Stopped by last week to get my bike looked at & couldn't have picked a better place. The guys there were super nice, super welcoming & knew all there is about bicycles. After looking at my bike they made quick simple adjustments, were very helpful in explaining things to me and gave me hints are what I could do to avoid future issues. I also asked them about custom builds and they said those are their specialty & usually what they work on. I was told this was a good place to take your bike for repairs and to buy a new one. I ordered a bike for my son for Christmas. I called two weeks prior to make sure it would be there in time. When I arrived, it was not there and I was given no explanation. They were even rude to me and left me scrambling to find a present for my son two days before christmas. Outstanding customer service! I bought a very special collectors tandem from an estate auction and these guys were recommended by the auction company to do the boxing. Tandems are a tremendous pain to box up and these guy did a great job. They were in regular contact with me about progress and provided tracking info. Bookmarked this place a few weeks ago looking for bikes for the Mrs and myself. What caught my eye was ... A. Most are already assembled plus B. Some but not all are visible out front and around back in their parking lot. Reed assisted us in choosing our new rides. Just looking for a casual bike for both of us and not really needing those high end mountain bikes. Seven speed was suggested and we both got bikes by a brand called Electra. Bikes these days are a small investment, even for a casual rider. When settling up our bill, I casually mentioned about just getting them to our house. Ed, who was doing repairs on other bikes said that could be worked out. I was expecting that it would be later in the week, but he actually delivered them the same day. I showed him our garage and he offered to give me a hand setting up a rack to hang them. read more

When we first moved to Matawan in August of 2021, our bikes needed some attention, air in the tires, cleaning, check of brakes and gears, etc. Thought we might have to drop them off for all that but Reed got right to work and told me point by point how everything looked, made a few adjustments, filled up the tires and I was out of there within 15-20 minutes. It felt good to have done business with such a nice, knowledgeable, enterprising young man. My husband took his bike in the same week with the same caliber experience. Awful customer service. Had a flat brought it in Sunday was told it would be ready the next day. 4 days later no call after repeated phone calls to them. Charged me $50 for a tube and pedals! Are you kidding me? They didn't even replace the bald tire. Never ever will we frequent that rip off place again. read more

Owner very rude. I dropped my bicycle off for new tires, tune up, and kick stand. Ten days later, I tried calling the bike shop for three days to see if my bike was ready. There was no answer, no answering machine, after letting rings several times, someone would pick up the phone only to hang it up again. I decided to go there to find out was going on. They never even started working on my bike. They said they would fix it then and would call me when it was ready. When I went there the bike was filthy and there was no kick stand on it. When I said the bike was dirty, the owner got very upset. When I dropped the bike off the owner told me the bike would look brand new. He didn't even attempt to dust it off. He proceeded to take the bike inside and took the tires off and brought the bike outside and told me to leave. The fact that he just let me take the bike without charging me for a "tuneup " shows he did absolutely nothing on the bike. read more

My bike was in tough shape. It had a flat in the back and I wasn't sure of I even wanted to keep it. Reed took one look and diagnosed all my issues before I could even tell him. He rotated my handle bars and adjusted the seat. He adjusted my brakes, cleaned it like new and even installed my doggie basket. Once the rear tire was replaced I honestly felt like I had purchased a new bicycle. All this with always a smile on his face. Its so nice to see someone so young truly enjoy his work and bring such vast knowledge of his craft to the table. My poor road bike hasn't seen the light of day for 2 years and was in desperate need of serious attention. I don't have the space to do it myself so I came here bases on local recommendations and great online reviews. Reed and his crew did not disappoint. When I dropped off the bike, I was happy to see that they were busy (always a good sign). I had done some snooping on their website so I knew what level of tune-up I wanted, plus a couple of extra items. I was prepared for the upsell attempt but it never came. Last week, I went in to Matawan Bike Shop with my family for 2 bikes, but we ended up leaving with 4 new bikes!! Reed and his staff were so nice, attentive, helpful and genuine! He had so much patience with us as we picked out bike customs, tried out several bikes, asked thousands of questions, and even changed our minds a few times. We were in there for hours. Highly recommend this shop!!!! My girlfriend and I bought 2 Trek dualsport hybrid bikes from here along with a bunch of gear (bottle cage, repair kit, helmet, etc). Being newer to biking, the guys at the shop were very patient and helpful in making sure we picked the right bikes. Have since been there 2 times for touch ups / maintenance, which they did for us free of charge. Has a boutique bike shop feel without the boutique prices. I called ahead and told them my mountain bike had a flat and asked if they had 26x2.00 tubes. They said they did so I stopped by and they sold me two 26x1.5-1.75 tubes he promised that they would work for this size tire and that they where thorn resistant. So I said okay and bought them they even helped me throw the first one on. I get out on the trail and after a mile the tire pops right by the valve stem I call them back and head back and show them they said it must be the rim and they don't have the time to look at it. So I throw the second on and same thing happens. At this point I am livid and they are closed. So I go to Walmart and buy an actual 26x2.00 tube and put it in and I have no problems. So they're either incompetent selling the wrong size tubes or they're selling defective parts. Either way stay away and find a better show I usually go to Brielle Bicycle or Middletown trek and never had a problem with them they can actually change a tube unlike Matawan. read more

What a great bike shop! Reed and John were terrific, patient and knowledgeable. My daughter and I bought two cruisers here and we couldn't be happier! I had a great bike but when I rode the Townie I fell in love! It's a great ride and the forward pedals are very comfortable. Also the self powered led lights are so cool and handy. I had my bike stored for several years. I took it in to Your shop to have it put back in working condition. It would've been easy to say it needed new tires new tubes and a lot of work. But Reed and John were completely honest with me and said they just needed air and that the bike needed only a basic tuneup. I am so impressed with the quality of the work but more importantly with the honesty and truthful way my business was handled.
