Upon arrival, the place was nearly empty, which we enjoyed because we were able to seat ourselves. Our waitress was very friendly and she brought us some of their tasty Coke products. For dinner, we requested a large pizza. My wife requested Caprice on her half and I requested Edgar Allen Poe on my half. My son requested pepperoni and sausage on his pizza. In a short time, our pizzas were delivered. I let ours cool off for a few minutes while we chatted. Then I sprinkled some red pepper flakes on my slices and chowed down. The pizza wais fresh and delicious, as always. I very much enjoy scratch made pizza and this place serves it up to order. We'll be back.

The chowder was about what you would expect, creamy with some chewy clams and not a lot of spice. The fried fish was good, flaky whitefish nicely cooked; the fries and coleslaw were ok, but not very memorable. My second visit was to get a large cheese pizza to go. The pizza looked and smelled great with a nice yeasty aroma. The pizza actual is nicely balanced with a nice chewy crust, a simple tomato sauce and well cooked cheese. All of the elements are fine, but there was a lack of spice or punch, its a nice inoffensive meal, but I was hoping for more. Mr G's is a nice place for some decent Italian food, but my experiences were that I was looking for bigger flavors.

When you order your drink, it comes out quickly so they most likely expect you to just wait a minute before grabbing it and your table number before going to sit down. The ladies behind the counter were nice and efficient and clear with directions regarding water and where to get the drinks and food. Like I said, I didn't have any problems with service or its directions. Not to mention they have 3 different kinds of spots to hangout and eat suiting your mood: a patio, a darker "dining room" (pictured below) and a bright gelato spot. Highly recommend! When I arrived around 1:00 pm, the café was quiet. There was no one at the counter, so I walked around to find someone and ask where to sit since the space has more of a café feel on one end and a wine-bar feel on the other. I was told to order at the counter and sit anywhere. I sat in the front area to wait for my friend. Once she arrived, we went up to order. I asked about a menu and was pointed to a sign on the counter. Since it was my first visit in a while, I asked the employee what she recommended, and she flipped the sign to a breakfast sandwich called The Sal. I ordered that. I then had to ask about beverages, as none were mentioned. I only wanted water and was directed to a carafe on the counter to serve myself. Our food came out within a few minutes. The presentation was a little disappointing. I chose the vegetable side, which turned out to be two carrot sticks and two celery sticks lying in a small puddle of water. The sandwich looked good, but when I took my first bite, it was overwhelmingly salty. I understand bacon is salty, but this tasted like an excessive amount of salt had been added. After a second bite, I brought it back to the register and asked if it could be replaced, which they did. My disappointment wasn't so much in the mistake, but in the lack of acknowledgment--there was no apology and no follow-up to ask if the replacement was better. The restaurant wasn't busy, and while I'm sure they have many regulars, the lack of greeting when I walked in and the lack of follow-up stood out to me. I did appreciate the wall of ancestors--it was a nice touch--but overall the service felt disengaged. Maybe it was an off day, or perhaps inexperience from a young staff. We sat down at a table of our choosing and ordered a pizza from the neighboring Antonio's. Then we grabbed a glass, washed it in the automatic washer, and had our first beverage. I started off with a cider, which was tasty. A few minutes later, our pizza arrived, but it didn't have the correct toppings. We didn't care about the pizza, but the staff insisted on having it remade for us. We finished the first pizza and then they brought us another one. They didn't charge us anything for either pizza due to the error. So we took the 2nd pizza to go. We tried to tip the waitresses on our credit card, but they said there is no need to do that because the guests serve themselves, except for food. So if you want to tip, you should probably bring cash. The pizza was very tasty and there was a large selection of drinks. I like the concept and since it is close to home, we'll visit again.

Gioninos was always one of my go to places, but for far longer than I'd care to admit I'd drive waaaay out of my way to go to a location that I knew cared about their product. About once a year, out of convenience we would order from this one, and it was totally hit or miss. Sometimes it was decent, other times it was terrible, you just never knew what you were going to get. About a yearish ago, I heard they changed ownership, so we gave them a shot, and now it's become our weekend go to for ordering pizza in the area. The food is consistent, and the quality is the same as you get at most of the other locations. Our normal order is a large pepperoni and a small gionino bread (cheesy garlic bread), and sometimes chicken and jojos. It's really good every week. If you've been avoiding it like I did for years, maybe give them another try!
