I'd been wanting pink hair for so long, and Kim made it even better than I imagined. I absolutely love the result!!!!! Also, as someone who has always been disappointed with my bangs, Kim completely changed that for me. She understood exactly what I wanted and gave me the perfect bangs. This is my very first Yelp review, so the fact that I chose this business to write a review already says a lot! Kim is an extremely talented hair artist who actually LISTENS to her client's requests. She will be very honest with you on whether or not she can actually achieve what you envision. She will make a game plan with you on what steps you can take to achieve your hair goals. In my case, I came to Kim with already bleached Level 6 hair and I wanted color that would require Level 9 hair. She was honest with me and created a plan to get me to my desired color within 2 visits in order to not risk further hair damage or hair fall out. I really appreciated that. She does a phenomenal job but will NEVER sacrifice the health of your hair in the process. There was another instance when I had an upcoming trip to Japan and I wasn't fully satisfied with the color I received in the salon. You know what Kim did? She squeezed me in for another appointment right before my trip and changed my color, free of charge. Kim is a one-of-a-kind artist who is not only passionate about her work, but she delivers exceptional customer service. She goes above and beyond to make sure you're satisfied and a returning customer. That is a rare quality nowadays. If you book an appointment with her, you can be sure that you are in good hands! Note: She has her own salon in Garden Grove now.
Went with highlight pink. Kim was awesome. Same day appointment for something that took hours. She stayed late, until like 10pm to do my hair. Kin bleached my hair to some platinum blond and we made it pink. She gave hair tips, shampooing tips, hair maintenance, and product recommendations. It's been a couple washes and a few weeks now and my hair looks like I just got back from the salon. Very very minimal hair damage from the bleach. Hair is very very soft and I have to really try to tell the difference between my dyed hair and my natural hair.
I get a perm annually so I can't balayage my hair with bleach. I was so glad to find Kim on Yelp and IG @hairbykimn! I started following her and her bleach-less balayages. What's even more amazing was the $300 promo which included my haircut and deep conditioning. Although the process took longer than a bleached balayage, the results were stunning! My hair feels so much healthier and I love the dimension I was able to get without bleach. Kim speaks perfect English (for those who are worried about a language barrier) and will give you the most honest feedback about your hair. I appreciated her product recommendation on Amazon and she doesn't try to upsell anything else. Kim tells you exactly what tone is achievable and what she cannot do. I had previously box dyed red hair and that's a hard color to work with. She's quick, but meticulous with her haircuts. Be patient with the process, the results are worth it!
Kim is my go to hairstylist for haircut, color, and styling. After trying so many different places im so glad I found her 2 years ago and have been trusting her with my hair ever since. Then I went to Kim a week later and she not only transformed my hair from 1 solid dark color to a sun kissed balayage and she kept it healthy and listened to what I asked for. Highly recommend!
Having just moved here recently, I was not familiar with hair stylists/colorists in the area and feel really fortunate to have found Kim! She was communicative immediately after I submitted my request to book and called to ensure that we were on the same page about my intent with color treatment, while also advocating about the importance of protecting the integrity of my hair afterwards too. I needed color correction from previous box dye and wanted peek-a-boo highlights as well, she exceeded my expectations! Her daughter was super sweet and helps Kim at the studio. I can tell that they have a really special connection, and they both want all the clients who walk in to feel comfortable and reassured through what may be a long hair process. They even made me a bowl of ramen :,) Kim was diligent and extremely detail oriented, and has had over a decade of experience under her belt. The quality of her work certainly attests to that. My experience with them felt like a second home, and I will definitely coming back for all of my hair needs!

A little background on my hair journey. Growing up, I wasn't allowed to dye or touch my hair but when I hit college, I started to bleach it like crazy (both at home and in the salon). To say the least, my hair went through a lot of trauma and, up until recently, it's length just never passed a certain point. It was breaking so much that I didn't even want to run a brush through it. Fast forward to May 2021 when I found Kim on instagram. I reached out to her and expressed my concerns. At this point, I had dyed my hair with box dye to a darker color but wanted that lighter color back with as little damage as possible. When Kim took a look at my hair, she was brutally honest in how damaged it was and what she could accomplish at this appointment, which I really appreciated. I left with my hair feeling great along with some tips to maintain and keep my hair as healthy as possible until our next appointment, which she suggested to be at least 6 months later. I made an appointment with her in Nov 2021 after following all her tips and there was a big difference in my hair. She was able to bleach it to an extremely light color with minimal damage and my hair just looked and felt phenomenal afterwards. Kim is definitely a perfectionist. We had finished bleaching, coloring and drying my hair but she noticed that the crown of my head wasn't as dark as I had wanted it so she went back in to get it to the color I wanted with no hesitation. I contacted Kim on a very short notice after trying to dye my own hair at home, before I came in my hair was very yellow & brown I was in need of an intense hair correction & Kim was more than happy to help me get my dream hair! Kim was amazing!! She was so quick to respond and schedule an appointment with me. You send her your current hair and your inspiration and she gives you a quote before scheduling the appointment. I honestly don't think anyone can beat her prices. On the day of my appointment, she talked me through the process and we actually changed the original plan. What I wanted was going to make her bleach my hair more and I didn't want that. So we were looking through some of her Instagram posts and found a color that I loved and wouldn't cause more damage to my hair. She's so conversational and funny, she also gives you advice on products to purchase for your hair as well. I will not be going anywhere else for my hair because Kim is the best!!!
After researching stylists in OC skilled at balayage and coloring, I decided to try Kim. My first appointment with her was in November 2022. It began with a thorough discussion of what I wanted to achieve, how much effort I was willing to put in to maintain it, and the effects various treatments would have on my hair quality. She asked insightful questions and provided detailed explanations of how bleaching and color worked, and the impacts they have on virgin vs. processed hair. Her consultation process (which is part of the appointment) helped me understand exactly what I wanted, and what kind of products and maintenance my choice would involve. I decided to "go grey." In order to do that, my virgin hair needed to be bleached--something I had never done. Kim was careful to explain to me that to preserve the health and integrity of my hair, it was best to bleach it in two stages. Otherwise, my hair would become damaged and not look good in the long run. I appreciated the fact that she was honest about the process and mindful of keeping my hair as healthy as possible. I appreciated her advice even more when later during that same appointment another woman walked in looking for help correcting a bleach job she'd had done at a different salon. That salon had lifted her hair way too much in one visit, and it looked orange, frizzy, and brittle. Kim explained to her that her hair needed to recover before being bleached again, and she thought of an alternative coloring approach that would make the woman's hair look good until then. Kim's team worked on my hair for 9 hours that day. They constantly checked on my hair as it was processing, and neutralized individual sections when it reached the appropriate lightness. In the end, after a single visit, I left with beautiful grey hair. I've never received so many compliments on my hair. Later, I got bored with the grey and decided I wanted to be ash blonde. Kim made it happen. Then I decided I wanted to be honey blonde with shadow roots. Kim made it happen. I follow her maintenance instructions, use the products she suggests, and my hair is in great shape! I highly recommend her to anyone wanting balayage, color, or a cut. She truly knows what she's doing.
Where do I start? My entire experience has been 5 stars. BOOKING THE APPT: I texted Kim to ask for an appointment availability & she was both responsive and accommodating. She asked for photos of my hair, what I wanted to achieve and shared an estimate cost. I respect this! DURING THE APPT: Kim took the time to look @ my inspo photos and assessed my hair to understand the strength, damage, color, & tailored her technique based on the condition of my hair. Both Kim & Snow did such a good job. I loved that she recommended products to me & explained the reason for each product. And these were links to other storefronts like Amazon or Ulta so I knew it wasn't a sales tactic & felt really comfortable. The process took ~7 hours but it was so worth it. Unlike other stylists, she colored ALL my hair, even underneath vs mainly the top. This added dimension. I was there for a whole day so the team even picked up food for me to eat AFTER THE APPT: I'm absolutely obsessed. I got the color AND my hair feels soft & healthier. This will be my wedding hair and no regrets that I went to Kim. I'd def come back.

My 11-year-old daughter wanted highlights for her very first salon experience, but I was a little worried about using bleach and potentially damaging her hair. But I never knew there was any other option. Kim recommended a no-bleach balayage, and it turned out to be the best decision! Her hair came out absolutely beautiful, natural, and exactly what we were hoping for. Beyond how talented she is, Kim made the entire experience so special. She made sure we were comfortable the whole time, offering us snacks and drinks, and was so kind and welcoming. She truly is a beautiful person inside and out. My daughter absolutely LOVES her hair, and I'm so grateful that her first haircut and highlights at a salon were such a wonderful experience. We couldn't have asked for anyone better. This is the first time someone sat down and thoroughly told me the price and everything that they will be doing to my hair before getting started. Kim was immediately available for the day that I selected which was really convenient for me. I drove all the way from San Diego and I would say that it was worth it because she is more affordable than most places. She is realistic with her prices and also styled my hair nicely afterward. She told me what products to use and also allowed me to know that my red hair does not need bleach as the other salon has used on me which is wonderful because it saves money and damage from treatment. Hands down amazing. I found Kim through her Instagram @hairbykimn and after scrolling through her work, I wanted to get in her chair. I texted her and she was able to get me in the same day. We looked through inspiration photos and Kim educated me about what I can do to keep my hair healthy and showed me products to use as well. She made sure I knew what I was getting into and that I would be comfortable with it. The color and cut could not have turned out any better! I've been wanting this color for years now and finally was able to achieve it with Kim. Thank you so much! Kim and her assistants were amazing. I just came to visit Kim's Salon today and my experience was more than I expected. She gave me advises on how to take care the hair after being bleached as well as how she put her enthusiasm in my hair. She is very kind and respectful. I LOVE CHI KIM! She's the SWEETEST ever!! Originally, I came to her for a color correction because another stylist fried my hair. Instead of her trying to take my money, she recommended that we try to restore the damage in my hair before going lighter. Ever since I went to her, I notice a difference in my hair and that it feels smoother and sleeker. SHE REALLY CARES FOR HER CLIENTS. I RECOMMEND HER TO ANYONE AND EVERYONE! come see Kim. Had the best experience with Kim and her work on my teen daughter's virgin hair today!! Teenagers are very finicky but Kim was so good with Ella! Kim is very personable and professional. She is also knowledgeable and particular about the health of your hair. This is so important to me. She was also very attentive with what Ella wanted and delivered beyond Ella's expectations. Kim also gave Ella great tips for taking care of her hair long term and suggestions on products to protect her hair. Words cannot describe how in love I am with my hair! This process took about 6months to get to this color because I initially boxed dyed my hair black and Kim explained to me very thoroughly how difficult it may be to go lighter. Nonetheless, we were able to achieve this color thanks to her tips and tricks on how to maintain and keep my hair healthy. Kim is very kind, responsive, and hospitable to her clients. I always look forward to seeing her because it feels like seeing a friend all the time! She works fast but precise, I notice that she still makes sure that everything is thoroughly applied. I really love how informative she is and how you can tell she really cares about the health of your hair first. If she tells you what to do with your hair to make/keep it healthy you do it!! The difference in the quality of my hair from the recent time I saw her and the time before that was noticeable enough for her to mention it. Following what she said for the last 2 months was what made it possible to go this light for me. I definitely found my forever hairstylist haha read more

I went to Kim after one year of grown hair during quarantine. She responded quickly to schedule a time and estimated pricing with my current hair & inspiration picture. When I moved to SoCal, I was on a hunt to find a hair stylist that knew how to work naturally dark, thin, Asian hair. My hair was brittle, dull, and dried from showering daily. I was looking for someone that could bring my hair to life! I went through countless Instagrams and Yelp pages trying to find the perfect person for a reasonable rate... Then I found Kim! The first time, I was very nervous about having someone new touch my hair. We first talked about my hair habits and when I showed her my silvery, ashy, "end goal" photo, she honestly told me, "based on your habits, you would not be a good candidate for blonde." It was a wake up call for me to take care of my hair! Kim took the time to explain the stages of hair lightening... The purpose of toning, etc. She gave me all the directions to "train my hair," what products to use for what purpose, and how to extend the color. She's very passionate about her work and very honest too. The first time I came, I knew she truly cared about my hair integrity because she was pushing products that she was not selling at the salon. I became really determined to achieve that ash blonde, so after the first session, I did EVERYTHING she said-- My hair has never looked healthier and felt stronger! My hair fades perfectly and everything is blended well months after the visits. I've now seen her four times and have another two scheduled. I show her the same inspiration photo since day 1 and tell her to do what it takes to get me there! When it's time to update my color, I literally tell her "I trust you, do whatever you want." I did not just pay for my hair, lessons on hair and a "big sister." Seriously love her. I cannot recommend her enough! read more

Kim is amazing!! The absolute sweetest and super talented. I hadn't gotten my hair done in about a year and it was a long, tangled, brassy mess and she solved all my problems. I asked for an ashy brown balayage look but didn't want to damage my hair, and she delivered! The color is incredibly close to what I had asked for (just a tad bit darker since I wanted to avoid damage/brassiness). My hair also feels so so soft and refreshed!! Kim is also really personable and friendly, and I enjoyed chatting with her and getting to know her. We watched an episode of a Vietnamese show together, and she really tried her best to keep me entertained through my hours of getting my hair done!! Her studio space is fairly small but she works really efficiently and quickly with what she's got. She's also very meticulous and pays a lot of attention to details, which is an absolute must for a hair specialist! Her prices are very reasonable. WOW! After years of searching I finally found my hair guru! My friend referred me to Kim and she's AMAZING !!! I love the color. She took the time to explain to me about my hair and how to take care of it after bleach/dye job. My past hair cuts were always the same...no style or flair but a trim on the bottom and angled on the sides. My daughter also got her hair cut by Kim.
