We went through the whole online quiz to find out core attachment patterns and though the information and initial consultation was oddly insightful, it didn't fully address the elephant in the room; the affair. We went straight through to addressing our past traumas, and it sincerely didn't help that I apply in almost all types of trauma listed. In the few sessions we had, it helped us understand a few things about ourselves, but with work and priorities, it became hard to practice outside of the appts and unfortunately we never discussed a chance for each of us to talk to her separately. And this was the one thing I really wished was required. Would marriage counseling be able to detect abuse? I really wished they did every time, cause then we can talk about my suicide attempt and being on suicide watch on two separate occasions, we could've talked about how my boss mentioned signs of domestic abuse and I scoffed it off but it planted a horrible revelation. We could've talked about how I'm feeling so afraid and so controlled, I was convinced I shouldn't have even felt this way, that immediately after stating my suspicions of being an abusive relationship I was told to be very careful what I'm accusing, and the one person who can see all that with me can't. My trauma now becomes the final blow in every argument, I'm emotionally muted, and I'm trying so hard to feed the fire of my will enough to stay alive. Even my prior therapist said she isn't a good therapist. I wish I spoke up more about it with her, I suppose I have no excuse. Anyways, if you're going through a domestic or emotional abuse, don't go here.

Over the years she has helped me come out of my shell, build a stronger relationship with myself and truly understand the importance of self care and self love. Even in the most challenging sessions, I've always felt supported by her deep compassion and understanding. I had tried other forms of therapy before, but I didn't see results and eventually gave up on the idea completely. Finding Edie at Gova Counseling changed that, therapy has since become a consistent source of growth and encouragement for me. The best thing about this team is that everyone you meet is genuinely friendly. Even as technology evolved and COVID took away face-to-face interactions for a while, the human connection at Gova Counseling never disappeared. This is my SECOND review for Edie. This review comes after my BAD review for Edie was mysteriously…read moretaken down on ratemds website. First of all, I would like to say you know it's bad when your therapist has more problems than you! I went to Edie for about three months to help me cope with my fathers terminal cancer news. When my father died, I was very at peace with his passing knowing he passed when we were on great terms. I'd like to say that I came to this realization not because she's a great problem solver, but because she was someone other than my mom and immediate family. I sorted out these feelings on my own. After my dad died she started telling me that I had all these abandonment issues and he was never there for me and if I saw her for a longer period of time, we could work on that. That really upset me because my dad NEVER abandoned me nor did he neglect me. Why would someone say that AFTER the fact that he died and there's nothing I can do about these "feelings" she's making up. BEWARE OF SEEING EDIE. She is very MONEY HUNGRY. She will create problems that don't exist so you see her for a longer period of time. Mo' problems, mo' money. I say this because when I initially met with Edie I knew exactly what my problem(s) were, I just didn't know how to solve them. Edie preys on weaker individuals and tricks them into thinking they have all these problems when they don't. Edie also has tunnel vision. She comes up with assumptions about things & people which are not true and she can't get her thoughts together and see that not everyone is the same!!! Also, when I asked her to cancel all my future appointments, she went CRAZY! She called & texted like everyday for a few days. She left a bunch of voicemails that kept getting longer and longer as the days went by. Edie also resorted to a voicemail asking me to call her back because the "front office" brought up an "issue of concern". When I called the front office, they had NO IDEA what I was talking about. Edie is a liar who will manipulate you into seeing her!

With COVID having affected and changed so many lives in more ways than one since March 2020 (well…read moreover a year now as of this writing), psychologists and therapists have been in such high demand! I came across DalyBeth and Positive Health Hawaii after searching around for places that had openings and/or were accepting new patients, which as expected was super hard to come by and especially within a short time. Having been living alone and hardly able to see the closest friends for the last year now along with dealing with lots of tension within another organization that I'm working for on a part-time basis, I've been trying to seek help with my mental health and depression that has literally taken its toll on my life, I am very thankful for DalyBeth! She has been willing to listen to my situation and stories and has made plenty of helpful suggestions on helping myself relieve stress from my life. Now although I haven't gotten to some of them quite yet and admittedly may not be comfortable doing certain ones just yet, I've taken lots of notes and been trying to put her advice to great use. I'll definitely be consulting with DalyBeth periodically and again very soon, and hopefully I'll get to meet her in-person. Right now, lots of these psychologists and therapists are doing telehealth sessions or through online sources like ZOOM (not a fan of virtual events, quite frankly).

This is the only center available close to our home and on O'ahu back in 2017. 3/5 stars: Licensed Clinical Psychologist and staff of first evaluation for being on point regarding one out of two Dx for my son. Second Dx was a misdiagnosis when we brought him back a few years later for reevaluation. That's now been corrected with two more Dx that are on point. We've been instructed to have him return in a few years. Lots of paperwork to bubble in, write and sign consent forms. Waiting for results takes three months. For instance, if testing gets completed in April, expect scheduling results to be ready three months later, example in July. Wonderful news is all testings and evaluations were covered under my son's medical insurance. Services utilized: 5/5 stars: Social Skills Group: My son attended at age 4, loved it and went every Saturday for ten sessions. Out of pocket expense and not covered under insurance. It's unfortunate the instructor no longer works here and this program is not available. 0/5 stars: Note: I inquired with Licensed Clinical Psychologist in advance what are her thoughts about enrolling our son in Kumon Reading offered at many locations on O'ahu since cost is cheaper per month after receiving reevaluation. LCP highly advised against it without reason or evidence. My biggest regret is I've should've listened to my own intuition and enrolled him elsewhere for tutoring earlier. 1/5 stars: OG Tutoring a.k.a Orton-Gillingham Tutoring: Highly recommended by Licensed Clinical Psychologist for twice a week sessions. There's only one OG Tutor available part-time on Wednesday afternoons and Saturdays mornings only. My son attended in-person sessions from twice a week which eventually dwindled to once a week for a total of 10 months which was mostly due to instructor cancelling sessions on us. Independent consultant charged $50 cash or check only per 1 hour session. We're spending $400-$500 per month of our own money. When my son did testing with the center and at his school on two separate dates, test scores showed slight improvement only by a few points. My son still had difficulty reading words and sentences. Last straw for us was when independent consultant casually strolls in five minutes late without no attempted phone call or text to give a heads up or apologize while we're rushing from his baseball game to arrive here on time. No consideration for time. Not once but twice. Good thing we're able to claim OG Tutoring under medical expenses during tax season. Good news is he's receiving tutoring services elsewhere, flourished in a shorter amount of time, test scores are much higher in school, progressing quicker, and we're saving more money per month.
