Tacos El Mike - My wife's tripas

After…read morepicking up my grandson and his buddy I was taking a short cut home through a warehousee part of Jurupa Valley. There on Philadelphia just east of Etiwanda was the familiar night time glow of a food truck. "I want Tacos" meant I would have to risk life and limb fighting off hoodlums to satisfy my wife's craving. The only lighting was the faint glow of the street lights and a haphazardly hung string of lights from the truck. I scoped out the place and gave the family the all clear. My wife had the tripas tacos I ordered a asada quesadilla and my grandson ordered asada tacos. His buddy didn't want anything. My wife's tripas came out first. That sounded weird. Then my quesadilla and the tacos. Of course there was a selection of salsa's which I found hot my wife said they were not. She's a hard core paisa that's why. No place to sit as with all good food trucks so you find a nearby bumper or truck bed. The food was fantastic. In talking to the cashier I found out they are from Sinaloa where my family originated. Nice! We headed back to the car. Always vigilant for unsavory types but all was good and safe. Track down Tacos el Mike I'm pretty sure they have an Instagram. Friday nights on Philadelphia just east of Etiwanda go get some Sinaloa Style food. It's worth the trip.

I was about to order the ribs but wanted something a lil different & decided to give the brisket nachos a try!! And DAMN am I glad that I did!! After placing my order(I was advised to get the small by the really sweet woman who took my order) because she said it would feed 2. I paid, waited and when I picked up my nachos, my eyes popped outta my head. My plate looked like it could feed 4 not two!!!! AND it was heavy!!! When I finally got back to my seat(after being stopped several times to point to where I gotten my food)I dug into what I can only describe as the absolute BEST brisket nachos that I have EVER had in my life! I thought I'd died & gone to food heaven! Let me tell you....the meat was flavorful & tender & plentiful! And it was just the right(not skimpy)amount of toppings which were layered all throughout the chips to the bottom of my plate & not just "on top!" And you could tell that the beans, cheese, & cilantro....were all FRESH! This was my 4th time attending this festival(I'll be back next year) & I'm praying that S&E's Food Team will be back as well cuz I'm DEFINITELY grabbing me another plate of their scrumptious nachos!! (but I think I'll get the pulled pork next time!!)

So, tonight, after noticing the colorful, digital sign that bragged of Papas rellenos, etc, it finally called for action. We stopped. It's a typical Taco truck. No bells, no whistles. Cabeza, asada, Pollo, lengua, al pastor (with a real trompo), chorizo, and tripe, meats that come in all the typical shapes and presentations that taco trucks are known for. There is a small folding table on one side stocked with traditional condiments and salsas, including a big hot pot of frijoles de la olla and another with cooked onions, green chiles, and nopales. Help yourself. The mini cups and plastic bags are laying nearby on a shelf to haul some away. As for the salsas, if you have an adventurous spirit and iron clad stomach, go for the 4 kinds of obviously house-made salsas and pico de gallo. Otherwise, if you are a wimp like me, dont. I timidly tasted most of them. Yikes! I would more likely have expected them to be used as an alternative rocket fuel. These are wickedly hot! So, you've been warned. We only tried the cabeza (beef cheek) and the asada. Unfortunately, the cabeza torta did not thrill Mr. B at all, but my $5 asada mulita turned out to be darn good, even though the tortillas they use were on the small side. Very tender with great grilled flavor. I would get that asada in a heartbeat. And peeking back at me through the kitchen window was that fully loaded trompo. Simply said, this sighting is a call to action for an al pastor test on our second visit. As for seating, there was one picnic table, possibly two. Plan on other options. I found the experience to be fun. The best part was meeting some of their friendly, loyal customers who went out of their way to tell us this truck was the best! I'm keeping my options open, but the asada was a winner.

Their pastor is so good. Very good food and cheap prices. Good to feed the whole familyread more
