Belmont Dental Group was the worst dental experience I've ever had. I chose this dental office…read morebecause of the overwhelming positive Google reviews, but that turned out to be very deceiving! I suspect they generate loads of fake positive reviews to maintain a high rating. My tooth had been bleeding, so I went there for a deep cleaning. Raycka was the most brutal and careless hygienist I have ever encountered. She does anesthesia in an extremely painful way. At my second appointment, I specifically asked her to be gentle and to use numbing gel if possible. She refused and then gave me anesthesia in an even more painful manner, causing me to spasm. I tried to stop her, but she rejected me again and kept pushing the needle deeper. I could even feel the needle hitting my jawbone, and I nearly passed out during the process. After the cleaning, my gums and jaw were so badly hurt that I had a fever for two consecutive days. What made the experience even worse was the billing part. Before I accepted the service, I called at least twice to confirm if I were in network. The receptionist confirmed that I was in-network. That was a complete lie! I later received a $1,000 bill. X-rays, the doctor's examination, and other services that should have been covered by insurance were charged to me. My wife, who has the same insurance, had an in-network deep cleaning in Waltham and only paid $200. This is absolutely outrageous. I tried calling to negotiate the bill, but their attitude was extremely rude. They insisted the misunderstanding was my fault. Why would you tell me I was in-network when I clearly was not? My decision to receive treatment was based entirely on what I was told. You lied to me and then charged me for it. If I knew I was out-of-network beforehand, I would never have chosen to get my cleaning done here! Horrible cleaning experience and dishonest billing practices. I advise everyone to avoid this dental group. It is a total rip-off.

And that's not to say anything about the people that have been doing this for so long but changing the dynamic and the dentist office actually doesn't make it so terrible to want to go to. I'm not sure if they do Children's Dentistry but if they did this will definitely be a place that I would want to take my kids don't make kids aren't kids anymore because if they're that caring with me I can only imagine what they are to their little patients. I don't see myself ever seeing another dentist office again

I am frustrated by the lack of explanations and potentially unnecessary drilling they wanted to do…read more They told me I had six cavities, this surprised me so I consulted another dentist. That dentist said that they would recommend only one filling, that the others had weakened enamel but not to the point they recommend fillings as tooth material is better. (That dentist also didn't want to replace a filling that I repeatedly questioned as it's sensitive, and explained why. I felt a lot more comfortable elsewhere) Mainly also annoyed by the lack of response I got from them when trying to figure out a miscommunication where I was told a lower number then saw the treatment plan for more cavities. The cleaning was fine but the rest was bad and made me stressed.

It is one issue after another with this practice. Beware, your dental visit does not end after you…read moreleave the office. Be prepared for lost time, money, and patience with their poor insurance and billing practices. These include billing your visit as out-of-network even though it is verifiably in-network, and receiving bogus bills months later and getting yelled at by office staff that "you signed paperwork that you'd be responsible for any payments not covered by insurance" and then, after numerous attempts, having office staff tell you that it was their error after all and everything was covered by insurance. Reading over other reviews, it seems like they have the same systematic practice across patients. For my experiences, it's at the level of questionable billing and insurance practices, but for other patients it sounds like they are making bogus claims about dental issues when second opinions suggest they don't exist. The common theme, in my opinion and shared by other reviews, is that the bottom line is "money" rather than "patient care." I have asked to talk to a dentist about the poor billing/office staff experiences and was never contacted. They have wonderful and cheerful staff. Dr. DerKazarian always explain you your options and give advice. Prices are very reasonable. I feel they guys do not have that many (and presumably) 5-star reviews because they do not keep asking about leaving good feedback like others. I rarely leave feedbacks. But here I did because I felt unfair that such excellent professionals have so few feedbacks.

I saw Dr Mark in June 2014 (I'm shamefully tardy writing this review) for a gum graft and he was amazing. Everyone in the office is very sweet, very helpful and puts you right at ease. I was probably the youngest person in the office and feeling a little defensive because of my dental history (eating disorder and then over-vigorous cleansing of the teeth). Dr Mark talked to me like I had a brain and explained to me how they do these long-term studies of dentists and this is the probability of this, etc. I was put totally at ease and I felt like I was informed and also respected as a patient which is tremendous at putting people at ease. The procedure was great (as great as a gum graft could possibly be!). I didn't feel anything, I remember maybe five minutes of it because of the sedatives, I listened to my iPod the entire time, I was totally chilled with the anxiety drugs they gave me to sedate me. Dr Mark is basically an artist, if you can say that about a Periodontist, he has a real gift. After the procedure, I went home and went to sleep for a few hours and then watched a million episodes of "Call the Midwife" and various shows I stocked-up on to watch while I convalesced. I was back at work a day earlier than anticipated and everything healed really nicely. The only thing that was rubbishy was the two weeks of ice cream, pudding, and soft things (it got old after about two days) and oh, not being able to kiss my fiance. :( During my follow-up, Dr Mark told me that there was one other area that he would probably do and if I decided to have it addressed I could just call and set up the graft, no evaluation necessary, because they had it in my record. (This may be helpful sooner than I want it to be! Ugh.) I thought that was so amazing because it really reduces my anxiety levels (waiting, waiting). They also have a "Call List" that is either automatic or they ask you if you want to be on it or you ask, one of those, and essentially Marie told me that pretty much everyone goes in long before their scheduled date. I went in on my actual date because the alternative time for me was my birthday (!). For some perspective, my evaluation was on April 1st, they had an opening on May 2nd. I don't know if that's on average, but I ended-up going in June 20-something because of scheduling issues. Insurance and everything was processed very quickly and everything but a very small portion was covered and I have pretty basic dental insurance through my employer. The office is located within walking distance of the Porter Square T stop. I walked to my evaluation and follow-up appointments (promising myself a quick detour at the local Paper Source if time permitted!) but my future mother-in-law drove me to the actual procedure.

Trying every which way to find another benefit code they could use to pay for things. But all the communications stopped after tapping out my dental benefits it all stopped. I felt like just a piggy bank for them. Don't go to Dr. Nishimura if you want a dentist that listens, truly listens to your concerns. She'll patronize you and and be dismissive and do what she wants anyways despite your concerns. But it's worse than bed side manor. I stopped going after she left my teeth in worse condition than when I started. I went to two other dentists since then and both told me it would cost over $20K in braces and other dental work to fix it. I have been so bummed about dentist and afraid to go to any more. He conducts an assessment and asks questions to determine the patient's overall health. He reviews my facial anatomy to determine indicators which would impact my quality of sleep. He asks if I had respiratory issues... I learned I had jaw anatomy and TMJ issues... the level of care is nothing I ever experienced and I have been on this earth for many many years. Ultimately, I was diagnosed and was given an oral appliance. This appliance alleviated my sleep issues significantly and for the first time in a decade- I was able to sleep well and breathe. Doc also gave me advice which reduced my inflammation and helped me get off allergy meds. Throughout my visits, the team has been very attentive to all my medical concerns
