I have a Trane HVAC unit in my apartment, and I had some questions about it. I got a prompt response from the company, and found them highly professional to deal with. I looked at their website, and saw that they do duct cleaning, and the reasons for doing it. I called on July 3rd and I said I would like to hire them for the service. I gave them the square footage and and overview. They said they could see me on July 5th at 9AM. At 8:59AM a serviceman arrived. He explained what he was going to do and then went about cleaning the ducts. He said there was a moderate amount of dirt, and that he has seen worse. After he cleaned the ducts he vacuumed the unit itself, and then blew a chemical into the ducts that would kill any bacteria that happened to be there. I thought it was good precaution to take. He also showed me a better way to put the filter in the unit. I gave them 5 stars -- only because they didn't have an option for 6 stars. I made an appointment with them to come service my HVAC system. They were to arrive between 12-2pm. At 1215pm I receive a call that they were not going to come today because two employees didn't show up for work. I had scheduled my day around them coming--they didn't know the employees didn't come to work until 1215? There was no way they could have let me know sooner and respected my time? They asked if I wanted to reschedule for the next day or wait until they knew whether they'd be able to make the appointment I made. Wait, what? They're offering to give me another appointment window that they don't think they can make? Why would I ever take that option? I've decided to go with someone else. I wonder if Kanze would charge me a no-show fee if I wasn't at my house at the designated time... read more

Friendly service and competitive pricing. However, their installation technicians cut corners left and right. Over the past few years since my AC was installed, I found ductwork and vent grilles that came loose because they weren't properly secured. In hindsight, I would have paid more for better attention to detail. read more

Massively overcharged me for an AC capacitor replacement. Over $507 for 20 minutes on the job, which included "diagnostic" and replacement of a part that costs less than $100 on line. Have spoken with several contractors since and they rolled their eyes... "you were totally ripped off." read more

The heater blower was not working on our furnace. I called Marvin Kanze for a repair. The technician said he would need to replace the circuit board for $700 but was not sure it would fix the problem. He recommended a whole new system and charged me $130 for the visit and assessment. Mr. Kanze called me himself to schedule an appt to install a new system. Then I googled "heater blower not working." The blogs said it was most likely the blower motor capacitor. So I ordered an $8 blower motor capacitor and it took less than a minute to replace the old one. And the system fired right up and works great. Mr Kanze told me the technician was his most experienced. Really? Not recommended! read more

I called Marvin Kanze HVAC to service AC units in my home. The first visit went well enough. They told me I needed one pretty expensive fix that included a $400+ part, as well as some additional work done, all to address a single wall unit. When I called to get a quote, they misquoted me, but called back to correct their error. So far, no big deal. They then realized they hadn't gotten the model info they needed from my unit to order the correct parts. When they sent a tech to obtain that info, they'd already parted ways with the tech they sent out the first time. Never a good sign. The new tech was extremely awkward, but he did tell me I didn't actually need the expensive fix at all. Hmm. He also told me that they have very little experience with that particular repair, so that it would be a learning process for them. Yikes. At least this guy was honest about it. During the third visit to perform the repair, the same awkward tech was even more awkward (borderline creepy). I left him alone to work, but when I popped my head in the room (once) he informed me that it "annoys him" when customers watch him work. From start to finish, the work took over two months. It required me to call Kanze quite a few times to check on parts, because initially they had only ordered some of the parts required for the repair, but not all of them. In other words, they kept losing track of what the job required. The nutshell is that I'm not at all comfortable with this company. Also, in my opinion, they are quite expensive. read more

It started off well, during the first appointment/ diagnosis. They needed to order 2 parts for my AC/heating unit. On the second visit, the technician realized one of the parts ordered was wrong -- they ordered the wrong part!!! Or the company sent them the wrong part? So they couldn't do anything and had to wait for the new part to come in. Then there were holidays and companies were closed. It felt like I had to keep calling them to remind them I still have no heat and it is 20 degrees outside. The lady answering the phone had a super attitude and never said her name either. Finally, the third visit, everything was installed. However, when he gave me the bill, the part that was ordered incorrectly was more money that no one told me about. Also, they charged me an extra 3% to pay with credit card, which no one told me about. I'm happy my heat is working now, but it is also took 2 plus weeks to be fixed (first visit was 12/14 and third visit was 1/3). read more

Not to be trusted. Will preface by saying I had Marvin Kanze install the central air in my house last summer and they did a good job (although did not explain how the thermostat for the central air worked). I asked my contractor to install a thermostat for the boiler and bought one. He gave them a call and they sent someone. Impossible to install, 1 hour down, at 140$. I am told this is my mistake as I bought the thermostat myself. They have to come back with a wire. I can understand that and am OK with it. I ask how long it will take them to install and am told one hour. I say OK. They come back while I am at work and stay 4 hours1/2 with 2 men, without calling me to let me know that this is not working. They have to come back a third time with their own thermostat and install it. Total: $1000 for the whole saga. Not a way to deal with customers. read more

HORRIBLE customer service. I called them last Tuesday around 8:15am because my heater wasn't working. The lady took my info and said someone would call me shortly. I waited until after 1:00pm and hadn't heard back so I called again. The lady gave me an attitude, saying "Aaron is deciding who will call you back" and I NEVER. HEARD. BACK. Guess they didn't want my business which is fine because I'll never call them again. UPDATE 11/16/16: I did receive a nice message from one of the owners apologizing for the bad service I received. He said the person involved got a talking to and they are going to improve their customer service but I am still going to keep my review online to hold them accountable. Never again, they original installed my system and since I never really had a lot of problems, would called very little for service. But this last call was the worst. From a service tech that was scared of his own shadow to a lack of information about what is going on with heater, to wanting to charge me $1,500 for something that I am still not sure about and an eye roll when asked to explain. After all that and charging me $140. If you really didn't want my business you should have told me that before I make the appointment, so we could have stopped wasting everyone's time. I called at 7am, they answered the phone! I was told they would have a guy to the house around 1pm and low and behold, a truck pulled up at 12:55. The team was punctual, priced fairly, friendly and competent. They put those little booties on their shoes to keep our carpets clean. They found the issues and fixed the problem. This firm installed a water heater that didn't work from day one. I called the next day saying I got less than one hot shower from the new 80 gallon water heater I just purchased. They pointed in every possible direction of why I couldn't take a single hot shower - except the water heater they just installed: "the outside temperature is too cold!" "you need a crossover valve ($625) "You can still wash dishes in hot water can't you?..." After a month of them jerking me around I finally had another firm install a new water heater and told Marvin Kanze he can come an get his tank or I'd leave it in the front of my house with a big note and his name on it. They came and got it. Looking back, I wondered why they delivered a water heater that wasn't in a new box (they said they opened it at their shop.) Now I believe they installed one that was used - and didn't work, so they tried selling it to me. Wonder who they sold it to next... It was a month of cold water showers for me and my family, and a real headache to deal with these people. read more

My central ac unit stopped working over a week ago. That same day Jon came out for an estimate. We decided to use Marvin E Kanze for several reasons: 1) They are family owned and operated 2) The professionalism 3) I knew that they weren't going to nickel and dime me. In fact my estimate was actually more than the final price. It took about a week for installation only because a custom coil had to be ordered. Damien and Justin (the service men) were awesome. They worked neatly and efficiently. They also were super friendly and knowledgeable. They took their time and actually found an issue with my heater vents. Because I have a service contract with another company for my oil heat, they wrote down everything they found so I could let the heater repairman know.
