I came in here to take advantage of the gift card I had received from S. Anchorage Dental Center a couple of days ago for being a new client. After a rough stretch the last several weeks between work and school, I needed to relieve the tension and stress of keeping up with the daily grind. This place is located in a small shopping center in front of the Wal-Mart off of Old Seward behind the Dimond Center Tower. They have a parking lot separate from Wal-Mart which is a plus considering how hectic the parking lot of Wal-Mart is throughout the day. I came in and was warmly greeted by a few employees behind the counter. I explained to them that I had a gift card to redeem for a massage. I was able to save $60.00 for a one-hour massage using the gift card. What an awesome deal in return for being a new dental client. The gift card of course doesn't include gratuity. The masseuse did a great job relieving the knots in my neck, shoulders, and lower back so I gave a $12.00 tip which is 20% of the $59.99 bill. They offered me a monthly membership at $69.99 per month, but in all honesty, this is one of those things to treat yourself once in a while while keeping an eye on your budget. For anyone interested, their massage deals go from $59.99 1-hour, $89.99 1 1/2-hours, and $119.99 2-hours for new clients. Types of massages include Trigger Point Therapy (massage that relieves tight areas within muscle tissue that causes chronic pain in other areas of the body), Swedish Massage (the best for relaxation and improving circulation in the body), Deep Tissue (releases muscle tension and provides deep pain relief from chronic overuse related to physical work), Sports Massage (improves flexibility and endurance, reduces recovery time after a workout at the gym, and is a necessity for anyone on a training regimen), and Cranial Sacral Therapy (my choice for relieving muscle tension, back and neck pain, and effective in alleviating headaches). Add-ons for enhanced sessions can be added with any massage starting at $10.00. This includes Aroma Therapy (oils extracted from herbs, flowers, or fruits), Deep Muscle Therapy (warming or cooling thermal treatments to provide deep muscle pain relief, decrease inflammation, and improve circulation), and Hot Stone Envy (the use of smooth, water-heated stones on the body to allow deeper relaxation of the muscles). EDIT: Last weekend we had our Saturday appointment cancelled the day before, and now my appointment for today has been cancelled. We had tried SO HARD to finish our credits up and be done with them this month so we could cancel, but now we have no choice but to reschedule and be stuck in this another month or lose those credits we ALREADY PAID FOR! I told the manager my frustrations of this and she just said there's nothing they can do. It's laughable that the automated response my original review got is basically 'tell the local management'. Well, I did. See where it got me? The massage therapists have been great and I have nothing but amazing things to say about them. They're always super professional no matter who we've used. The business itself, however, has been frustrating enough that we can't wait to cancel our monthly membership and stop going. My boyfriend has a monthly account that accumulated over the pandemic because if you cancel your account you lose the credits, and even if you put it on hold you're charged a fee for doing so. Scheduling is a major hassle- you have to schedule at least a month out. They don't start scheduling for the next month on a specific date, it's random when they do open it up, so you just have to constantly call and see when they do so you can finally get in. We've had a handful of last minute cancellations, which I get happens, but then you may not get in again for over a month. The points accumulating cycle is endless. Good luck getting through on the phones. Even when I call and leave messages requesting a call back it rarely happens. They're always busy, yet they told us they are no longer going to be open Saturdays (they're always closed Sundays) and getting an appointment after working hours is hard! So you better be prepared to take time off to go in if you work M-F hours. Maybe consider this place for a one-off appointment, but stay away from the monthly membership unless you plan to only go sparingly. read more

Never any openings!!! I've been a massage envy member since 2010. I signed up in Vernon hills while I was in A school for the military. I then moved away. I'm now currently living in Wasilla Alaska that has no massage envy & the nearest one is an hour away in Anchorage & never has any openings. I tried cancelling asking for a full refund on my accrued massages since this is no fault of my own that there is no massage envy nearby etc. This location refused to give me a refund, then when I was too busy to argue with them they just cancelled my account having me lose over $2000 in massages!!!! I never signed a cancellation form!!!! Then I finally reached back out & they said they could reinstate it giving me my massages back plus a month of no charges to suspend my account. I said that does me no good since I cannot use the massage envy in anchorage since there's never openings & it being an hour away. I can't justify a 2 hour drive just for an hour massage! I kept asking them to talk to corporate & no one still to this day has gotten back to me!! I brought this up to them almost A YEAR AGO!!!! read more

My first time here and first time trying out an chain massage place. Walking in I noticed the place was a lot bigger than expected. The ladies at the front desk checked me in and brought me into a waiting room. A lady gave me a iPad and really rushed me through everything. She DID NOT let me read the contract and scrolled down to the bottom and told me to sign. Like seriously? You ask guest to arrive 15 mins early to fill out forms and don't even let them read what they are signing?!? I was hesitate to sign it without reading it, but finally ended signing it since she wouldn't let me have my massage with out it. I was a little frustrated at this point and almost wanted to leave. My massage lady called me in and asked me about trouble areas. She was actually very good. I asked to put more pressure on my trouble areas and she actually listen! (very rare). She spent a good amount of time on my trouble areas, but she also delegated a good amount to other parts of my body as well. All in all, I felt that the massage therapist deserved 5/5 rating. The reason for my low rating was because of the front staff. When I first walked in, they didn't even greet me. They just gave me a nasty look. When I greeted them, they just rudely asked me my name and looked up my appointment time. And of course, the whole not letting me read the contract was frustrating. And when I was checking out, they just kinda threw the receipt at me and asked me if I wanted the membership (WHICH they weren't able to explain what the membership entailed). So how can I explain this? It's like a sandwich with moldy bread... entering and exiting experience were horrible, but the middle was great! Overall recommendation. 5 stars for Christy! I actually thought twice about posting her name, because I don't want her to be more booked than she already is, but this woman deserves it. Christy is a pro and she has some powerful hands for being so tiny. I've had hit or miss expériences with other masseuses here, but she always delivers. I've been getting massages for over 20 years and she is the best I've ever had. My job entails frequent bending and heavy lifting and I also have scoliosis. I just called Massage Envy South. They are fully booked for massage for the next month, they only offer appointments Monday through Friday, with the last booking by about 3 pm. This leaves me out because I work 9-5, but beyond that the staff who answered the phone was so rude. When I asked a question she heaved a huge sigh and then answered me in a clipped, impatient voice. She was awful. It makes me not want to even walk through their doors. read more

Dear ME, I have been a patron of your South Anchorage location in Alaska for the past 5+ years. Recently, this location has been severely understaffed to the point where I could not schedule a monthly appointment. I asked to have my membership canceled 2 months ago due to the shortage of staff. The caller said they would cancel my membership and left if at that. Today, I received a call for two missed payments. I told the rep I had requested to cancel my membership 2 months ago and was under the impression it had been taken care. Now I am being asked to bring my account current by paying the last 2 months in order to cancel my membership. A previous staff member mentioned they are all underpaid and because of that are experiencing heavy turnover. I just want to be done with this establishment but do not feel I should be obligated to pay for cancellation. I already have a backlog of 7 possibly more visits that I could not schedule due to staffing issues. read more

I came in recently, eager for a massage treat that a friend gifted me and came in a few minutes before my appointment. Long story short is I didn't get a massage, so bare with me while I explain why. New customers have to fill out 3 pages of forms regarding massage/facial desires and needs, medical issues, and liability waiver forms. I get through it all and get to the consent form and read what liabilities are being waived. The first couple have to do with issues regarding problems exacerbated by not telling the therapist of injury to lying on the medical questionnaire. Okay, sounds reasonable. Liability waiver #3: any injury that occurs on premises. What does that mean? Does that mean anything beyond my control and within the company's control? It means if I'm inside and I slip on water and fall on the floor and hurt myself(I'm thinking fall/winter rain/snow tracked in) the company is not at fault for inadequately providing safe walking surfaces. Statistically I know the odds that the ceiling will fall on my head are low, but it's the principle of the point. I spoke with the very nice receptionists regarding #3 and was given very little information on the whys or specifics other than it's a new policy change. I decided to cancel my appointment. Yes, yes, I would rather forgo a free massage than accept a business practice that appears shadier than Eminem. I could have gotten more information on it from a manager/owner, but I wasn't interested. I'm sure this addition to the waiver is because something happened on the premises that the company became liable for, but that's what business insurance in for. If I am wrong, please enlighten me and I will change the rating. read more

Paulina was one of the best therapists I have had as a 7-year member of Massage Envy. The facility and staff was top notch too.

My fiance had purchased a massage for myself, my mom and my niece for my bday. An employee had called me at the end of January and ruined my surprise and they knew it was for my bday. They had told us one price over the phone and when we went there, we were charged more than the quoted price over the phone. They also took $75. out of her $90. gift card for an emergency cancellation fee which is outrageous. So with that being said, they will no longer be receiving our business anymore. read more

Been getting massage therapy for over 35 years. My normal therapist is out of the country for a month. So I booked 90 minute massage with Massage Envy in south Anchorage & the booking process was like pulling teeth. Receptionist either couldn't hear or was distracted. It got to the point where I called back 2 days later to speak with someone else to confirm my appointment. In which I was informed to arrive 15 mins early for paperwork. Today I arrive @ 3:45pm to do paperwork. Massage started at 4:00pm as scheduled. Massage ends at 5:07pm which I don't realize til the therapist leaves the room & I set up on the table and see the clock on the wall. On well, must be only an hour massage. I get dressed and go to the restroom, wash oil off my face, hands & arms & use the restroom. I arrive at front desk at 5:17pm. Little girl says "$90 plz" & I state that I didn't realize that a 60 minute massage was so expensive. She explains that I had a 90 minute massage. I explained the time frame (as mentioned above) and that it only lasted 67 minutes & she informs me that "our 90 minute massages are only 80 minutes". I told her fine, but again, my "90 minute massage" was only 67 minutes. Ultimately she could not perform common math. So for the extra $30 Massage Envy stole from me has cost them potentially thousands of dollars. read more

I am generally not a fan of any national chains but this place made me rethink that position at least for a day... the front desk person was professional and personable. They made me feel very welcome. That being said my massage was the best I have ever had. Mel was amazing and really did achieve a therapeutic impact on my body. I gave this location one star because there isn't an option for zero stars. My advice, don't be late, show up on time but at wrong location (not familiar with the Anchorage store locations). I showed up on time at the wrong store and then was told where my appointment was. I called while on my way and I was advised that I would be charged for the entire hour no matter how long it took to get across Anchorage. I was clearly going to be over 20 minutes behind. I offered to reschedule and she said that is fine, but I would still be charged for the entire missed appointment. I told her I would come down anyway then and she ACTIVELY tried to discourage me by declaring that prep would take too long and I would be wasting my time. I showed up and pleb my case to no avail. Got a mediocre 30 minute massage. Spoke to the franchise manager and she was not willing to make things right AT ALL. I am a loyal customer at my ho.e store, but I warn all who aren't from Anchorage to beware. These stores WILL actively try to rip you off. I enjoyed the lady who did my massage. She was amazing. However the administrative staff is not so good. They literally told me it would cost $60 over the phone so I agreed to come in, then after the massage I came out and they told me it was $100. I then had a conversation with the administrative staff and said these exact words, "So I was misquoted?" They agreed, but offered no apology or solution. This was a terrible decision. If you quote someone over the phone wrong and the customer comes in based off that quote and you openly admit to making the mistake, however without an apology, you do what any one should do-charge them what you quoted. I paid the amount but was completely frustrated and honestly felt bad for the staff that have been trained so poorly. read more

I found this place just driving past on old Seward going home; I had been wanting a massage for a while due to neck and upper back pain, so I decided to call and make an appointment. I show up that next day for a 5pm massage. Nice environment, nice staff. But let's get started... So the "intro" price is $60. On the signs posted outside it says "1 hour massage for $59.99" and then in much smaller print it says introductory price. A little misleading if you ask me. Turns out after the first massage you have to either get a membership which is like 70something bucks a month, which gives you only 1 free massage, then you have to pay the $60 for any massage after that. (Come on, that is ridiculous.) if you don't have a membership is over a hundred bucks a pop!! There are plenty of great places in town that are half as cheap with just as quality services. So, as I'm sitting to wait for my massage a "lifestyle advisor" or some shit comes and talks to me about my job and whatever else. I'm not here to talk about my job, I'm here to get a massage. At this point it's past the start of my massage time. She then tries to offer me "aromatherapy" for an extra 10 bucks. Let me tell you this "aromatherapy" is basically they add a few drops of essential oil to the lotion they use on your body. You've gotta be kidding me if you think I'm going to pay $10 for a few drops of liquid. I have my own bottles of essential oils at home, some of which you can get an entire bottle for around $10. BITCH PLEASE. So then I go and wait by myself in this waiting room, which is actually a really nice, relaxing atmosphere. I wait for close to 10 minutes. Then someone walks in, staring at her clipboard, barely introduces herself or greets me or even looks me in the eye, and tells me which room to go to. When I get to the room she spends a solid 5 minutes talking about why I'm there, which is exactly what I just took the time to explain to the chick up front, kind of like when you're at the doctors and you explain everything to the nurse, and then when the doctor comes in you have to explain literally everything again. Then she talks to me about my sleeping positions. I understand it's relevant to neck and back pain, but come on I am paying for a massage not life advice or sleep position advice. Just chipping away at my "1 HOUR MASSAGE" time. She possibly could have discussed those things while working on my back. She finally leaves and I get undressed. The massage I'm not going to lie was amazing. She used deep pressure which is what I asked for and worked out some knots. I asked for her to work on my upper back and neck areas. However, she rubbed over my neck like twice after doing my back, and then rubbed lotion over my arms (didn't ask for anything to do with my arms) then told me to meet her up front. I stand up to get dressed and check my phone, the time is 5:54. Where are my other 6 minutes?? Like damn my massage time was probably a total of 40-45 minutes. The massage time that I did get was great and she did a fantastic job on my upper back. The rest of my experience there made me feel like all they were trying to do was rip me off. Needless to say I will not be returning; the entire places just screams "we want to rip you off." Found another gal in town who does FULL hour massages for $50 an hour and she's great with no bullshit :) read more

In town from Oregon to visit family and the flight left me with a stiff neck and sore back. As a big believer in massage, I googled for nearby massage places and Massage Envy came up. There weren't many reviews but what I saw were good, so I called and made an appointment. I was not disappointed! The reception area, relaxing room, and massage room were all lovely and clean. My LMT, Jessie, did an amazing job, using techniques that were new to me, and gifted with the ability to use either firm or soft pressure as I wanted it. My only two regrets are that I didn't schedule a longer massage and that I live too far away to come in on a regular basis! read more
