments of 3, 6, or 9 and come with onion straws. The bun was soft, the meat was juicy and succulent, and the cheese was perfectly melted... it was my definition of the perfect cheeseburger. The onion straws were crisp and light. I ordered the spicy meatball pizza. I'm pretty picky when it comes to pizza because 1) all I ate when I was an adolescent was microwave pizza, and 2) I've been spoiled with Brooklyn style pizza after my many trips to New York and couldn't seem to eat a pizza the same way again -- but when it comes to pizza at Matchbox, it's ON POINT. I loved every bite of it! On the other hand, the service needs to iron out a few kinks. The hostess took us to the wrong table, It took more than awhile to get my glass of wine, (I also heard complaints from the table next to us about how it took so long to get their drinks from the bar as well) and our server wasn't very attentive throughout our meal. Came here to celebrate a friends bday and we had a great time. We were warmly welcomed and our server was on point. He was friendly, had a good sense of humor, and constantly refilled our drinks without us having to ask. Our food came out in a timely manner. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Restrooms are neat, clean, and it smelled like cinnamon in there. The food here is delicious. The sliders were a great way to start our meal. I could have eaten these as my main course. The shoestring fries were thin, light, crisp, and well seasoned. Nothing was overly salty. The slider buns were fluffy yet held the meat patty well. The meat patty was seasoned perfectly, juicy in the middle with a nice sear on the outside. Their pizzas are awesome. You can choose two kinds and they will put both your choices on one pizza for you. Sweet! The prosciutto and black mission fig was a trip to flavor town. Sweet and savory goodness. The sausage in the Matchbox Meat Pizza was also out of this world. The dessert trio is great for sharing. The sorbet comes from Dolcezza. The brownie was smooth, warm, and gooey. The vanilla ice cream was creamy, not too sweet, and had a lovely natural vanilla flavor. The homemade whipped cream and chocolate topping was prepared so well. The house made doughnuts were cinnamon sugar deliciousness. Dip it into the espresso kahlua creme and your good as as gold. The Apple Crisp was an immediate hit at the table. Loaded with warm slightly crisp and gooey apples. Topped with cool vanilla ice cream. Yum! It gets incredibly packed in here. I suggest making reservations if possible. I dig that all the dining parties with children were segregated into the booths by the bathrooms in the back left. It left free reign of the bar area to us pottymouth adults. Julio was an entertaining server. Waits weren't too bad considering how busy they were on a gloomy Sunday night. My Fire & Smoke cocktail was interesting: the peat I love in Laphroaig married with a faintly silty cayenne-thyme syrup... not terribly spicy for heat fiends, just short of genius enough for a booze purist to repeat. The chickpea fries that came with the lamb sandwich were damned tasty, I'm determined to replicate this at home. I saw the shrimp & grits app and chose to upgrade to an entree portion of it. Pretty good! Diced andouille in just enough butter sauce to moat the creamy Tillamook cheddar grits at an even ratio, with nicely fried basil leaf and two more shrimp than app serving for only $6 more.
