Service was quick and convenient the actual eyebrow threading not so much. I was looking for a clean up and my end result was botchy. She said it's because of the weather but when I wax it doesn't end up as botchy. She did ask if I wanted her to take it off but that would cause my brows to end up very thin. I appreciated her asking about the shape. There was still a lot of baby hairs not around my shape. I had to ask her to remove. I also was red at the end and she didn't offer oil or gel. I had to ask for it, I was the only one at the establishment and it took her no more than 10 min. I wish she could have taken her time and cleaned my brows up better. read more

So sad to post this. I shared some photos of an unfortunate incident with a new member of Mary's team about four months ago. After. Serra of messages, someone called me back and apologized profusely offering to credit me for both services (lip and brow) for next time. I was also encouraged to only ask for Mary to do the service. I believed, at the time of this phone call, that it would be resolved. As in now (4 months later) I have not been back. Apparently, Mary is only there on random days during the day. I do have a full package for brow and lip, but it looks like I'll just hold on to the credit for a bit. I'd very much like to update this soon with a five star rating. I have gone to Mary's threading since they opened - I think in 2017 or so. And I've been a loyal customer. In the recent ~3 months, I have gone during their business hours and they are always closed and/or not there. I don't go right at 10AM, I go around noon to ensure someone is there and every time, they're not there! Because I know if I go at 10AM, there might be a chance they're running late. So I go past 11:30AM. And I don't show up 6PM either. The latest I've gone is 4PM. I have gone 5x and all different days of the week as well. I have called but never answers the phone. Not sure what is going on. I would like some answers! I also used my entire brow package the last time I was there in November ish and Mary pushed that I pre-purchase the next package even though I didn't need it for my services. And so I spent and purchased a full brow package and have not been able to use it. It made me wonder if they were going out of business and were pushing me to purchase the package on purpose? I would like to continually go! I want to know when they're open and their REAL hours! read more

She never mentioned that the card has an expiration date. I've been coming here for a few years with pack card and never once did they say anything about a card only good for one year. My mom and I have been Mary's Threading for years. Unfortunately I moved away, but my mom has continued going. Due to the pandemic, my mom was not comfortable going like many people. Then she was diagnosed with cancer and underwent chemotherapy so obviously had no way to use the pack she had bought. My mom went back to use the card and was told it was no longer valid. Mary claims there is a sign posted that it is only valid for 1 year, but that sign definitely was not there when we bought our packages. It is also not written on the package card anywhere, and was not mentioned any of the many times I purchased the packages from her. You can see this common theme among reviews on Yelp and on Google. They are also going out of their way to respond to all of the negative reviews, blaming the customer and being quite condescending and rude. I have had negative experiences with Mary in the past (rude behavior, lots of cuts when I got my face threaded for my wedding) but this definitely takes the cake. Mary has perfected the art of losing customers. I highly recommend visiting iBrows by Marzy instead. read more

They do really well cleaning up my brows and have very affordable package deals, but they have a downside that I think is pretty significant. They never open on time, which is disappointing because I've waited so many times to clean up my brows before work and often they're still closed by the time I need to leave (I work at 11:30am, they're supposed to open at 10am). It's hard to come in midday because of work and they close when I get off at 6. I love this place but I really, really wish they opened on time. read more

Two years ago my account was hacked and wrote negative reviews. Mary's threading was one of them that I am aware of, and apparently there was a feud through messages. I have contacted Yelp support and they took care of it. The account was deleted. I was anxious to create a new account because of that. However, I wanted to continue to write reviews and try new places. I really liked the woman that did my eyebrows, she got rid of every last bit of hair. She did go over it multiple times but there were no scars or marks. I usually get a full face and she took her time getting rid of every last bit of hair. Beware shady probably illegal practice of selling you prepaid services and then having them expire so that you'll lose the prepaid value. Be careful purchasing a brow card from this business. You want to make sure you use the services regularly or they'll tell you it's expired and then take the card from you before you've used up all of the prepaid services. They did this twice and claimed that they were doing me a favor by extending the card expiry through the pandemic when we were on lockdown. I made the mistake of being talked into buying another card and they refused to honor all of the services and took the card claiming that it is buy 4, get 2 free. Well I didn't get the deal that I prepaid for because they claim the deal has expired. That seems to be in violation of the CARD Act of 2009 which is a law that prohibits offering any "gift certificate, store gift card, or general-use prepaid card" with an expiration date of less than five years. The act was specifically passed to stop merchants from selling cards that quickly expired and then citing fine print. That seems to be exactly the practice of this establishment. Oh and despite what the business owner says. They don't tell you about the expiration date when you buy the card so his argument about don't buy it if you don't like the terms is ridiculous. They spring the expiration date later after you've already purchased and are using the card. read more

I've been going to this place the last two years for eyebrows, upper lip, and chin. I typically have a great experience. I haven't gone back since COVID, so it's been about 8 months. Today, I finally decided to go back. It's been about 20 minutes since I left and my upper lip and especially my chin still hurts. During the process, I felt like my skin was getting pulled. I thought that maybe it's been a while so of course I'd feel the pain. However, when I got back to my car, removed my mask, I saw so many cuts on my chin :"( and it hurts so much. As I said, this place is usually good and I can tolerate the pain. But today, it was a very poor job... I'm really sad because this place is convenient. However, if that means I have to drive a bit further to another place, at least I know it'll be a better job. read more

I went to Mary's for eyebrow threading on 12/18/21. During the process she kept wiping me eyelid with solution and telling me that me skin is very dry. I didn't know why she kept wiping and telling me how my skin is dry. During paying for the threading, my eyelid was stinging but I thought it's part of getting hair pulled out. I got in my car and my eyelid was still stinging and decided to check in mirror. I found that I have been cut and it was bleeding. I measured my cut to be 1/8" and it's a deep cut. I am very upset because she did not tell me that she cut me and did not apologized for it. I have been getting threading for 15 years by many technicians in many weather conditions and this is the first! If you cut and hurt your client, you should act ethically and inform your client. I will not recommend this place to anyone. Update: I just read the store manager's response. He really needs to read the reviews better. This is the second time I have been to Mary's and with different technician. I have been getting threading for 15 years and I think I know how to "hold it" correctly. I learned from reading that when technicians do not have proper amount of training, you cut people. Maybe perhaps instead of blaming the customer, you should train or hire a skilled technician so that you don't cut further clients. read more

"DO NOT GO" to Mary's Threading! They have deceptive selling practicing schemes when you buy their eyebrow threading "so-called" package deal. I too purchased this package before the pandemic hit. If you purchased the package..you should get your money's worth. That means all the 4+2= 6 threading sessions you purchased..so that means you have to honor it! I went back a little after the pandemic subsided & they re-opened. Of course, they said "it's too late..it's more than a year..sorry you lost what you purchased! So what, so what???? Honor it still!!! We lose what we purchased? Yes, indeed...that's their motto. I will be reporting them to the "Better Business Bureau!" "Mary's Threading" does deceptive selling practices where they should take in account this pandemic..even if it's within their expiration date of their expectations of when you had to come back. I live in Washington DC, and each time I come home to visit San Diego I am floored by how careful and considerate and talented the staff is here. Each time I come here, they help correct the mistakes made by other salons and find overgrown hairs to give my eyes a more balanced look. My eye brows were (apparently) unbalanced by other salons out of state -- and once they fixed it here at Mary's, my face actually looked symmetrical. I find out when I'm about to give her a tip that the lady forgot to write down a number on my name in the system so because of that she couldn't grant me my threading service and told me she had to charge me full price.
