I was customer for a couple years. I bought several bikes for my son there. First, a little before Christmas, I had to buy him a mtb because the Se bikes were selling like hot cakes.....($660) 2 weeks or so later, just before Christmas. I bought the Se he got in for $900! $1560 within a short period of time! I went to him for everything like a loyal customer does. He always was a little high priced, but I stayed loyal. The last thing that they did the made me realize they cater to the high rollers or the people with these high end road bikes before others is.... I brought my mtb bike in for a simple flat but also a tune up. It was taking forever! I realized I was being put on the back burner the whole time. I pulled my bike and brought it to another store to be serviced in a day! I think that's BS and terrible for business! Not even and apology.....just some half ass excuse!I was LOYAL! Do yourself a favor and take yourself to Trek. I am new to biking and walked in this adorable shop with high hopes to learn about types of bikes and what size I should need. I was also budgeting around $100 for a helmet, which I wanted to buy today. There were FOUR employees and there were ZERO costumers- all four just standing around. I was told "I'm not going to spend 30 minutes sizing you for a bike for you to go buy a used one somewhere else"- I was just shopping around not ready to buy an $800 bike that day. The costumer service drove me to walk out of this shop and go to another- where I ended up buying a helmet AND a bike (today, because they were so nice and helpful). I just want to say that even if I wasn't looking to buy today, good costumer service would have brought me (and my friends) back to that shop. Getting into a new sport is intimidating and the atmosphere here isn't welcoming to new bikers. read more

I wanted to buy bikes for our son and his wife for Christmas. We live in St Louis so I had to do everything over email and phone. AND during Covid so bikes were hard to find! I can tell you that I had the very best experience with Pops! From discussing specific bikes and sizes, to getting what I wanted and then to have them delivered...everything went according to plan and has turned out to be one of our best gifts ever. I want to thank Pop's for the kind customer service and the assistance of reassembling the hand me down bike I had to paint because one son likes blue and the other red. I originally visited pops and asked about a 12" bike for my 4 year old. Even though they didn't have one to fit him on they did have an employee that was willing to bring one so we could size it. The next time I visited Pop's they assisted me in removing the chain on my older son's 16" Giant so I could paint it. I am grateful that they helped me re-fastened the chain once I had the bicycle painted. With their help and friendly service I believe we found a bike shop we can count on. Thanks. read more

So....today I was bored and wanted to go for a trail ride. I go to get my bike and realize the front tire is completely flat. Still determined to bike today, I go to get the front tire fixed. This local bike shop is exactly the kind of specialty shop where you go in, everyone is super friendly and informative, and you spend slightly more than you expected for something you feel you should be able to do yourself, but you feel so great about supporting small business that you still walk out smiling, perhaps dreaming of opening your own small bike shop, who knows? The tire replacement cost $26 total ($8 for the tube, $8 for some fabric thing that protects the tube from the metal, and $10 for labor). Honestly I felt $8 for the fabric stuff was a lot and the labor was only about ten minutes but I don't know these things. Anyway...I go on my lovely 14 mile bike ride, see some turtles, see a beaver dam...and just as I am pulling back into my driveway, my back tire pops. I guess I'll be returning so they can fix my second tire. read more

Last year at the height of the CoVid pandemic my cheapo bike's bottom bracket died. Getting a new bike was not an option as none were available even at ridiculous prices. I had already gone to the place in Flemington where I was condescendingly told it wasn't worth repairing (I thought that was my decision to make and in light of the lack of availability the value of my bike was at a premium) and let me know they weren't interested in my business. The following week the folks at Pop's took in my bike in a safe and efficient manner and promised it back in 4-6 weeks for under $100. I was good with that and hoped that I could at least get in a few more rides at the end of the season. These folks came through in 3 weeks and under the quoted amount for the repairs. I was very pleasantly surprised and able to get the hoped-for rides in before it got too cold. My go-to place for bike maintenance and repairs will henceforth be Pop's in Somerville. I won't even consider the Flemington bike store whose personnel only appear to be interested in riders of Treks or Cannondales. read more

Pop's is tops. I wiled out on my mountain bike, and did serious damage to the bike. Brought it into Pop's and they repaired it expertly, expediently and for a reasonable price. They had all needed parts and they went to work. So, within 24 hours I was back riding it. Friendly and professional. I highly recommend Pop's. read more

Pop's replaced my front and rear tires. The first ride I go on the next morning, the back tire is flat within 3 miles. This is at 7am, I picked my bike up from Pops the day before at 4pm and never moved it from my car. I called them to express my concern and confusion. I expected someone to say, come in for a tube on us...or something to compensate for the fact that clearly they did something incorrectly. Instead, they said "What do you want us to do?" They told me to not put too much air in my tire and I must have ran something over. The new tire had zero damage and the tube had a small hole which created a leak. I could not be more disappointed in the way they handled this and the lack of concern they showed. I spent $82 for damaged goods and this shop could not care less. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. read more

I placed an order for 2 Giant Hybrid bikes from Pops last weekend. I was told my bikes would be in by Thursday or Friday. I checked Thursday afternoon and was told my bike was on backorder. I would have thought I would be notified, but I wasn't. I picked another bike and I was told they would call me Thursday evening to let me know if it would be in on Friday. I didn't get the call, so I called Pops back on Friday. Again they said it wasn't in, but they would call me by the end of the day to tell me when it would be available, of course, no phone call. There are plenty of bike shops in central NJ, the shops that provide good customer service will survive. I called another shop, told them I'm buying 2 $450.00 bikes, a car carrier, 2 helmets, water bottles and miscellaneous accessories and I wondered if they would offer a discount. They said they would give me 10% off since I was buying so much, Pops had said no discount. You're a relatively new business, I'd say you need to step up your game. Nice people at Pops, but that only gets you so far. It's a shame, I live a few miles from Pops, but now I have to travel 15 or so miles whenever I need some accessories or service. Very frustrating... PS When you review the owners remarks below, please know he is lying through his teeth. I called two times and spoke to two of his employees, they both said the owner would call me back and he never did. I therefore shopped elsewhere and dealt with true, organized professionals. read more

So happy to have these guys around. I used to frequent their "shop" when they were at Efinger's, so I went when they opened in Bound Brook. Great guys, very knowledgeable. Shop rides on Saturday are a lot of fun and a great group of people, and my son was able to get a great helmet at a great price that he picked out from the decent selection. Called Pops in Somerville because I needed pedals/cleats/shoes. Was told they had just what I was looking for. I schlepped out there (25 minute drive) to find what looked like a very small narrow pop up store with virtually no merchandise. They had one pair of overpriced pedals, no shoes. I asked if they'd install pedals if I ordered them on amazon and they were disinterested. Told me to try their Bound Brook store instead to see if they had what I was looking for. No offer to make a phone call to said store to save me the trip. Very disappointing customer service. Didn't go to their bound brook store, went to liberty cycle in basking ridge instead where I found what I was looking for and received great service. read more
