Staff was incredibly friendly from the moment we entered. The young men in the front were so polite, and helped with directions. The women at the front desk were also welcoming. We appreciated the hostess at the entrance for giving such a lovely first impression. Our waitresses also delivered the best customer and food service possible. I'm a lover of all things Edition Hotel, so I was excited to celebrate the new year here with family and friends. We enjoyed our table service with bottles of Clicquot, and some finger foods. The calamari and shrimp were also very good! And the vibes and ambiance in the space were great. The theme of the night was ostentatious, and the celebration definitely hit the mark! This restaurant is inside a hotel, the place is super moody and sexy and overall very nice. For drinks I had the cucumber martini which was refreshing and very good. I started with the sweet pea guacamole which came with chips and was delicious, I also had the potatoes nuggets which were a pleasant surprise and but my favorite thing I had here was the Hamachi Crudo which I highly recommend. For mains I had the glazed short rib tacos which come topped with fried crispy onions and overall was a 10/10, I tried the fried fish tacos which were okay. We checked this place out for dinner. It was fairly a quiet night. If you can, choose to dine outside. It feels like you're in a tropical island, romantic and beautiful compared to the indoor dining space, which is fancy and modernized. They first serve you bread and some olive oil on the side. We ordered several dishes: Pea empanadas, Charred Octopus , Glazed short short rib tacos, Black Truffle and Fontina Cheese pizza and Arroz con Pollo. My boyfriend's favorite dish was the pea empanadas while mine were the arroz con pollo. The truffle pizza and glazed short rib tacos were okay, but worth skipping them. The charred octopus was good too, but I have had better. We also ordered cocktails and we found the watermelon one tasting the best. The servers were attentative and professional. Bugs on the table when we first got there. Some weird egg laying creatures that were in the middle of the crease of the table. They do not pull apart the tables and wipe them individually. They just wiped them with the tables put together. That was a very bad first impression of our first 5 seconds. So we moved tables. We of course wanted to order the delicious beef with chimichurri but of course that was not available that day. So why not get lobster? The lobsters were tiny. Basically appetizers sold as main courses. No comp or free dessert after the bug mishap. But they definitely noticed and rather than apologizing with something they just apologized. Wasn't really happy about that. Questioned whether the food was clean. And the busser did not speak English / was not very friendly. This was our third time at this restaurant. The experience has faded. The ambience does not match the food. The room is worn. Tables are chipped and sofas scratched. Placemats are paper as if one was in a diner. The food is good but there are some disappointments. The palm of hearts salad was delicious at the Julian Serrano Steak House at the Aria in Las Vegas, and was perfection . However, the mealy tomato and mushy heart of palm were substandard. The cheesy 1980s music did not match the Spanish tapas menu. And the dining room looks more like a conference room. Later in the meal, the live rave DJ music in the bar competed with the cheesy music. This review is based solely on my personal experience but I would not recommend it for sophisticated tastes. This place is a vibe! I stayed at the Edition for about 10 days and I went to this bar most of the time I was there. The staff is very friendly. The cocktails were 5 stars. Had been wanting to try matador room for a while. There was an event I accompanied my sister to on the rooftop so we decided to head down to the restaurant. The decor is dim lit and wood and has a sexy ambiance. We waited at the bar for our reservation. Bar tender took forever to acknowledge us, clearly understaffed on a Tuesday. Finally we were sat down. Service was absolutely horrible. It took them 30 mins to bring drinks, and even longer to bring the bread. My sister also did not like her drink from the bar, asked to switch it out untouched and they charged anyway. The butternut squash pizza was definitely enough for only one person, and it didn't have fresh squash, just a purée. The Brussels salad and the mashed potato were ok. It's located in the Edison Hotel. The bar is nice I like the theme of matadors on the walls: it's got a sexy vibe to it. The restaurant was great. I loved it. Although it was kind of empty when we were there which made it feel a little sad. If it was filled this would be happening, I think we were there on an off day? Food was great. Wine list even better. The serving sizes are a little small for the price but we did realize that would likely be the case going into the meal so it didn't bother us. We sat on the weatherproofed patio and it was great to be able to do that since it was raining and very windy. Overall it was a great meal and experience. While staying at the Edition, my husband and I dined at Matador. We opted to sit at the bar and we were greeted by Max. Max has provided service for us before and he remained the same during this encounter. He is super friendly, attentive, and makes really great drinks. We opted for the black and fontina cheese pizza and the calamari. We ordered a basil jalapeño margarita and a tropical old fashioned. Both drinks were exceptional and the food exceeded our expectation. The weather was perfect for outside seating. Overall, we enjoyed Matador and look forward to dining again in the future. read more

Excellent food in a beautiful atmosphere. I dined on the veranda and it had a fantastic view of the jungle garden and pool. I had the jamon iberico, the fantastic maitake with goat cheese, charred octopus, and beef tenderloin burnt ends. Five star food, but only four stars because of a significant delay the last appetizer dish and the entree, the tenderloin, of about a half an hour. It appears that someone in the kitchen forgot about the final dish. While the waitress said it would be coming out soon, it wasn't soon, and there was no apology. At least there should have been an apology or better yet something compted on the bill, like a glass of one of the two glasses of cava. This seems to be a trend at restaurants, even high end ones, with delays in service, either an apology at most or just nothing. I this is the second time recently this has happened to me at the house restaurants at a Marriott property. Are there orders from corporate headquarters instructing restaurants to ignore service errors or delays? All the more strange as my appetizers came out on top of each other, there was little effort to properly space each dish. But the tenderloin was definitely worth the wait, cooked perfectly and delicious. I'm uncertain why they called it Burnt Ends. The bread was delicious as well. Over all, excellent. Will I return? Likely, there are some more dishes I want to try. Work on the timing between dishes though. read more

My art week plans kicked off early this year in Miami Beach. Tonight, we found ourselves with empty tummies and no dinner reservations. Thankfully, we were able to walk right up to a couple of open seats at the bar in Matador Room in the Miami Beach Edition. That is practically unheard of in this busy season!⁣ ⁣ We began our evening early on empty stomachs and therefore had a great excuse to load up on carbs by the end of the night. Highly recommend both the Black Truffle and Fontina Cheese Pizza, AND the Pepperjack Cheeseburger, for your bar bites and an old fashioned to wash it all down. I've been coming here for years now and Matador has become my favorite restaurant in all of Florida. We've spent hundreds of dollars on birthday dinners and even brought our friends. Unfortunately my most recent visit has changed my mind. Our waitress was snobby and when I told her I needed a moment to figure out what I wanted to drink - she snatched the drink menu from the table and walked off. Bread was amazing as always but unfortunately the star of the show that always brings us back was off the menu. My partner and I always used to get the beef tenderloin with a spicy sauce. We noticed that it is no longer a tenderloin but a sirloin served with chimmichurri sauce. We hate cilantro and asked if there was anything that could be served instead - all that could be offered was Tabasco. We went ahead and ordered it anyways since we came specifically for the steak and it was very dry. Almost inedible but after the $60 price tag we forced ourselves to eat as much as we could. Our waitress didn't check in once to see how our meal was going or if everything was up to standard. I rave about Matador's desserts but I had such a sour taste in my mouth that I couldn't even stomach staying another second. My desire to stay at the Miami Beach edition has been erased and frankly we probably won't be back to Matador Room which is incredibly sad to me. read more

I have nothing but amazing things to say about the Matador Room. We've been here for brunch and dinner on a number of occasions, and we had our 18-person rehearsal dinner here just a few weeks ago, the night before our wedding at The EDITION, just a few floors up on the 4th floor terrace. (More on that in my hotel review, forthcoming.) The food is everything you would expect from a Jean Georges restaurant, with an atmosphere to match. Eating outside is clearly the way to go, as the terrace is lush and well-appointed, and usually comes with a nice breeze, overlooking the pool. I'm not even going to bore you with the food we've eaten. Between all of our meals here, plus the rehearsal dinner, we've probably had just about everything, and l can't think of single thing we didn't completely enjoy. However, I will say that the coconut pancakes are undoubtedly the best pancakes I've ever eaten, and for dinner, you would absolutely be missing out if you didn't try the octopus and arroz con pollo, among many other things. The staff is absolutely wonderful, the service impeccable, and the drinks are fantastic. Every time we come here I can't wait to make a reservation to come back. read more

More relaxed environment at the beach and the outdoor terrace of this restaurant has a beautiful view of the adult pool and ocean. I always get the chicken tacos--nice flakey coating--and goes great with the homemade guacamole. Wash it down with one of their homemade sodas, such as Ginger, and it is a great light meal read more

This Caribbean/Latin American restaurant overseen by Jean Georges delivers a pretty nice dining experience with the delectable food, high quality service and decor that has become synonymous with his name. Matador Room has a lovely bar with multiple seating options, a circular formal dining room and a well appointed outdoor terrace. It is located in the Miami Edition hotel and seems to attract a mixed crowd of hotel and outside guests. It wasn't quite as bustling as I expected for prime time on a recent Saturday, but this made it all the more enjoyable since the decibel level was manageable. We opted for the main formal dining room... it is comfy and elegant in an unpretentious way and not reminiscent of some of JG's more formal restaurants. Our server Sultan was so personable and he delivered A plus service from top to bottom. The wine list is quite expansive and we very much appreciated the high quality bottles which were quite reasonably priced. For example, we noticed multiple bottles which were marked up approximately 2x retail; in my experience, high end places can mark up the wine 3-5x so this was a pleasant and welcomed surprise. We opted for the Domaine Serene Pinot Noir 2017. Very tasty. We started our culinary adventure with the Maitake mushrooms followed by the raw shaved snapper crudo. Highly recommend both. We moved on to the gulf shrimp with a chili oil which was probably the most mediocre dish we had. Our last stop was the arroz con pollo which was one of the most flavorful dishes we had. Don't be fooled by the pedestrian sounding dish! It is quite spectacular and lived up to the hype of our server Sultan! We did save room for dessert and I am glad we did. I had a citrus merengue pie with sorbet which was Jean George's version of lemon merengue. This one was a blend of citrus flavor and was simply divine. The texture of the filling was a bit spongy which I loved and the flavor profile was delicate. In classic fashion, my husband opted for Jean Georges Warm chocolate cake. Not your average warm valrhona cake. Balanced, decadent and delicious. This was a solid 4 star experience. We would surely return to try other menu items and to dine on the outdoor terrace. read more

The bread came with this amazing dipping sauce that the chef is famous for, and I don't even know how to describe it. Spicy, sweet, it's great for dipping and I used it on my tacos. We started with Charred Octopus with Crispy Potatoes, Smoked Paprika and Herbs, and it was superb! My main course was Griddled Florida Black Grouper Tacos and my friend had Glazed Short Rib Tacos, which she described as best short ribs she has ever eaten. The place also has a great wine selection. We loved the family style approach as we were able to taste many dishes. Amazing wine and cocktail selection, as well. Do not come here. Our party of 2 arrived for an 8pm reservation. We were seated and waited quite a while to be acknowledged. Once we were finally able to order we attempted to order 3 dishes. After the 2nd dish was ordered our server rudely said "I'm going to stop you there" and would not allow for us to order the 3rd dish. After our 2 dishes arrived and we ate them, see below for details regarding the dishes, we decided to leave as it had taken an exorbitant amount of time to be waited on, we even attempted to order the 3rd dish 3 times with no one taking our order. Upon receiving our check we were issued an18% gratuity fee which was not deserved as the service was horrible. Addiotionally the check was $104 for 2 drinks, 6 shrimp and 5 cheese fritters. When we explained our frustration considering how highly priced the food items are and the upscale restaurant, the server said "I don't have time, I have 4 other tables waiting for me." Additionally, we were asked multiple times if we were hotel guests as if that should make a difference on how you treat a customer. Matador, you have some serious management problems. Apparently you had a bunch of people call in sick with only one waiter. However you had 4-5 "waiter assistants" and still no service. I would not recommend this place to anyone. It is a shame, considering how beautiful the dining room is and the food is decent. Jamon and cheese fritters with chipotle sauce: delicious very flavorful Shrimp with chili oil: delicious but not worth the price tag of $26; incredibly overpriced for shrimp you could find at another restaurant.
