The food here was good, nothing extremely special though. The nigiri was tasty but the fish lacked flavor. I had the yellow tail and the toro. Yet the sushi was fresh and sat well. Maybe all nights are not like this and if I lived close, I'd give it another try. It took forever to get our food. At least an hour. The appetizers were pretty delicious. The meal that followed was just so so. I think it is hard to know what to order when the menu is so large but taste should not be compromised in any dish. My dinner was bland. Masa gets two stars only because it's nicely decorated, peaceful, and at least tries to put on the facade of upscale dining. We've only been here once for sushi and that was enough. It was overpriced. We normally spend about $70 for appetizers and sushi and leave with leftovers. Here, we didn't even get appetizers and left with nothing. The rolls have sprouts and strange things stuck into them in some failed effort at fusion cuisine. Chefs were really slow at making the sushi. read more

Just got back from dinner here and always haves a good time at Masa. The quality is decent but I have to say their specialty rolls aren't the best in the area but definitely not bad. The best way to go is Tuna Tuesdays. They have a menu of quite a few tuna rolls and appetizers to chose from ranging from 4-8 dollars each. My friend and I go almost every tuesdays and load up on the crunchy tuna roll, tuna lover roll, tuna tar tar, and the tuna sashimi. Since sushi is usually a more pricey dinner, this is great because you spend about half the price you usually would. Definitely a fan! read more

Good food, good service but for the second time in a month the bartender thinks customers are idiots. About 3 weeks ago I ordered a gin and tonic. It was severed flat. Sent it back and second one was flat. I went personally to the bar and was told a problem with their machine so gave up. Today a person at the table ordered a gin and tonic and I asked for just tonic and explained my last experience. I've been to this place three times since moving here for school, and it has been mediocre, at best, every time. I am not saying that in a condescending tone, either, but just relative to other sushi places I've been too, it is a middle of the road establishment. Two of the times I was there, the wait for the dishes was significant, around 40 minutes, and the waitstaff was overtly snobby. They could've been having a bad day, or not feeling well, but if I am shelling out 100$- dollars for a dinner date, they could attempt to muster, or feign, being polite to their costumers. On the flip-side, all of the appetizers I have ordered were delicious, and their curry, which I tend to not like, was great. Their sushi was just not what I would want for the coin that it cost. I grew up in Tallahassee and now libe in San Francisco. I will admit that I'm a bit snobby about sushi. Regardless, for the 300 people dining at Masa on what is probably the worst sushi I have ever eaten, I'm truly sorry if this is the only option in tally, I don't know what other sushi there is here nowadays. This place was a total cluster, trying to serve every type of Asian cuiaine and doing it all terribly. In all honesty probably the most laughable meal I've had in the last decade. I was a little hesitant to try Masa after reading mixed reviews. I'm SO GLAD we did! The food was delicious -- Asian with a fresh twist. We had tofu with Bok Choy and Crispy Mango Beef. AMAZING. When it comes to Masa, you can rest assured that you will get consistently good sushi. Their lunch sushi special (2 rolls for $12) is the main reason I come here and they are well worth the visit. The dinner prices, as with many sushi restaurants, are out of my range though. The service is friendly and their is more than enough space for large or small groups. After hearing so many good things about MASA I decided to try it out myself I was not impressed my food order wasn't what I expected it to be I ordered The lunmp meat crab and cheese Ragoon, There was no lump meat crab in it at all just cream cheese for the main course mongolian chicken and I was supposed to have fried rice but the rice was plain covered in soy sauce. Food was INCREDIBLE! I came for Valentine's Day so it was super busy but the server was incredibly communicative even through having to serve so many tables. We were taken very good care of! We had the Shanghai Shrimp and tempura green beans as apps, spicy salmon sushi, and the honey walnut shrimp and Thai coconut curry as our entrees and thoroughly enjoyed it all! The portions were great! We both had plenty to take home. I'm now back in Boston and dreaming and salivating over the Thai Coconut Curry. I will say though that the fried rice was only okay. Had a very fun dinner here with my hubby, his bro, and his bro's lovely fiancee. The sushi rolls were very yummy, we had a mango/tuna salad that was spicily fantastic (it doesn't appear on the online menu, but highly highly recommended if they have it), we also had a crab salad that was good, my bro-in-law had the tropical fruit sweet and sour chicken, which was a lot of food and quite decent. Can't recommend the sashimi -- the only sashimi I ordered was sweet shrimp, and it was inedible, definitely old. We had it taken off our bill very easily and pleasantly. As far as drinks, we got a high end glass of sake to share, and there was a lot -- they say champagne glass, but it was a large glass filled to the brim. Also, we had a bottle of unfiltered sake, and it wasn't as sweet/fruity as I'm used to those being, so I probably wouldn't get that again there. The decoration is really fun, esp considering from the outside it looks like the place is in a warehouse. You need a reservation to get seated at a table right away -- we got seated at the sushi bar, no reservation, immediately. My favorite place in Tallahassee to date. :) read more

Second time in a month we've ordered take out from MASA Second time our take out order has been completely mangled Not sure how but go figure Learned our lesson The food is great but service is ridiculously bad; they must hire new people every couple weeks.....PickUp order has been F'd up twice now Also, the traffic around the restaurant parking lot is awful, esp on WE Think twice and then think again before ordering pick up I would recommend that if you do order pick up that you have server remove EVERYTHING from the bag and review. Had a Friday 5:30pm dinner reservation and was promptly seated on time. The menu is Thai-Japanese centric. The atmosphere is trendy-modern. Got seated in a cozy booth with the occasional flickering light LOL. After the drink and food order was taken, they both arrived fairly quickly. I had the Thai coconut curry with steamed brown rice. I did request adding tofu and that it be grilled which they did! My table mate had the Eggplant with Thai Basil Sauce. It was a generous portion, very colorful and absolutely delicious! The weird part was that the waitress asked if we needed to go boxes before we were finished eating!?! A couple of times no less! Not soon after we were asked if we were ready for the check even though I wasn't done. Most high end restaurants wait for the patron to ask for the check and generally want you to enjoy the entire "un-rushed" experience. They run a tight ship. Consistent quality every time both in terms of food and service. Everything comes out fast and hot and is super tasty. It is in my top two places in Tallahassee. We always get their Pad Thai and their curries. Also fun location in town since it is right next to lake Ella. Anxious to try their new place "Little Masa" to see how it compares. I've always liked Masa even before when they were in their old location. This restaurant is owned by the same company that owns Lucy Ho. It was one of the few fine dining Chinese restaurant we have in Tallahassee & now that it's in a bigger, better location, its even greater. I liked the modern, black motif interior. I ordered their top priced Chilean Sea Bass here & it was delicious. Its my favorite fish even before. I love its creamy, no fishy smell. Its the bomb of fish! They offered us a private section of the restaurant and waited on all of my guests with such thoughtful care we felt like VIPs. Their food and drink selection was fantastic as well. Hip environment, recently went and was a bit disappointed. all the meals were average. Ordered the duck and it was dry not very tasty. I love the food at Masa when my order comes out correctly. I've only had issues with takeout specifically. Today my sister picked up takeout for us. I ordered the pineapple tofu fried rice; what I received was plain white rice (not fried) with tofu and pineapples. I maybe could have gotten past this if the rice was seasoned at all, but it was just plain, bland white rice. Really disappointing when the takeout quality is not the same as dine in. read more

I don't know if our original server quit or got her period, but after we ordered we didn't see her again. An hour and a half later our party of 4 had no drinks and no food. We waved down some random waitress and asked for more water, perplexed she eventually found the pitcher. Then we hear "there's a backup at the sushi counter". Dude!!!!
