We had a wonderful dinner at Chuck's Fish during our visit to Tallahassee. From the moment we walked in, our host set the tone -- incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and genuinely helpful in guiding us through the menu. His recommendations were spot on. We shared their mixed nigiri and sashimi dish with rice, which was fresh, beautifully prepared, and full of flavor. We also tried a breaded white fish entrée served over a bed of asparagus, and it was excellent -- crispy, tender, and perfectly seasoned. Nicole enjoyed a local IPA, and we kept the rounds of water flowing. The restaurant is a few blocks from the Capital on the subdivision of an office park. It's very nice inside. Everything we ordered was delicious, and the service made the experience even better. Chuck's Fish is absolutely worth a stop if you're looking for great seafood and warm hospitality. read more

Stopped in with a party of 7 and they were able to get a table prepared for us within 5 minutes. Our server, Campbell, was so nice and accommodated requests patiently. The appetizers (shrimp and poke nachos) were delicious. The tom Collins (less sweet) and French 75 (sweeter) options were delicious. The espresso martini was not my fave and the hey baby was too strong; you couldn't really taste anything besides the alcohol. The backdown roll was delicious! The crunchy shrimp was not actually crunchy and two pieces came practically empty. The burgers and grilled chicken Caesar salad were great options. Things I Ordered: Szechuan Calamari Salmon Sashimi Black Dragon Roll Seaweed Salad I can't speak on the service on ambience too much as I ordered to-go, but the hostess I dealt with was kind. When I got home, everything was packaged well and plated nicely. The best thing of what I ordered was the Szechuan calamari. The breading on it was perfectly seasoned and crunchy. The salmon sashimi was fresh. Nothing to complain about. The black dragon roll was not very good and barely had any crab in it. Overall the food was average with the highlight being an appetizer. We called more than a week before to make a reservation for a large group for my son's graduation. The person on the phone was very helpful and happily took the reservation, even though it was for a Saturday early dinner. We arrived at the restaurant early and they were super kind to seat us early, even when half the party hadn't arrived yet. We had two servers assigned to our group, with one being a trainee. Both were excellent! We asked to split the bill between two of us and they accommodated the request without hesitation. The food was impressive. We ordered two sets of the calamari and fish dip for the table, both tasted really good. They handled our drink order well with cocktails, mocktails, and sodas being in the mix. The drinks were spot on. The entrees varied across the table, but just like the drinks and appetizers, they were on point and everyone at the table enjoyed them. The only reason for four stars and not five was the air conditioning. We were in the upper room to the left and it was above 80 degrees (according to their thermostat). Another table near us got up and found their server to ask that the temperature be lowered, and we were about to do the same. Someone came back and adjusted the thermostat, but it made little difference for the rest of their meal. Our server told us that this upper room is often warm. Several at our table were uncomfortable due to the temperature, but we just pushed through. Overall, it was an wonderful experience and made our son's day extra special as this is his favorite restaurant in Tallahassee and he was able to share it with those closest to him. read more

Made a reservation with no problem, though I specifically asked to be seated "inside" and not "outside." Upon arrival, I found that a table had been set up in the outside area, though a tarp was in place, specifically to keep out the rain I suppose. My issue with this is that my friends who were seated next to the tarp had to deal with drops of rain here and there during the dinner. They didn't get soaked or anything, but it was enough to be somewhat of a nuisance. We were a party of 12, so it is not as if we could be moved somewhere else. With this being said, the food was good and our server was pleasant. For appetizers, we had the Spring Rolls, Uptown Shrimp, and the Szechuan calamari. Other food items included the Sauteed Red Snapper, Fried Shrimp, Gumbo. Everyone enjoyed their meals. We still haven't received an appetizer a drink a hike would you like some bread or anything we got up and walked out the worst run restaurant I think I've ever been in. After that, we proceeded to the Monroe service wasn't much better. The food to me was atrocious. I had the Japanese short ribs and some bok choy and it was terrible. Salad was good but the prices were ridiculous. Don't go to this place unless you're a congressman and the people are paying for your meal because if you have an individual, you won't want to afford this for the quality of the service in the food honestly. Happy hour drinks were half-price but seemed very weak,$6. A crabcake dinner $40 was very tasty, yet two rather thin, small crabcakes, served with a couple of sprigs of broccoli and some orzo mixture. Also, we had the crusted grouper special, $44. A small portion atop some base dish of ? One had a cheeseburger with very tasty fries, $20. I didn't order this but it looked overly well done. I have ventured to Chuck's Fish several times over the past few years. When you visit, getting the focaccia bread is a must. I'm not really a bread person, but this bread is one I cannot turn down. Their sushi is fresh and there is a mixture of combinations you can try. One of my favorite dishes is the fish of the day with crawfish cream, rice pilaf, and vegetables. This dish has never failed to please because the fish is always cooked perfectly and the crawfish cream sauce is the perfect topper for whichever fish is on the menu at that time. My son loves their crab cakes because they have more crab than breading. My husband loves their steak. The service is always top tier with attentiveness being a consistent theme. read more

I visited Chuck's Fish for the second time yesterday. My first visit was last year. The first time I sat at the sushi bar, but this time at a table in the back. They were pretty busy, but they found a place for the three of us. Our server was Olivia, and she was absolutely on top of everything. She kept our drinks full, very personable, always there to clear used plates, timely on delivering the food and helpful in sharing her opinion of different menu items. Excellent server! The Chuck's salad is fantastic. So good with figs, cheese, housemade dressing and other great flavors. The sushi was fresh like before. This time we tried the Rock N Roll, Volcano, Fried Shrimp and California rolls. All were very tasty. My cousin got the Chicken Scallopini, and she said it was very good. It's a sushi place with other options so if you have someone with you who doesn't like sushi or seafood, they can find plenty other items on the menu. read more

I used to love this place but the past couple of time were pretty disappointing. I came in to celebrate my birthday, the menus were dirty and we got chipped dishes. I got a chunk of wasabi in one pieces of my California roll. When I told the server, she just took it away. I tried giving it another chance, and we got sat with dirty menus and chipped dishes again. It's like two restaurants in one. They have two menus. One Asian with seafood and Sushi, the other basic American. Maybe Chuck Roast and Fish would be a play on the name of the Restaurant for the two menus. It's located just down the street from Sorority and Fraternity Row, so the Chuck part for the Dudes and the Fish part for the Gals wanting a less calorie more healthy menu. A good business model for the location. I would come back when I am back in Tally. I had the Seafood Salad which was great. The Grouper which could have used more browning on the top and the bread pudding. The bread pudding wasn't traditional with chunks of bread in a casserole. It was like a slice of bread which I think is a poor man's bread pudding. I think this bread pudding can be sold as French Toast the next morning. read more

Went to Chuck's Fish with a group of friends for dinner. I was very excited to try this restaurant. I ordered the Strawberry Lemonade during happy hour. It was delicious! Other ladies ordered the Jalapeño pineapple margarita and enjoyed that as well. I have wanted to try their sushi, so I ordered the Backdown roll. It was good. I probably wouldn't order it again. A few people ordered gumbo, which they all raved about. For dinner, I ordered the fish of the day, sautéed with crawfish cream and Gouda grits. The fish was cooked incredibly well. I don't know when is the last time I've had such a fresh and tender piece of fish. The fish itself was not seasoned enough, but with the cream and a little salt, it was delicious. The Gouda grit cake was okay. I also tasted a little piece of the Parmesan crusted fish, which was also tasty. Overall, I would recommend Chuck's Fish. read more

We got the focaccia which was SO GOOD as an appetizer, wonderful crispy yet spongy and salty and it was perfect with the olive oil. I ordered grilled grouper and my partner got the poke bowl as a meal. The tune poke was amazing and so fresh! Grouper was crispy on the outside and flakey with a really yummy (albeit salty) sauce. I am being gentle with 2 stars only because we have eaten here before and had a pretty good experience. This was a disaster. We arrived around 5:35pm. The restaurant was about 1/4 full (mostly empty). We quickly ordered our drinks and then immediately ordered 4 sushi rolls (so a small dinner). We explained to the waitress that we were in a bit of hurry, so we needed to order quickly and then bring us our check because we were going to a concert. We ordered around 5:45. And we paid our bill about 15 minutes later. Then we waited and waited...at 6:20 we asked how much longer because we needed to go. At 6:30 we said we would take our food to go. At 6:40 we walked out. My two rolls were done so I ate a couple bites in the car (no sauce). My husband left without his food. We paid for 4 sushi rolls, only received two, and they were not very good because I didn't have any sauce. I trashed most of my meal because we did not have time to eat and no way to keep it cold while in the concert. My husband had nothing to eat because we never received his food. I really do not think it is unreasonable to think that 4 sushi rolls can be made in 30 minutes. However, if they were too busy to get us in and out in under an hour for a small meal, they should have told us when we arrived and told them we had time restraint. To sum it up - big waste of $ and very frustrating experience. We went through McDonalds after the concert. I do not think I will be back - maybe if I have hours to eat and am not very hungry. We tried not to show our complete frustration, but it was very hard to not be annoyed. The staff really seemed to not care that we were leaving without our food after paying for it or that they had completely messed up. read more

First time visiting Chuck's after a recommendation from neighbors. We, 3 of us, had an early dinner reservation (we're old). We were greeted by a friendly hostess and show to our table. Trendy decor. Our server introduced herself and took our beverage orders. Generous cocktails arrived in a few minutes. We inquired as to the fresh catch of the day - Black Grouper, and what appetizers she'd recommend - we chose the flash fried crispy kimchi Brussels sprouts and a delicious crab sushi roll. The sprouts truly were Asian candy as she'd referred to them. Entrees ordered were a Parmesan crusted grouper, a grilled grouper with in a crawfish cream sauce and a stuffed shrimp. We hungrily sampled each. The grouper dishes were outstanding. White, flaky fish cooked perfectly. Risotto and broccoli rabe accompanied 1, garlic mashed were with the other. All delicious. The crab stuffed bacon wrapped shrimp were tasty but overcooked which made the shrimp somewhat tough. The crabmeat filling was generous. By Tallahassee standards, Chucks Fish is a terrific place to dine. Price per person about $75 plus tip. We will be back! read more

Let me warn you ahead of time about parking if you aren't from the area. They don't have an actual parking lot but there is street parking and a parking garage directly across the entrance. Service was friendly and attentive. They are definitely kid friendly and offered a kids menu with crayons to color. We were really excited about trying Chuck's Fish in Tallahassee as some folks in our party had rave reviews from another location, but were overall disappointed. I will say that the food was good, particularly the sushi and fish entree. That, and our company were the main bright points in the meal. One person in our party ordered the steak and said she would not order again as it was thin and overcooked. Our server was kind and knowledgeable however she was really busy with other tables and the meal took 3 hours. The main issue was that the main dining area was incredibly hot. So hot that we were sweating through the meal and several people in our party had completely wet seats/pants from sweating. We did see an air-conditioning repair person come in and then leave, however it did not improve. For a meal of this caliber, we were disappointed that mgmt never came to the table to acknowledge the air issue or to even check-in. The server apologized a few times about the heat, but there was really no explanation given as she didn't have one. The bill was around $400 for the table (6), we didn't have entrees after 2 hours of being there(3 hours from walking in the door to leaving), and we were fanning ourselves throughout the meal because it was so hot. At the end of the meal some folks from our group left the building while we got up to get our checks paid so we could get out quicker. Omg!!!! I'm visiting and came to this restaurant two nights in a row and got the SAME thing!!!! The food is absolutely immaculate!!!! I had the ribeye, mashed potatoes and asparagus!!! Brylee was our server both nights and she did amazing job! Quick and very kind! I graduated from FAMU and look forward to coming back during homecoming. This is my new favorite place in Tallahassee!
