    Sophie , the client dog

Pleasant environment . Very helpful front desk and tech people. Clearly explained process from the moment I walked in. Taken in a very timely manner. Very communicative Dr. and phone call follow up after procedure taking time to explain and answer all questions. I've had to use this emergency twice for two different dogs today and three years ago. Nothing has changed, same small personal help in a tough time. The availability to get help when needed was easy ! Couldn't get into any emergency places twice NEAR MY HOME and this place is a GEM

    Chloe is better days

I called about my dog, said come right down, was in the triage room within 10 minutes. Unfortunately my dog was in bad shape, the Dr reviewed several options. It was decided to give her one more night to see if she improved. This gave me 1 more night to spoil my dog and give her a proper goodbye. The staff was very empathetic to my situation.

Baystate provides outstanding service! The new location in Swansea, MA is top notch. Everyone we…read moremet with were welcoming, friendly, knowledgable, and positive. Dr Block is like no other veterinarian we have met. It is very obvious how much he loves animals. He initially took a few minutes (on the floor) to get to know our dog. He petted her and talked to her to make her feel comfortable. I swear he is a dog whisperer, as she was very relaxed in his presence. We love that after hearing everything we had to say, and getting his questions answered, Dr Block, had a multi-step plan, giving us options (and no pressure) how to proceed in figuring out what is going on with our dog. The more he talked, the more he put us at ease. We left Baystate elated at the treatment we got. We feel very blessed to have both Baystate and Ocean State (both affiliated) available to us. We would 100% recommend either facility, as we have used both in the past.

It did take some time for things to get moving once we arrived, almost two hours before X-rays were done maybe because it was a busier night...but once they discovered it was a bowel obstruction, everything began to move quickly. The doctors were very clear and informative, walking us through the situation and treatment plan. I really appreciate their transparency about costs and payment. They don't offer payment plans or financial support, but they make everything clear up front and require a deposit so there are no surprises. Every staff member we interacted with was compassionate, professional, and knowledgeable, which made a stressful situation easier to handle. While no one ever wants to be in an emergency vet situation, we're grateful Bay State is close to home and will definitely be our go-to emergency vet moving forward. Bonus points for the multiple phone call and email updates through out her stay in the hospital, and even after the surgery they are available to answer questions while my regular vet is closed.

From the moment we called ahead to say we were on our way, the staff were incredibly responsive and ready for us when we arrived. They quickly assessed the situation, diagnosed the issue, and carried out the necessary procedures. The clinic itself was very clean, welcoming, and well equipped. Dr. Estes explained everything clearly--what was happening, the prognosis, and what we should do next. The techs / nurses--Kim Nguyen, Kendra Baker, and Jennifer Ducharme--were also wonderful: professional, patient, and very caring. They were attentive throughout the entire process while our Pomeranian was undergoing sedation, and you could tell they genuinely cared. I'm sure they see situations like this every day, but they still treated our dog with the attention and care he needed. Small things like that matter. These are clearly very capable people who could work in many different fields--including human medicine--but they choose to care for pets, and it shows. I would absolutely recommend this clinic and would return again if needed. My one tip: call ahead so they can prepare for your arrival.

She needed immediate care, and many places were closed by that time. It was about 9pm, luckily VEG ER was open, we called and brought our hamster 15 minutes later. They immediately jumped into action checking her symptoms and seeing whatever they could do to help her. Eventually, we were told that she had Urinary Tract Infection, we were offered a few solutions, but one of the main veterinarians who was helping, gently told us the likely outcome. We were able to say goodbye to the hamster, and my daughter got to hold her up to almost the end. They led us into a room so that my daughter and I could discuss next steps, they gave us time and they were very understanding. When we received our pet in her urn, we also received a handwritten card with the signatures of all the VEG ER employees who were telling us that they were sorry for our loss. It was a very sentimental time, and we appreciate everything that VEG ER did for us. If anything every happens to your pet, I recommend VEG ER because of their kindness, also, they are open 24/7 so there is always someone there to help you and your beloved companion.

They told me on the phone that they had an exotic pet specialist but when I got there, I found out that the specialist was out that day, why would they do that? So I could pay the emergency fee? They took Amelia to the examination room where she stayed for at least 2 hours and nobody was talking to me or providing any updates. They made me sign a form that I would be responsible for any additional pay and all I asked was that I would like the estimate to be shared with me prior the service was provided but I ended up with a $505. bill after the service was finished. The exotic substitute Vet, who was new there, Dr. Thang, came to talk to me but she informed that she didn't even check all the wounds, They sent me home with a couple of expensive medications. When I picked up my chicken, her head was down and she was not responding well, she was very lethargic and they did not know how long it would take for her to react to the meds and start healing. Today, the next day, she is still acting the same. I tried to call them several times and I was on hold for several minutes. When I was finally answered, they put me on hold again for 15 minutes, I hung up and called again and at this time, the person who answered the phone said that I had two options: either discharge and to the treatment at home (she had not been admitted) or euthanasia. I find it that for the amount of money they charge, it's not only unacceptable to treat a pet parent like that, it's repulsive. I understand that they are a business, but they are dealing with lives, sentient beings who are loved and cherished. Find another place to take your pet. This is not the one. I hope they get their karma instantly.

My friend called ahead to them know that my cat was near the end and that I wanted her euthanized. We were told that they would place us in a room (NOT a treatment room) When I arrived, they took her to the treatment area instead of into a room and I was super confused. They freaked when they saw her...it was like one of those frantic scenes on those medical dramas when multiple people run to the gurney. My friend was like "hello, she is here to be euthanized and they apologized. They sat me in a cold exam room and they brought my sweet Tatiana to me wrapped in a towel. The second they placed her in my arms, pinkish liquid started coming our of her nose and mouth. I freaked out an fortunately my friend, who is a hospice nurse, was with me and held as the trainee fumbled around with trying to find a vein for the final shot. Her veins had collapsed so my literally had to tell her where to place the needle. All of a sudden I heard this gushing sound and screamed "what was that??" Fortunately my friend warned me not to look. There was so much liquid released that she had to borrow scrubs and her sweater was ruined. It was absolutely traumatizing. When I left the treatment area they asked me if I wanted to take home the carrier. I don't know exactly what I said but it wasn't nice. Nobody told me what the hell was going on. I had been there only 4 weeks earlier and was simply told "you have a very sick kitty." And then, when I trusted them to help us through her final moments, they failed. I called a few days letter and cried as I explained what happened. The woman (manager?) was not very empathetic and made excuses for what happened but at least she refunded me the cost. I wish that I had the positive experience that others who have reviewed this had. The image of her sick, skinny little body wrapped in a towel with that stuff coming out of her nose and mouth is forever etched in my brain. I am working hard to replace that memory with a happy one but it is really hard. This should never happen to any pet mom again.

My last visit would sadly be my last as my family made the difficult and painful decision to put him down. Its taken me a little over a week to write something but I know I wanted to tell everyone about this location. Numerous issues, including a cancer diagnosis, coupled with his old age after a surgery at his home vet. The staff were always so sweet and caring with him. They even managed to entertain him with some classical music when he was a little yappy! He lived a long, happy spoiled life. I miss him everyday. My first pet out of high school, we were almost never apart. I think that knowing he was in the best possible hands near the end helped take some of my guilt grief away. Every single person was amazing and I just know that profession cannot be easy. God, my sister and I cried for hours and we were never rushed. Dr.Silverstone, thank you for always being straight with us but also extremely professional and kind. They contract out to help with end of life arrangements and cremation, if you choose. 'epaws' or something. The arrangements were done quickly but not so quickly that you worry about disrespect, you know? A week later and I have his urn and we've set up a memorial in the house for him. No one wants to think about these things but pricing is transparent and gotten out of the way quickly. And yes, it's pricy but what isn't? This is emergency care. Get pet insurance!!!! Honestly, I would have gone bankrupt if it helped but there is unfortunately a limit to things that can be treated and the doctor said it best: "age is not a disease". So hopefully your fur babies live long, happy lives and that you only have to go for minor inconveniences but if you do have an emergency, this location was clean, professional and fairly easy to get to. I had broken my ankle last year so walking has been a challenge but I got around just fine, even carrying around my 20lb lump of love. Thank you all again. I don't know when I'll be ready for another pet but I don't regret all the years of love. Once time has softened the pain, and years go by, I hope you all stick around and do what you ALL have done so well and maybe I'll see you again...Hopefully under better circumstances. Wishing you all love and peace and kindness.

We didn't have time to stick around for the final decision, but I do hope it did recover. The staff there was really friendly, thanked us for being good Samaritans, and had us fill out a form.
