One person doing take out orders and helping dine in guests. I ordered take out. Fried rice, naan & fried cauliflower. They had about 10 people seated (2 tables). Both tables had naan come out before any of my food. 45 min later im told maybe another 10 min. Nope, refund. Another table walked out becasue they were waiting to even be served. I have been ordering takeout from this place but they have the worst in house experience I have ever had. Me and my husband went here for lunch. The person who seated us was polite and soft spoken. Everything was going great. I was planning on bringing my various group of friends because it looked like they were trying to do a good job. Then all of a sudden everything changed. A couple came and they were probably curious about Indian food/place since they were not Indians. I get that. It's cute. But this guy who doesn't work in the kitchen and is soft spoken got so excited to see them he forgot to even serve us the water. He kept on attending them while we waited to order.They were helped with their order and after that he decided to get us our waters. It was already around 20 minutes since all this was happening. There were all kinds of staff roaming around in the restaurant but no one bothered to attend us in case he got busy. Then to add to our insults their order came first,while looking at their body language it was clear they did not mind waiting which would have been fair since we were their first. They served us the soup which was only for my husband. We couldn't share it and the greeter guy was very well aware of that since my husband has a medical condition. My order never came out. I decided to go and check since we were getting late for somewhere else. The guy refused to take responsibility and sent the cook to talk to me and he was super rude to me. I made sure to ask the employees come out of the employee area before I started talking but this THUG of a man kept on threatening me and asked me to GET OUT. Then he realised what he has said and started asking me to leave the employee area while I was not even in it. I had to show him the board that I am not in the employee area and I need to talk to the person who took my order. When there was no way left he finally came out and pretended like how sorry he was. I told him that my husband's soup has already turned cold while I have been waiting for my item for around 30 mins now. In his defense he wanted me to understand that the other couples order was a pick up order ( which they placed in front of me) and for my order the batter was not ready or the griddle was not ready. It's been more than half an hour. I couldn't understand why would the griddle not be ready. You should start heating it the moment the order came in. What kind of griddle takes half an hour to heat? It was a simple crepe. No complicated food item I ordered that could have taken that much time. This was an insulting experience. A guest should be a guest and should be served on first come basis not on the basis of their ethnicities.When someone dines outside they should be able to dine together not one by one. It seemed to me that they are targeting a specific population and not interested in people who would actually appreciate their food and probably end up bringing more clientele. This is a weak place in my opinion. People are either cowards or lazy and the worst they threaten their customers when they are faced with an issue. I would not recommend this place to anyone for any reasons and major reason is the security issue. read more

I've been coming to this restaurant for years since before it changed names. Went today for my usual shrimp tikka masala and naan and paid $30 for sauce with 3 microscopic shrimp! I was actually calling them to tell them they forgot the shrimp with I find the tiniest piece of shrimp (smaller than a penny!) Please bring back the jumbo shrimp that used to come with this order! The food was okay, but the flavors were different from what you'd typically expect at a similar restaurant. There was only one staff member working the entire restaurant, which seemed overwhelming. The employees were dressed very casually (pajama-like attire), which came across as unprofessional. The restaurant appears to be fairly new, and there is still quite a bit of unfinished décor that needs attention. Also, be aware that the green chutney contains dairy for those who are avoiding it. My favorite is the Onion Rava Masala Dosa and Malai Mattar Paneer! I love dosas so I'll definitely be a regular for the dosa!

The food was good as ever. The service was great and we had brought friends who had not experienced the good Indian food in Ontario.

New dosa place in the IE! We have been loyal Udupi customers for years and have longed for good dosa in the IE. We had the masala dosa and also a butter chicken dosa at Masala District today and both were delicious. Butter chicken dosa wasn't on the menu but they accommodated our request and it was perfection, 15/10. The service was actually very authentic Indian, super casual but warm. Anyone who's been in a restaurant in India will feel right at home. Decor is fun and unique murals of India. We will definitely be back. read more

Completely different restaurant. I don't why they changed it from Mantra. Seems like new ownership and definitely new cooks. The food was good but not like before. The chicken tikka masala was sort of blend. The rice didn't hit the same and the naan bread didn't taste as good like before. The service was okay. I was searching around for lunch spots and noticed this place recently opened or took over an old spot. I love love love Hyderabad Biryani and cannot find a spot in the I.E. that does it right until I tried Masala District. They make Dum Biryani the right way, it was steamed the rice pieces all soft and separated, the spices and everything were not mixed or stirred in a pot like fried rice in other places I've tried that call it "Biryani". At Masala District, the taste of the rice, spices and fall apart tender chicken were incredible. I no longer have to go to Artesia or Irvine for my Biryani as this place is much closer. I will totally be back and will try everything else on their menu especially the Vijayawada biryani. read more

So I went here once before and the service and food was great! Today was a completely opposite experience. The service was horrible, they only had one guy serving and he took forever to ask us for our order. We wanted the tandoori platter and he said it wasn't available. I ordered samosas as an appetizer but waited 15 mins and they still didn't come out. So we decided to just cancel and leave. It's unfortunate because we were really looking forward to eating here. I'm sorry but I don't understand why they changed this place from Mantra Indian cuisine and when I walked in I asked them if its the same place as Mantra and whoever I spoke to lied and said it is & that they only added a few noodles but everything is completely different. The wait staff were nice but please just be honest next time and let people know it's a completely different restaurant than it once was and finding out after we got our dishes was pretty disappointing. read more

I walked in around 2pm today and was immediately seated and given a menu. At 2:15, a waitress came to my table and asked if I was ready to place an order. I had my choices between 2 different pages. I am not Indian and cannot pretend to pronounce the dishes correctly. When I said "the one I wanted was something with Goan" and as I was running my finger on the curries down to the one I wanted, she snapped "can you make it quick? Because I have other tables to get to." I told her "yes, I'll make it quick," closed the menu and walked out. What was that snapping for?! Terrible customer service. And the restaurant was empty! Only a few families and a couple that walked in after me. More than half the tables in the restaurant were empty. In N Out and other fast food chains won't snap at you and they're fast food.
