Surprisingly there isn't many Indian options in the area. However this place hit the spot for my craving. The portions were big and my meal was satisfying. I didn't give it 5 stars because the food was a little heavy for me. The pakoras were too greasy, and they Chana Saag used a lot of cream. I think that's traditional in Pakistani cuisine though. I've yet to find a actual dish that I would consider liking to the point that I can truly say I like Indian cuisine. I always find the spices to be just that "spices" The taste never really balances out for me. I find the chicken dishes to be really dry even though it's in a sauce like it's been stewed in it. Why only 4 stars?? This has been our go to Indian takeout spot. We've ordered a bunch from here (at least 20 times) and it has always been delicious. We ordered on a Saturday night and maybe they were overwhelmed but things were not as good as usual and now I'm afraid to order again. Chicken tikka masala and naan great always good the tikka masala sauce is awesome. We also had samosas and chicken 65. The samosas were blonde not the usual golden brown - super under cooked :( which stinks because they are usually sooooo good. The chicken 65 was a tragedy it was chicken shavings, dry little bits of chicken, we used to get chunks of chicken this was a disaster. We are pretty particular about Pakistani and Indian restaurants. Most fail on the food and service fronts. To our welcome surprise, Masala delivers excellent customer service and food that far exceeds expectations. We ordered online and shortly received a call that bone in chicken karahi and nehari are only available in the evening so they made some substitutions. The overall winner was the Samosa chaat, great flavor and the addition of crispy strips of fried pastry put it over the top. The Haleem was an excellent blend of lentils and chicken with just the right texture. Chili chicken was a kid favorite. Chicken biryani was solid and the chicken chapli kebabs were really good. I was actually surprised to find the goat karahi to be very tender. I was not a huge fan of the chicken karahi, but perhaps it is better bone in. Overall, excellent food and great customer service. We were impressed and hope they get some traffic to help them stick around long term. Looking forward to trying out more of the menu next time. read more

The vegetarian samosas, handmade flaky turnovers stuffed with perfectly seasoned potatoes and fresh peas, were delicious. The vegetarian pakora and alu tikki-both lightly deep fried in an amazing chick pea batter-are meant to be savored. Although the cilantro dipping sauce was a bit flat, the tamarind dipping sauce was perfectly balanced & full of flavor. The house made garlic naan was baked to perfection in an in-house clay oven & lightly sprinkled with fresh cilantro. Amazing. The lamb vindalo, a wonderful hearty stew-like dish with tender potatoes and a perfect balance of spices, is labelled "hot" on the menu. However, the chef is happy to prepare it to your liking from mild to hot. The goat curry, simmered on the bone in a thick, rich onion sauce, had a bit of a gamey taste yet tender and perfectly balanced when eaten with the light basmati rice served on the side. What truly sets Masala apart is the genuine pride they take in their heritage and in their cuisine. This was obvious in the conversations we have had with the chef each time we have dined at Masala. Delicious rustic meals served family-style. Wonderful aromas coming from the kitchen. Excellent hospitality that is a welcome change from the hustle & bustle of local chain restaurants. I ordered Masala through the Yelp app- which I love because it goes through all the food delivery apps for me and I don't need to create an account for all the different services. We ordered online- masalas full menu was online and the set up was simple and easy. I'm not super familiar with Indian/ Pakistani food and there was limited pictures on the menu. I'd love to see more pictures of the food to help me decide next time. The food came on time and the Yelp app showed us where our food was during every step of the delivery! The food came to us and was still warm which is always a plus with delivery! I had the garlic cilantro naan which had a little more crisp than I usually like but the flavor was delicious! Super garlicky- which is one of my favorite flavors. I also ordered the goat Korma- I loveddd this. The stewed meat was tender and fell right off the bone. Amazing food! One of the best I've had out here so far. We had Tandoori Chicken and Chicken Tikka, which are some of my favorite dishes from Indian cuisines and are also very popular dishes. The chicken wasn't dry and it was absolutely delicious. We also had basmati rice, which was hot and herb-y, my favorite. Everything went very well together. Masala is my favorite restaurant in Warwick..so far. One thing I was confused about was when they asked me how spicy I wanted the food, I told them to make it spicy and the food didn't come out spicy at all. Not sure if that was their top level spiciness or if my fiance gave them a panicked look--but the food was not spicy. My friend, when I say spicy, I do not mean 'extra pepper', haha! Lastly, we did try the honey ginger naan and it was good, it just wasn't my speed. I did eat it after dinner because when I tasted the naan, it felt to me like a dessert bread or something you eat in-between courses. I guess that I am more traditional (you can say boring) when it comes to naan. Next time, I'll probably stick to plain, garlic or chicken naan. That being said, the spices and naan issues did not overshadow the flavor of the food and the overall eating experience. We've been watching this location for months, waiting for the "Coming Soon" sign to turn into an "Open" sign, and this was our lucky week! We have family who were able to try it out before we did, and they gave us information on the buffet. So we came shortly after opening on a Sunday (four adult friends, two children) to try the buffet. There were a few things that made this buffet special. Firstly, they make the naan fresh and bring it to the table, rather than letting it get tired and tough on a warming tray with the other buffet foods. They provided both plain and garlic naan (which was amazingly flavored). The waitress also brought some pakoras for the table. The buffet had a number of different types of foods- some goat (on and off the bone), some with chicken, and some vegetarian, with rice. My husband and I thought we'd taken reasonably small portions to try a little of everything but left in a food coma that hadn't worn off by dinnertime. I didn't realize that there was also fresh chai in a carafe at the start of the buffet- I was just too stuffed for it by the time I knew it was there, which is a shame. My husband had some and enjoyed it. The buffet is just $10 for adults and $5 for children (plus beverages) and we felt like we'd gotten more than our money's worth, with the variety of dishes, flavors, and spice levels. read more

I had a great experience with this restaurant through Grubhub. The food was hot, fresh, tasty, authentic and I would totally order from this restaurant again. I ordered the side salad which was phenomenal it had Romain lettuce and spinach, carrots, tomatoes, onion, cashews and dried raisins. Fantastic. Very good food. I went with 2 friends and we decided to all get something different so we could try them all. The samosas were delicious and the accompanied sauces were delicious. The garlic naan was a perfect thing to help us with the chicken saag, mango chicken and malle kofta and the rice to go with it all. The service was fabulous...kudos to the brother of the owner as he was charming and thoughtful throughout our time there. I also brought home a mullagatawny soup, one of my favorites and yet hard to find, and it was perfect, both hot and cold. I had a couple of spoonfuls for breakfast and could hardly wait for lunch. Personally the food was Ok just not my thing I guess not bad though AT ALL but I did not like how the Chicken Biryani had hard pieces in it which I'm pretty sure were the herbs but otherwise I thought the Chicken was super good especially texture wise. Now my Mother she LOVED it literally everything she loved the only thing she said was she wished the Chicken was more soft. Oh man, I need to stay away from here! I always try to eat healthy lunches during the week, but I decided to go against my better judgment and try this new place out. I bought the chicken tikki masala and it was delicious...huge hunks of white meat chicken in a flavorful sauce along with a huge amount of rice. I put half the rice aside to throw out, but I ended up eating that too as I dumped it into the remaining sauce and chowed down. I also ordered some naan bread and it was fantastic. I felt like sleeping right after my meal which didn't make for a productive afternoon. They also offer a lunch buffet that I tried and again, it was excellent. When you sit down they serve fresh hot naan at the table and then you can load up on the buffet offerings. What a great new restaurant! read more

As I walked in, I enjoyed the ambience of the art, the nicely maintained restaurant, as well as the smell of delicious food. The staff was very professional and helpful, and courteous. Finally! This new restaurant crept up on me since it opened while i was on maternity leave but Indian is my FAVORITE (well i have a lot of favorites but still) and I am so happy to not have to drive to providence for this... its 2 minutes down the road from my job! I treated myself to lunch and discovered this goodness. Service was amazing, we got to talking about the complimentary chai tea that i love so much. Chicken tikka masala was ON POINT. as were the rest of the dishes i tried during the lunch buffet, i wont name them and butcher the name but they have a great selection. I was starving so i went right when it opened and everything was hot and ready to eat. We had to make an unexpected trip over to Warwick and hopped on Google to look for a place to order some takeout to bring home on the way back. Masala came up and since Indian cuisine is our favorite we decided to give it a shot because they offered mobile ordering which makes things very easy. We placed our mobile order and it said pick up time was 20 minutes later so we arrived on time to pick it up. The restaurant itself is a hole-in-the-wall and was almost completely empty. I could hear a computer notifying all these new mobile orders coming in so I think a lot of people were ordering take-out to keep them busy cooking in the back. Unfortunately I had to sit there waiting an additional 30 minutes after my food was supposed to be ready. They apologized and said it was because my order was large (not really, a few appetizers, some rice, naan and 2 entrees so we could have leftovers for the weekend). I was pretty annoyed, but this was totally made up for by the unbelievable food! If you are a fan of Indian food you absolutely need to check out Masala. We have eaten at almost every Indian restaurant in RI and Masala was our favorite (probably my favorite Indian food EVER). The food was spiced differently than other places we typically order from and it was simply amazing and unique. Every single thing we ordered was excellent. This is our new favorite place to eat, even if we have to drive 30 minutes to get there. They can keep taking our money, and bringing out our food late if they keep making such awesome food! We tried Masala's new Warwick location which is located at the end of a small 4 unit strip mall. I'm recovering from major foot surgery and must keep my foot off ground. Ive become quite proficient at using a knee scooter . Handicap access was my first concern. The concrete incline was located at the far end of the "mall". The "ramp" was not only steep but was complicated wit a turn into another inclined area at a different angle. The "ramp" started at parking lot which was also steep in that area. There was also a deep rut where both met.I negotiated this adversarial element without incident. The restaurant was busy and we were served right away. The food was very good and the portions were hearty. I asked for "mild" and the chicken dish was prepared just right . The waitress checked on the meal and we noted that we were pleased with the preparation. All in all, a good experience.. Critical observations: one young male waitstaff individual was dressed sloppily with a hoodie.. another had a ball cap on that did not look well in a restaurant setting.. Recommend: black shirts and pants for waitstaff .. The silverware and plates felt "cheap". Recommend: upgrade as profits permit.. The metal dish the chicken was served in was hot and the waitress should of for-warned us. We left gastronomically satisfied. With plenty for lunch tomorrow... We may use them for takeout but doubt that we will go back for dining inside.. The outside was poorly lit when we left and the trip down the double inclined ramp was precarious at best.. advice: avoid at all costs if you happen to be using a knee scooter .. food 4 star, service 4 star ambiance 2 stars. eat here if you have to have fresh food perfectly cooked, lovely service, and lovely music. it's hard to find momo around here, & so I get the chicken momos every time. the chutney served with this is so tasty I could eat it alone. likewise, the Samosas and sauces are a must have, as is the mango lassi. everyone else seems to love it to. never had an entree that I didn't love. another nice touch was customized Rogan Josh-couldn't decide between lamb or goat, so cook made combo: I'm now hooked. naans are always delicious, & mulligatawny soup is delicious way to get veggies, like medicine on cold raw days. Just as good as it was in Providence! It's new location is a little bit off the main drag in W. Warwick, near the Social Security Building, but I hope word-of-mouth and former fans keep it full and busy. We had our favorite kick-butt lamb and goat karahi, full of flavor, with an awesome sauce (really!), and cleaned the service bowl with whatever rice and scraps of naan we had left. Also had a good and spicy chili chicken, a novel Indo-chinese fusion dish that you don't often see around here - highly recommended (but be sure to have some raita on hand to douse the fire) and some solid curried shrimp. Their naan was crispy and smoky, not oily, and very savory - I could eat that alone with just some raita and mango pickles! Definitely one Pakistani/Indian restaurant to keep on one's short list. First time ordering, got the Tandoori Fish, Chicken Tiki Masala, and Chicken Korma, an order of cheese naan and order of garlic naan and the two orders Cauliflower 35. 1) Very small portions for the price point. 2) Does not come with rice as stated on online ordering site. 3) Missing a naan and one of the orders of cauliflower- place was empty this should not have happened. 4) Food was good, but not good enough to quantify the cost for $16 to $17 plates they serve in small 8 oz. deli sized plastic containers.
