My girlfriend and I wanted to get a massage and she found this place near her house. We made our appointment over the phone and requested to be in the same room. They were able to take us the next day at the time slot we wanted. My first impression of the place was okay. The lady at the front was nice and the bathroom was clean. She showed us to our room and gave us ample time to get ready. The one thing that set me off was that she told me to switch beds with my friend because the bed I was going to was apparently smaller and is for "skinny" people. Umm.. okay. Good thing she gave a good massage. I really liked the calming music they played and that there was a warming pad underneath my body so I wouldn't get cold when one area was exposed. A few minutes into the massage, the ladies told us that we were really tight in our upper bodies and recommended that we do a deeper massage that focuses mainly on back and shoulders for 45 mins of the hour. They also said that we would be getting hot stones but never gave us a price for the service. So we agreed to the deep tissue massage and they did the 45 mins on our upper bodies. I couldn't really relax because the girl working on my friend kept saying she was tight everywhere she put her hands. My girl was great and worked out the knots in my right shoulder really well. She even asked me if it was okay to move on or if I wanted her to keep massaging the same area. The only part that bothered me was the left side of my neck when she put too much pressure and now, 2 days later, I am bruised. The right side where I was really sore and tight feels so much better after she worked on it for almost half an hour. At the end of the massage, they asked if we wanted and extra 30 mins but we declined. When we went to pay our total ended up being $60. This is the first Asian massage place that I have been to that didn't include hot stones. From the past reviews, it seemed like everyone else paid $40 for their full body massages with hot stones. But I guess if you want more upper body time, it's $20 more? I know $60 isn't bad for an hour massage but I feel like it would have been better to pay upfront for whatever service we wanted instead of them trying to upsell us while in the room. TL;DR - She pressured me into a higher-priced service, took a phone call in the middle of the massage, and then asked for a bigger tip! ...... Got a massage yesterday, I think with Minnie (based on other reviews), but she didn't actually introduce herself. It's a no-frills kind of place. No heated tables, unscented lotion. I was okay with all that though, because it's supposedly only $40 for an hour. Well, after the massage begins, Minnie says I'm very tight and that I should upgrade to some special massage that focuses more on the back. I declined. I said the basic $40 service was fine. A few minutes later, however (this is all DURING the service), she brings it up again, saying that I really need the "extra 20 minutes" on my back. I said ok, fine. I wasn't totally clear if I was paying for an extra 20 minutes of massage time, or if she was just going to spend more of the 60 minutes on my back. But she was so insistent, I agreed. The massage itself was actually quite good. Deep pressure. No complaints about technique. But then in the middle of it she suddenly stops to step out and take a phone call! Even worse, she left the door open a good eight inches. While I'm naked on the table, my a$$ totally exposed. A while later she leaves again to go get some hot stones, which I didn't request. But I guess that's part of this "special" service. So the massage ends, and I look at the clock. One hour. She talked me into a 50% more expensive service that didn't include any extra time. I was fairly annoyed, so when I paid I left only $5 on the (now) $60 service. "Only five dollars?!" she says. "For an hour, most people leave ten." YOU GUYS. She looked at the receipt, then back at me. And asked for a BIGGER tip. I have never had that happen before in my life. For any service, anywhere. But from the other reviews, I see it's fairly standard practice here. At least with this woman. I left feeling awkward and embarrassed, not relaxed. read more

Like HOW does she know my finances enough to get upset that I didn't get a pricier massage?!?! lucky I'm there in the first place! when I declined the "better" massage she straight out told me "you're wasting your time"!!!!!!!!!! and I could go without a masseuse adjusting my underwear and not covering me with the sheet properly, it is very uncomfortable. she's lucky I tipped her! but of course she wasn't even happy with the tip I left, She didn't even say "bye" or a simple "thank you"! read more

As a marine veteran who lives with degenerative disk disorder, I have had many massages before but none so far has compared to this place. The massage technician was excellent about asking if the pressure was ok and worked out the knots that were in my back easily. The entire place was very comfortable and very clean, the staff was among the most friendly and courteous I've ever had the pleasure to meet. I recommend Minnie because she is so awesome with her massage techniques and very professional. The price was just perfect $40 for 1 hour massage. If you're new to massages or have issues with certain areas of your body being touched, this may not be a good place for you. Thanks goodness I'm ok with being fondled by an older Asian woman because my masseuse spent quite a bit of time on my butt cheeks. I've had plenty of Chinese massages but geez, this was a tad bit much. Overall, the massage wasn't bad. I had a lot of tension in my shoulders for a few days and felt pretty good after my massage. I didn't have as good of an experience as other yelpers but the masseuse was probably exhausted by time I arrived at 8pm on a Friday night. Good massage, great price! I got a coupon out of the 'get 1 free' magazine but I don't think it was a true coupon. I think they were the regular prices. Anyhow, it was still a good deal! I got a 90 minute massage for $60. Cindy was my masseur and she was very nice. I felt very comfortable and I found her very professional. There was at one point a customer who walked into the shop and I think because they were low on staff Cindy had to go out and help her. She was gone for no more than two minutes and resumed my massage. The only reason I wouldn't give this 5 stars is because I don't think it's a high end spa. I have had many massages in my time and I am over the moon about this new little massage gem that has sprouted up in Poway! I called around 150 in the afternoon to make an appointment after a hardcare weekend of yoga at the Yoga Journal Conference and to my surprise they could take me right away! I live about 6 minutes away so by 2:05 I was being transported to LA LA LAND where all my muscles began to relax. Before, i have horrible back problems. But now is way better because i come here several times a month. It really fix my back problems.Sometimes come here with my family or friends. Even though they can speak english but sometimes is really hard to understand. However, that happened to me before when i went to Japan and i can even said a word. Everytime i come home here i always gives them $20 tips or more because they really works really hard and they help me fix my lower back problems. Since i was little my mom told me that to treat others the way that you want to be treated. I know that they have to give up their times and use their HAND to massage. Sometimes i help my husband massage for 10min i'm already tired. I really thankful that they give up their time on me. Every time i go to this place I feel so relaxed and the place is really clean. I've been looking for a massage place that's not too pricey but possibly could get a good massage experience, then I saw this place here on Yelp. First, I read the reviews then finally gave it a try and came here with my friend. When we got in, I found the ambience is casual, relaxing and quiet, which I like. Me and my friend decided to get the 90 minute full-body massage (my birthday gift for her). :) Total experience was good. I almost fell asleep during my massage. My friend told me her massage was good too, but there's one thing she didn't like, her masseuse just massaged her face without asking her if she wants it done or not, which in this case, she doesn't. My masseuse did ask me too but I told her not to, and she granted my request. I didn't regret trying this place out and with no doubt, I'll definitely come back here again. :) read more

My daughter and I finally had a chance to get a massage. My massage went nicely. However, my daughter's massage therapist kept answering her cell phone (at least 4 times). While she was on the phone, she would lightly rub with the other hand. She had requested a deep tissue massage. The ladies there were great , although they aren't really fluently in English but they were so friendly, kind, and funny which made me felt really comfortable and I love talking to them. Great price for a great massage. These folks accomodated us even though we were 25 minutes late, and didn't shorten the 1 hour massage time either. They take drop-ins, and the special (which was just given to us, didn't specifically ask for it) was $40 for a one hour massage. It's a heck of a deal. The employees are Chinese and they work you proper Chinese style. Both our masseuses were very professional and offered customized service, focusing on tension areas, asking for feedback about pressure or certain concerns. We both also had some hot stone massage incorporated, which I thought for sure would be an extra cost but was not, which I found to be a great part of the experience. The surroundings are clean and new, and I was very comfortable throughout my experience despite being long overdue for a massage and a bit sensitive. I will be sure to come back on my next trip to San Diego. And bonus, they have a massage card, where you get one free after 10 visits :) read more

Got the older heavy set male as my masseuse... should've followed my instincts and asked to switch after having to repeatedly tell him I like my massages with deep pressure except I think the language barrier probably applies to everyone there ... i think he interpreted harder with pressing with his thumbs which ends up just bruising instead... on top of that, he needs to cut them nails!!! Got scratched all throughout the massage... I would like to give them the benefit of the doubt and try a female masseuse, but based on prior negative reviews, using the thumbs to massage seems to be their style so rather not waste my money or time read more

I went in without an appointment and was taken to a private room, the temperature was perfect, the bed was comfortable to the point I thought I was just going to sleep through the whole thing. I was asked what level of pressure, I told her medium and the next 60 minutes was one of the best massages I had in a long time. I did catch myself snoring once or twice but managed to keep it together for the remainder of time. I also got the foot massage, not sure why I did since I am so ticklish, but she quickly realized that and adjusted so I wasn't flopping around laughing. Looking forward to my next visit. read more

I came across this parlor after another one cancelled on me at the last minute. So glad I went. I called at 12 for an appt at 3:30. When I got there I was taken straight to the room. The guy I had (didn't catch his name) and older gentlemen came in fast and started right in. He got all of the knots and kinks out and even used hot stones. $40 bucks for an hour full body massage, I say heck yeah! I felt a little more felt up than other places I've been too but, I'm not shy so if you are just know that's how they are there. I didn't get harassed about the tip or any of that but, I'm a waitress so I tip well. All in all I will definitely be going back! read more

Great massage at a great price! This is my go-to place for relieving the back and shoulder knots brought on by having a desk job. Yvonne is awesome at finding each and every knot, and then removing them. I like lots of pressure, and it amazes me that she can provide as much as she does. She's also great at knowing all the pressure spots that may not have knots, but they still release the day's/week's stress. I have been seeing Minnie for about 6 years now, I don't know why it's just occurring to me now to write a review. At one point for about 6 months I was getting a massage every week and it was the best I'd ever felt physically in my life. I absolutely love her. She finds my trouble spots and focuses on them until they're as gone as possible in the time we have. She has a really wonderful touch and is great at adjusting the pressure as I need her to. The prices are surprisingly low, so I always like to leave a big fat tip. She deserves it and judging by the rest of these reviews, so does everyone who works there. The atmosphere is really relaxing and lush, I love how dark and mellow it is and it still retains personality and has an "at home" sort of feel. I just got home from a 90 minute massage because I woke up in so much pain this morning and I feel 100% better. (Bonus: Massage Lux is located right near Greens Please, one of the few vegan places round these parts. A massage and a refreshing smoothie and a cup of soup make for a really lovely afternoon.) Hubby was held up in AT&T so I wandered over to this place after seeing $25 foot massage in the window. I was immediately taken to a dim lit room with a big comfortable chair. The furnishings are all quality and the atmosphere is very zen with mild soundscape like music playing quietly. A very nice and quiet gentleman handled my massage. I must admit I was surprised (pleasantly) that a foot massage was not just that.... He started at my temples and proceeded to my scalp and then neck & shoulders and each arm and hand and then began massaging my feet and lower legs for a good amount of time. The pressure was perfect and I almost drifted off to sleep! I think this was honestly the best $25 spent in a long time and I will be back for sure. read more

Just had my first massage here though I have lived in Poway for many years. The experience I had was excellent and the masseuse, Cindy, was terrific. She was able to locate and work on some problem areas that have been causing chronic headache issues for me for a long time, as well as provide a relaxing and Thoroughly Professional, whole body massage. I'll definitely be going back on a regular basis now and will always request Cindy (she's got a great personality, too!!). Last night after my massage I was all relaxed and happy until I needed to pay. I paid with my credit card and then noticed the sign saying tips needed to be cash only...so I handed the masseuse every last dollar in my purse which equated to a 15% tip. Her response went something like this (not kidding) "That's ALL? You should give me a much bigger tip. Here, take the cash back and give me a bigger tip on your credit card. I want a lot more. Most people tip me $20-$50." Mind you, the massage was $40. I was shocked. I would have given them 5 stars if this review was based on the quality of the massage. But the seedy atmosphere took it down 4 stars. And the comments on the tip took it down to 1 star. I thought it was very rude and ungrateful. The great massage experience was completely ruined at check out. And now that I'm reading the other reviews here, I'm seeing that this practice of demanding a higher tip is something they seem to do regularly because it's happened to other reviewers as well!! You know what really sucks? This place... I went here before, and had a great experience. I came back, and the last two times my experience has gotten progressively worse. SO, yeah, I get it, I book my appointments for 8pm and they close at 9pm. But that does not mean you should freaking rush through the entire massage. I felt like i was slapped around most of the time. I told the lady I liked deep pressure when she asked what I preferred. It felt like she took one dinky finger and was jabbing it into my back. Then she did some weird pushing motion at my hips. I didn't pay money to have someone just shove me back and forth on a table. The whole time I remained polite. She on the other hand, kept bringing up how she has to eat dinner late because of her job massaging people. How sometimes her other clients are SOOO nice because they tell her to go eat before taking the appointments. And then how some clients show up late and screw up her whole entire day and she doesn't get to leave early. Are you for serious lady?? WTF? Then she asks me why it took me a whole 30 minutes from the time I called until I arrived. I explained to her I have kids, and they get upset when I leave the house as soon as I put them to bed. Then I realized, why the eff do I have to explain myself to her? I still got there by 8pm... But you know what SEALED the deal for me not ever coming back??? When I got out of the room and she goes "my boss already left! I'm the last one here!" Keep in mind, by then it was 9:08, then I go to give her tip of $6 bucks. That's right people, $6 buckaroos because I hated my massage and she looks at it and says "that's it? you're supposed to give me AT LEAST $10 dollars. It's hard work doing this you know?!" ....... you've got to be kidding me...how tacky is that to demand MORE tip after you've done a shit ass job, and also made sure to be super passive aggressive the whole entire massage? Yeah, no thanks. not coming back at all. Other factors from my previous visits leading to 1 star: 1) people come here to relax, don't shout and yell at each other outside the rooms 2) the tables are really wobbly and creek a lot. also, the face rest needs to be repaired. my forehead kept getting pushed into hard metal instead of the cushion. 3) the hot towels smelled really bad there are so many other massage places...go anywhere but here. read more

Wow, I have never been treated so rudely, more than once! The low prices and availability attracted me so I tried them out. The massages are always nice, and they are happy to change the pressure to your preference, but they always use way too much oil. Then comes the time to pay, and I tipped $5 because that was the only cash I had in my wallet at the time, but for the price that is almost a 15% tip.
