Following the renovations the spa is still located in the basement which is not ideal as you can hear the subway. Once you check in a staff member walks you through the change room explaining how to use the lockers, sauna and steam room. The space is also nothing special meaning it looks like any other spa. There are his and her change rooms where you can also find a stream room and sauna. Full shower facilities with access to shampoos, lotions, hair dryers etc. They carry La Labo for their body products which is quite nice. Lounge area is co-ed but is small. This is where you can find complementary water, coffee, tea and light snacks. Couples massage room is like any other massage room. Two tables and a standard soaker tub that looks like it only fits one. Massage was okay but I know like other places, depending on who you get it's hit or miss. We were celebrating a birthday so a complementary glass of prosecco was offered. I ranked it a 3 but In general better than a 3 but not quite a 4. I know it's been upgraded and is more zen and modern but I miss the old space where there were more options of services.

I booked a 30 minute therapeutic massage at 12:45 pm with female RMT Chris, which cost about $130 total. They told me to come about 1 hour before check in to enjoy the complimentary water pools. I would strongly recommend going before 12 or 1 pm om weekdays cause it gets more crowded and loud afterwards. I dont think weekends are advisable due to all the other reviews I read. When I went, only 8-10 women were in the spa and that was enough for me. If you have never been like me, they can give you a little 2 minute tour. Once you are inside the spa area, on the right side you will see a locker room to change and put your things away (they give you a locker key), a vanity room to get ready (hair dryer, hair brush, q-tips, cotton pads, hair ties are provided), and a washroom. Their are also slippers you can use (see inside cabinets) and you will get a face towel, body towel and robe. They have 3 pools (cold, warm and hot), a sauna and steam room. Be sure to do a quick body rinse before going in. You can do their suggested water circuit. I did one full circuit but then went to steam room again. I then took shower in preparation of my massage. If you want to continue water circuit after beauty service you will have to wash off any oils and creams used before going back in again. For my massage, they take you into a private room in another quiet zone area. Chris was pretty good, I wanted to focus on my shoulders and neck. Maybe lower back if there was time. I found she was going to light and asked her for deeper pressure which really worked out the knots. She didnt have time to properly do my lower back tho which was fine cause I only did 30 mins. So if you need something similar, I recommend 45 or 1 hour massage appointment so she can do full body. Note for improvement, I did notice they have filtered water fountians but I think they could have done cucumber or lemon water as a nicer touch. They do have a juice bar though, I tried their Vitamin D smoothie which was popular there. Overall, I wouldn't mind returning if I wanted to treat myself but it's very similar to the Korean jimjilbang (sauna) in the sense that its very communal like. A bit higher end but not as much variety as some Korean saunas. If you rather save money and are more focused on pools then I suggest Korean sauna. If you want a massage like me and water pools is a nice extra then this could be a good spot.

I'm so glad I was able to do two sessions here and honestly, I think about this place every day. The guides here are so special. The concept of other ship is contrast therapy: there is sauna, and cold plunge. But it's unlike any contrast therapy I've done. It's a 75 minute class where you go in and your swimsuit and it's coed. You take part in a version of Aufguss - a sauna where they break balls of ice infused with delicious essential oils. I took a Gacha class where you do lymphatic drainage and then I also took a heart opener class. They also have free flow where there's no guide. The cold plunge is really special - you get paired up but if the class is small you can go alone. I've cold plunged a lot, and this experience transformed me. I was able to stay really, really calm and have a euphoric experience. The guides also use a tuning fork after the cold plunge to get you to calm the nervous system. The shower and changing room is not ideal for anyone that wants to go about their day after the experience but other than that, I wish I lived in Toronto to do this daily. The staff is also super friendly. They gave me their signature incense for my first visit. I love, love this place.

Just know if you are looking for the total relaxing spa experience- you may not find it here. But you will get an outstanding massage or other service. After staying in the Hazelton Hotel- I had very high hopes for the spa as upstairs in the hotel- my every wish was accommodated. So when I took the elevator down to the basement level- I was a little surprised that I was not warmly greeted- rather I was asked what size shoe I wore and then the receptionist walked me into the small but functional locker room, pointed out my locker and left. I chased her down and asked where the waiting area was for my treatments and she said I needed to come back out to the reception area. Hmmm . . . .seemed odd but okay. Now I go to spas all around the world so I was familiar with the lock on the locker and how it functioned- but even a spa I go to all the time still takes the time to ask if I am familiar with the locking system. And forget reading the instructions on the inside of the door if you are a glasses wearing gal. A great spa makes everything effortless and that was just not the case here. I got changed and went back out to the reception area to sit and wait for my services. Again- this was a bit odd. There were 4 small seats squished into an alcove right by the check in area. So there were people coming and going the whole time I was trying to relax to anticipate my services. And then forget about relaxing there when you are finished . . . .the seats were full so there is no place to relax after your services either. They really need to invest in some type of space for this. The other thing I never even found was the pool and wet area. Turns out it's on another floor- so if you were thinking of a swim after your services- you will need to go upstairs. Another miss for me although there is a steam room in the spa area. Okay- so enough of the down side- let's move on to the stars of this spa and those are surely the services! I started with their scrub. Sarah, the technician was as great as the service as when we were finished- my skin felt like a baby's skin! And then after a quick shower- she massaged some wonderful hydrating lotion into my skin and sent me on to my next service. If there was any downside here- it was that the shower to rinse off in was back in the locker room area versus being in the actual service room which most places that offer scrubs do. I had to put my robe back on- walk past the reception area and into the shower and then back again to finish the service. And while I was escorted to the shower and given a new robe and slippers- it still isn't as nice as just stepping off the table, into the shower and back onto the table. My next service was an hour long deep tissue massage. Elizabeth was my therapist and she was also great! She took the time to listen to any issues I was having and then spent the next hour working on those areas. She also spent time after the service suggesting some things that I can do at home to relieve some of the stress in my shoulders. At this point, I would have liked to sit and relax somewhere with some hot tea but as I mentioned earlier, there really isn't a place here to do that so I just got dressed and left. All in all? Great services in a just okay location. And I guess I expected a little more than that from the Hazelton.

A lovely experience at Massage Matters - a brand new place in a historical building - that had an amazing $45 new customer promotion. I'm not a frequent flyer with massages - but my shoulder muscles were so improved by registered massage therapist Nathan's work, I might become one! I was very pleased with my experience: -got a confirmation email, and a reminder of my appointment -rec'd a friendly welcome and tasty infused water (cucumber? Ginger? Lemon? Maybe I should be reviewing them on urbanspoon!) as I filled out the new customer forms - not too intrusive -Nathan (RMT) had the best "bed-side manner" of any of the massage therapists, physiotherapists etc that I'm ever worked with. He had excellent questions about my health and made certain that the massage was as "correcting" as I needed, in addition to being lovely and relaxing. I would definitely ask for him again. I had my first massage at Massage Matters and it was amazing! All of the staff are very nice and professional and my therapist was very knowledgeable. I was brought a glass of lemon water as soon as I sat down and as soon as my massage was finished, a service I have never received anywhere else. I started seeing Yvonne when I was pregnant and having some hip pain. She was a lifesaver and I swore by her my entire pregnancy. My hip pain diminished and I had a relatively pain free pregnancy, which I credit partly to massage. I just had my first postpartum massage with her. The girl at the reception area was very nice too, spent time listening to my husband describing his ailment and recommended a therapist for him. My husband gets a tuina (masseurs are mostly Chinese with a couple of Caucasians) and I got a Thai massage. Curiously, all the Thai masseuses come from Japan. I heard them chatting in native Japanese while I changed into my Thai clothes before the massage. Is Thai massage that popular in Japan that they have an oversupply of masseuses? Why didn't they import Thai masseuses to do the job for less? Why aren't the Japanese doing shiatsu? Wish I know the answers! Unfortunately, this place fails at what counts the most: the quality of the massage. No, it's not bad, the therapists didn't talk on the phone and didn't hurt me. But the experience was a big meh. I didn't walk out feeling more relaxed or lighter on my feet, let alone sleep deeper that night or walking up refreshed the next day (which happens with a good massage). Despite intake form and reminder, the masseuse did not do extra work on problematic parts. My husband was not happy with his tuina either. At $85 (for the "better" tuina master) and $70 for my Thai, it's not expensive but I didn't feel it was money well spent either. Too bad, so wish to like this place.

To add to the confusion, some of the staff move around so if you find someone you would like to use again, you need to ask for their card and contact. They sometimes work at one spa, and then move to a different one in the area so you need to ask for their availably and not assume anything. As well, their business cards may be from another spa, and not the one you were in. And since their technique and training vary widely, it helps to know what you're in for. The reflexology was done in the massage room, which wasn't quite as good since she skipped the soaking in hot water part, which is good in that there's more time for massage, but bad in that the soaking seems to help relax your feet and feels great! Ask about the soaking when you put in your order as you can choose to have the feet first, or vice versa. And ask if they include soaking in the procedure. Nice spot in the north strip of Chinatown!

Have been going here several times with different masseuse and enjoy most of their massages. Definitely a relaxing experience and they end up giving you a sweet camomille tea as you pay. The place was clean and the rooms were private. Seating area looked very nice. I really enjoyed my foot rub but I did find the shoulder massage was mediocre. I don't think the therapist was targeting the right spots. Perhaps getting one of the other staff might have been better. Other than that, it was a good price.

My first impression is that this is the most legit spa I've seen in Chinatown so far. Even their business card says "accept insurance" on it so someone there must have a RMT license and adhere to the rules enough to keep their license. The other thing that gave me a more elevated impression about Blue Sky is that they have some expensive looking gear in there. Not that I know what it's for but it looks impressive. Now that I've tried reflexology, I'm hooked on that and find it relaxing and a great way to get in the mood for a massage. It helps to be in the right mood for a massage to be effective. If it takes a half hour into the massage to get that way, then that's less time for the massage to do the most good. I had a smartly-dressed more mature woman named Lucy take care of me, and she told me to try and sleep or relax with the reflexology and turned the lights right down to pretty dark which was great and worked a treat. Since they tend to massage up your calves it's almost a good idea to take your pants off, or wear light sweatpants so they aren't fighting their way down during the reflexology. Next the massage and her technique was quite impressive. She wasn't a large person but amazingly strong and could boss my body around without a problem. I appreciated how she could grab a leg or other part and shake it like you sometimes want to shake sense into someone (but can't) and in this case my body needed some sense shaken into it, so wow I'll be considering Lucy as my go-to for the best value in Chinatown massage done right! I didn't see it on the sign in the room, but at the desk they listed a 90-min massage as an option, which would be awesome especially coupled with another 30-min of reflexology beforehand. Recommended!
