I have eaten here 1/2 dozen times in recent years, today brought me here once again. I will openly say, as a lunch spot in Rock Hill area I know of no better spot. The food is well above typical lunch stops. And there options are many. Today I had Salmon steak grilled in onions, steamed cabbage and green beans. Very disappointing. The pot roast was tough and seemed to have been roasted and then heated up in a pan. Pork chops were actually pork steaks and had an odd flavor. The mashed potatoes tasted like they were instant. You do get a lot for your money but for me the quality and home style that I was hoping for were missing. read more

Tried Mary's for lunch on Friday for the first time and was really glad I stopped by. You seat yourself and the menu is under glass on the table. Simple southern food for the most part...a couple things on there are out of place (like Lo Mein?)... Waitresses were nice and welcoming. I got the country style steak with grave, fried squash, pintos with onions & chowchow, and mac-n-cheese...with cornbread. All were good, but pintos and squash were especially good. All this with take for under $8. Will become a regular lunch spot for me since I work nearby a couple times each week. read more

I don't mean to imply anything negative by a rating of "3". Mary's is a solid place for good blue collar food at a great price. Nothing is really special but nothing is bad either. The menu is typical of a southern diner. Pick a meat and three vegetables (or four vegetables) and it will cost you around six bucks. Everything that you might expect is on the menu - fried chicken, country fried steak, pinto beans, collard greens, fried okra, fried squash, steamed cabbage, etc. If you are looking for a good place for lunch at a great price then go to Mary's. You also need to take people from out of town there so that they can experience good old southern cooking. read more

I don't know understand how this cafe has such good ratings. Most of our food tasted like it had been made in a school cafeteria, frozen, and then warmed up for us. Our waitress said they had been closed for a week, so maybe that had something to do with it. The breeding on the fried green tomatoes and squash was really thick - seemed to be a corn mash mix of some sort. I sincerely doubt that they are hand-breaded there. Perhaps they are and they just made up a lot of extra ones the last week of June and then froze them. My husband said his meatloaf tasted odd - like it has jalepeno's in it. My breaded fried steak was ok, but nothing special. Our waitress was sweet and attentive. She's the reason for 3 stars instead of 2. Well that and the very reasonable prices. read more

My brother-in-law lives down here, and when visiting last week he took me to this spot-- an authentic, "meat & three vegg," spot. It was a filling meal, and the price was hard to beat, but I'm not sure if it's worthy of a full 5 star review from this one experience. I definitely recommend checking it out. The friendly service was quick and attentive. They earned an above average rating. I ordered the meatloaf, mac 'n cheese, collard greens and mashed potatoes with gravy. I put a little Texas Pete peppered vinegar on the collard greens, which helped the taste but it wasn't as good as some of the collard greens I've had. The meatloaf was pretty good, but the mac 'n cheese & mashed potatoes seemed pretty basic. I also tasted some fried okra. I was not sure how I felt about the batter, but overall it looked good and had a savory taste. But again, for the price this place is respectable. I could go back and order a completely different combination for the same price-- or less. I think for 3 meals w/ drinks it was about $22! If I had the chance to dig deeper and find other restaurants in the area I might have more reason to give it a better rating-- but as far as walking in hungry and leaving happy, Mary's does it just right. read more

Lived in Rock Hill for a long time and have never been here--until now. This is a hidden gem. The food is delicious and there are a lot of options. The value is also incredible. A very filling lunch for under $10. The restaurant is very clean and the staff are so sweet. My only compaint was that the cornbread was a little dry-- I chalked it up to coming in after the standard lunch crowd time so it may have been perfect around noon. read more

A coworker treated me to lunch. I chose the chicken salad sandwich with fries. The bread was toasted which I actually prefer. The chicken salad had a great taste. I do prefer chicken salad with more of a chunkier consistency but the taste was great I did not really notice. Marys is definately a great bargain for your buck. read more

This was the first restaurant we ate at after moving to Rock Hill and we've been fans since 2004, back when they were in the little building across the street.
