This was a very pleasant experience. My top-tier chum and I stopped by this past Sunday afternoon…read morefor a little pick-me-up and a palate cleanser after a mediocre lunch down the street. I was a little startled when I walked in; it almost felt like a warehouse or something - there is a TON of empty, unutilized space in Pennyrose and despite music playing in the background, it's almost too quiet. There's a few upholstered pink chairs throughout the establishment, but mostly it's just square footage to roam around in. Not much of a ding if at all, but they definitely could use a little more furniture in here to make it more comfortable. Easy problem to fix - just hit up a few estate sales and you're golden. My chum (this is what chums are for) noticed that they had rose flavoring, which is my absolute favorite; why lavender is getting so much traction in the floral genre is beyond me. I ordered a rose latte with skim, and it was very tasty. The barista told me because it was a hot latte that it had to be a size large (not clear why) but perfectly fine by me on a nippy, overcast November afternoon straight out of Folklore. Perfect amount of rose without being overwhelming and really hit the spot. I also grabbed an intriguing looking blueberry lemon iced scone. Also really good though one corner of the scone had too many blueberries so I avoided that, but that's a total palate preference on my end. Would absolutely gnaw on that again. The service was excellent. Beyond receiving pretty much a dictionary definition perfect latte, the barista just let us hang out by the front window for a few hours people watching. Coffee houses SHOULD be communal spaces to just chill out in for a while, so if it had been an issue that's end game for me, but we both felt very welcomed and easily could have lingered for a while more but SOMEone (cough cough chum cough cough) needed to buy soy candles in Lafayette or something. So it goes. Just a little more interior decorating, and I think you really have something here.

I was excited to try a new coffee place but this was not up to my standards…read more The initial vibe is cute with some couches and comfy chairs but it feels empty and without character. The French Toast latte was yummy even though they ran out of whipped cream. The carrot cake scone was pretty good, but they are refrigerated, so maybe ask for it to be heated up a bit to take the chill out. Hubby said the cappuccino was ok. I think what troubled me was the employee's indifference to our being there. We wiped down our own table because they all needed a cleaning. Then they said they needed to replace the napkins, they did but couldn't be bothered with bring us a couple. They were carrying in stock items and my husband held the door for them but they were like don't worry about it. We can just push the door ourselves.

It was such a beautiful night, my parents and I came and we each got our own pizza. Pizza came out in maybe 15 minutes, we sat and waited and just chilled. It was a beautiful night. I am so appreciative that Windy Brow has a vegan cheese option, so I could be included! I got the Margherita pizza and subbed vegan cheese. The crust and dough were incredible - so fluffy, perfectly crispy, amazing thick crust. The vegan cheese was also great, and the sauce too. Just a perfect pizza. My dad got a regular Margherita and loved it, and my mom got the fungi pizza with mushrooms and was raving about it. My boyfriend got the pig and fig and (of course) loved it as well. We all raved to each other about how amazing everything was. For a farm to do something like this when they don't need to, shows that they love what they do! You can really feel the love in the pizza. We then got ice cream after since the ice cream stand was still open. I got the vegan dark chocolate sea salt (literally incredible, perfect consistency, I love hard ice cream so this was amazing), my boyfriend got Madagascar vanilla and said it was a perfect classic vanilla, my dad said the cherry vanilla was the best he's ever had, and my mom who doesn't love ice cream got the lemon blueberry butter cake and was raving about it. Phenomenal job!!!!! So appreciative to live near a spot like this. Blessings!

I stopped in around 10:30a on a Thursday in December to read and enjoy coffee & breakfast. Every table was taken, so I asked a lone gentleman at a 4-top if I could join him, and he graciously accepted. Painstaking is the best word I can use to describe my decision-making around which holiday bevvie to try, and I settled on a peppermint mocha. Y'all, this was the quintessential holiday drink, with a perfect ratio of coffee flavor to chocolate in an actual mug - and not overly sweet. I would come back every day of December to try all of their coffee options based on that gorgeous display of caffeinated artistry. I also got the Prosciutto Avocado Toast with an egg, and it was so good, I savored it over the course of 20-30 minutes, which is a record since I usually win the award for fastest eater at the table (I grew up with brothers, it was Hunger Games in our household... I've trained for this). If only I lived closer, I would be here all the time. Top 10 fave cafes of all time!

It's a clean, open space with a decent amount of seating. The temperature is usually on the colder side, and I wouldn't say it is overly cozy. I've ordered here with some frequency over the last few years, usually when I am out running errands. I'd say the food quality is mediocre, and the prices have ballooned to levels I would say are prohibitive to the average consumer based on the amount of food you're getting. I ordered a grilled chicken wrap with mozzarella, balsamic, roasted red peppers, etc. the other day and was surprised that it was $17. For a smallish wrap, it's really too costly. The cafe throws in a bag of chips, but I've never asked for one. You can get a very similar (larger) sandwich at A&G Pizza in Branchville for $4 less. I'm not sure why the consumer would want to pay 30% more for less quality, outside of the fact that there are no other cafes or delis in the immediate area. The Hampton Diner, which is notorious for being expensive (but good quality) has a similar wrap called the California which is also somewhat expensive at $15, so I'd guess that's what Serendipity is basing its prices on. I realize all food prices are inflated right now, but Serendipity should be charging $12 max for its wraps, and based on the size, they're not far off what you're getting from Quick Check at half the price. At the cafeteria near my job, it's $8 for a wrap. I'll still check in from time to time at this cafe, but the prices are pushing me away.

Lot's of different things to critique so I'll try to categorize…read more Pro's: Friendly Staff, Accommodating (Depending upon the staff) and some decent offerings. Some of the pound cakes and brownies are tasty, pies, some cake and cupcakes. Cons: Not consistent with lunch menu items and what sides are supposed to come with meals - all depends upon the staff or if they are running low on sides. Breads are sometimes under-cooked and just plain doughy. "Fresh baked" cookies are too heavy on the sugar and sadly not made with butter. Andover location is in serious need of paint, a new window sill outside and a cleaning! No clue if they use preservatives or fillers. To start with, Café Pierrot has a lunch menu which states what sides, toppings, or ingredients are included on a salad, sandwich, soup or wrap. Depending upon whom is making your lunch it will vary each time and many times NOT include what it is supposed to on their menu. All wraps are supposed to have potato salad, pasta salad and greens. Sometimes you may get an average portion of these sides, sometimes just a heaping spoonful, other times you may only be given one or two of the sides. One of the wraps states "with EXTRA potato salad". Uh, no. Never happens - why have a menu then? If you order one of their salads, good luck getting what is supposed to be part of that dish. And they are very skimpy on the greens. I've stopped ordering salads, because its just not worth it when you DON'T get everything that you are supposed to! Some days you order soup to go and they will include several slices of their bread, with another young lady you get nothing. Or, if they are running low on the sides, someone may skimp, but to be quite honest, why cheat the customer? Mind you, you are still paying FULL price for these dishes. Maybe the staff needs a refresher on what it states on their menus and to stay consistent! Walnut Coconut Bars - twice now we've tried these, which COULD be delicious - first time the walnuts in this bar were stale. I thought, well, maybe it's just this one time and I questioned to myself whether any of the staff tastes the walnuts to insure freshness or are there expiration dates on these things? We tried again almost 2 months later - yep - same thing. Entire bar is riddled with stale walnuts. WHY??? That's unacceptable. Moving on to the condition of this establishment. Not trying to be mean, but you walk up to the little building where they have the Café (they own several buildings on this property) and you cannot miss the completely rotted window sills in front - why would you let this go for so long? And you just celebrated your 30th Anniversary? Also, there is some sort of antique mill sitting in front - rusted to high Heaven - again, it can't be there for any kind of décor because at this point its an eyesore. On the latest visit - since we were waiting for so long for an order to be done (which we called ahead and gave it MORE than ample time to finish) I happened to look towards the corner that leads into back area where they prep and bake and maybe 20 large bags of flour were stacked against the wall - next to them some lawn and leaf type trash bag dangling over something and I looked above and there were dark cobwebs dangling from the ceiling over the bags of flour and trash bag. Not appealing at all. Not to mention, the walls looked dirty and all around it's in need of cleaning and fresh paint. Just makes me wonder what else is lurking in the back where they prepare the food when the entrance to the place is rotting and the place needs to be painted and cleaned? Does the owner ever take a look or care? They offer so called fresh baked cookies if you call at least 30 minutes ahead (their policy, not mine). OK, we tried this and when I called I was told it will be about 30-45 minutes. Fine, no problem. We arrived an hour later, figuring it gave them plenty of time to prepare the cookies. When we got there I was told, oh, they are just going in the oven, so it should be about 5 minutes. NO. Try 30-40 minutes later of waiting. Gee, thanks. To top this all off, after waiting so long for something that should have been ready - they dumped all these large (warm) cookies on top of each other with NO wax paper in between! If you even attempted to dislodge one, it would crumble. Geeze, after all that and you end it with sloppy packaging? And it's not like they were all the same cookie type. Lastly, I'm not adverse to sugar, but when the flavor is overpowered by just sugar, it's no good. And we tasted no butter, which homemade cookies should be made with real butter and these had none that could be detected. HUGE disappointment and would never order these cookies again. We keep going back, hoping for better quality and service, but it's hit or miss.
