I would recommend Mass-RI Veterinary ER I think the whole experience was efficient. For the immediate service on a Saturday evening, I feel that the cost was reasonable. I feel that we received prompt care that addressed our pet's illness completely. Everyone was nice and patient. The two ladies at the front desk went out of their way to assist me, and were so kind. Their calming attitude helped me focus and stop panicking! Everyone behaved exactly the same as when I visited previously- with compassion and professionalism. I was so touched during our previous visit- they took the time to console us when our cat died. They placed her in a little casket with a rose affixed to the top- a sweet gesture that they didn't have to do but it shows that they understood our loss. read more

Front desk was amazingly polite. Nurses were very helpful, but the doctors are awful. I had to call numerous times never received a call back. I had to bring my cat to another vet only to find out that they didn't do anything that they were supposed to do and that they were confused about the treatment plan that they implemented. my dog was stung by a bee, I assume, and had facial swelling. upon calling, the front desk asked me questions and gave me options. rather than jumping to worst case scenario, they told me to try Benadryl and if it didn't work, then I could come in, or I could just come in. I appreciated the truthful response because my dog has high anxiety and hates the car and going to the vet even more.if I didn't have to add anymore stress for her, I wasn't going to. I did have to end up going in, but i got an appointment that day and they fixed her right up. read more

My dog needed to be seen for a broken leg sustained 10 days prior due to her escaping and beeing gone that long. I made an error thinking I hade made an appointment and showed up for her to be seen. So long story I took my cat in for a bladder blockage and three days later they have a solve the problem which is fine but when I went to pick him up to take him to a surgeon, they proceeded to tell me the problem in the waiting area in front of all the patients, and made us feel like we are inferior as owners so please do everybody a favor do not bring your pets to this place, I for one will never go to this place ever again!! read more

Do not use this facility. We went there for our cat's laceration wound and leg / walking problem. They X-ray'd the wrong leg ($299), later admitted it was the wrong leg, and refused to either refund us or simply X-ray the correct leg to make us whole. Joy Will, D.V.M, was rude from the get go. We were clear we just wanted to be made whole, but instead they wanted to charge for more Dr time and another X-ray. The office manager would not budge. Stay away as they are both incompetent and use unethical business practices. Go to Veterinary Urgent Care Center on the EP/Seekonk line instead. read more

We have used this clinic previously and been pleased with care. Tonight, care was rushed and not thorough, dogs were screaming in pain in the back while vet techs threw out F bombs loudly and while answering a call from a concerned pet parent, the receptionist referred to them as "ghetto" and suggested they simply lie and tell them the dog was resting comfortably. Unprofessional and unacceptable.Never again. Do NOT leave your pet here overnight. read more

They nearly killed my brother's dog by misdiagnosing him. His dog was there for 4 days and not once did he speak with a vet. When the dog came home and was still sick, we took him to Ocean State. Several thousands later, he was misdiagnosed and being given medication that was in fact making him much sicker. When my brother called to speak with a vet, he was told absolutely not. He asked to speak with a supervisor and this person was extremely rude and again, would not forward him to a vet. If you love your pets, please do not bring them here. Avoid this place unless you want your pet dead. First, they overcharge for any procedure they make compared to others in the area. Second, they do not do a routine physical exam yet still charge someone for the "job" performed. My situation: my dog was brought in for a suspected eye infection. They gave me antibiotics after the blood work and xray were normal. (Unnecessary exams yet charger me ). After a few days of applying the antibiotics to my pets eye, the eye got worse. We brought the dog to another center, Tufts veterinarian emergency hospital, where they diagnosed my pet with Glaucoma. No signs of infection, it was glaucoma. Now i am in a rush to save his glaucoma affected eye. This could have been avoided if they did the proper eye exam at this clinic. They do not do a thorough exam. Yet charge a pet owner for the "exams". Go somewhere else for your pet's needs. This place is a scam. read more

I took my cat in for lethargy and high fever. They took her in the back to obtain labs and X-rays, and after 20 minutes decided to use sedation to calm her down in order to obtain the tests. She was gone for over an hour after this decision was made and I wasn't updated during this time period at all which was extremely anxiety provoking. My cat came back to me with a bloody paw, missing a nail, and extremely sensitive in her lower back. She is known to be a feisty cat, but I have never had her come back to me injured. I'm disappointed in the lack of empathy, communication, how this situation was handled in general and will not be returning. read more

This is a veterinary ER that needs prior appointments, before arriving with a sick animal. The website stated no prior calls were needed before coming in which is why we just arrived. Needless to say it was very stressful looking for another emergency vet with my sick animal in the car. A lot of hospitals were only seeing/admitting extremely sick patients or were short staffed and were turning patients away. We drove to a second ER and waited 45 mins to hopefully see someone. The receptionist informed us we may be triaged out because it wasn't enough of an emergency. A tech at this hospital said our pet would need to be "flat out and unresponsive" to be seen by a Dr. Disturbing, because the reason we took him in asap was to avoid that situation. I was concerned he was becoming dehydrated and would be very sick. We ended up leaving because they wouldn't see him. Back to Mass-RI Veterinary ER. The ladies at reception were extremely helpful and empathetic. We were given a few options of other hospitals to call because they weren't seeing anyone that Saturday. Unfortunately, none of the other places could take us because they were short staffed or at capacity. We ended up going home and calling to make an appointment for Sunday at 8am. Again, everyone I spoke to were helpful and understanding. Our boy was seen on Sunday and was given medications, which helped a lot. The website definitely needs updating with regards to appointments and calling ahead of time. Other than that, it's good to know there's a trustworthy ER to go to over weekends when we can't access our usual vet. read more

Will never go here again! Would give a 0 rating if possible If you have another emergency veterinary option, take your animal there. I am writing this review for my partner as she is done dealing with this clinic forever. Dr. Kennedy was extremely rude and unprofessional! She called my partner "aggressive" for asking questions about the status and situation of our dog. Furthermore, Dr. Kennedy refused to explain anything else over the phone when my partner did ask questions because she "had to see another animal" despite not giving us a full picture of what was going on. Lastly, her response to expressing that we were unsatisfied with her answers was "well we gave you the option to go somewhere else and this is what you chose". Well we will never chose this clinic again thanks to Dr. Kennedy. As I said at the beginning, if you have any other option for an emergency veterinary clinic, use it because Mass-RI Veterinary ER is extremely unprofessional. read more

I brought my dog in after he was backed into with a vehicle. They wanted 1300$ to put his hip back into place and 350$ for an x-rays, a sonogram, and meds for him. 1650$ total. Luckily we only paid 350$ to see what was going on. We went to warren animal hospital the next day and the cost to put his hip into place with meds was 470$. Same job, 1/3 the cost. If you don't want to pay out of pocket based off emotion, I suggest going somewhere else. You could end up putting your dog down because they 'financially fear mongered' you. These people saved our cat. The doctors, technicians and receptionists were all full of love and care. We brought Kiba in earlier this week. When we came home, we saw he was clearly in pain and very slow to react. We brought him immediately to this veterinary ER at around 11:00pm. The registration process was easy, and they were able to take him in within 10-15 minutes. They called us shortly after with a precise diagnosis. Kiba had a urinary obstruction and has been unable to pee. Kiba went under anesthesia as they took critical care. He was out a little over an hour. The doctor contacted us and always kept us in the loop. They have great communication! He was there for two days under the immense love of the vet techs, receptionist and doctors. They let us know Kiba was a great cat, loving, and let us know his new prescription diet. Everything was well communicated on what to expect. Thank you all so much!!!!! He is now home happy and healthy!! read more

We don't usually leave negative reviews, but we felt like our situation wasn't handled appropriately at all by the staff at Mass-RI and are extremely upset by how our dog's care was handled on 2/7 and 2/8. We brought our dog in early morning on 2/7 after noticing increased lethargy, shaking, and decreased appetite. She was fairly quickly diagnosed with Addison's Disease and we were told she would need to stay for the night- totally fine. We were happy to know what was wrong and excited to have a treatment plan moving forward. Addison's requires an injection into the skin that is given once per month. What concerned us is that, after calling to check on our pup the next morning, the veterinarian we spoke with let us know that a portion of the injection was "accidentally" given through an IV instead of the skin, leaving our dog at risk for anaphylactic shock. They had to call poison control after this occurred and give her Benadryl to combat any negative effects that were experienced. They then gave the rest of the injection through the skin. There was no apology from the vet, no concern shown, nothing. I thought maybe we'd get an explanation as to how this happened when we came in for her discharge appointment. When coming to pick her up, we also noticed inconsistencies in her medication regime on the discharge report. After reviewing it, the vet tech said she would check it over with the veterinarian- sure enough, they wrote out the incorrect dosages for her on our paperwork. Had the tech not caught it, we would have been giving her the wrong dose of medication. at home. We expressed how upset we were with the two major issues that happened with our dog's care and said that we never so much as received an apology from anyone on the team. The vet never came back out to talk with us, and we left feeling very uncomfortable. We want to express that every vet tech we spoke with directly was absolutely wonderful, but feel that it was the veterinarians that really were at fault for these events. A sincere apology from a doctor goes a long way... we don't feel like we can trust them with our dog's care going forward and will be finding another emergency vet for any future visits. read more

I should have left this review for my first dog, but now I'm leaving it for my second dog. The lack of the empathy that this place has for animals is horrendous. A family member and I came here & had a horrible experience. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE. There was zero compassion at all. First of all, they are EUTHANASIA HAPPY. They money monger & drain your pockets when you are in a desperate & saddening situation. I came a few years ago & they put down my dog for a condition I later learned could have been treated when informed by a different vet. This time, we ran in with our DYING dog in an emergency and we were sobbing & emotional because our poor baby was sick & dying. Once they euthanized him, they RUSHED US to fill out our cremation paperwork because I was told there was "other people waiting" as I had just felt my WHOLE SOUL shatter into pieces & watched my dog die. This was one of the worst days of my life and I hope this business closes one day. No compassion from anyone. My dog was 15 years old, and they treated him like a price tag. PLEASE GO TO THE OTHER ER VET NEARBY. It's way better. I would not recommend this place to ANYONE. Go to Bay state if you want a caring & compassionate experience. Whether you are a healthcare provider for a person or pet, you need to be empathetic & compassionate. Not to mention the amount of unprofessionalism. Ps, while in the waiting room I heard one of the vet techs talking about another dog say "that dog is chill but NOT PRETTY to look at." That is extremely disrespectful. Having an animal in distress and to have him pass away is devastating. Murphy, our beautiful tuxedo cat, was hit by a car and covered in blood. The staff at Mass-RI Veterinary ER was amazing. Their patience, expertise, and kindness was outstanding. From the minute we arrived, their response was swift and thorough. Through the process, and response, and in our grief each and every one of the veterinary team was so kind, respectful, and helpful. After CPR, medications, all of the best possible care possible, we ended up taking Murphy home to bury him. Not easy to do, but the vet techs prepared him so lovingly, we just couldn't have been in better hands. The front desk staff was awesome, explaining the invoice, thank you! The vet techs and the vet were just perfect in helping us deal with such a difficult experience, thank you all. I highly recommend this animal hospital, and although I hope I never have to visit again, I believe it's the best place to take an animal for urgent care. read more

Do yourself a favor and drive up the street to Bay State. They were compassionate and empathetic. I felt very comfortable speaking with the vet and the staff. As for MASS-RI vet they made a terrible situation even worst. I never once felt comfortable speaking with any staff members. I can't believe the poor interaction and communication that resulted in me not returning. I was never counseled on the pain med prescribed to my dog diagnosed with bladder cancer. I watched my dog sleep all day and walk with an unsteady gait. I thought he was dying until I researched the drug which indicated those were 2 of the most common adverse side effects. As a health care professional I know it is crucial to counsel patients and their caregivers on ANY drug prescribed to ensure they are taken properly, and most importantly reduce risk of injury. We have stairs and these side effects put my dog at risk for falls. I requested to speak to the vet when I arrived to the office to pick up my pet and she would not come out from the back to speak with me. This seems to be a trend after reading other reviews. I strongly feel this goes against the principles of a health care professional. A veterinarian should provide competent veterinary medical clinical care under the terms of a veterinarian-client-patient relationship (VCPR), with compassion and respect for animal welfare and human health. When I called to speak with her and ask her why she didn't tell me about any of these side effects or that if he stopped taking the drug he could have increased pain or seizures her response was "So do you want a handout on the drug?" I also voiced this to the front desk and told them how I thought my dog was dying and she replied "aww". I'm so shocked these people work in this field. I would never recommend this establishment to anyone. Also while I in the waiting room the front desk were speaking negatively about other clients pet. Classy. read more

This is the 2nd time we have had really bad experiences with our dogs at Mass-RI Vet ER. Misdiagnosis and lack of knowledge when to refer comminuted fractures to an orthopedic surgeon is such a negative for us, that we will never bring another pet here. Go to Bay State instead! They are very compassionate and very careful of our little girl with a fracture of the tibia and fibula. Surgery was done because a comminuted fracture in when the bone is splintered or crushed. Our little girl required a plate and screws to repair the break. read more

My mothers beloved Shih Tzu (Stella) died suddenly this evening. due to the nature and abruptness of the dogs passing we were in complete shock and really didn't know what to do. to make matters worse it's a major holiday so our dogs primary veterinary was closed. A quick thinking family member advised us to call Mass-RI Veterinarian ER. I'm so grateful for this recommendation because the staff were incredibly calm while I called in a blubbering mess and when we arrived they quickly ushered us into a private room so we could fill out the necessary paperwork and have time to say our goodbyes in private. The vet techs who helped us were professional, calm, and compassionate. they even took the impression of our dogs paws and baked the mold right on site so we could go home with it tonight. I should also mention that the fees associated with our dogs cremation were minimal which was a relief because I know these services can run into the hundreds. I hope to not endure such a thing again anytime soon but if I should you can bet I'll be using Mass-RI veterinary ER. read more

Right from the beginning, when we rushed our 14 year old cat in with acute respiratory issues to the day we had to pick up her remains the staff here treated us with nothing but kindness, compassion and respect. They call every few hours with updates if your pet has to have inpatient care so that you don't have to go too long worrying. They don't rush you and give honest medical and personal advice during a very scary and stressful time. We did end up having to say goodbye only because she would not have had a good quality of life outside of oxygen support. I am so happy I took kitty out of Ocean State Vet Hospital that performed a surgery to remove an intestinal hairball blockage. Instead of using regular sutures they used dissolvable sutures to which my cat was allergic to and developed a bad infection. I immediately demanded my cat to be discharged. I drove from there directly to MASS-RI when they told me they use regular stitches and staples. This hospital really cares about pets and people. When you call them you get a person, not a voice mail directing you to press buttons to get someone. I waited a couple of hours and the doctor performed surgery that same evening at 1:00 am, Wednesday to clean up the infection. She did a wonderful job of sutures, very neat, clean and supportive of tissue. Kitty stayed there for the whole day and I picked her up on Thursday afternoon. Kitty looked very good! Still wasn't eating as yet but it was expected. For her aftercare, I immediately took her to an integrative hospital in Hopkinton, where she received a series of ozone treatment, vitamin shots, ultraviolet belt to reduce swelling and a "fecal biome transfer" which boosted her immune system. When I took kitty home she bolted out of the carrier, jumped up on the furniture and started scratching it! I was delighted knowing she was feeling excellent after only two days of surgery. I am grateful for the excellent job done at MASS-RI and I highly recommend it. I wish I had brought her there in the first place and saved myself and my cat the pain and suffering at the other place. read more

We came here due to our regular vet being closed. It was a weekend night and our dog was not acting like herself and we decided we had to bring her to the ER. We called before arriving and once we got there were taken into an exam room right away and greeted by the nurse. Both the Vet and Vet Nurse that assisted us were very nice and good with our dog. Our dog seems timid at first but once she smells you she will lick you and that is exactly what she did with both men that took care of her. We were unsure what was wrong with our dog so of course they asked us many questions as they were trying to narrow down what could be wrong with her. Her symptoms were panting, rapid heart rate, head down, tail between the legs and just wanting to be with her mommy (very skittish). Just very abnormal for our happy loving lab. Before anything started the nurse gave us an explanation and an estimate of the procedures they wanted to run. After doing blood work and xrays the Vet Nurse noticed her tail never moved while she was on the exam table. He then realized what was wrong, Swimmers Tail aka Limber Tail Syndrome. The Nurse and Vet came back in and told us what was going on with her and what needs to be done in order for her to heal and feel better. Rest, no wagging of the tail and medication as it is very painful. Our dog had not been swimming or excessive playing on that day which are known to be causes of swimmers tail, so we're still unsure of the actual cause. I'm just happy she is healing and feeling better. We were there a total of 2 hours from about 10pm to midnight but it was not bad considering the tests they ran. I can't thank the staff enough for how well the treated us and our dog, their great communication skills and actually figuring out what was wrong with our little girl. She is feeling so much better and is already back to wagging her happy little tail. read more
