Yesterday I underwent TPI and was feeling terribly stiff and achy. I searched for a place to go and landed on New You (they were the only place with availability). I arrived and explained that I needed more than the average 30 minute chair massage, and combined for 45 minutes. I was under the care of Jessica (or Jessia) and I almost cried. This skillful masseuse instinctively knew that I needed a very strong and deep massage. And she ended with my neck. I whined when it was finished because I had never felt so good. And once I sat up she stood behind me and messaged my neck for another couple of minutes. I have no idea if that is typical, or she knew the sheer level of arthritis and muscular pain I walked in with. Relaxing massages are great but that's not what I need, and I didn't even have to explain that. She was so lovely and skillful. I fully intend to be a regular there, and will be asking specifically to be under the care of Jessica (or Jessia).

They use a third party website to purchase gift cards. On this site, you have to sign up/create an account and book an appointment. When you get to the payment part, there is no option to use a gift card. Instead, they ask you to enter your credit card information. Why should I have to enter my credit card information if I have a gift card, especially as that was the sole purpose of having to sign up to use the gift card and schedule an appointment. That was the first red flag for me. So I thought, let me call them instead and book the appointment since the site doesn't seem to have an option to select that I have a gift card I want to use. What I didn't want to happen is I enter my credit card information and then go for my massage just to be told I have to pay with my credit card and that they wouldn't somehow recognize or even accept my gift card. This turned out to be the case. When I make the phone call, I explained I had a gift card and that I want to make an appointment. I was told to just come in and I tried to clarify if it's better to make an appointment or just walk in (people that were walking in were being told they would have to come back in an hour/45 minutes as they didn't have people avaiable). The man on the phone kept saying to come in multiple times and at some point changed his mind and said that appointment is better. I tell him what time I want to come in the next day but it doesn't seem like he really takes note of that as he didn't really ask for my information. The next day I go in just to be told that they don't accept gift cards and do not have any record of a gift card purchase and that I should get a refund. I showed them a copy of the digital gift card and also mentioned to them that they have a link on their website that allows people to buy gift cards and there wasn't really any acknowledgement of that. I told them that they might want to take that down if they don't accept gift cards as payments. They asked me if I still wanted to have a massage appointment and I declined.

This option was not on their menu, however I was accommodated. I specifically said shoulders and arms because this is my touching comfort level. My massage was very good. However, the masseuse went down my back. Even pulling down my pants to my upper buttock area. I've had plenty massages before so I know techniques, and the masseuse didn't do anything wrong. However, working in the legal field, if a male masseuse did this to a female he would be arrested and the salon would have a professional liability claim against them. This is specifically why I asked for shoulders and arms, to stay out the gray area of inappropriate massages. In addition, I didn't like the masseuse attempting to upcharge the services. $10 extra for coconut oil, $30 extra for back scrub, $10 extra to walk on back. I didn't get the full 30 mins either. With all this said, I would still return, The masseuse was friendly, the place was quiet and clean, and she did an excellent job. The place had a nice vibe and their prices weren't outrageous.

The combination of Thai…read morestretch and massage is great for people that work out, because it really gives you a deep deep stretch as part of the muscle, deep tissue massage. This combination is better than "one or the other." Song is strong, so for muscular folks who are doing heavy lifting, This is the guy you want. And when you get done, your hips are open. So is your chest and you'll feel a restoration of range of motion in your shoulders. In fact, it relieved a lot of my inflammation caused by incline.Bench presses. Once you're done with the massage, tye freedom of movement and motion is incredible. This may be a new once a week or once every two week part of my workout schedule. Do your yourself a favor and just try this out.- make sure you get the combination of the deep tissue with the stretch. It was $90 without tip. I'm writing this review an hour after the massage and stretch. And I just keep feeling looser and looser.

I was really looking forward to trying this massage place because of all the great reviews I had…read moreread, but unfortunately, my experience was quite disappointing. I really liked that they allow you to choose the areas you want the therapist to focus on. Since I spend a lot of time typing, I specifically circle my shoulders. Because I also drive frequently and spend a lot of time sitting in traffic, I circle my glutes/buttocks, which tend to get very tight. I had Jennifer, and unfortunately, I felt that she spent very little time addressing the areas I specifically requested. Out of the 60-minute massage, I would say only about 15 minutes total were spent focusing on my problem areas. Much of the massage consisted of her using her arm to roll over my back, which didn't really provide the targeted pressure or relief I was hoping for. I also requested a medium deep tissue massage, but the experience felt more like a light Swedish massage. At one point, she placed a hot stone on me without warning. It was extremely hot and startled me enough to jump, so she ended up stopping the hot stone portion altogether. When she had me turn over, she also spent some time massaging my head, but unfortunately, I didn't find it particularly relaxing. I normally get Thai massages and have had much better experiences, especially when it comes to therapists listening to the areas that need the most attention and adjusting the pressure accordingly. My friend had Tina during the same visit and had a completely different experience. He requested a firm massage, and Tina did an excellent job focusing on his problem areas and providing the pressure he asked for. His experience was much more in line with what I was hoping for. That being said, I still tipped Jennifer 20% because I appreciate the time and effort she put into providing the service. However, based on my personal experience, this would unfortunately be near the bottom of my list when choosing a massage place. I hope the management takes this feedback constructively. I came in with high expectations because of the positive reviews, and I would have really appreciated a massage that was more customized to the areas and pressure I specifically requested.

The interior was calming and they had cold water, drinks, and an assortment of snacks for customers to enjoy. The deep tissue massage itself was so phenomenal. My upper back is in shambles because I work at a desk 8-10 hours a day. Zhennette explained whah she was doing at each step of the way and continually checked in to make sure that I was okay and wasn't feeling too much pain. Overall, this was a fantastic experience and I am looking forward to coming back. :)

My experiences at Woodhouse Spa Avalon have been somewhat disappointing…read more During my most recent visit, the facial itself was average. However, what concerned me most was what happened afterward. After completing my facial, the esthetician, Mimi, left the treatment room to allow me to get dressed. When she stepped out, she also went to get me a mimosa, but when she returned, she unexpectedly opened the door without knocking, nor announcing herself, or waiting for me to indicate that I was ready. I was still undressed and had not yet put my robe back on. Startled, I quickly told her that I would be right out. I felt that my privacy was violated. The esthetician, Mimi, knew I was in the process of getting dressed, so I don't understand why she would enter the room without any warning. I found this disrespectful and uncomfortable, as though I wasn't being afforded the basic privacy and courtesy that an adult guest should expect. During a previous visit, while relaxing in the Quiet Room after my treatment, I requested another glass of wine. An employee abruptly snapped at me, "Well, how many have you had?" in a sharp, nasty, and accusatory tone, with a frown on her face, as though she were angry with me. Her delivery felt unnecessarily aggressive and condescending, as though I were a child being scolded for simply asking for another drink. I responded that I had only had one glass. Rather than explaining why she was questioning me, she walked away without any explanation. When she returned, I asked her why she had questioned me about how many drinks I had consumed. Only then did she explain that there was a two-glass limit, which I had no issue with. My concern was the disrespectful manner in which she addressed me. Rather than simply explaining the policy courteously, she made me feel as though I had done something wrong by asking. The interaction was unpleasant and detracted from the peaceful, relaxing experience I had just paid to enjoy. I enjoy the spa's atmosphere, but these experiences have made me hesitant to recommend this location. I believe greater attention to customer service, professionalism, and guest privacy would improve the overall experience.
