I went to a different salon a month before and they did not give me the results I needed all the salons for a Japanese straightening are a little too far away for me and luckily, I found Kozo Hair Salon! Kozo (the owner) was the one doing my hair and his wife also does Japanese straightening as well. They both are so sweet and they mean business! My hair type is thick and coarse and it's like 3c type (mixed black hair). Kozo did tell me that because of my hair type he wasn't sure if it would get super straight but during the process, when I saw the product sit in my hair, I knew it was going to be good! The process came with a free trim. Coming in to getting this treatment done I knew there was gonna be damaged at the end so I didn't mind a trip plus I wanted to start fresh for my hair growth journey! The treatment was $400 and it took about five hours. I think it's totally worth it because now it cuts a lot of time out from getting ready in the morning and makes my hair more manageable! I will definitely be going back and I cannot recommend her enough for anyone with curls whether you are new to being a curly girl or a longterm curly veteran! I guarantee you will learn something from her! Longer version: I've followed various curly girl methods for over 20 years and have been getting curly hair cuts for just as long. If there is a wash/style/refresh method of doing hair or a curly product I have probably tried it at some point. That said, new things come out and I love learning so every few years I'll try a different stylist just to see if they teach me new techniques I don't know. Michelle blew me away! Not only did she give me a phenomenal hair cut with great layers but she showed me her techniques and products. I had been introduced to Innersense before and wasn't really blown away but Michelle did a great job explaining the products and why they are cleaner/easier to use with less heavy oils than some other curly products. In the past, I have gotten good curl definition but usually have pretty significant frizz by day 3-4 but with Michelle's methods I have almost no frizz or halo at day 5, despite still having decent volume and amazing definition. Not only that but I had to do a wash/style day during a work trip and only needed half the amount of product I previously used which is HUGE for me since I almost always travel with only carry-ons. The products really are cleaner/easier to use than anything I have tried. I have also always struggled with refreshing my curls between wash days, but she went over her technique with me and I am now able to refresh my hair easily without it coming out stringy/greasy or wet enough that I felt like I should just do another wash day. Plus she pointed out a line of damage from where I was always ponytails/pinappling my curls and so now I am being more intentional about changing up my implements for putting my hair up. Her attention to detail is phenomenal, and I love that she still attends continuous education to constantly improve herself. She is definitely my new stylist for the foreseeable future and I am so incredibly glad I decided to try her!

The price quote was higher than I expected. But even with her offering to charge less with the no bleach method. I ended up doing the full grey coverage, bleach, silver tone balayage. Warning it's not a bougie salon, and the chair is not comfortable to sit in for over 5 hours. It was my first time seeing her and I wanted to see what the results were. The bleach or grey coverage does sting a bit but Kim stepped out for lost of the time the color was developing. She's very nice and considerate and did a good job not staining my skin. She spent a lot of time explaining aftercare. Freshly made up hair in the salon looks nice and I was happy with the cut. Once I got home, I was impressed at how healthy my hair felt after the bleach. But I did notice the cut is a little more shaggy. Maybe because it was cut after it was blow dried. It's been almost 2 weeks and the silver tone has washed out a bit. The coloring still looks nice and I'll use some purple shampoo and conditioner like she suggested. I feel like I might have paid more than I should have, or maybe I just expected more.

After getting a really terrible haircut and color, the next morning I researched salons and looked at what felt like a 1000 pictures. It was obvious that Bellagio Salon could handle a serious color correction. I called and said, "I need help, I'm desperate--something horrible has happened to my hair." She said, "I'll squeeze you in." I arrived at a very inviting salon across from the Newport Beach Harbor--such an amazing location. I really didn't have to say much about what I wanted done--it was obvious. Blend the thick white stripes on top of my head and add highlights to the bottom where there were none. Use a toner to warm the strange ashy stripes. Under the stripes was a very strange dark color. Nothing about this hair color made any sense. It was shockingly bad. Mind you, I had a perfect canvas for the first hairstylist. My hair was very long and hadn't been colored in years. It's naturally a lighter brown and gets natural highlights. What I asked for from the stylist who messed up my hair: blunt layers, especially around the crown since it's heavy and weighs down my flat thin hair. What I got: about 7 inches cut (that was fine), but I still had long heavy hair on top. The layers were all on the bottom few inches of my hair! It made zero sense. It was uneven and had these little flippy pieces in the very front. Mahi said, "Don't worry, I'm not going to let you leave with wings." hahaha! I love her. I cannot believe Mahi was able to create a good haircut with the little hair I had left. My hair is at my shoulders now, and it has a style that actually makes sense. She cut the long pieces around my crown so now my hair has body and movement. The white stripes are blended and no longer look so ashy and grey. Mahi took so much time and care with me--it was very meaningful. She also used a lot of her products on me and was very generous. I'm also shocked that my hair is not fried having my hair colored two days on a row. I'm so grateful Mahi uses quality products at her salon. My hair is now soft! A lot softer when I left her salon compared to the day before when I left that other salon. I'm so grateful. Thank you for helping me, thank you for making me feel so safe in your chair.
