I am very happy we ended up coming here because it was delicious! We ordered 2 types of Pierogi, the first being the onion, cheese, and potato and the second being the cabbage. The chef puts it on your plate for you. For my main I ordered the pork loin with red beets. It didn't really seem like a Polish dish, but it was very good. I had it with a Polish beer. Service was also good and overall seemed like a Polish a fine dining establishment. Apparently there is a bit of history to Daquise too and has been open since 1947. I enjoyed my visit and would definitely recommend!

We shared several dishes: Ruskie dumplings (cheese, potato, and onion); marinated herring with apple and creamed onion; pan-fried fillet of cod with horseradish sauce and sauteed spinach; and beef goulash with brandy served with buckwheat. Everything was delicious - but the dish of the night was the cod - I'd eat that weekly. They sadly weren't able to make me a martini (they couldn't have been out of vodka, so I assumed they had run out of vermouth?), but I had a nice glass of Polish wine, while my husband had some Polish beer. The restaurant is charming - understated and comfortable and well-lit. The service wasn't the most welcoming (our server was fairly friendly, but the hostess was not), but it was still a very nice dinner. It's a great place for a meal if you're looking for a place with history and great food! Polish was a great change of pace from our other meals!

Concise menu of all-sorts egg dishes, salads, coffees, desserts, wines, etc. They were willing to customize my dish - big plus. Friendly service with a smile. Eggs were perfectly cooked, and sides were well seasoned. Uncomplicated plating. Place was relatively clean. What irked me was the second hand smoke: the cigarette smoke wafting in from the side walk seating area through the open door... Upon mentioning it the waitress didn't look bothered, and simply asked if she should bring me aubergine on the side. This was my first experience with Turkish food, and that's one thing I enjoy about London is the wide variety of international dining. We started off with some of the freshest pita I've had, accompanied by a humongous bowl of creamy tzatziki sauce. For the app, the family shared a Karisik meze cold appetizer sampler. Our entrees were centered on doner (lamb). We had the Yaprak Doner (shredded lamb served with rice), Betyi (seasoned spicy lamb served on a skewer on top of pita and served with fresh vegetables), and mixed doner (shredded chicken and lamb). With all 3 dishes, the meat was fresh, moist, and delicious. The server was very friendly and accomodating (I think he was smitten with my daughter, but in a nice way). I'd also mention that, across the street, Likya also had a smaller branch, more of a bakery. They have a lady who before your eyes, prepares gozleme from scratch at a preparation station. I tried the one with cheese and spinach and it was delicious. For my Miami peeps, I'd equate a gozleme with an empanada. We were stuffed, but we also got excellent chocolate baklava to go back to the apartment with. All in all, I enjoyed my Turkish dining experience with Likya!

A Night to Forget at Princess of India - Disrespect, Neglect & Disgrace:…read more I have dined at many restaurants, but never have I experienced such blatant disregard as I did at Princess of India in Morden, London. If this is how they treat their guests, I can only hope the real princesses of India showed more grace than the so-called hospitality here. The restaurant had only three groups - a party of eight, two friends at another table, and us. And yet, despite the light crowd, we were treated as if we were invisible. No welcome, no warmth, no service. The waiter passed by us repeatedly, without so much as a glance, while tending to the other tables. Was it exhaustion? Indifference? Or something far uglier--blatant discrimination? The middle-aged, fair-skinned manager (who looked more suited for the gym than the hospitality industry) barely acknowledged our presence. He never visited our table, never asked if we needed anything, and at the end he did but when we left, he didn't even muster a simple 'thank you' or 'goodnight'--basic courtesies in any decent restaurant. To make matters worse, tables were left unclean, staff were more interested in wiping glasses and bowls and disappearing into the kitchen than actually tending to guests. It made me wonder: if they can treat us this way, what would they do to the citizens of this country? Look, I understand hospitality is demanding. Long hours, constant service--but this was just a buffet. All they had to do was clear plates and check in on customers, yet even that seemed too much to ask. Respect should be given to all, regardless of nationality or race. What we experienced was beyond disappointing--it was insulting. This was, without a doubt, the worst night we've had at a restaurant, and I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. If you value basic human decency, avoid this place. They do desserts, but you wont have any room left. You are asked by Taz the owner and his team if you want poppadoms when you arrive, these are great if your waiting for friends to join, but these are not inclusive of the buffet fee. The drinks are good here too with Carlsberg at below £2 per pint and Cobra on Draught. Update: Since Zest…read morehas gone meaty it's definitely improved. Had the roast dinner today for lunch and it was great, service was fab as well - although that could have also been down to the very few other tables. Would now recommend. -------- 2/5 Since opening, Zest has marketed itself as an alternative to the other kosher restaurants - implying it serves modern, exciting kosher food in the style popularised by Yotam Ottolenghi. This influence is definitely on show with the food, with brunch featuring twists on classics such as shakshuka and scrambled eggs - different? yes; delicious? yes; special? not in my opinion. Where Zest really falls down is service. From waiting over 5 minutes to be told there was a wait of around 5 min to be seated, to the waiter completely not hearing our order and needing us to repeat it, to his brash outlining of the bottomless brunch rules (which he then excused by saying he wasn't being rude!), to the chefs looking exasperated at the lack of service - it was all very Fawley Towers! I think this was my 5th and final visit (out of choice that is!) - it's always been the same!

The menu (kosher dairy) is vegetarian and fish, with strong Middle Eastern/Mediterranean influences thanks to Algerian-Strian-Israeli chef Eran Tibi, who worked with Ottolenghi a few years ago. (Tibi's family has owned restaurants for generations.) Plus, this place has the most attractive waitstaff. It was hard to decide what to order, but I finally settled on the Sephardic ratatouille (with aubergines, courgettes, sunflower seeds, and a single roast cherry tomato) and sweet potato gnocchi. The ratatouille was great but very small. However, the gnocchi was fantastic. The gnocchi were pan-seared and piled on a bed of sort-of baba ghanoush, with yogurt drizzles and pomegranate seeds, surrounded by a smattering of crispy fried onion pieces. It was absolutely amazing. Meanwhile, I saw some of the soup of the day (sweet potato and bok choy) being served, and had to order some. The bok choy added just a necessary hint of sourness to the sweetness of the soup; it's served with slices of toasted challah. I need to go back and try everything else on the menu. My only complaint is that everything is pretty expensive for the size, but you always pay more for kosher, organic, seasonal, and made with this much expertise.
