    Fried Mullet
    Chandra W.

Came here for an early dinner. I've heard about Leola's but I'd never been, even when they were at their other location. I had the whole mullet dinner with cheese grits, and fried okra. Mullet is definitely not my fish of choice, but It came with a whole fish split down the middle. The fish was amazing. The breading was crisped and seasoned to perfection, not too salty. The okra was good, however, the cheese grits definitely need some work. I am a grit snob and all I could do was throw them away. I will definitely be back because the fish was amazing and it was huge for the price.

I saw this on Yelp and decided to try. This is actually a food truck.. young lady who assisted me was real nice. I decided to get the garlic shrimp dinner with corn and potatoes. The flavor is so immaculate.. very tasty .. the shrimp in my opinion tasted like frozen shrimp and a tad over cooked. I give 5stars on the flavor along.

Been wanting to eat some quality crab for quite awhile, then my friends came to visit, so we decided it was the right time. First off, I just have to say that the portions are huge. We got the fried crab and the garlic crab, and they could barely close the containers. This is good because crab isn't really a cheap item to come across, so knowing that you get what you pay for helps. The service was really good. I actually had ordered online through GrubHub, and it turns out that they don't like when people do that because it didn't actually reach them. So when we showed up, they hadn't received our order at all. Thankfully they said they would deal with it and made our food anyways. The food is pretty good. The garlic crab has a good spice mixture and the fried crab breading tastes great. Of course eating crab is a messy ordeal, so make sure to have tons of napkins! The breading on the fried crab made me wish I could just chew through the shell honestly. The small restaurant is located right in the corner of a small building complex, they have limited indoor and outdoor seating, and play some good jams while you're there. Definitely would recommend giving this place a look if you're feeling some good southern seafood!

Fried catfish cheese grits and garlic potatoes

Exploring Tallahassee for places to have seafood I found this spot. Which is on the south side. There's nothing fancy about it but the food is wonderfully seasoned. Upon walking in I was greeted with a friendly hello and how may I help you. The cashier was knowledgeable about items they had and what was sold out. The only complaint and I won't call it that but comment is that the cheese in the cheese grits needs to be amped up. It is a little to subtle for me a true cheese grits lover. The fish remained crunchy on my 10 minute ride to my hotel. The butter seasoned they pour on the crabs and potatoes was awesome. I think the use of fresh chopped garlic would provide more flavor than the powdered stuff. Overall I enjoyed the food.

    What I got

The shrimp where over cooked gummy The corn and the potato was just nasty either old or not cooked sorry this was the food truck it was located in Dothan Al on 12/18/21 do better

First time at Leola's and definitely will not be our last!!! Everything was great- fried fish, fried shrimp, garlic shrimp, garlic corn, eggs, Mac and cheese, fried okra.... OMG. Sooooo good! Prices were great, portions were huge! Hush puppies the best I've had in YEARS!!! Wings were meaty/good size/ lots of flavors to choose from, we had the hot garlic and it was delicious.... The people were so friendly, service was quicker than we expected.... Daughter starting college at FAMU next month so we will be visiting quite a bit and Leola's is now on our list of 'must go to' for all our future visits!

Have been here three times and like the food, but honestly, I prefer the egg and corn more than the crab. Especially that corn on the cob, delicious af! And I finally figure out I am not a crab guy, the process of eating a crab is painful. Always end up with even hungrier. Next time I will walk in and ask for a dozen of corn, just corn, no seafood thanks.

It's has been years since I ate at Leola's because of my relocation to another city. However, just like before, I was throughly pleased with my meal. This time my family of four joined me and if you can satisfy my very picky kids (14 and 8), you must be great! Our food was hot, seasoned, and so very tasty. We ordered the garlic shrimp and fried shrimp combo; blue crab and garlic shrimp combo; and the fried catfish sandwich meal. Our sides included garlic potatoes, garlic corn, baked beans, grits, and hush puppies. Everything... and I'm mean everything was amazing!

    Crabs!

Delicious! Crabs, gator tail, shrimp, fried chicken. Super helpful staff. Will be back!

I was told that the restaurant was built over the water so it could take advantage of Franklin County being wet and sell alcohol. Stand in the parking lot in Wakulla County and you better not have any booze on you. Walk into the restaurant out over the water and you could quench your thirst. Is it any wonder that it was a popular drive even from Tallahassee to dine. It's still a wonderful drive for delicious food on the water. Angelo's website tells me it was George's Grill and Bar at the start. It was Faiver's Restaurant when I came here right into the '70s at least. It became Angelo's in 1985 after extensive renovations. All of these versions have been owned by the same family. In 2005 Hurricane Denis damaged the old building. I remember seeing pictures of the missing floor throughout the restaurant. The damage was bad enough that the building had to be torn down. Amazingly, the family was able to rebuild while meeting new building codes for coastal buildings. It's much higher off the water now on a solid concrete foundation. It does mean it's a bit of a climb to the doors but there's an elevator for those of us that find that challenging. Once you get up there you will be rewarded with indoor and outdoor waterfront seating on Ochlockonee Bay. It's one of very few waterfront dining options available near Tallahassee these days. We have dined there a couple of times recently and it's always good food and good service. This last visit I discovered an off menu option for Costa Rican Amberjack. The waitress did me a tremendous favor when she mentioned it when I asked about the Charbroiled Amberjack that is on the menu. Besides the absolutely amazing presentation for the dish (check out my photo), it is equally delicious. One of a few destination dishes that so impressed me that I would drive specifically to get them. Like the Chipotle Pork Chops at Habana Boardwalk, the Spaghetti Bolognese at Mimmo's in Destin, the Ribs at Charlie Verdugo's Rendevous in Memphis and the Firecracker Pork Fusilli at Fuzio Universal Bistro in Modesto. The fish was perfectly grilled and the sauces and rice and black beans were a tasty addition. The wife enjoyed the Popcorn Shrimp appetizer and I gave her my cheese grits side. The shrimp are good sized popcorn shrimp and they are lightly floured rather than buried in batter. We have tried most of their fried seafood options and all were good. I would even recommend the Buffalo Backs appetizer using grouper and snapper backbones although I had it when it was an entree special. You will not find a better dining option on the water in our area.

First of all, out in the middle of no where, odd open times but BUSY BUSY when they are open. Take a seat if available and you will be greeted and treated by their sweet littlest family members who are ready to take your drink orders. Our server was excellent and ready to host and please her guests. They seem to be VERY accommodating with their menu and requests so any questions or concerns prior to ordering do ask, because they were very willing to please! I came in with the intention of ordering the all you can eat--which is mix and match!! but the server talked me out of it (I think she under estimated my ability to pound food) BUT she said if I chose to order more and upgrade later she would do that for me with no penalty. We had 6 in our party. Our drinks came quickly and without issue. They brought us one salad (forgetting another) and honestly the salads were small and disappointing (this is where they start losing some creds). Definitely more salad dressing than salad. It's odd they chose to use disposable containers and dinner ware--I feel like a lot of waste and overhead is lost here...I mean the salad comes in a plastic clear container, with dressing in plastic ramekin with lid and on styrofoam plate with two packs of crackers. Losing too much. Especially for three bites of salad. I ordered the "deviled crab" and grilled shrimp. It came with two hush puppies which I immediately gave away (I don't eat those at all), two sides; onion rings and cheese grits. Ya'll, those onions rings were ON POINT. Don't miss out on those if you stop in. They boast that everything is homemade and I believe it. The onion rings were perfect. The cheese grits were pretty yummy--I wish I tossed my grilled shrimp in them. So the deviled crab, if you've ever had this dish before--theirs is not it. What they truly have here is a homemade crab cake. It's not bad--I ate all mine--however my two gfs could not. They were so disappointed and turned off by the texture/color of the cake. The server noticed they weren't eating theirs and was adamant about bringing them replacement food--they finally agreed to take more fried shrimp which was also very yummy. Crab claws is a new dish for me on this Florida trip--they offer it grilled, fried or blackened and I will say the grilled crab claw was delicious! For the six of us; all ordered the seafood platters (combo of 2) our total was $130 so I'd say that's very reasonable. Definitely worth the stop!!

We were so impressed that we recommended this place to multiple people and were genuinely excited to come back last Sunday. Unfortunately, this visit was a complete disappointment from start to finish. The service was noticeably worse, the beer selection was extremely limited compared to before, and the food was honestly some of the worst seafood we've had in years. We ordered the fried calamari and the mixed grilled seafood plate. The calamari was chewy, flavorless, and the batter had an unpleasant texture. The mixed seafood plate was even worse - the oysters looked, smelled, and tasted awful, and the fish, shrimp, stuffed crab and scallops were completely bland. Even the fried okra, which should be an easy Southern staple, was disappointing. We left wondering if they changed chefs or management because the difference from our first experience was shocking. Even my mom, who is far from a picky eater, could barely eat her food. It's genuinely upsetting because this used to be a place we loved and enthusiastically recommended to others. Sadly, after this experience, we won't be returning.
