The class I took with Steven was wonderful! I have taken courses before but wanted another refresher before applying for my license. He was very thorough and took plenty of time to answer my questions. I felt very safe while at the range with him. The rules were very clear and safety was the number one priority. I was very nervous to shoot since it has been a while and he was able to keep me calm and focused and I actually did pretty well! I am 100% going back for some private shooting lessons. I recently got my LTC and Steven was very helpful in helping me pick out a firearm that was the right size for me. So I used to shoot competitive rifle back in Finland when I was a teenager and tried shooting pistol a few times but always sucked big time. I decided to take the Basic Pistol Training with Steve to see whether it actually was as hard as it used to be. Steve is awesome and I went there with a friend who had never fired a gun in his life. We both learned tons, got to practice in a safe range with live rounds and I definitely know now I can get the hang of it with little more practice. I would definitely recommend Steve because the class sizes are small and he will stand by your side the whole time to make sure you are safe and learn the proper technique from the get go. just got my certification done by Mr ,Steven and it was relly good ,he covered evrry point to the dot ,and had professional answers to all of my questions ,and all this wail still keeping it light and fun ,he basically made all the hard work more fun for me and i feal my knowledge of gun handling and safety is at 110% know , and Du to his tips and help i also know the best stand for me for practice shooting as he went over all the difference stands and help me find my comfort zone ,i will defiantly take more classes and practice with him and recommend to all my friends , i recommend this to all of you that want to learn how to operate a gun and stay safe doing it , it was also nice that he had over 7 different guns to work with and see all the different safety for all taps of guns out there , read more

I live in Boston, and I'm applying for my LTC-A. I've long been interested in owning a gun, and knowing how to safely use one, but to be honest I've also had a fear of them. On Tuesday I took a Basic Safety Course (the one the state requires) with no live fire, and fifty people in the course. I went to police Headquarters to sign up for my interview, and still felt that I needed more practice given that for the Boston test I have to actually shoot a gun. Because of this, I found Steve's class on the NRA Instructors website and decided to sign up for it. It worked well with my budget compared to the other more expensive classes and the timing (it was four hours, many of the others were eight). I wish I had known about Steve's class before I took the Tuesday class. Steve called me on Friday to confirm my attendance. I explained to him why I was taking it (I took the Basic Pistol Course) and he gave me great information about what I would need, and why the class would be beneficial. With my GPS it was a pretty easy drive in Braintree. We went over many important safety tips and advice for using a pistol. What made the class better than the Tuesday class, however, was the small setting. If I remember correctly he usually caps classes at five students. On this day there were two of us. One of the benefits of this was that we got to actually handle unloaded pistols while we learned about the multiple parts and how they worked. These were things they covered with slideshows in the other class, but actually being able to handle them make a lot more sense. Steve also taught us how to clean them, how to dissemble them, what to do if there's a misfire, hangfire, or squib (meaning you pull the trigger and they don't shoot), and the mechanics of the gun. In the other class they teach you how to hold the gun. In Steve's class we were taught how to hold the gun and actually got to hold it. I'm a hands on learner, and when it comes to firearms I think it's important that all of us hold them as learn how to use them. He also taught us important stances for different situations (one handed, in the home if there's an intruder, two handed, etc. These were important aspects of handling a gun that I didn't get in the other class, but that Steve taught. The second part of the class was the live fire portion. We put on our protective eye and ear gear went to an indoor range next door. This was my first time ever firing a gun. Initially I felt nervous about live fire, but after a few hours of training, handling the gun, holding them, and learning how to be safe with them, I felt much more comfortable firing. Even still, actually doing it is a lot different than watching it being done. Steve helped me get over my nervousness and made me feel much more comfortable about actually firing it. We fired multiple rounds with multiple targets and during the process he gave great advice. For a first time shooter I didn't do so badly! hahaha. We went back in, and Steve gave us our paperwork, the Basic Safety Course paperwork as required by the state, and the NRA Basic Pistol completion certificate. I have to be honest, my politics aren't really aligned with the NRA's, and that initially made me hesitant about the class. That shouldn't worry anyone! I don't agree with the NRA's leadership, but from what I've seen their courses are great and they offer plenty of safety and training preparation for new and experienced gun users. I can't speak enough about how much more safe I feel now. I honestly can't speak enough about how well Steve did training me. I teach high school and so I particularly value the patience, checking back that we were learning, and encouraging us to ask questions that Steve did. Like I said, I walked in a little nervous about guns, and now I feel much more confident moving forward. I'm going to go back for more training with him before my test. I took my Firearms Safety Course through Steve and was VERY impressed! He had a lot of knowledge on firearms and instructed the course in a professional yet fun manner. I went into the course with very little knowledge of firearms and only having a few times at the range under my belt and I left his training session feeling a lot more comfortable handling firearms. He always has an open line of communication for any questions you may have regarding purchasing a firearm, how to clean it, or what would be best suitable for you, etc. Because of Steve I was able to obtain my Class A and feel comfortable possessing a firearm. I definitely plan to take more classes through Steve in the near-future. I would recommend his course to anyone that is interested in getting their LTC or needs other training for a reasonable price and a fun time! read more

Thanks for a GREAT course this weekend. As I said, I'm far from an "expert shooter", but I do feel comfortable around guns, their use and operation, safely, etc. While I went into the course with an open mind, I confess to feeling a little like it was going to be "something I had to do to get my permit here in MA". I ended up learning a LOT in the class (about Mass law, in particular - previously a mystery to me!), and I was really impressed by your open and collaborative teaching style and undeniable depth of expertise. As a new resident of MA, it's great to know that you're out there, instructing folks and helping keep people safe. I initially signed up for Steve's 'NRA Basic Pistol Shooting Course' as a means of qualifying to apply for my LTC license in MA. I had grown-up hunting and been around shotguns my whole life, but had never learned much about pistols. The course changed that. Steve was an incredibly engaging instructor with an encyclopedic knowledge of pistols and firearm safety. Prior to enrolling in the course, I had emailed Steve with a number of questions. He responded promptly to all of my questions and in a very professional manner. While in the class, Steve took the time to answer all of questions of the participants in a thorough manner and really ensure that everyone was engaged. He also made the class fun and I believe that everyone who completed it left with a much fuller appreciation of just how enjoyable pistol shooting could be. He also was very helpful when on the shooting range, providing great advice that had immediate results. I would highly recommend this course to anyone who is interested in pistol shooting as well as any of Steve's other courses. I am looking forward to my next one. read more

I am in the process of applying for my LTC (class A) and needed to take a safety course. I have been shooting before, but only renting weapons at various ranges or shooting with weapons owned by friends of mine. The class with Steve was phenomenal. He was extremely professional and it is obvious that he is very knowledgeable and experienced. I was expecting the class to be tedious, especially considering the amount of material you need to cover in order to pass, but Steve makes it fun and interesting. It took under four hours including the time we spent on the range during the live-fire portion of the class. In addition to being a great instructor, Steve also makes himself available to all of his students after the conclusion of the course. He encourages everyone to call him if they need advice or guidance in relation to the remainder of the LTC application process and even in the purchase of weapons and accessories once the you have your license in hand. He gave us his card with all his contact information and stressed that if we had any questions in the future to feel free to contact him. Lastly, this course was a great deal. Steve charges much less than the majority of the local classes and I cannot imagine a scenario where you would ever receive the same kind of attention to detail and professionalism as I did with this course. I guarantee you will learn a ton and have fun while doing it. If you are looking to fulfill the requirement for your LTC or just want to take a safety course in general, there is no better person to go to than Steve Levitt. read more
