I went here to qualify for a job I was taking with a security company and I am not close enough to this range to belong but it seemed ok. The staff here is great, really helpful, friendly and checked us in quick, helped us with any questions etc. The place is pretty large, two ranges, several lanes, however the reason I am knocking this down a few stars, the ranges are absolute freezing cold, like as if I was shooting outside at an outdoor range. I mean, I get it, you have to turn on ventilation, however, I belong to 3 other indoor ranges and I have used several indoor ranges in the military and even at the FBI academy and nowhere, I mean nowhere have I see a freezing cold, blowing smoke out of your mouth cold, indoor range. I am not sure if the heat was broken or what, but what this caused is our qualifications to be a bit skewed due to being frigid and shaky which was not great. The lanes seemed a bit older, odd switch to move targets down range which got stuck a few times. Other than that issue, the place seemed ok, nice store, plenty of stock and the prices were decent. I hope they can get the heat fixed in this place, maybe it wasnt working right or something. read more

My Dad and I had a ton of fun here. I had taken the 4hr licensure class here, so I took Dad back for the "Introduction to shooting handguns and rifles" class. I've been to a few firearm safety classes in my time (license to carry in NY and PA). Chris taught an excellent class! He didn't make anyone feel singled out or foolish for any questions. Excellent range at a reasonable price point. Store is attached and well stocked. Classes are always offered. Safety is a priority by the staff especially in the range. It would be particularly nice if the range had heat during the winter. After 15-20 minutes in there, my hands were extremely cold. It is cool during the summer months though. read more

It was disappointing. The instructor was fine and easy to follow. As a beginner and newcomer i had 40 seconds of shooting after four hours of class. Do i know how to handle a gun now? Absolutely no. I understand this is a Massachusetts requirement for your license but honestly i was expecting better. For the newbies like me: 1. Mass requires a basic four hour training. 2. If you go to such class here or somewhere else, don't expect to learn gun handling or to remember the material. People are taking this class just to get a license. 3. Four hours: a) Breaks- totaling 30 minutes b) advertising for all the other classes - totaling 30 minutes c) Mock revolver/pistol handling - 15 minutes (our class was 9 people so it was fast) d) Theory: around 1.30 - very general e) Waiting outside the range idled for 40 seconds practice, 20-30 minute f) Actual target practice 40 seconds and we were given the loaded arm so it was just 40 seconds So, a four hour class could had been a 2 hour class (i know this a Mass requirement but as a training facility i was expecting more enthusiasm for learning). I supposed if you are already proficient, you would like this place but for me, the lack of a serious intro class didn't do it. Last but not least, my info was given to the NRA without my approval. Probably in the fine print but again, you have no opt out. And while i want to know my way around this topic of owning a gun, i don't want to be part of such organization. I took a license to carry certification class with Chris last week. He was an awesome instructor! He answered everyone's questions in great detail and injected some humor into the presentations. The facility itself is very nice. There's a lot of parking behind the building for anyone driving to this location. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that you only get to shoot 5 or 6 rounds of both a revolver and normal pistol. When we went into the range, the gun was loaded for us, handed to us, and then we shot. We did practice loading and unloading in the classroom but it would have been nice to do it ourselves for the "real world" experience. I also understand there's a lot of people to get through (each person in the class gets to shoot), but some more hands-on experience in the range would have been nice. read more

I first started taking courses from Mass Firearms School when they were located in a two classroom setting in Framingham, MA. I was very impressed with their Basic Firearms course that I just had to look at the other classes they offer. By this time they had moved to a larger facility in Holliston, MA, where they are located now. I have since taken their Concealed Carry 1 & 2 with Concealed Carry 3 already signed up for a future date, their Non-resident Utah CCW Class and I am a current range member. Each class is taught by highly trained instructors who bring a wealth of experience to each class. If you ever have the opportunity to take a class by Robert MacQuarrie (aka: Mac), DO IT!!! Mac brings to the table an extensive resume including firearms instruction in the Law Enforcement field and is a Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps. The range is for pistol caliber only, but with so many restrictions in firearm ownership by the Common Wealth of Massachusetts, they are still an ideal place to practice your marksmanship. They are the only facility in Massachusetts that offers the use of firearms directly from their armory, for use in their range, at no cost other than purchasing ammo for it. The one time I worked with a Firearms Instructor I was able to correct a few mistakes I was making and now have a better understanding of what to do when I miss the target. The Retail Store is a new addition that started, I believe this past year, and their sales people are very knowledgeable in all aspects. You can purchase firearms, holsters, safes, cleaning lubricant and that is barely touching the surface. Unlike most Firearms Schools they also have an Online retail store allowing customers the opportunity to purchase everything in their retail store online you just have to pick it up. Yes this also includes ammo as I make it a point to order my ammo a few days ahead so when I get there its ready just in case they run out. In conclusion if you are undecided or already a firearms owner this is the place to come to. I travel 1.5 hours from Cape Cod to attend their classes and utilize their range. Their experience, knowledge, professionalism and state of the art facility is second to none and something you have to experience for yourself. Are you ready for a new addiction? While scrolling through groupon pages I came across a promotion for Mass Firearms School and thought "hmmm.... Why not?". I've never been a fan of guns and have always been intimidated by them, despite having a plethora of friends and family members as LEOs (Law Enforcement Officer) or in the military. If you're at a stage where you're ready to overcome that fear/intimidation (or simply ready to learn and have some fun) MFS is the place to go. From the moment you walk in: Guns! Guns everywhere! In cases, on the walls, in holsters on hips, EVERYWHERE! The staff is great, knowledgeable, and willing to answer any questions, in detail, you may have. It seems the majority of them are LEOs or ex military, not crazy 'gun nuts'. They're composed and sure of themselves and the firearms they oversee. It's amazing how the media and movies can cause a person to have so many preconceived notions, then the actual experience is different. My instructor, Frederick (praying I haven't confused his name), is a LEO and teaching firearm handling/safety is his passion. A loose quote "if more people were informed about guns and gun safety there would be fewer accidents." We started in a big classroom (fortunately I was early and the rest of the class was running late so I was able to get a bit of one-on-one time with him) with the basics: Safety, stance, breathing, figuring which is your dominant eye, then we moved on to the shooting range. THE SHOOTING ROOM IS LOUD AND STARTLING! After my first few jumps at the sound of the firearms I relaxed and we started with handguns (FYI I don't mean to toot my own horn [actually I do lol] but I'm a GREAT shot and have a great "cluster" with handguns) then moved on to the rifle and AK47. That baby is loud and booms throughout your body. It's intimidating and that initial fear that I felt when I first walked into the building came over me momentarily but immediately subsided with the guidance and confidence of my instructor. I'm strongly considering taking that class again if the promo is still running (aside from the 4 hour certification course I've already purchased) so I can have more exposure to that particular gun bcz it still intimidates me a little and I don't want to be afraid anymore! By the time I left, I was on such a high that I practically floated out of the building. MFS is 5 stars all the way! I like to skydive but if I had to choose, I'd definitely choose the range. This past summer, I took the Firearms Safety Course at MFS and received my certificate, as required to apply for an LTC permit. The physical set-up is impressive w/ real classrooms and (2) indoor shooting ranges and store. The instructor was knowledgeable and enthusiastic, during the four-hour safety class, filled with basic information on gun safety and the mechanics of how a gun operates. It "touched" upon gun laws, too. Four hours might seem like a long time and, yet, it's only designed to be an introduction (it was a solid intro, nevertheless) and gave me more ideas on what it IS and what it ISN'T to acquire a gun permit and carry and perhaps use a weapon for self-defense. The instructor stressed the need for more schooling and use of your weapon at a firing range, in order to really know how to use it. That was good advice. The four-hour course was a good starting point. Sure, having more time to fire off rounds at their firing range (as part of the course) wouldn't hurt, but the instructional class was definitely the important part. Firing a gun at the end of four hours, I feel, was icing on a well-made cake. I had a real gun in my hand, fired it a little, and gained an appreciation for what a responsibility owning a gun would be. A lot more than glamorous. One more thing. I had made a few other calls to "instructors" of the required safety course , but had no call-backs, except one - weeks after I had rec'd my Certificate from MFS. Their registration process was on-line and simple, from choosing an available class-time from their schedule to payment (less expensive than I had thought), with confirmation of my registration and e-mailed reminders. This rating is really for the "Learn to Shoot Live - 1 hour instruction course" more than the facility itself. We bought a groupon for a 1 hour Live shooting class, so my girlfriend and I went one Saturday last month. Pros: It's close to where we live and we didn't have to travel far. Most of the staff seems knowledgeable and quite professional. They are more than willing to answer questions and show you any of the firearms in their display cases. The facility itself is clean and well kept. Though the waiting area is tiny. There are a few classes going on, so it felt like we had 30 people waiting in a lobby made to comfortably seat 8-10. Fortunately, the classes started after not too long. Cons: We had 9 people in our "Live Shooting" class. There were only 5 or 6 lanes in our "range room" and the area where you stand is pretty tight, when not shooting. They had 3 firearms to shoot, and 1 instructor (sometimes 2) for 9 of us. They swapped instructors somewhere in the middle, and didn't really do a good job of transitioning where we had left off. To make matters worse, other people were coming in to use the lanes. This meant that it got crowded fast and we spent most of our time standing around waiting to shoot. There wasn't alot of "instruction" either, and even finding supplies seemed disorganized. I felt like the class is led by the instructor who is most bored at the time the class begins. No prep, no speech.... sort of an impromptu instructing type of thing. Overall: It was a fun experience for 1 hour. I gave it 3 stars because we used a groupon and I'm sure if you booked a personal instructor, it would have been more hands-on. It seems like a good place to go if you own your own firearm and want a range to use. I'd probably give it a 4 if I had my own firearm and went there to shoot. We may go back, but I'd like to have personal range time instead of being in a big group. read more

I'm new to gun ownership so I was looking for a range that not only provided the ability for me to shoot and improve my skills, but also one that was fully staffed and knowledgable to help me on this journey. I live in Boston so Holliston is a decent drive away but it is worth every mile. The staff is great, always welcome to answer any and all questions I have. Also, as a member I have full access to their entire arsenal so if I want to try out other firearms than the one I own, I simply pay for the ammo and I'm ready to go. There's a lot in the news about guns and if you want to have a serious discussion about them you need to get educated. This is a fantastic place and I give it my highest recommendation. It's clean, well lit, professionally staffed and yes, there are a lot of guns, so if you have a fear of them you'll get over that pretty quickly. You can also get range time without a permit with an instructor right beside you, a little target practice is always a nice way to relieve some stress. The basic firearms class was clear and concise, and our instructor James G was terrific. No nonsense to keep things moving but personable with just the right amount of humor to keep you engaged. He covered a lot, answered all questions and made the very complicated MA guns laws much clearer. The class I was in had about 25 people of all ages, mostly men but 5-6 women, so I would think anyone would be comfortable here. The range instructor was great and the four hour class flew by. As for the reviewer who said they felt lost-- you get out of it what you put in. You're paying for this class to learn, pay attention and ask questions if you don't understand something. It's your own fault if you don't participate with questions. In our class we had several people ask for clarifications and he never made anyone feel stupid. Come to class with the intention to learn and you'll be fine. I'm going to join the range membership and take some additional courses there. Highest recommendation. read more

I took the basic firearms course. It was good but not the best thing ever. I am a complete newbie and I felt lost a lot of the time. The teacher would ask people for answers and people would softly mumble them out and I didn't hear what they said. There was an entire idea as if you would have some basic knowledge of a gun and i had zip. When it came time to handle the gun prior to the range it was hard to really do anything with an instructor in your ear barking orders. It must be old hat for them but it is totally foreign to me. My recommendation would be that they pass around an empty gun while the instructor is talking so you get feel how heavy it is... how hard it is to pull the chamber back where everything is. But there was a lot of information I simply hadn't thought of. When I got to the shooting range the staff member was kind and patient with me. Even tried to make some nice small talk to loosen me up. And I did get 6 of my 15 rounds in center mass. That was the best part. I probably will be back. read more

I took the basic firearms course. This was the third such class that I've taken in the third state I've lived to qualify for carrying a handgun. As a person who knew 99% of the information before going into the class, I was glad they covered the MA specific laws, but would have liked for it to cover when it was actually legal to use your firearm for self defense (this information was not for me, but for the the other 20 people in the class who had never touched a gun before). Perhaps a bit less time talking about the Assault Weapon Ban...just an idea. All in all though, great class, knowledgeable instructors who encouraged students who had a question to ask it or needed more help to stay and get it. read more

Have had a membership with them for about 2 months now. Staff is always respectful and courteous when I go to rent out a lane and shoot. They can also help answer most questions you have on firearms. The shop does not have much of a selection right now due to Covid. But a membership here is well worth the price for $20 a month and you can shoot whatever you want off their wall for free! Loved it! All the instructors are very thorough and they pay attention to every detail you do when handling a firearm - to correct any errors of course. I took the basic firearms safety course. Our instructor, Dan went through with his slides very thoroughly and at a good pace. It seemed that we were all very engaged. This is a four hour course. The first three were classroom-like and the last hour is hands on. I did not expect to learn the insides and the mechanics of a firearm, but I did. You don't learn 100% of it, but you learn the basics so you can understand how a firearm operates. I'd be back to take other courses in the future read more

My fiancee went into store like 3 minutes ahead of me as I was on my cell, so she went to the store part , she stood in front of a revolver display looking at it for 3 minutes, not on of the so called " gun experts even asked her if she needed any help, I walked in by myself, looked around for 2 minutes...no one said a word to me.....great customer service, wont be going back to this place, oh and their revolver selection for rentals has only 2..what a joke read more
