I get a feeling that they may like like gay people at MPCP as once they did. No smile. No (platonic) kiss. No (gentle) tap on the bubble butt. Nada! And they don't like gay folks calling for their spouses for help when the spouse is sick. It wasn't always that way. For over 30 years, a fine man, as well as physician, Dr. Chaconas, cared for my father and all of me, including several LGBT related parts, pieces, and whatnot. When Doctor Chaconas retired, I was assigned to a replacement physician, Dr. John Billom - kind of stuffy at first meet - but maybe he'll improve. NOPE! After the 2nd office visit with Dr. Billom, I was informed that the good doctor was not "comfortable" with continuing to treat the LGBT issues, as before. Going forward, I was told I needed to seek treatment elsewhere for my gay parts. No problemo! I quickly found Whitman Walker, which expertly provides primary care for all parts of my gay self. I changed Primary Care Providers and thought that was that. UNTIL... I got a stern sounding letter from MPCP that said I had been discharged for "non-compliance with prescribed treatment" "Hmmmm... prescribed treatment, I thought?" Wasn't my "prescribed treatment" that I should take my 'ding-a-ling' and other playful parts elsewhere for treatment? I did! Funny, how there were no calls before termination to warn of the dire violation I had somehow started to commit, nor any advice on how to avert my impending doom. Nope! None! So I called into the office. The cheerful voice of the person who answered, suddenly turned icy-cold as soon as I gave my name and date of birth. Oh well. Maybe I called in at a bad time - again. I referred to the letter and asked what was the "prescribed treatment" that I had not complied with. The lady said , now more brusquely, that she could not tell me that information. I asked why she couldn't tell me . She said she couldn't why I was no longer a patient because I was no longer a patient. Whoosh! Shades of guillotine! Oh well. No problem. I have a brand new, sparkling new doctor "place." They like us gay folks there. They really like us! UNTIL....2025 - My wife, who still a patient at MPCP ,has a medical emergency 100 miles away, while attending to her elderly mother. Having her hands quite full, I call MPCP and ask to speak to her CRNP, a very nice person who I met during office visits for my wife several times last year. (Another sudden arctic chill:) "No!" Why? "Because you're not a patient." Can you ask her to call me - my wife's hands are full - she is in the ER? "No!" Can you ask her provider to call her? Non-nonchalantly, very non-nonchalantly, "We'll pass it along." Hours later when I checked, it seemed not much had been passed along. My wife called later to see whether the office could email an Authorization to Discuss Patient Info form for to her to sign and return. You know, many many places use email these days - it's marvelous thing. "Yes, but she has to pick up the form at the office -in person." Let's see.. My wife, drives 100 miles , signs the form; then drives back another 100 miles. No, I don't the ER is going to like this. Next I try, "Can her husband pick up the form for her? " No! " (should have known.) Funny how I don't recall hearing as many "No!s" back when I was a patient, a good little complying patient. But not today. Tomorrow, on through the next century don't look promising either. We gay folk kind of recognize that change to very formal, very clipped speech whenever certain areas of discussion are entered. Happens all the time. But I was truly astounded seeing this act come off the lips of a professional, a physician? I guess MD PCP no longer means MD Primary Care Physicians. I have been a patient here and have had regular wellness checks and follow-ups with this office. I recently needed a sick visit and was turned away and told to seek urgent care. They are unreliable and unavailable. They did not even attempt to schedule an appointment further out in time frame. Back on my very first visit I pre-registered and filled out all the information requested, which took about 45 minutes online and when I visited the office all that information was lost according to the receptionist and I had to fill it all out again in the office. Then when I saw the nurse practitioner she claimed to have access to it. My recommendation is, don't take the time to fill it out online in advance, Wait until you visit the office and fill out the paperwork. read more

I'm very disappointed at my experience recently with Md primary care in Arnold. I communicated with my provider (whom I love) in July. No response. When I call the office staff who answers the phone is always a different person and most recently very rude. They tell me they will get back with an answer and the answer never comes. I also had a very unpleasant interaction with the office manger who was just as rude as the staff answering the phones. Management does set the tone for the culture of the other staff so things started making sense when I received the same treatment. The staff wil frequently intercept communication with the providers. I'm pretty sure the providers are not aware of the decision staff is making on the providers behalf and this is very troubling. This used to be a very pleasant office with helpful responsive staff and now they have been replaced with something else. Every time I come to an appointment it's always new faces.i have recently made the decision to terminate my relationship with this practice and it's solely based on the toxic office environment. Our provider, Julia Kimbrough CRNP is excellent. If you need a physical or routine visit and can schedule online, you'll be ok. But, if you're sick and need an appointment quickly, DON'T BOTHER CALLING THE OFFICE. They have very long wait times on hold. I have been seeing Dr. Ahmad for over a year since moving from California and his care has been outstanding. Dr Ahmad isn't afraid to spend the extra time required to make me feel comfortable with my treatment and to answer my questions. He is not afraid to provide an immediate referral should it appear that a patient may require another deeper look by a specialist such as a rheumatologist or an orthopedic physician. As on many occasions previously, she was friendly, welcoming, and professional. As a Pharma rep of 29 years, I know that front desk staff are the face of an office and give patients an impression of the entire practice's temperament and professionalism. Lori always makes a great impression in representing this practice. Today I also received help in a billing manner from Office Manager Pam. I waited all of 3 minutes before she stopped her day to assist me. Pam was prompt, friendly, and immediately helpful in resolving this question. My physician there, Dr. Billon, is a fine clinician who seems to care and do a thorough job, however, the front door staff are cold and indifferent - they make me feel like a cog in a large machine. If I try to send a facsimile of something to them, frequently it is lost (apparently). Phoning, one gets transferred and can wait for a long time before anyone notices the hold button blinking on their phone . . . Impossible to get a refill on expired medication except to drop by the office. Their "new" website there is a button to refill active prescriptions, however, since they are using a new website, NONE of my old active prescriptions have been loaded. Further, there "message" system on the website is not active leaving one to phone (Ugh) or drop by (the only way to get service. read more

I would rather go to the DMV than ever come here. Since becoming a patient here my life expectancy has dropped 25 years. I showed up 30 minutes early for my appointment, hoping that maybe, just maybe, I would actually be seen at my scheduled appointment time. Once again, I am approaching my first hour in the waiting room and I would not be surprised if I'm here the whole day. If you live in the area and looking for a health practice, I would suggest approaching your nearest neighborhood squirrel, as they are likely more professional and faster than this excuse for a doctors office. read more

The practice feels like just another conglomerate patient mill. The downstairs office is dated and rundown. The people working here for the most part are okay, not very warm/welcoming. The bedside manner of the care givers are just okay. Despite arriving on time for appts, it wasn't unusual for me to be left sitting in the exam room for 20+ minutes before being seen, this on top of waiting in the waiting area for 10+ minutes. They also had a practice of holding prescription refills hostage to force you to make return appointments - they don't make money refilling prescriptions. After a few years of dealing with that nonsense and haggling with the office to get my scripts refilled, I finally had enough and signed up with another practice. read more

My husband and I are new to the area and apparently he made us appointments back in May as new patients to get established with this office as it's closest to our home but somehow in between being new parents and owning a home we forgot our appointments. When I just tried to make them again I was told we were no longer able to become patients in their office since we missed our new patient appointments because "that's their policy." OH FORGIVE ME, YOU HAVE NEVER FORGOTTEN/MISSED AN APPOINTMENT IN YOUR LIFE!? YEA, OK. On top of that the office manager who I was speaking with was nothing short of rude. Unbelievable that this is considered legal to essentially blacklist potential patients on their first "offense." Thanks for nothing!! I wouldn't recommend this practice to anyone. I was a patient of the same practice but with Dr Bruce Conger at the Columbia office, for 8 years too long. There was not a single appointment that was on-time with this office, apparently they don't only double, triple and probably quadruple book their patients to make sure that they maximize ever penny. He not only stole many hours from me but also took years of finding decent help with my health conditions, that he did not (or could not) figure out properly on his own. I now have heart damage as a possible result from his lack of attention and care, if he would have medicated for this routine condition then quite possibly I would not be on 3 different meds now trying to keep the damage from getting worse and keep the damn thing working for a while longer. I am 39 now with non-reversible heart damage, that was treatable back then if he only cared enough to spend more than a couple of minutes before running off to the next room!!!! read more

First, you should know that Maryland Primary Care Physicians has several office locations in Maryland. The address listed here on Peninsula Road is in Arnold, but that's not the Arnold location. It looks like that was an old Broadneck location. The Arnold location is on Ritchie Highway. Looks like there are separate Yelp pages for each location (or many of the locations). At least one review here mentions the Columbia location, and most other reviews don't mention a location at all. So, if you came here looking for reviews on the Arnold location on Ritchie Highway, just know that some of these reviews may not be referring to this location. I have been a patient at the Arnold location for several years (4?). Dr. Victor Plavner has been my PCP, and I did see a Nurse Practitioner (NP) once. I can't remember ever waiting more than 15 minutes to be seen. My experience is that they operate pretty much on schedule. The NP visit was scheduled on no notice and I was worked in within 24 hours. All of my visits have been pretty routine, so I can't really speak to their ability to diagnose serious conditions or make proper referrals. But as far as routine healthcare and an occasional illness visit, they have been more than adequate. I did have an issue with a regular prescription. It was originally filled by one doctor outside the practice and then it was switched to Dr. Plavner. Unbeknownst to me, my file had been noted incorrectly that the prescription was regularly being filled by two different doctors, so every time I called to get it filled I would get questioned. It wasn't until I found out about the note that the problem was solved (by asking the doctor to change his notes). This was a breakdown in communication between doctor and staff that is fairly common in large primary care practices these days. Am I going to campaign for these guys and tell people they should switch to join this practice? No. Probably not. But if you're new to the area and need a PCP they are certainly worth giving a shot. read more

I have been going to this place for many years. It is like an assembly line. When they take your blood pressure, they start it as soon as you sit down, instead of waiting several minutes for your heart to relax. The folks at the front desk are very, very good. Whenever I have had a problem with appointments, etc, they have always come through for me. The doctors are nice people, but, once again, they always seem to be in a hurry. I have considered going elsewhere, but have not yet found another place that is not the same. read more

This is my primary care doc! They have a couple of doctors and nurse practitioners. The wait it never long. When they call your name, they take you back to weigh you and get your vitals. They have a lab in house for blood and urine so you don't need to go off site for more testing for the most part. They will refer you to a specialist if need be. They have urgent care hours and are open extra hours during the week M-Th 5-8p. Definitely call ahead to schedule an appt. But if the only time you can go is after work hours, then they have you covered. Everyone is friendly and professional. I would recommend this doctor! read more

Very Sad ...this place used to be nice, but all of the doctors started to retire, and instead of hiring new doctors they replaced them with Nurse Practitioners ...of course costs and billing stayed the same! I needed a refill on my medicine but I was told their policy required a physical not just a blood test, and since my doctor retired this year, the only availability they had was a nurse practitioner. So I had no choice but to go ahead and scheduled the appointment. I had to fast 12 hours before the blood draw. When I went in I was 10 minutes late, which is my fault but honestly it is because I have a disability. Their office was almost empty and not busy, but the nurse practitioner still wouldn't see me and told them I would have to reschedule. ...Fine! Whatever! I'll go to the cash clinic whenever I want, without an appointment, and you can take your mandatory physical, your rescheduling fee, your poor service, and shove them up your Nurse Practitioner's stuck-up, pretending-be-a-doctor's ass! read more

I've been going to the Arnold office for over 25 years. Seeing Dr. Chaconas, until he retired. I've been seeing Dr. Billon since then and have always been pleased by the healthcare I receive. I like having the lab on site and the staff has always been friendly to me, especially when calling in for an appointment, prescription renewal, or other reasons. I've have 3 or 4 minor problems in close to 30 years. Not bad at all, considering I've messed at least that many times, forgetting appointments, arriving late, etc. I use my primary care physician a lot. I have never had to wait more than 15 minutes. If I've needed care immediately, they always work me in with at least a nurse practitioner. read more

Dr. Ashbeck is my primary care physician at this location, and I've never had a problem with him. As a nurse, I tend to be pretty critical of doctors, but Dr. A always takes the time to listen to me, ask my opinion, and get my input on any treatment plans he wants to recommend. On occasion, I've had to see a nurse practitioner, and have always been treated well. The staff are friendly and responsive, and I've never had to wait more than 15 minutes to be seen. The office is clean and the location is very convenient, right off College Parkway & Ritchie Highway (across from AACC), and next to a pharmacy, dentist, and several other practices. They've also added some extended evening hours and weekend appointments, which is nice for those of us who work long hours during the week. read more

DO NOT USE THIS FACILITY!!! The doctors come and go so there is NO constant with your health!!! I've been through 3 doctors in less than 2 years so for some reason even the doctors aren't treated right here - I heard they have been going to Kaiser for some reason. Every time I need a prescription refill and my doctor has left I have to go back in to see someone else for a full checkup before I can get my blood pressure meds - that's bs!
