Mashawi Salad! Definitely coming back for this again soon!

I ran into this restaurant because it was super close to the AMC Theatres and I had a quick break from the movie marathon. I was looking for some thing the opposite of what I could find at the movie theaters. I got their delicious Mashawi salad and it was So good! I loved all the different textures from soft to crunchy and a wide-range of flavors combined to make this amazing salad. I really appreciate it that it was like a chopped salad consistency with little pieces making it super easy to scoop in my mouth. I already told my mom about it and maybe I will bring her in soon to try it.

Mashawi Grill is a great option for quick Mediterranean food! I've often passed by this Torrance location but it was my first time ever to check it out recently . (Note: I have been to the one in Redondo Beach before and so I somewhat knew what their offerings were). For dinner; I chose to get their Gyro and chicken combo for $18.50. It comes with two sides and I chose hummus and rice pilaf. Overall I was impressed with the good almost of food they gave. The Gyro and chicken were lean and flavorful. I also really liked the hummus. It's a great spot to get food to-go and can see myself coming here again for when I'm craving Mediterranean food.

The good: I got the ground beef beef kebab in a full size (2 kebabs rather than 1) with a side of yogurt cucumber and fries. I also tried the chicken shawarma with a side of baba ghanoush and cole slaw. We got a falafel as an appetizer. The interior was modern and clean. I liked how they had 3 different rice options. I got the yellow rice which was fragrant and moist without being mushy. The bad: It was $44 for two people which was more than other Mediterranean spots in the area. The falafel was hard from the fried outside and didn't taste as fresh as falafel I've had elsewhere. The garlic sauce was super dense and thick and lacked garlic flavor. The baba ghanoush was overly smokey tasting. It tasted like eating smoke alone with no other flavors. The interesting: You order at a counter but they'll bring the food to your table. We opted for dine-in but our food still came in styrofoam boxes.

What is this surcharge fee bullshit??????????? Not right! They didn't even give me any notice about it before I paid!

My friend is a regular here and brought me here for lunch yesterday, and I can see why she comes here so much! You order up front, they give you a number, and they bring it to your table. The food came out fast. I got the half order of the Chicken Kebob plate, which comes with 1 skewer. It comes with your choice of 2 sides, pita & choice of rice. I got the jasmine rice, and for the sides, I got the garden salad and the spicy hummus. The garden salad has a vinaigrette dressing on it. It was super tasty! The chicken was really tender. It came with a garlic sauce on the side. The portion was very generous. Would definitely get it again!

Food was decently nice as well. Cannot speak on service since I had take out, but the delivery was relatively simple and nice.

Got the chicken kabob wrap and a side of french fries. The fries were really crispy. The chicken was very tender. A good wrap.

I don't live in the South Bay anymore so it's been a while since I've been able to visit Mashawi Grill. Used to love coming to this one or the one on Inglewood Ave though! Was finally in the area so stopped in but wasn't as good as I remembered it. My favorite was the Mashawi salad. Expected the same dish to be more expensive than in the past but did not expect portion to be smaller too. Staff weren't very friendly and wasn't expecting dine in dishes to be served in to-go containers too.

It is a smallish window with covered patio seating. No indoor seating. Good for takeout or small groups. Plenty of parking. I've never really heard of Mexican Mediterranean fusion, but it kind of works. We ordered the family combo for lunch in hopes of feeding 5 dudes and 2 kids. Boy was there a lot of food and then some! Huge box of rice, another full of falafel, one for salad, one for sauces, and a random box of quesadillas. The meat was split between chicken and gyro, plus pita. Everything tasted great. The gyro was not classically shaved meat but more like cut burger patties but that wasn't exactly bad. There was plenty of food to take home for another meal or two. Will definitely be back, but next time will be more adventurous and try their fusion burritos or nachos

I wanted to follow up my very short review that I wrote about this restaurant over a decade ago as I have continued to frequent this restaurant and I have always enjoyed their food. What they offer here is a really nice selection of Mediterranean-based cuisine. They always use the best ingredients, and the food always arrives with a great presentation. Mostly, the food here tastes very-very good. And, isn't that the right reason you actually go to a restaurant in the first place? This is a family-owned and operated business. From this, you can really tell that everybody who works here really cares about the restaurant and the customers. Thus, it's always a great dining experience. Their menu offers a really nice selection of everything from gyro's to kebabs onto salads and the like. There's a really nice choice of both entrées and side dishes for you to choose from. The one thing I will say about this establishment, and this is certainly not a criticism, but whenever you eat here, they always keep the food coming. Whether it is the pita chips, the pita bread, the whatever, when you leave here you are going to be very-very full. This restaurant is located just off of Hawthorne Boulevard and a block from PCH. Thus, it's very easy to find. In terms of parking they have a parking lot over to one side of the building. You could always find a spot there. They also have a number of spots on the street, in front of the restaurant. This is where I always prefer to park. Easy in, easy out. Overall, if you're looking for some great Mediterranean-based food, this is the place to go. You will not be disappointed.

The menu also features traditional Pakistani, Persian, and Arabic dishes, such as Beef Nihari and Haleem. After several visits, here are my thoughts on some of their grilled meats and desserts. Beef Kofta - 3/5. The kofta was a bit dry and tough. I wish it had more fat and seasoning to make it juicier and more flavorful. The grilling is also somewhat inconsistent--sometimes the kofta comes out beautifully browned, while other times it's over-charred. Grilled Fish - 4/5. This is easily my favorite item on the menu and, in my opinion, their best dish. The fish is seasoned just enough to enhance its natural flavor without overpowering it. It's grilled very well, developing a beautiful golden-brown crust while remaining moist and tender inside. Beef Shish Kebab - 3.5/5. The quality of the beef is decent, especially considering the price. Given the cut of meat they use, they've done a commendable job with the grilling. The beef has a solid seasoning base and a nice sear with just enough char to add flavor without becoming overly smoky. It's reasonably tender, though I wish it retained a bit more juiciness. Chicken Shish Kebab - 3.5/5. Very similar to the beef shish kebab. It has good flavor and is grilled well, but it could benefit from being a little juicier. Gyro - 2/5. Unfortunately, this was the biggest disappointment. The gyro meat on the vertical spit often appears to be rotating without enough heat to properly caramelize and crisp the exterior. As a result, the meat comes across as dry, rubbery, and lacking the rich roasted flavor that makes a great gyro. Kunafa (Knafeh) - 3/5. This dessert has both strengths and weaknesses. The cheese filling has a pleasant, slightly salty flavor and a creamy texture, and I appreciate that it isn't overly sweet. However, the syrup is underwhelming. A good kunafa should be generously coated with a fragrant sugar syrup - ideally infused with rose water or orange blossom water - to provide sweetness and aroma. I also wish the kataifi, the shredded pastry dough, were crispier and lighter to create a better contrast with the gooey cheese filling. Overall, Al Hamra Kabob Grill is one of the better places to enjoy Middle Eastern-style grilled dishes in the South Bay. While a few menu items could be improved, the grilled fish stands out as excellent, and the shish kebabs are solid choices. The owner is also incredibly friendly and welcoming, creating a warm, neighborhood atmosphere that keeps customers coming back. It's not perfect, but it's a restaurant I enjoy visiting from time to time and one I'd recommend if you're craving grilled Middle Eastern flavors.
