I was searching for a new mechanic after a very bad experience with my previous mechanic, and I found MasterTech on Yelp. Of course I liked the 5-star status of MasterTech, but I also liked what I actually read in the numerous reviews that I sifted through. I'm happy to say that I, too, am very pleased to have found them: After speaking with Herbert (the Owner) on the phone and getting a very fair quote on the work I needed done to my 4Runner (I had shopped around a bit, and his quote beat the others significantly), I brought my truck in and met with him. He instilled me with confidence, not only with his friendly personality, but he added the icing on the cake by offering to text me pictures of his progress once work got started on my truck. That was huge for me. With his intricate knowledge of my Toyota, my faith in him and his team has now transferred into me having faith in my truck. No longer do I have to "sweat bullets" every time I drive it; what a relief! I received my truck back 2 days later, and given the considerable amount of work that I needed done, this was FAST! Master tech is easily the best mechanic that I have been too. I've gone a few times in the past couple months, and each time I've gone Herbert has been straight up with me and told me exactly what was wrong and fixed it quick. It all came at an extremely fair price too. I was expecting to hear about a bunch of different problems with my car like what usually happens at a mechanic, but that wasn't the case here. Really impressive after 2 years of living in SB area to find someone as Herbert and other members of MasterTech who really CARES about your car, your safety and most important and surprising about your wallet by letting you spend money ONLY on what important instead of taking from you everything that possible! I came to MasterTech recently after 75000 maintenance of my ToyotaSienna in DCH on PCH where they told me my car needs urgent repair or my safety is endangered and the cost was $2600, I decided to check, just in case, with another place and chose MasterTech as they are specialists in Lexus and Toyota. After driving together with me and visual exam on the overhead lift Herbert didn't find anything in that area to be concerned about and told me I do not owe him anything for spending 30-40 minutes on me!!! To say I was surprised is to say nothing! From today I am loyal client of MasterTech and do not need to go anywhere else! Never been here before and stopped by after I purchased a used Prius. I now know why he has 5 stars on his Yelp. I had some small issues with the hood and he put it up on the rack to give it a nice once-over. He then actually took me for an instructional ride around the block showing me how to drive the car properly for maximum gas mileage which was very cool and helpful. Not many mechanics I know would do that. He literally went the extra mile. read more

Amazing!!! Herbert is so personable and charismatic. He is patient and I didn't feel judged by him at all for not knowing anything about the mechanics of my car. It was a quick and easy fix, which he guided me on very descriptively. Talk about disappointing. I had called to make an appointment last week, to get our used van a "complete head to toe diagnostic", and then to start taking care of repairs one at a time. I specified what kind of vehicle I have ( 89 Ford van) and how old it was and everything about it, and he say yeahh, come in on Wednesday, it should take a couple hours. Jump to Wednesday, I show up, and immediately it's like I never called and told him about my vehicle. He hears 89 and I'd like ehhh I don't usually work on stuff that old, I thought it was newer. Then he asks what is wrong with it and I list a few problems I've been having. He said he can't do it because there's too many problems ( thus why I brought it to you, a mechanic) and that the diagnostic would take a couple days even if he could. Far off from the couple of hours or even the same day would have been fine. I even said OK can you check it out not all at once then because we live in and are converting our van. Which evidently he couldn't because he started listing off more reasons why he can't work on it, such as not enough space, etc. I was really stoked to get my work done here, after reading good reviews. I wouldn't recommend this place if you don't have a brand new car. Wasted my time, as I had cancelled another appointment, because they gave a good quote. I'll get all my work done somewhere else. read more

I came here based on the Yelp reviews. I'm originally from San Diego and needed to get some work done on my 06 Scion xB. My car was losing power and a few lights on my dash came on. I called first thing in the morning when they opened and Herbert told me to come in for a free diagnostic. When I arrived, Herbert gave me the run down on my vehicle within the first 10-15 mins, showing and explaining to me the possible issues with my vehicle. He gave me an estimate, and stated that it was 2 possible issues and asked if I wanted to shop around for other mechanics. I ended up getting my car fixed there. When I called to pick up my vehicle, Herbert told me that he didn't have to replace a part he had originally thought and he saved me a few hundred dollars. It's hard to find honest mechanics like him. He's not there to take advantage of his customers. He takes pride in his work and is very knowledgeable. I found my mechanic while I'm living here in Torrance. I'd highly recommend this shop to anyone. read more

When I brought my car to the shop I needed my serpentine belt and tension pulley replacement. Turns out I needed to replace my tensioner the quote was $150 and they didn't charge more for the extra work only $20 more for the part. It worked out very nicely the car was done exactly the time I was expecting it even with the extra work that it needed. Herbert exhibited the highest level of professionalism and hospitality. I've been to other mechanic shops all over the south bay and the valley where they can't fix the problem and lie saying its something else totally unrelated to main issue and then price gouge you with high cost of service and parts. Master Tech is none of that. I took my car in for rattling sound in the engine. They told what was causing the sound, how much to fix it and how long it will take. After ordering parts and in the middle of fixing the problem, he found another issue and quickly called me to let me know and how much it would cost to fix it.. Well, that other issue was the main problem for the sound. Where other mechanic shops would have put in the parts order, charge me up the a$$ for parts and labor and save the other issue for me to come back anoher time so they charge me for another visit, Herbert at Master Tech, just fixed the main issue and DID NOT install and charge for the unnessesary parts and labor and best part, it all ended up being cheaper than originally quoted. Herbert is honest and fair and has earned my trust and business. He has great staff and are efficient. I've taken my cars there many other times and the great service is consistent. And dont judge a book by its cover. The place is a little hole in the wall shop in the corner but there is no other place better as Master Tech above all other shops in the area. read more

Herbert runs his auto repair business better than any dealership. He and his employees did some massive repairs on my 2004 Toyota Sienna. He supplied me with a free loaner car because the work was going to take a few days. Along the way, he texted me photos of what they were doing, along with my car parts that were being replaced. Who does that? No dealership I know of. It's like it's all a secret, but not at Master Tech with Herbert. No secrets here. He's very open about the repairs you need, and his prices are very fair and much less than the dealer. And I"m talking about 1/3 of the cost of the dealer for the work I had done. I brought my Ford Explorer to Herbert for a diagnosis because it was misfiring horribly and had a loss of power with hesitation and I didn't have time to diagnose it myself. He gave a cockamamie tale about carbon on the valves absorbing gasoline, preventing the cylinder from firing. I knew this to be chemically and physically impossible (I am a mechanical engineer with the knowledge to design almost every system in an automobile), so I accepted his answer and left knowing that I would have to do the troubleshooting and repair myself. The problem was a spark plug with a broken positive insulator sleeve - I am lucky the broken piece didn't fall into my engine. Since he didn't actually provide me a service (he didn't want to) I wouldn't have written this review had he simply been honest with me. Unfortunately, he wasn't - so I am writing to say that I wouldn't trust Herbert at Master Tech. read more

He took the time to explain and show my brakes and rotors and their condition. He seemed very reasonable with his prices and I was glad that he insisted on putting my car's brand brakes. I was very happy with Master Tech. I took my 180,000 mile 2002 Honda CRV there in September because I needed to pass the smog test, and I had the engine light on (automatic fail). As I suspected, I needed a new catalytic converter. They did this work in a couple days along with some other minor fixes. It was much cheaper than the dealer, and the car is running better than ever. I'm going for at least 200,000 miles, and I'm hoping Mastertech can help get me there. Only downsides are that parking is cramped, the Hertz next door was unfriendly when I returned the rental car, and there isn't much space to wait; however, these are minor issues. read more

I can say firsthand, you can tell that Herbert is not satisfied unless he exceeds your expectations and wins you as a long-term customer. He went above and beyond to diagnose and explain a strange sound my car was making. (Multiple test drives, visual inspection on the lift, and he even drew a picture for me.) He checked and verified that it wasn't a safety issue, just an annoying sound - at no cost to me. He lubricated the part, gave me a fair quote to replace it - and told me it was my choice.
