My friend wanted to try the Park Ave Special which had 4g Hikari matcha, peach puree, oat milk, maple, and vanilla bean oat. I tried a sip and almost didn't want to swallow it. It tasted like medicine.
I got a matcha latte with their Tsuyuhikari powder which is $2 more. I don't know why I felt so confident in them that I was willing to pay more without knowing whether they'd be good in the first place.
Also when asked whether I want 10oz or 12oz, I said 12oz without asking whether they would be a price difference and matcha powder difference. I know I could've but I didn't out of anxiety of holding up the line. The menu doesn't state sizes and their respective price difference. After ordering, I noticed I got charged $1 for the extra milk to make it 12oz. I'm less bothered by needing to pay for a larger size but more bothered by having a diluted drink and lack of transparency. At home I would only be using 4oz of milk for 4g of matcha, so when you're telling me I'm going from 10oz (maybe 7oz of milk) to 12oz (maybe 9oz of milk), I am so bothered.
It didn't taste that good either. I got the A2 milk because I like Alec's ice cream which also uses A2 milk. I can't tell whether it's the milk or matcha that's giving the drink a savory cheesy flavor. I suspect it is from overheating the milk too. I like having umami in my matcha but I also like some naturally sweetness.
Even though this matcha latte isn't as weak and watery like other places, I'm still so annoyed by both drinks.
I also don't like how the milk and sweetener options weren't specified to be complimentary. I realized afterwards that they seem to like to offer vegan and homemade ingredients, but I still wish it was stated up front rather than hidden in their socials. In case you can't tell, I'm not interested in asking in-person. read more
