the range it's self is nice, however the staff and rules are not practical for anyone who wishes to practice defensive shooting or work on form. to explain this let me explain my credentials. I am currently a firearms instructor (NRA and Law enforcement), I served in the US army for 15 years with numerous combat tours. And also serve as a member of a swat team. I went there to practice drawing my pistol with a newly issued holster. I explained to the staff my intent, my experience and training in advance because I know some ranges do not allow holster firing . I was told "i am not qualified to do so" mind you by a gentleman who was carrying holstered with an old leather holster whom did Not appear to know what he was doing. This was ultimately not a big deal to me as I figured I could work on other aspects of my firearms training. I watched this same gentleman attempt to assist a newer shooter and give them incorrect and unsafe advice On how to handle a phase 1 (failure to feed failure to fire) malfunction. This then frustrated me as the advise was impractical, and could be unsafe. Next I was told that I could not fire at a target closer than 7 yards Due to fear of "shooters bullets hitting the ceiling. if someone was shooting towards the ceiling at that range they'd have to be negligent. mind you this defeats practical shooting for self defense as most engagements occur within 7 feet not 7 yards. Mind you I only wanted the target at 5 yards for a few drills. Next I was asked not to rapid fire. Which I noted I was not doing in the first place. I was instructed by range staff that I could only fire 1 round per second. If you know shooting that's extremely slow. I was only attempting to work on controlled pairs. i was instructed that this is not allowed. Then at 7 yards I was instructed I could not work (slow) failure drills. Then when I went to leave the range the staff was advising patrons incorrectly on state laws and rules regarding transportation of firearms and concealed carry laws. The facility is nice but the rules they have and staff make it a place that is impractical for any serious firearms training other than slowly plinking at a target with no True training goal in mind. because of that I would not recommend this place. Spend the 45 minutes and drive to American Fire Arms school or Elite where they allow you to actually train. Especially considering both are similarly priced at around $20 An hour or so. read more

Enthusiastic, friendly staff Comfortable facility Accommodating programs Before December 10, 2019, I'd never held or fired a handgun, but felt curious to compare target practice with a firearm to the different discipline of archery. When I looked around for local programs to introduce beginners to the basics, I found MGC's Handguns 101 and decided to try it. At a cost of $200 for three hours of combined instruction, range time, rentals, and ammunition, Handguns 101 wasn't cheap, but I feel good about it as an investment. The overview covered a history and type breakdown of handguns, evolution and popular styles of ammunition, safety, storage, cleaning, eye/hand dominance, stance, and plenty of visual aids and helpful answers to questions along the way. Range time included electronic ear muffs and protective eyewear, plenty of open lanes on a Tuesday night, and a lineup of ~14 guns to try (single/double action revolvers, single/double action/striker pistols) ranging from .22 pistol to .44 Magnum. I'm sure much/all of this might be available at many gun shops/ranges, but I need to mention the instructors by name. I was especially happy with Claude in the classroom portion and Tony and Ken in the range segment - each gave me clear, patient, helpful guidance and tips at each step as a beginner, and by the end delivered exactly what I was looking for in the class - familiarity and comfort with the subject, confidence with the equipment, and a desire to continue finding out more. So, as I was walking out and investigating what I could do next to move out of beginner phase, I felt good about the investment, and will happily return to Midstate. Super friendly staff! They've always treated me and my friends very well. It helps that everyone is nice when I bring someone shooting with me for their first time and their anxiety is through the roof. The range itself is very nice. The bays are pretty wide compared to some of the other ranges I've seen, and it makes for a nice workspace. The rental selection is great! MidState range has some very good RSO's there. The Bay's are good and wide to give you enough space to sort out your gear. It's a good indoor range to keep your skills sharp. Cost's $25.00 an hour to use the range. The ammunition prices are a little high. There is a good mix of beginner's, intermediate and skilled shooters, the RSO's make sure that everyone is safe and practicing safety. read more

These guys optimize safety. I like their systems in place. If you go for the first time you have to take a test that lasts around 15 minutes. You read a booklet, you take the test and they grade it. It involves their policies and safety procedures. After passing, you pay $25 per hour per lane. You also become a member and given a membership card - and they do a quick FBI background check. The prices of their handguns are good. They carry a decent supply of items. Their gun range officer is pretty intense and in your business. I like that, it's all about safety. They make sure you load and unload while on the firing range, they offer critique as well as corrective precautions. This range is worth my drive and time. I'll be back. read more

My husband brought me here last year for a marksman/gun handling beginners course This has easily and quickly become my favorite pastime. Most expensive passtime I've picked up as well. I felt overwhelmed and intimidated as a female shooter but the workers here are so easy to talk to that those nonsense fears melted away quickly. I feel safe while on the range because of the safety protocols put into place. Kyle one of the owners is personable and knowledgeable, we actually had seen him at charity game dinners for years before becoming regular shooters at Midstate. I bought my husband a VIP membership, the best $500 bucks I've ever spent. He can make reservations and get an hour and a half no extra charge, normally 25$ an hour. You can also rent a free gun each time which was super helpful while we were feeling out what brand we wanted to purchase. You also get 12 guest passes! If you are interested in this sport but are skeptical I definatly suggest one of their courses, they even offer a ladies night! read more

Huge selection and variety of firearms and accessories! Plenty of great and friendly staff to help you. Their indoor shooting range is a lot of fun and their range safety officers are top notch. They also have this nice break room area where you can grab a drink and chat with your buddies or study. The staff are always available to give you good information or assistance. Every want to try out a firearm, you can rent almost any kind of firearm to test. Also if your looking to qualify for a range test their instructors are the best. Can't say enough about this place! I was in a few days ago. Range Related The range safety test was a nice touch. It is a quick written test on their range rules. It is open book, so if you fail-I'm guessing being a gun range isn't the best place for you. They have a bunch of different guns available for rent, most are $10/hr, some are $15/hr. For rental guns, you must purchase ammo from them. The range itself was nice. 25 yard indoor range. The ceilings seemed higher than what I've experienced in other ranges. Bays are wide enough that you don't feel squished between the walls. RSO was friendly and knowledgable. I'm guessing there was at least 8 different lanes in use, yet it was not as loud as you would expect. Store Related Nice selection ranging from revolvers to semi-auto rifles and shotguns. I did not spend much time looking at the guns. If I did, I'd probably be going back in a week to pickup whatever latest gun I didn't need. I knew what I wanted to rent (a 686) before I got there. The staff members were all friendly. The place had a nice vibe to it. The store side of the place was very relaxed, and the range side seemed to be functioning like a well oiled machine. This place is hands down the best gun range in RI/southern MA. Once I discovered this place it's the only one I've been back to. Bring your own gun or even rent one of theirs and try out the 25 yd indoor range. It's clean and it's never overcrowded. The guys working there are all very knowledgeable and professional. Ammo is priced pretty reasonably and orders are relatively quick to come in. If you shoot often definitely get a membership you can't beat it!! $350 gets you access every day of the year if you want, all you have to do is call and reserve the lane. You can even bring a guest (they give guest passes I forget how many.. maybe 10-15 a year). read more

Extremely rude staff. Started off by answering our question of "do we need to recerfty with the written test since we haven't been there in 3 years" and they answered no unless the cops are in here with a picture of you because I beat my girlfriend... then called us a felon for driving across state lines with a pistol from RI to MA and then continued to yell at us for 3 different things for not knowing the rules. Mind you it was very small things like having the target at 7 yards minimum not 5 and what not. Long story short extremely rude about everything after we asked to redo the test and when I asked for a print out of their rules the overweight employee wanted to question everything about me. read more

What a great place. I've been to quite a few pistol ranges in several places. Often times you run into know it all employees who know nothing. I overheard some employees talking to other customers and I was impressed that I didn't hear the know it all attitude or typical sales pressure. The actual range is great! I recently moved back to Rhode Island and was looking for a pistol range close to my house. I came across Midstate Gun Company and decided to try it out. It's a great range - clean, safe, good lighting. They also sell targets and any other accessory you require. Their selection of firearms for rent was decent, but to buy is a bit lacking. That didn't bother me since I wasn't renting or buying anything. The only downside to this range is that it's busy, and if you don't have a membership, and the range is full, then you get bumped behind members who come in to shoot while you're waiting. I ended up waiting almost an hour to shoot! I imagine this wouldn't be an issue if I were to become a member. Otherwise I recommend it as a great place to practice. read more

I went in for the range. The staff I have to say is awesome, they treat you like they knew you for years. When I was in the range my gun jammed and the spring to my trigger popped out making my gun inoperable. The gentlemen in the range said to take it to the front desk they might be able to help. Not only did they freeze my range time, the gentleman with the long hair ( can't remember his name lol ) took time out to not only look at it but fix it. I couldn't thank him enough. I went in this coventry gun shop with a friend who wanted to buy a firearm for personal protection. We went in and found someone behind the counter eating a sandwich on the counter. I was glad to see that he stopped eating his sandwich until after about fifteen minutes of this guy not giving us any space at all. He kept saying "so what do you want to do?" "Do you want to buy it or do you want to shoot something similar? What do you want to do?" What we wanted him to do was give us some space to think and talk amongst ourselves and not be hounded constantly. Maybe just look at the guns in peace? Went here for the first time a few weeks ago to shoot. Well the testing for the range was a good thing and I like that they give you a range certification card. I also like that if you shoot with two people you get an hour for 30 bucks or if you shoot with one its 25. The lanes are good, the guys there are awesome great attitudes and wicked easy to get along with. I have been there twice and I have not had a bad experience yet. The RSO's are very friendly and are always willing to help. Overall I'm happy with the place. They also have a vast assortment of firearms and ammo. I love that there targets are so cheap, can shoot all day long! Very nice place would recommend to everyone. read more

Kyle (Midstate's owner) is either very good at reading people or very fortunate, because he has assembled a staff that is fantastic across the board. Nick greets us like old friends every time we come in, we've had instruction with Wayne, and then my wife got over her 9mm intimidation during a session with Steve. The knowledge and experience these gentlemen have is extraordinary, and their calm, relaxing demeanor as they share that knowledge with you makes you very relaxed and receptive to listening and learning. You feel completely safe on the range with Range Safety Officers on hand at all times to answer a question or lend a hand. Zero intimidation or ego...those seem to be checked at the door. Instead, they're all very supportive, and are always very willing to listen, to offer suggestions and help. We will be getting memberships here, as we feel like we're among friends every time we visit. In fact, the only suggestion I can think of to offer to Kyle is to add a Family Membership option to his existing membership options. I have bought 3 handguns there. The guys that run the shop are very helpful and the prices are very good. I do suggest that if you are going to shoot there often that you buy a membership. I spent about 200 dollars on range time before I bought one. I read one review and the guy said that he waited 30 minutes and couldn't get help.
