She used some very intense pressure to work that out, to the point where I was groaning so much we both started laughing. Would definitely recommend her - she does pediatric and geriatric massage as well. FACILITY REVIEW - The morning I visited there was the very strong odor of sewer gas. The spa was also filthy. I have been a member of Massage Envy for 10 years, and can't believe the demise of this location. The actual massage therapists and estheticians continue to be amazing, but unfortunately the front desk staff, starting with Sarah the "so called" Manager is among the worst I have ever encountered. Ms. Sara bobs, weaves and runs from accountability better than LeBron James!! I have received the run around every time I have called! It's simple: I returned a $140.29 facial product 3 weeks ago and I am still waiting to see the credit to my credit card. I have never experienced such incompetency from a group of "Professionals". Today Casey, if that's his real name, suggested I file a fraud complaint with my credit card company! Customer No Service at its finest I should say. Terrible service and poor management. I have been a long-time customer of Massage Envy, I have finally reached a breaking point over these past few weeks. Over the years, I have consistently experienced several cancellations, but I have always been very flexible in getting things rescheduled. Due to the difficulty in scheduling, I have accumulated several credits over the past few months. The past three weeks have been horribly frustrating. I had a massage scheduled on a Friday and checked in at my normal time, waiting in the lobby until 10 minutes past my appointment. When I returned to the front desk, they did not know the where the massage therapist was and had failed to inform me that they could not locate the therapist. Naturally, I was very upset but agreed to reschedule for the following week. The following week arrived, and approximately 30 minutes before my scheduled massage, I received a call informing me that the therapist was no longer available. Again, I was furious, as I desperately need to use my accumulated credits. I requested a call from the manager, Sarah, but never received one. I finally went into the office to complain about my experience to Sarah. She assured me that I could use my credits and was apologetic about the miscommunication. Again, I agreed to try again this time with a different therapist she recommended. She scheduled me with another massage therapist for the following Monday. On Monday, I showed up, checked in at my assigned time, and waited in the lobby. Again, 10 minutes later, no massage therapist appeared. I went to the front desk, and once more, they did not know where the massage therapist was. This being the third time in a row in only 10 days, I could no longer tolerate the situation at this location and immediately requested to cancel my membership. I was informed that there are no refunds on my credits, meaning I cannot even use the credits they have given me because I am unable to schedule these massages. This location has been horrible. I again asked for the manager Sarah to call me. I received a call later stating that the Sarah was too sick to speak to me that day. This is yet another example of horrible management. I still have not heard for the manager. I cannot adequately express my frustration with this location, and I cannot strongly enough warn people against signing up for a membership here. Totally absurd 'lock-you-in' sales tactics, limited ability to actually use purchased services, needs investigation. Purchased a one-year service subscription as a gift with recurring monthly billing, the giftee wasn't able to even book massages or facials in the first two months (and $150 of pre-booked services later) due to integration and paperwork issues on their end. The app didn't work and so reservations needed to be done in person or over the phone. Not happy with the service and wanting to cancel, I was surprised to learn that once the term is up Massage Envy will continue billing your card if you don't cancel within 15 days (and not before) of the last month's billing date and only via SIGNED IN WRITING. You cannot simply call and request a cancellation, and you cannot cancel until the term is up, and if you don't remember to do that within 15 days you get billed again. I've called and emailed this 'clinic' TWICE requesting the necessary paperwork for me to sign and return in order to cancel. They intentionally make this impossible. At this point and with this evidence, it's time to get AMEX involved, I'm done. Ain't nobody got time for this scam. read more

I just had by far and away the worst massage I've ever received from a man named Alex. I've had an account at massage envy for over 7 years and cancelled today because of how terrible this experience was and how it was handled by the front desk staff. I booked a deep tissue massage. The massage felt like a 15-year-old boy rubbing sun block on me for 45 mins. I asked if there was a reason he wasn't massaging my lower back as that was the problem area I asked him to focus on. He didn't respond. I told he him could use deeper pressure as it felt very Swedish and he responded that "he didn't know what else to do." He then asked if I wanted to end the massage. I told him no but to please use deeper pressure and massage my lower back. He didn't once touch my lower back. He ended the massage 15 minutes before the hour was over and I was half way home before the massage was supposed to have ended. This is the worst experience I've ever had at a massage clinic. Do not come here, choose a different massage clinic and save yourself the money and never book with Alex. Absolute waste of an hour of my life. i signed up for deep tissue because i was told there were good providers at the location on slaughter, in circle c, austin texas 78739. i went 3 times and only one massage would qualify as "deep tissue." this therapist said was was being overworked, while hurt and was only present for the first massage. the other 2 massages were not deep. i tried to quit both on the phone and in person, they don't stop charging the $65 monthly fees until the whole contract is expired...12 months. they make it almost impossible to let you cancel the contract. circle c massage invy does not provide deep tissue body work, eventhough they say they do. massage envy and was a complete waste my money ($800) and i still have to remember when to cancel before they start charging other monthly fees after termination of the contract. read more

The person who checked me in apparently didn't do it correctly and after waiting 10 mins past my apt I go to the front desk so where I asked about an update and apparently they didn't realize I was sitting in the waiting room. I was shorted 10 mins from my 90 mins due to this. So I paid for my service and tipped and now have a 75 dollar additional charge. I called and spoke with MJ on sat and he advised he would speak to the manager about the 75 dollar charge and he would return my call yesterday. I did not hear anything and now have the 75 dollar charge cleared on my card in addition to my payment and tip. I completed the survey and emailed with someone from the store and they advised me on Tuesday 5/28 that they would refund this charge. I have mixed feelings about this place. The massage therapists and aestheticians are great, but they frequently cancel your service the day of. In the last 6 months they've cancelled on me 3 times the morning of the service. Twice I was already driving there when they called. It's so disappointing when you are looking forward to a morning of self care and then it's cancelled with no notice. Their reschedule offers are usually for a few days later, nothing available that day. Came in today for a facial with Shania and it was wonderful. She was great at talking skincare during the process and asked a lot of questions about my routine to customize the facial for me. She was great at conversation but also could tell when I was quiet and enjoying the massage that I just wanted quiet. She was very kind about me not wanting any add ons but as we discussed my routine and problem areas was able to make a great suggestion to add to my skincare routine. I can't wait to come back. Take your money to a practice with compassion. I tried to gift 3 of my massage credits to a family supporting their mother through chemotherapy. They are sleeping at a hospital each night and I thought it would help for them to receive a massage to help relieve that stress. They refuse to transfer more than 1 a month alluding vaguely to their practice policy. My local massage envy location was willing to make an exception, they just needed manager approval. I have been a member for more than 10 years - it became impossible to get in for a massage so I started using their facialists. That was great, until Covid and the turnover was awful. This summer they finally found one who stuck, and all was well. I've been visiting monthly no problems. I understand they have a same day cancelation policy - but what happens if you wake up with fever/vomiting the morning of your appointment? I feel we customers who've stuck with ME through the lawsuits and Covid and have been consistently supporting the business deserve to be listened to - I will be cancelling my membership. Great experience here! First, the man behind the front desk who checked me in was so helpful. I had forgotten my phone that had my gift card email on it, so first he looked it up in several different ways, and when he couldn't find it, he let me use his computer to log into my email and download it. That was above and beyond, and so helpful so I didn't have to run home and risk being late for my appointment! Then, my massage with Leticia was one of the best massages I've ever had. I asked for firm pressure and for her to focus on certain areas, and she did exactly what I asked! AND she didn't talk during the session, which allowed me just to relax. My bridesmaids gave me a gift certificate for a one-hour massage. I went three days before my wedding, and needless to say, I was completely frazzled. The massage itself was great, but afterward I was talked into entering their membership program by one of the front desk girls. I was told that it was $49 a month and each month you got one massage to use. If you didn't use it, it would rollover to the next month and so on. They said it could be canceled and I could share massages with my husband or friends. None of this is true. I will admit a small amount of fault in this as it says at the bottom of the contract that massages are non-transferrable and the contract can't be canceled, HOWEVER, I was clearly in a hurry at the time I purchased the membership and feel like I was taken advantage of. Jump forward four months. I have accrued four massages and due to a busy work schedule have not used any of them. I call to see if I can cancel the contract. The manager told me I could not cancel, but I could share the massages with my husband. I ask if I can bring a friend, she says no, only your spouse can share massages. She then tried to sell me gift certificates for massages for my friends so they could come with me - what the hell! I just recently called to see if I could schedule a massage for myself and my husband, using my SIX accrued massages. Manager tells me no, not unless my husband is a member. Well, gee, she didn't mention that the first time! The manager is also very condescending and is not willing to work with you. Horrible customer service, deceptive sales practices. To me a Deep Tissue Massage should: a) NOT be relaxing, none of that Swedish crap b) HURT, like on the cusp of that "hurt so good" feeling c) most likely leave you SORE the next day d) make you feel better the day of and the days following I was really sad, bent out of shape. No literally. My back was effed up. I had this sciatic nerve, rear issue going on in my right lower back and butt cheek. I couldn't bend down and touch my toes without that weird sharp twinge thing happening in my tush. Daniel, my go to guy at the South Park Meadows location moved back to San Antonio and I was left searching for another Massage Envy masseuse. I was lost....had a few flounce visits with some of the masseuses at other locations, and then I found Sergei. When I first met with Sergei, he asked me what I wanted done, what was bothering me. "My neck, upper and lower back, and my sciatic nerve" "It hurts right here (pointing to my rear) when I try to bend down and touch my toes." Sergei looks at me and in his accent he responds "We can do just those areas or we can do the total body. I do whatever you want". "It says here (pointing to my chart) that you lika the Firm massage?" I ponder for a bit and thinking back to my previous massages I think, I don't want him go easy on me. So I blurt out "Probably a few notches past firm" and "what the heck, let's do total body and if you find any areas that need worked on, go for it". We are in agreement, Sergei leaves so I can undress, and I lie face down hoping for the best. At first I get my back worked on, it seems to be a bit more of the rubby swedish action that I was afraid of and I immediately say "maybe a little more pressure". Well I guess my perception of the pre-rubby stuff was more of a "warm up" for my muscles because not 2 minutes later, I am immediately regretting my "more pressure" request. I mean, whatever this guy was doing, it HURT. It was past that "hurt so good feeling". I think in parts of it, I WASN'T breathing because I was trying so hard NOT to move or twinge. At one point, I think he *maybe* had his foot propped against the wall as leverage while pressing on my lower back/tail bone region. I thought I was a tough cookie. Apparently not in Sergei standards. So I finally give in and say "OK, OK, changed my mind, less pressure". Whew! back to the hurt so good feeling. Don't get me wrong, Sergei was great. He always asked me if the pressure was too much or to little. I was just too much of a pansy the first 20 minutes or so to admit I couldn't take it. Sergei wasn't much of a talker, which was a good thing, but when I asked if he found anything wrong he did say "this is very tight down here. Your hamstrings, the calves, the back, it's all connected". "It's OK we work this out, you will probably be sore tomorrow." "I recommend the epsom salts in warm tub." "Your nerve should be better now, it was stuck". At the end of the session, I left feeling better. Looser and a bit sore, but a good sore. My bangs had gotten matted to my forehead with all the nervous sweat I produced in the first 20 minutes, my Sunday morning church makeup all gunked like racoon eyes, but hey, I felt good and most importantly..I could touch my toes! Sergei definitely delivered "A", "B" and "D", and the next day "C". A new one on my list would be "E": Slight bruising the next day. If you are looking for a good deep tissue, no pansies allowed massage, look for Sergei. He won't disappoint. Just don't clog up his schedule too much, he still needs to make time to fit me in! read more

After an excessively creepy experience with Massage Harmony, I was leery of institutional massage with its cheap intro massage. But I wanted - no, needed - a massage, quickly, cheaply. The ME environment is less institutional than MH and the staff is nicer. Yes, you'll get the membership spiel but not the pressure. And, yes, there are signs suggesting large tips but at least they're not posted on the door you must open to leave the massage room. (BTW, I read a post by an ME employee who said the average tip is $10.) I had Deborah and I recommend her. I was like marble the first half hour, more like putty the second half. A day later, I can still sense the benefit. If you know what to expect (re: the memberships and tips), you can enjoy yourself here. And the membership idea is interesting, especially if you think of massage as another form of self-care as opposed to a luxury. read more

I found it depressing. The people who actually do the massages get paid less than half what they would normally get paid to do a massage at a spa or if they were doing freelance work. Maybe about 30% is more accurate. And it shows. They don't want to be working here, and they are just going through the motions. If you do go here, make sure you tip them well because that is what they depend on to make it worth their time. Better yet, skip this place and find a freelancer you like and stick with them. He was able to work out my knots, but I was sore for a few days after. I suppose that's my fault for not speaking up when he hurt me. My husband loved Erica! He would highly recommend her. I was disappointed to pay for a 90 minute massage and only get massaged for 75 minutes. I didn't know I had to pay to fill out my paperwork. Why are 60 minute massages 60 minutes and come with free paperwork? But I paid for 90, got 75, and had to pay to fill out paperwork for 15 minutes. I recently had a facial at Massage Envy Circle C location. I was extremly disappointed with the whole experience. Upon arrival, I was greeted but the place was so busy. There were about 10-12 people in the waiting room. Usually it is very peaceful when you walk into a spa, but with all the people in there it was very noisy. While I waited I filled out some paperwork about my skin history and any aches that I experience. I don't think that the esthetician paid much attention to that as none of the sholder/neck pain was addressed. I had also said that I would like a deep cleaning with extractions, but she told me I didn't need any. I find that very hard to believe. I've had many facials in the past at other spas, which all included a good neck and sholder massage. The facial at Massage Envy did not include either, very disappointing. In the end I just felt like I paid someone a lot of money to wash my face and put moisturizer on it. When it came time to check out, I was charged the intro price of $49, but then they tacked on another $10 for some product that they used, I couldn't even tell you what it was. If I wanted to go back for the same facial, regular price would be over $110. I would have been extremely pissed off if I had paid that much money for the facial that I received. Needless to say I will not be returning to this place, I've had better facials at other spas in Austin that are the same price and longer. read more

After driving 1500+ miles while relocating across the country, my shoulders had petrified. Luckily, just up the road in Circle C was Massage Envy. I'd never had a massage at a chain--just at nicer spas, so I honestly wasn't expecting that much. The location was very clean, very inviting, and calming. They put me with Emily, who was absolutely amazing. She seemed to know exactly where to touch to release the muscles. I've had the experience in yoga classes of getting into a stretch that seemed to release emotion as well as muscle tension--this massage was like that. Truly amazing! Whatever they are paying Emily is not nearly enough! She is a miracle worker. Even though I didn't go in to check out their memberships, I left with one. There was no sales pressure at all, but the price is right, and it's a mile from home. The tipping policy is a little aggressive (signs at different places telling you what is customary to tip) I ended up giving $20 bucks on a $39 massage--it was worth EVERY penny!! read more

If you wanna get a bum deal, go to Massage Envy Circle C. I'll NEVER go back there and definitely spread the word about them. On top of that, I tipped $15 which should have been an incentive NOT to screw me out of 20 minutes. Thanks Massage Envy, I'll be going back to Viva Salon & Spa for ALL my massages. The massages are 45 minutes long, NOT one hour! This place is okay. It took me trying about 8 different massage therapists to find one that was really good. That was not fun. Of course, it is like food, everyone has different likes. If you are just starting out getting massages, then I would recommend it. But after you have had really good massages, you might be disappointed. The price is pretty good, but as I stated above, it is not an hour!! This is a big deal because they advertise that their massages are an hour. Not such a great deal when you do the math for a 45 minute massage. The therapists are booked a person every hour so there is no way the massages can be an hour as they need time to change out the room and get people back and forth, changing etc. And yes, the (contract) system is confusing and it is a bit hard to cancel. So make sure you really understand how it works before you sign up. I would give another star if they were truthful about how long the massages are. read more

I had a prenatal massage at Massage Envy on Escarpment (Circle C) on Mother's day. Valli was my therapist and she was great. She had me straddle a chair that was leaning against the massage table. I was also hugging a body pillow. This set-up was like a traditional massage chair. Anyway, it allowed her to work my entire back with the same firmness I usually like. Then she folded the pillow and added others to create a 'recliner' on the table. That's how she worked my legs. It was great. Valli seemed very knowledgeable and friendly. Not too chatty, which I like. I just scheduled it randomly so I feel very lucky. I had a prenatal massage with Baby #1 and it was not good at all. While it was ultimately my misunderstanding that they need to be able to fill the booking you have to cancel with less than 24 hours notice, they did call later to discuss and make sure we were happy. She also looked into the charge and found we were NOT charged for the cancelled appointment. We now know the policies, and understand, and even though it was my misunderstanding of them, it was incredibly appreciated that they made sure we were taken care of.
