This is a well stocked Bike Shop on the Jersey Shore. I bought my 2007 Specialized Langster at The Peddler. Most of the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. I usually drive by two other bike shops to browse The Peddler. They are both a Specialized and Cannondale dealer but seem to prefer Cannondale. They are also a Seven Dealer and will pretty much special order anything. They are also located in an Economic Redevelopment area so you can save on the taxes as well. The Peddler sponsors several teams and weekend rides often start in their parking lot. Not really sure why I did not give them 5 stars. Probably because nothing is perfect. read more

I am a big cyclist enthusiast. I understand a shop can be super busy and we just popped in. But we needed help and they were so unhelpful. Offered no suggestions or alternative options. Except to come back the following day,... how does that help us if we told them we are looking to fix the bike for a ride the day of? I understand sometimes a shop simply cannot help because they are too busy or unable to. But act a little sympathetic and pretend to offer a solution that another shop might have or something... I had to keep prying and asking questions when the staff obviously was trying to inch towards the door. It was just a 5 minute conversation, not holding up his time! I left feeling very unsatisfied. We also came from another bike shop that also couldn't help bc they didn't have the part but was at least much more helpful in suggesting an alternative. read more

They are a very good shop. Knowledgeable, and not out to sell you something. Had trouble with my bike for over a year. Took it to them, thinking I could trade for a new one. Instead I was told a tune up and new brakes lines and pads were all I needed. Saved me over $400.00, and my bike rides like it is brand new. My eldest son bought a bike from them, then moved to West Coast. The bike is only sold on the East Coast so, when it was stolen, he contacted them for the receipt. They got it to him immediately for the police. While the bike has never been found, their quick response was true customer service. Have bought several bikes from them. I came to Peddler 15 minutes before closing time with my Cannondale road bike to see if they could help me with my frozen deraillers. They were really nice people! Great service ! Rich the mechanic really helped me with my shimano deraillers, and M S the owner was very accommodating, they were passed closing time when they finished fixing my bike. Definitely a bike shop which deserved its rewards placed on the wall. lots of goodies and nice selection of bikes, and plenty of good advice. I'll be back. read more

The best part of my experience was that all of the employees I dealt with at The Peddler were friendly and helpful despite being clearly over worked due to the season. I ordered a new hybrid online which required some assembly. Once together, the gears and brake needed fine tuning. I took it to The Peddler, told them I just needed fine tuning of the brakes and gears and nothing else. They told me "well, it's going to be 2 weeks before we can do it." I was perfectly fine with that and so I left my bike with them. Two weeks later, I called to check and found that it was ready. Once in the shop, one of the employees retrieved my bike, and informed me that the price would be $85. I politely explained to the employee exactly what I mentioned in the previous paragraph and asked to talk to a manager (which turned out to be the owner). Again, I politely explained the situation and was told "well, I can take $5 off." I told him fine, I'll pay it because what choice do I have, but that would mean that I wouldn't be coming back. At that point, he LOST HIS MIND. He said "just take the F'ing (he used the full word) bike and get out." I told him that I'd be happy to pay a fair price but was told "get the F out." I was stunned, and I said "wow, you're nuts," to which he replied "go F yourself." I have never been treated so unprofessionally, and I will be strongly suggesting to anyone interested in my opinion to take their business elsewhere. To top it off, as I rode it home I realized that the gears STILL weren't adjusted correctly and the chain rubbed against the front derailleur... read more

I can not say enough about this bike shop. The staff is super knowledgeable, friendly, and quick. The shop is beautiful. My son was super upset because he had a big bike trip planned and went out to find his tire was not functioning. He had a very short amount of time so I had him rush to the shop where they fixed his issue within minutes and had him on his way. He just called me and was ecstatic. We will never go to another bike shop nor have we ever gotten emergency service this fast before and we have been biking for 15 years . Best bike shop ever! read more

I recently brought in my 1982 Bianchi for a tune up after sitting idle for 20+ years. Mike- the owner is a tremendous person. He did not trash my obsolete cycle, did not try to sell me a new cycle- but merely spent a generous amount of time extolling the virtues of my bike and the worth to tune it up and get back to cycling after 20+ years. I bought a bike there a few years ago which was fine. But bought some aftermarket stuff which didn't come in for 9 months -- really? Recently my chain kept falling off. After reading online that it could be a number of things like a stretched chain, worn sprocket, etc., I decided not to mess with it and bring it to the pros. The guy who waited on me started by saying he didn't have any time. When I told him I understood and would leave it, he told me he'd look at it. Then he said that all that needed to be done was to pull the back wheel back a bit. He talked to me like I was stupid and he was so smart. Well, smart bike guy, the chain continued to fall off and I took the bike to Bike Haven in Fair Haven, NJ. They were friendly (not in that trying to sell you something way) and they put a lot of work into my bike and only charged me $15! I know where I'm going next time I need a new bike and it ain't the Peddler. read more

Staff seemed friendly and knowledgable. There was a pretty good selection in stock. I can't speak for the repair mechanics for service but I have heard they are pretty good. They have a little tool kiosk setup out front so you can do your own quick DIY repairs any time (if you leave the skate park especially) that's right next door. read more

Were to start, after making the best deal posable for two bikes for my kids and paying in full before I left these guys threatened me physically for more money when I tired to pick up the kids bikes the next day. When I came to pick up the bikes they tried not to give me kick stands and training wheels on little kids bikes even though they were clearly part of the deal. Who ever herd of a bike store charging extra for a kick stand for a kids bike. Also I clearly paid for training wheels on the two bikes because I paid more then I was quoted for that upgrade. During the discussion when I asked them if I didn't pay for the training wheels why did I pay $20 more then I was quoted and why I paid tax on that extra $20 the owner had no answer except to threaten to hit me. He new he was wrong and new I caught him in a lie. He tired to intimidate me but I knew I was right. After all this was done he ended up giving me back the money I paid for the upgrade and I was on my way. No matter If I was right or wrong the amount of times this guy threatened to hit me is totally uncalled for. A store owner should never ever threaten a paid in full customer. I wish there was more I could do to warn someone else about this psycho but this will have to be it. Just beware!!!! read more

The peddler took almost three weeks to tune up my bike. When they returned it to me one of grips was disintegrating and one wheel had residue on it. Someone had spilled solvent on both and not bothered to fix or own up. Plus my wheel was not true. I felt ripped off and not respected. Their stock is good but service leaves something to be desired. Pity that I have drive across the state to Halters for a decent tune up. read more

Service has always been outstanding and they always remember you when you come back. It is a wonderful place to do business and if you want to fill like a valued customer and not just a number, this is the place to go. As for Isaac C., you've got to be kidding me! We purchased two bikes over the last 5 years here and in the interim have had some service done. Mike and his team were amazing on the purchase side taking the time to help us make the right decision and then even setting the bike up. Their service has been great and recently had an issue, showed up late on a Saturday afternoon and no questions, they took my bike in the back, did the adjustments and sent me on my way with no charge. Super disappointed in my experience here. Went in to purchase a roof rack for my car. It had to be custom ordered for my vehicle. I asked and was told that they would install it, included in the purchase price. I gave a $100 deposit. When I went to pick it up, I was told that they do not install roof racks. Why would they tell me that they would install it, and the owner says no, that is not true? (He did give me my security deposit back.)I needed the roof rack to carry something for my new job, and now, several weeks later, I will be ordering a roof rack from Brielle Cyclery, who said they would install it for $60. read more

I rode my bike to the beach and upon returning I noticed I needed air for my tire. I was afraid I wouldn't make it home and stopped by the Peddler to see if I could fill my tire up. The guy was extremely helpful and filled up my tire and wouldn't take any money! I got home safe and sound! If you are in Long Branch for a vacation, I believe they rent a bikes too! Super disappointed in my experience here. It took twice as long as it should have. then as I went to put the bike in the back of my car the lock for the front wheel fell off. When I went in the store the mechanic wanted to put on a part that was old and rusted. I had to leave the store without my front wheel because I was so pissed off. When I got home I notice that there were new screws on the gears below the back wheel....the screws were not all the way in. After going to The Peddler since 1970 I will never go back. I have to take the bike to another bike shop because I dont feel safe with the work they did. If I had taken the bike for a ride I would have be seriously injured. It's sad that their services gets a F rating for failure. read more

The Peddler is awful. Don't go there. Their customer service is nonexistent. They are completely disorganized. The employees are not even friendly or nice. I witnessed a sales kid actually yelling at a young girl, probably about 12 y.o., pressuring her into buying a bike that she was clearly not over joyed about, but he clearly wanted to get it off the floor. The girl's mom stepped away from her for a phone call for a minute while she was with the sales guy and he took so advantage of that situation it was evil. I brought my bike for repair and waited three weeks before they even bothered to look at it. Each time I checked back they could never find my repair request, then they kept delaying it and were not even nice or friendly and then I was finally so fed up with the lousy service I took my unserviced bike, brought it to another shop called Cags in West Long Branch where they actually took time out to examine it, see what was wrong, fix it properly within a week and not overcharge me. It was a miracle. The Peddler may have the "location, location, location," but that's all they have. Don't go there. read more
