Tuna Tuesday is every Tuesday all day and has a wide variety of tuna plates for anywhere from $3-$7. I normally go for a couple orders of tuna sashimi it's very fresh and good sized. Its pretty obvious that the sushi chef has no pride in their work. I got hunks of fish on wilted sad lettuce. the sauce I ordered and paid extra for was not included. the Tom Yum was chicken broth with sad clumps of what appears to be rehydrated tofu bobbing in it, and it's terrible. read more

Super gluten-friendly and such incredibly kind service from all the staff members I've ever had when eating there! They have a separate menu for all their GF options, and the options are abundant and all delicious and unique. Asian restaurants are always tricky for Celiacs, with the widespread use of soy sauce, artificial krab, and other triggers; however, Masa does a great job welcoming those with allergies such as myself. The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated in dark hues for a more refined dining experience. It's a great date night or GNO spot! My personal favorite items that I've ordered are the GF Thai Basil Fried Rice and the GF Pad Se-Ew. read more

On July 1, 2022, I brought my two daughters and niece to have a celebratory 16th birthday dinner. When we were done eating, I gave my credit card for the $99.98 bill (excluding tip) only for the waiter to return about three minutes later stating the machine shutdown while running my card before it printed a receipt and they were unsure if the charge was successful. I immediately checked my bank account and showed them the pending charge and was told it would have to be ran again and a duplicate transaction cannot happen back to back--well this was a lie. After waiting 20 minutes and watching other guests pay and leave with no problems, the waiter returned with another charge and a receipt for this transaction to sign. I again looked at my online account and saw two transactions for the same amount. Manager Amy and Larry ensured me it would "fall off" during the closing that night and to return in a few days if it hadn't. Next day, three charges on card the two I confirmed and the one for the receipt I signed adding a tip. I returned after a few days because it had not "falling off" and in speaking with Larry, he was very dismissive and told me there were no corporate offices or owners when I asked for their information. After I stated filing a complaint to assist me that's when he said "the owners are out of town", I told him I wanted the contact information and didn't inquire about them being in town or not. I explained that I traveled from the other side of town to visit this restaurant for my daughter to be treated as if I was trying to get over on a bill that I proved was successful but was charged to me three times! Larry provided one refund and stated the other would "fall off" and to-date it still has not. This discriminatory act has caused my account to incur overdraft fees due to the $315 hold that was recklessly applied by this restaurant. Best Asian Fusion place I've been to in FL. I'm from San Francisco where I am accustomed to having authentic Asian food (Chinese, Thai, Japanese, and Vietnamese). Everything we ate was delicious. They also have a variety of vegan options. Portions are enough for two people. I recommend trying a little bit of everything and sharing it. The staff was very friendly and helpful. There's plenty of parking. The aesthetic is an exotic mixture of different Asian decor. If you're looking for a nice experience with friends and family, Masa is the place to go. This is definitely not one of those fast food Chinese places you see in almost every plaza. You will pay more than what you will pay at those places. So at the risk of sounding like an asshole, let me just say this: if you regularly consume sushi in a metropolitan setting, at places generally staffed by actual Japanese people, prepared with typical ingredients, this place is not for you. If you don't know what maki, sashimi, and nigiri mean: you'll love this place (their menu has headers like "rice on the outside", and "seaweed on the outside", instead of the usual Japanese terms). Perhaps that's too harsh ... I have no problem with making something obtuse more accessible, and the terminology being translated to plain English isn't in-and-of-itself a deal breaker, but the "spicy salmon" roll was a regular-ass salmon roll, with Tabasco sauce dabbed on top. The restaurant is very nice, casual dressing. My party and I were sat in the back which was a private event area. Waitress was outstanding. Food: house salad was ok, spring mix with their dressing. Calamari are not your usual, they were big in size , breaded and just ok laid in top of spring mix salad, julienne carrots and some dressing. Cream cheese won ton had a healthy filling, not sweet not over powering. The blend of cream cheese and other ingredients had good flavor. The pastry could have been light , corner ends were hard. Shrimp fried rice was very good, Lome in tasty a little greasy, good flavor. . Overall good place. Prices are fair to fit the food and portions. Tables dressed with white cloths. Nice drink menu. So disappointed. We went tonight to celebrate our 31st anniversary. Arrived around 6:45 and seated immediately. We then waited over 10 minutes to even get water while other tables seated after us had already been greeted and placed drink orders. We finally had flag down another waitress to place our drink and appetizer order. She was very nice and apologized. We told her it was our anniversary and she said she would make sure we were taken care of. If only she was our waitress. We finally received our sushi and had to ask for soy sauce.... After 5 minutes I had to go to the podium to ask for it. It was almost comical that we were so neglected. We were very polite despite the lack of service and felt like we were totally ignored. And they were not busy at all. The food was good but not great. The lack of service and cleanliness does not justify the price. Our server messed up our drinks 3 times. She was also very rude. When we came in, 2 told the host about a birthday in our party. While the host wrote it down, our server never acknowledged it. We were taking photos as we were about to leave and our server was looking at another guy's newspaper instead of offering to help us out. Was a busy Friday night so we opted for a tall table in the bar to avoid the wait. The bartender took our order and was super friendly. Our drinks and appetizers where put in and everyone also got a water without even asking. The appetizers where fresh pot stickers one set fried and the other steamed to perfection. The fried cream cheese wontons where pretty good to with a nice sweet and sour sauce. I ordered a Masa ice coffee off the new Sumer menu which was like across between the sweetness of Thai ice tea and a ice coffee. The red sangria tasted as good as it looks. Actually everything looked so pretty on table. The beef bulgogi bowl was fantastic and the kimchi was great too. The pine apple beef tenderloins where juicy and tasty. The kids portion was huge for the price also. The sushi , nigiri and sashimi was both beautiful and fresh. The desserts where extremely rich and decent. Masa is an anachronism. As an upscale "Asian Fusion Bistro" they look good, have a fancy menu and can command higher prices. For some of those menu items -- like their incredible sea bass, salt & pepper shrimp, honey-walnut shrimp and seared sea scallop salad -- they deliver. On other items, they fall so flat that you wonder whether founder and legend Lucy Ho has any idea of how many corners are being cut. Can't imagine she would ever allow those disgraces of an egg roll to ever leave that kitchen. The worst I've ever eaten. Clearly frozen from some purveyor, NOT made on-site (and a bad purveyor at that). Earlier this week I watched a documentary on NetFlix called "The Search for General Tso," about the evolution of Chinese restaurants in America. Made me hungry for the iconic and pedestrian General Tso chicken. Ordered it tonight from Masa. Expected Tallahassee's premier "Asian Fusion Bistro" to hit it out of the park. Not so much. Dry, boring, listless - lacking in garlic, spice, flavor and heat. Sigh. However, I will give high marks to their cheese won tons and steamed potstickers (both of which I presume also come from purveyors, but I guess these were just better than those God-awful, lousy, terrible, BAD egg rolls). And their hot & sour soup is pretty good. Seriously, Masa, you should be ashamed for serving those mushy-innerd, skinny-ass egg rolls. Just remove them from your menu. I love egg rolls! I always order them with Chinese food. I JUDGE Chinese restaurants by the quality of their egg rolls. Lucy Ho's egg rolls were legendary! Plump, crispy, filled with fresh, crunchy veggies. What the heck happened?? You should be ashamed! After eating yours at least a dozen times over the past several years, tonight I have vowed never again. All in all, I think Masa is overrated - and disappointing. You'll find much better Chinese food (and sushi) at its sister restaurant, Azu, on Apalachee Parkway, east of Capital Circle. Yes, it's a haul from here and I have no idea why the food would be so much better when they are both owned by the same people, but it is (and, yes, even the egg rolls are better). Masa has been a staple in my & my boyfriend's relationship for almost a year now and I have never had anything less than a great experience. I took my parents here for my graduation dinner and they were so impressed and overwhelmed by the menu we had the hardest time finalizing an order! The sushi is always fresh and creative and beautiful. Their Panang Braised Beef is almost like a Thai spin on beef bourguignon, which I love. Their curries are delicious. I will admit I had the Thai Coconut Soup recently and was slightly underwhelmed - a bit heavy-handed on the fish sauce I think. But that could be a personal taste thing. Drinks are lovely. Service is always great. Atmosphere is beautiful - can sometimes get a little loud in the main dining room, so we typically sit at the bar. Definitely a Tallahassee gem! read more

I decided to try the new Masa for dinner the same day I had Kikü for lunch because I wanted to have the comparisons fresh in my mind. And because I'm weird, but I digress... First off, I would say Masa's new location across the street from Lake Ella is a vast improvement over its original locale where one had to fight over parking with patrons visiting whatever the old Café Divorcée is called this week. The food was just as good or better than it was at the old location. During this visit we ordered the crab wontons to start off, which were probably the best I've ever had. We then ordered a Dragon Roll and Pad Thai. If each of these is representative of the quality coming out of both the sushi bar and kitchen, then I would say that Masa's has improved upon its already great quality. Honestly, I can't say which I prefer: Masa or Kikü, because both were exceptional in terms of food quality, service, and location's visual appeal. But here is what I would say: Pick Masa if you're going in a group or otherwise in the mood for a larger restaurant with a lot of movement and activity; Pick Kikü if you're on a date or otherwise in the mood for a quiet, more intimate experience with service and quality as good as Masa's. Wonderful decor although it sits at the end of a shopping strip mall. But it is the end business so that makes it a little better. The food we ordered was unremarkable at best and inedible at worst. My General Tso's Chicken lunch box had tiny portions of noodles and rice. The rice was burned beyond eating. The noodles had no flavor. The chicken was undercooked. The sushi ordered by my friends was (again) small and underwhelming. And they charged significantly more than competitors. Topped off, the A/C blew so hard at us the entire time that we were uncomfortably cold and had trouble holding on to napkins. Overall, the worst experience I've had at a Tallahassee restaurant. It's definitely a somewhat trendy place for Tallahassee. The inside is decorated with dim lighting, candles and a fresh, Asian-fusion vibe. We went on a weekday evening and the place was crowded. There is parking in the front but it was pretty full. There were quite a few tables there that looked like they were celebrating things like birthdays. The service is very attentive. The reviews for Masa were hit or miss, so we were a little skeptical when we went. We showed up around 6:30 on the evening of summer graduation and expected a madhouse. The wait was a mere 15-20 minutes for two and we ended up opting for a tiny table by the door to sit immediately. Service was spotty. We saw our waitress once for water/beer and again with the check. Food runner delivered our pad thai & sushi, nobody stopped by for refills. It was a really busy night, though we agreed we got passed over by our server because she assumed we were young and weren't worth the attention to tip ratio. All that said, we'll probably come back. My sushi was good, I had the roll with salmon/tuna - can't remember the name. Boyfriend had pad thai and demolished it and a single roll of sushi left me a weeee bit hungry. The menu was full of creative dishes in the "Asian fusion" genre of cuisine. My wife and son loved their meals and rave about the place. These are typically five-star indicators for me except for one thing...I didn't really enjoy my food. I had the grilled chicken teriyaki, which looked great on the menu. It had a nice flavor of both grilled meat and of teriyaki marinade, but both flavors were lost shortly after I started eating it. It's a mystery why that happens, maybe the flavor goes away when the temperature of the food cools, I don't really know. I just know it didn't satisfy. I visited this restaurant with a group of six in celebration of my sister's graduation from FSU. We made reservations ahead of time knowing that it would likely be quite busy with families the day of. When we arrived we were promptly seated but were put at a set of two round high top tables awkwardly shoved together near the bar. I approached the hostess desk to ask if we could be moved and the gentleman at the hostess stand was very accommodating and said he would have a new table for us shortly. We were moved to the new larger table in short order and I was very grateful for that. Our waitress, Nicolette, was extremely polite, prompt and professional. We ordered several appetizers. The best was the baby clams which came in a really delicious black bean sauce. Both of the salads we ordered had very nice and light dressings on them. For my entree I ordered the duck breast with red curry sauce. My sides were steamed rice and cabbage with bacon. One of major gripes with Chinese restaurants is the small portion of rice that is usually served. This restaurants portion definitely fit the bill. It was tiny compared to the amount of duck and veggies I received. The rest of my party had a similar complaint. Big bowls of curry and tiny cups of rice. The duck was also over cooked so it was on the chewy side. I wouldn't order it again if I visited again. Overall, the service was great but the food was a little lacking. read more
