The building was significantly damaged and we had no idea what would come next. We made a call to Cornerstone and from the very beginning Joe the owner was very clear we will rebuild your home and you'll have it for "another hundred years". From that moment we knew we had to work with Cornerstone. They had a vision, a plan, and the right people to execute everything we could have wanted. The 120 year old three family home had to be competent rebuilt aside from the frame. We upgraded many items compared to before the fire such as installing central air, adding a sprinkler system, changing the rear stairwell, moving walls in rooms, adding a new master bath that didn't exist before. They were communicative, kept us informed of every major step along the way, and always had foresight of upcoming milestones and got ahead of them. They are very proactive in every part of the project so you will never feel like things are stalled. They are professional, courteous, and dependable. We are very happy with the outcome and truly have a home that will last us another 100 years just as promised. We couldn't recommend Cornerstone enough to anyone looking for work to be done on their home.

For a little backstory: When some DIY electrical work replacing a ceiling light fixture went wrong, I was stuck without power in my kitchen, living room, or bathroom. I started calling electricians, handy-man services, Home Depot, and anyone else I could get on the line. Mike from MNM Handyman Services was the only person who took the time to listen to me over the phone, and immediately offered some safety tips that allowed me to at least restore power in the rest of my apartment without worrying about electrocuting myself. The very same day, he arrived at my door and took care of the problem. Turns out we were dealing with some pretty ancient wiring, so it wasn't the standard Black/White/Ground situation to connect the fixture. Mike quickly figured out exactly what needed to be done, and explained everything he was doing every step of the way (but of course reminded me never to do it myself unless I know what I'm doing... safety first). Would call 10/10 times for electrical work, or anything else that I can't figure out myself, because I know Mike would make sure it gets done RIGHT. Happy to say I found a friendly, professional, and skilled handyman... a great resolution to what was shaping up to be a disastrous day.

I expected their attention to detail and customer service to be just as detailed as their estimate but they fell far short of meeting our expectations. If it weren't for me directing the painters each day, we would've had a number of areas that were either not painted at all, not properly prepped, or painted the wrong color. I gave one star because their painters did an acceptable job...but only because I had to manage them by myself. They needed direction, which the project manager Pete did not provide. And when he was here he never gave me a heads up; if I happened to notice Pete was here he would disappear before I could get outside to look at things with him. At the end of the job, even on the last day, he did not meet with us when punch list items should have been reviewed. They also refused to do the last bit of work we planned on. It was estimated separately because they were still discussing with us which floor sealer to use and another contractor had to install the gutters first before they came back to paint them. Pete, backed up by Nigel (the owner) decided they didn't want to work with us anymore because they "did not meet our expectations." Normally if a business admits to not meeting the expectations of their customer, they try to correct the problem to make the customer happy. In this case, apparently because we complained about the above issues as well as some damage to our antique hardware and floor, they dumped us with 1-2 days work left to do. (They didn't have to honor the second estimate because we hadn't paid a deposit yet - they hadn't billed us yet, though we technically had a verbal and written agreement via email). Lesson learned, if you arrange work on a separate estimate, be sure to pay the deposit so they are locked into finishing your job! When invoiced, they tried to charge us for work not done (I knew this because I was here everyday managing the job) so i had to ask them to reduce the bill by that amount. When I received the adjusted invoice, I asked for a discount due to our dismal experience, the amount of personal time I had to spend managing this project, as well as the damage that they did not address. The owner responded by threatening to have his lawyer put a lien on our house instead of first trying to make this right, which is the number one tenet of customer service. Incredibly disappointing and confusingly awful customer service. DO NOT HIRE THEM.
