This place isn't worth coming to under any circumstances. The check-in process for a day pass takes 20 minutes and they don't take cash. Everyone who works here is rude and unhelpful. We planned our July 4th trip back in March with another family, just like we did last year. We specifically reserved RV sites next to each other so we could camp together. When we checked in, our sites had been changed. We were told they wouldn't move us back because one of the two reservations hadn't paid the $40 "lock-in" fee. I even offered to pay the fee at check-in so we could get our original sites back, but they refused. To make matters worse, the sites we originally reserved ended up sitting empty half our stay with no RVs in them. The front desk experience only made things worse. As we calmly expressed our disappointment and tried to explore whether there was any way to move us back to our reserved sites, the employee accused us of "raising heck." She then abruptly asked if we wanted a refund rather than trying to help resolve the situation. The interaction came across as rude and dismissive, and there was very little effort made to provide good customer service. I've been coming to Marval since I was a kid, and it's always been one of my favorite places to camp. That's what made this experience so disappointing. I'm not sure if there's new ownership or a change in management, but it feels like the focus has shifted toward nickel-and-diming customers instead of providing the great customer service Marval used to be known for. I hope this was just an isolated experience, but after reading other reviews it seems to be a constant problem. read more

We have been coming to Marval for at least 6 years. We have stayed in cabins and in an RV. This year, I called a few days before arriving to extend our stay one night. I was told at that call that we had been moved. We had not paid the $40 lock in fee. We were going with our family, three trailers together, and they had moved us apart. There was no one in our site, so she kindly moved us back. However, upon arrival, we were told we had been moved because we had not paid the $40 lock in fee. She did not want to move us back, but finally did. They also moved our son and daughter-in-law out of their spot as well. We have never paid the lock-in fee and have never been moved before. That is ridiculous, with the prices they already charge, to have to pay $40 to keep a campsite where there's no one even staying. Our neighbors had been moved from their cabin and taken away from their whole family group, and there was no one in the cabins that they had rented together. Again, ridiculous! And..... they close early before most people even come in. There is no notification ahead of time if you got moved! So you show up, they are closed, you get a key and go to a different spot! How convenient for Marval!! Secondly, it is ridiculous to pay five dollars plus tax to paint a rock! Rocks are plentiful and paint??? Really?? The pools were incredibly dirty, full of ants, bugs and hair, but did get some better throughout the weekend. We have always enjoyed our time at Marval, but the new management and "new system" has made a difference! Next year we are thinking seriously of moving our family event somewhere else. We just came back from Marval. Fantastic time was had! We took our 5 grandchildren and they had a blast! Many things to do for them, but the river was the best. Gambinos Pizza delivers and it's amazing! We definitely will be back! we stayed Sun thru Wed so it wasn't crazy busy like the weekends. It isn't a "Resort", so if you want pampered go find a resort. Four days of fun with family Activities all over the place. We loved the pedal carts. The people who worked at Marval were very kind and patient. Our cabin was nice. 1. HORRIBLE MANAGEMENT - Jamie, manager of Marval RV Resort was left numerous messages as we were told by an office employee we were no longer able to stay at Marval or have our reunion there. We have been going there since 2020. Jamie never returned the phone calls. In the end I wrote her an email and she responded that say we were no longer able to stay at Marval or have our reunion as we parked on the grass, cars blocked areas where trailers drove through and a camper was in disagreement with her. 2. Jamie, manager of Marval RV Resort said we had numerous issues however could not let us know what they were. Even though we have been coming there since 2020, we never had issues with Marval. Jamie is new this year and based on other reviews takes great pleasure on her "power trip". She is not customer oriented, does not introduce herself when she is in the campground riding around looking for violations, not friendly at all! I would go so far to say she is devious. 3. Marval is not ADA compliant with their pavilion - had a 96 yo legally blind woman and an 86 yo woman who is disabled walking - there is no accessible ramp to pavilion. There are no handrails to hold on to, there is a high step to go up. There is no accessible parking for handicapped, car was parked on grass by pavilion. We are no longer welcome to return to Marval due to one of a couple reasons - parking on grass and not abiding by quiet hours. This is not why I am making this report. There are AMERICAN DISABILITY ACT issues that need to be fixed. An ADA issue was reported for violations. 4. Laundry room was locked and not operable. We had to go to Gore. 5. Some showers in public bathroom did not have hot water 6. We used to have access to the Club House for free based on number of trailer campers and number of cabins rented - beginning in 2024 we started to get charged $400 7. Each person who is not staying at Marval must have a pass to get in - it is $12 per person per day - even if you are coming in just to visit family 8. The loft with 2 beds above does not accommodate any adults even tho it is advertised as such. There were 4 in the cabin and 2 slept on bed, the other 2 had to sleep on the futon which barely had any cushion. read more

While I appreciate the effort put into providing a variety of family fun activities that the kids enjoyed, the actual accommodations need significant improvement. The presence of mold and mildew in the shower made it unusable, and the overall upkeep of the facility is lacking. The floors and baseboards are dirty, and many light fixtures either don't work or have missing bulbs. The most concerning issue is the apparent water damage and mold problems. Visible signs of water issues, such as old ceiling patch jobs, and the mold have caused several of us to experience symptoms like runny noses, eye irritations, headaches, and coughing. The "bring a pet and pay a $300 cleaning fee" is a joke, the floors here are so gross I wouldn't let my child play on it. I hope the owners address these critical issues to ensure a healthier and more pleasant stay for future guests, but I won't ever be back here. read more

My Family, The Sanders/Hogan Family Reunion, has been coming here for decades. We would always rent 10-15 cabins for 3-6 days. Usually the 2nd week of July. This year, most of us will not attend. Management could care less if they keep customers or not. I guess demand is so great they can be total jerks and still not hurt their bottom line. They lose our registrations, bump the prices and lower the accommodations every year well in excess of inflation. Check-in is a nightmare, and all the while manage to be the rudest proprietors you could imagine. (Like "sitcom" kind of rude) Every year they demand a little more up-front, and add a few new restrictions. We had a lot of good memories there, but I'm never going back. You can't check in until 4pm, but the office closes at 5pm. They leave the keys in a box that just anyone can access. If you reserved a golf cart, and don't make it until 5 or after, then you're just SOL for the night and have to get it the next day. Was told total cost of the golf cart would not be pro-rated. An hour window to check in is asinine. Accommodations not terribly accommodating. No wonder so many RV spots are open. 2 stars given as the Christmas lights are pretty. Will not return. read more

They have a lot for the kids to do. Our kids enjoyed the bouncing pad. We had problems with our tow vehicle and one of the guys that worked there was kind enough to help look at and patch it up. We had an absolutely wonderful first trip to Marval. However, we won the cabin decorating contest during the Halloween festivities this year and forgot to pick up our certicate for a two night stay in a deluxe cabin. We called when we were only one hour away and were reassured they would keep this for us and we could call to book our next stay at Marval. I called today to do so and was told by the general manager Stacy that I was given the wrong information by her staff and that maybe had I called within a week to rebook or turned around to get the paper certificate this would have been honored. I am extremely disappointed in this response when I was reassured that we did not need to turn around to get the certificate. I am also very disappointed in the way I was dismissed on the phone and told there was nothing she could do to make this right. read more

Dirty, smelly, old cabins. We rented three deluxe cabins for our family for thanksgiving. There was nothing deluxe about them! They were dirty, smelly, gross and old. The blinds were very dirty, broke, did not fit windows, holes in the walls, rusted bathroom sink, dirty floors, smelled bad, lights flickered, shower's did not drain, leaking plumbing, dirty grout, gaps in walls. Not acceptable. These are not the ones our family stayed in before. These are the ones that are dog friendly! They are gross, dirty, and should not be rented!! read more

I really can't say enough good things about our weekend at Marval. We rented one of the one bedroom/deluxe cabins. The cabin was clean and had all the essentials. It was surprisingly roomy with the set up. Loved the screened in porch. The resort had to have been at full capacity, yet never seemed obnoxiously loud. Where I really think Marval shines is the family friendly atmosphere. So many activities for kids (ours are 6yr and 2.5yr): Movie night with glow sticks and popcorn, scavenger hunt, candy bar bingo, all day water wars (which a majority of campers participated), horseshoe tournament, and the activity center was filled with crafts they could do-rain or shine. It was so refreshing to see kids riding bikes and skipping rocks in the river, adults sitting outside talking and playing cards, and people spending time outside instead of just watching tv or their phones. read more

After many, many years of taking my kids here, I will never ever spend another dime with them. I'm the guy that *rarely ever* complains about a bad experience online, and always gives a glowing review when I can. In this case I want to warn anyone that might consider going, they should be aware what they're walking into. The site we paid for was $75... Long story ahead, but the way we were treated was unfathomable, and I hope nobody EVER experiences anything like it there again. We arrived Thursday and our site was under water, but a couple guys were trying to pump water so they started helping me figure out how to get in the site. Ended up parking backwards, unable to use the sewer hookup I paid for, and they got the water to drain with a sump pump just enough to hook up the utilities without being under water. I asked the office if there was anything they could do, and was told "Well you can go home if you don't want to deal with it" - mind you these sites are all reserved a year ahead, so the kids and their friends I brought would be devastated if I took that option. I sucked it up and made the best of it. Overnight, it rained again, and these pictures are how we woke up the next morning. I called and spoke with a sweet lady, told her we were trapped, I mean who wants to get out in 4-6" of water when there's electric lines connected in the middle of the water? I simply asked if she could let the kind gents know that had so kindly tried to help the day before, maybe they could bring their sump pump. She called me back 5 minutes later, said "I'm so sorry to tell you this, but when I went over the walkie to say y'all needed help, the ladies in the office immediately replied with "DON'T BOTHER"... I thought, oh gosh I wish you wouldn't have told me that... She went on to say the guy over housekeeping also said "Yeah don't bother"... I pleaded for them to just get in a golf cart and come *look* at how bad it was. Nope. Nothing. At that point the lady said they have water shoes in the office they could sell me. Sooooo, we stayed in the camper all day. No offer to drag a table over to help us get out, nothing. Eventually a kind neighbor brought over a pallet so we could get out. Of course on the 3rd day, it started drying out, and the kids eventually got to experience the fun halloween activities, despite the absolutely horrific customer "service" at this place. Mid-day a friend camping down the road caught one of the very awesome maintenance guys and informed them of our situation, and he brought his pump down to try and help too. I hope they actually fix this site, or get rid of it so people don't get totally screwed like we did. Be warned, if you have any issues at Marval, they will likely tell you "You can go home if you don't like it"... read more

The activities for the children were great and well organized. There was a lot offer for the children and most were free! This is why I gave it a 4 star. The camp grounds, pool and restrooms were clean and well kept. UNFORTUNATELY the cabin was dirty, dusty not well maintained. The dirt was not just places missed due to a quick turn around but old dirt that had not been clean for a while. The front French door had black marks all around the door handle. when I opened the pullout couch there was chips on top of the mattress and on the inside of the mattress there was old bark and dust. In the kitchen the plastic braining board had old dried up dirt which could be spotted as soon as you opened the cupboard door. There was dust and dirt in the corners and the screened in porch also dirty, grubby and need of maintenance. I don't think it had been cleaned in months. When I reported this to the staff they apologized and said they were short staff, but this was old neglected dirt. There was not sufficient crockery for the number of people staying in the cabin. we had 2 mugs, 3 spoons etc. On the website pictures of the cabins the cabins appeared much larger. The loft (2nd bedroom) was so tight that the children were bumping their heads. A normal sized adult would be very uncomfortable sleeping up there. There is no space to hang your clothes and the hot water to the shower was very on and off. On a positive note all the staff were friendly and helpful. The children really enjoyed "roughing it" experience and it is in a real beautiful setting. We will go back with much lower expectations and I hope by then the problems surrounding the cleaning and maintenance of the cabins has been rectified read more

Never stay here! We got severely bitten by beg bugs over a year ago. Our family has been going here for many years so we thought we would give it another chance now that it's under new management. After one night, we all had bed bug bites all over us. It was a cold December night and we were inside mostly and there was a screened porch so no risk of mosquitoes. Management did not care and proceeded to rent the cabin out again after that and did not believe us even though the majority of cabins on site were mysteriously vacant yet also unavailable. I peeked in and it looked like the one we stayed in before while it was being treated for bed bugs. Do not stay here. Upon checking in to MarVal for a three night cabin stay, the office staff was very busy, unorganized and "Barb" seemed annoyed having to check us in. I signed several waivers including one for the golf-cart rental that identified that my sons were both over 18. I paid the bill, was given a list of rules and was informed that the "free wifi"code was for one person / one device. I wasn't welcomed and they forgot to give me the cabin keys. I had to come back for those. We rented a golf cart and the assistant manager stopped my 20-year-old son to ask if he was 18. Later that day, the same ast. manager stopped my husband asking which cabin we were in and if our son was 18. He's 20! He didn't say: "Welcone to MarVal. We're glad you're here. How's your cabin? Are you enjoying your stay? Is there anything I can help you with?" The cabin and was dirty. The kitchen stove top had two burners that were broken. The pots, pans, dishes, silverware and utensils were old and random. One of the three kitchen drawers was busted. The oven was filthy. The fireplace had trash in it. The remote for the tv was broken. The futon was so dirty we covered it with a sheet. The bathroom was dirty and underneath the sink was an empty beer bottle. The front porch screen was ripped open. When we checked out this morning, I turned in a list to the front desk of things that were broken in our cabin. She didn't read it, didn't ask "how was your stay?" or "thanks for visiting". If these issues are because MarVal is crammed full of campers and they are short staffed, then that's the owners fault. They have a nice campground but it's WAY over-priced and too crowded. We were not treated as guests; rather, we felt like we were being policed by the staff. read more

We had my husband's family reunion there , Youngblood , Bell Benton, Coleman and Foreman , on the 8-10th of September. Everyone had a great time, the cabins were beautiful and clean. The Clubhouse was just what we needed, very nicely maintained. The staff was so helpful and friendly, they answered all of our questions with a smile ! It was our first visit but it definitely won't be our last ! There was so much for the kids to do and see, the water was beautiful and clear. I set my chair out in it and relaxed. I am part of a large family reunion that visits the property each year. I have stayed here 4 or 5 times and it's been fine. However, I was there last week and am now covered in bedbug bites. I haven't traveled anywhere else in over a year and had no problems or bites at home prior to this trip so we can logically conclude it's the cabin that was infested. Bites can take 2-14 days to appear. I checked out on August 1, 2021 so I'm right in that window. Pest control showed up twice while I was there and appeared surprised that the cabin was occupied. They didn't tell me why they were there but this makes me feel like this was a known issue to the management. When I checked in on July 28, there was a table in the office with masks and a sign saying that masks in common areas were required, yet not a single member of the staff was wearing one. They said that was going into effect the next day. Upon checkout a few days later, that table was gone and so was any concept of wearing masks. The management was much friendlier than prior years so those issues seem to have been resolved. The wifi was incredibly spotty and many of my family members had no signal at all from their cabins/sites. Overall, the new management does seem to be doing a much better job. In prior years, they were literally the "fun police" who overly enforced the rules. It's a more relaxed environment now. However, all of that is negated by the bedbug infestation. Do not recommend staying here. read more

My family rented 3 cabins over Labor Day weekend. Overall our experience was good, just wasn't to happy about the cleanliness of the cabins, since we had little ones in them. The floors were not clean at all, so we had to sweep them and then mopped them with a rag since there wasn't a mop in the cabin. The main issue with cleaning was the edges and corners especially in the bathroom. Dirt and grime were caked in the corners and around the edges. Other than that, we had a great time. Lots of activities for the little ones to do and very peaceful and quiet at night. read more

Absolutely loved this place. It was our first time taking a family of 8 there. We ended up staying at the executive lodge. Not exactly roughing it but with the hot temps it was nice. Plus it was near the entrance so we got more privacy and the fishing pond within a few steps. When we went down to the river it was a tad bit crowded so glad we were higher up on the hill away from it. There a Childrens pond we fished in and caught plenty of catfish. The younger kids loved it. You can get the license to fish also right up front for cheap. Theres also places to do smores at the locations. Every night roasting marshmallow - yumm!!! The river was great. I recommend getting water shoes or you'll regret it. Its soooo slippery. You can get them up front at the entrance store for cheap though. Worth every penny. The location itself has plenty to do. Water baloon wars, putt putt golf, playgroundm river floating, fishing, frisbee golf. There is a pool but it was sooooo crowded so we went straight to the river. It was 104 degrees out so felt woooonderful. Also - the staff was so friendly. I've seen mixed reviews but we didn't encounter a single rude person. Cant' wait to go back next year! read more

First, my family was looking forward to our first trip to Marval. We had spoke to many people that had been there before. Most of these people hadn't been in a couple years, but we thought let's try it. I called to make reservations on Friday so we could come the following Wednesday. I spoke to a lady on the phone and explained we had never been there and asked her if the pools and stuff was open. The lady said yes the pools were open, but they only allowed 30 people in the pool. She also stated everything else was open like putt putt and the kids could get craft stuff daily and take back to the site. She did say if we wanted to play basketball or cornhole we had to bring our own ball and bags. I also asked her to put us in an RV spot that she would camp in. I told her I didn't care full or partial hookup just wanted a nice one. The lady said how she would camp in site 216 if it was her. I took her advice and that was a bad idea. We showed up and it was in the middle of a large mud puddle and was far from level. I went up to the office and was able to get another site and had to pay the extra $50 for full hookup, but that's ok. We then went to rent a golf cart when we arrived. The lady at the desk told me I had to stand 6 feet away from my wife and 10 year old daughter. I explained who they were and she stated it didn't matter the owner makes the rules and she's expected to enforce them. At this point I should've asked for my money back, but decided to stay. We arrived on Wednesday and it was 77 degrees. I asked if the pool was open and was told no. The following day again I went to the office and asked about the pool. Again I was told it was closed even though it was 84 degrees out. The lady stated maintenance had to open it and have someone stationed at the pool and she didn't believe they had anyone. On Friday again I asked about the pool and was told it would be open. I began explaining I was told when o made the reservation it would be open the whole time I was there. A lady who had rented a cabin told me they open the pool for her and her family the day before for a couple hours and they were the only ones in the pool. The craft building gave my daughter four coloring papers, crayons and a bag with a few little plastic toys but would not allow her to do a tie dye shirt and was never there when we went to do putt putt. My 10 year old daughter was riding bicycle with her 9 year old cousin who had rented a cabin. They stopped and were talking and a man pulled up from Marval and told them they couldn't stand together and had to be 6 feet apart. This continued in the swimming pool where we were all told we had to stay 6 feet apart although we were all family. In closing I would not waste my money staying at Marval until they open everything up and realize family members can be with each other. We could have had as much fun at a state park for half the cost and wouldn't have been harassed by employees about distancing. I was lied to about what was open, but could understand 2 of the 5 days nothing open due to rain. The remaining 3 days should've had everything open for the price I spent. We had a great time at Marval over the 4th of July weekend. We stayed in a deluxe cabin with 2 adults and 2 kids. The bed and the futon were comfortable. The mats in the loft are better than camping, but definitely not super comfortable. The cabin was clean and neat. The River was high and fast, so we spent a lot of time at the pool. The zero entry was perfect for my 5 year old to play in without having to wear his life vest. However, the bathing load was too high, and the pool got pretty gross before the weekend was over (hair and food floating in the water). Marvel should schedule extra attention to the pools during high volume weekends. Especially when the river is too high and fast for the kids to play in. The people staying at Marval were friendly and respectful. I'm sure that can vary, but we didn't have any trouble. The kid activities were fun. My teenager was a little bored, but still enjoyed himself and would go back. The one thing we found really annoying was the golf carts. People like to just cruise around...and around...and around. Our cabin was off a gravel road, and the noise from the carts out just cruising was bothersome. Don't expect peace and quiet. Even with respectful people there's just too many in close proximity for it to feel really peaceful. read more

This place is outstanding. Just about everything you can imagine for the kids. We got a spot backing right up to the river and the kids spent the weekend fishing, swimming, playing putt-putt, making arts & crafts, playing in the video arcade, playing basketball, riding their bikes, scavenging for firewood, etc. The staff was pretty amazing too. Every few weeks since this trip, the boys ask when we're going back. It's definitely on their list of favorites now. read more

The park flooded due to major storms and had to shut down Memorial Day 2019.. We were very understanding when they said they would give us an extra day if we booked a different weekend. We ended up booking the following year 2020 for The same weekend. The problem is it is hard to book a year in advance. I called end of December to let them know we needed to cancel and expected a refund, but Sue told me that corporate doesn't do refunds. I had to call two more times before I got any help and when they did refund they still kept $40 of my total and refused to refund the entire amount. They held onto my money for well over a year and are refusing to credit the entire amount. We really enjoyed this park in 2018 but we will not be returning to Marval again. read more

For the past 7 years we have went to MarVal in October. For the past 7 years we have paid a $50 deposit. When I go to book I'm asked to pay in full now. Earlier this year I called questioning the deposit amount and was told it was a mistake and they will fix it. Well I go today to book and I'm asked to pay in full so I call. The lady that answered the phone had no idea how to answer my question??? So she the owner speaks to me. I'm told it has always been pay in full for October. The manor I was told this was not kind and understanding it was just plain RUDE and NO IT HASN'T BEEN THIS WAY FOR 3 YEARS. We go every year including last year!!! If it has always been this way why didn't the lady answering the phone know how to answer my question. The owner Karen was rude and unprofessional. We will have to go somewhere else for our fall getaway. So disappointment in your customer service. read more

This is a beautiful park. I'm sure kids love it here during the season. Reason for only three stars is this park is not big rig friendly. We are 13'2" high. The only road to the park has low hanging branches which beat up our top. Once in the park they have the same issues. Danger danger. Also, it's a large park with only one trash bin that is way out of the way for most sites. read more

My family rented a cabin over the weekend (April 2020) my 15yo son forgot his wallet. My husband called and spoke with the Manager Bill and told him that we would be down Monday after work (over an hour drive) to get the wallet. We show up to get the wallet and there is NO money! We had told them that the wallet had his birthday money in it. Bill said he and his wife were the only ones with access to the cabin and that his wife retrieved the wallet from the cabin. Bill and his wife were RUDE we had to ask to go look in the cabin again, there was no apology, nothing. We had a great time but if they are willing to steal from a child what else are they willing to do? read more

This is a great campground for families located on the lower Illinois River just a couple miles south of Lake Tenkiller Dam. They offer rv, tent sites and cabins. There is a swimming pool and horseback riding and the river is close for any fishermen. We stayed over the 4th a couple years back. There was a red white and blue parade-all the kids decorated up their bikes and golf carts, etc. for the parade around the campground. There was many kid activities, we all made tie-dye t-shirts one day for instance. The horseback riding was fun through the woods. The horses follow the same path head to tail but if you have never done it, its an easy time and the kids will like it read more

Do NOT go here! My cousins and their family stayed here for a weekend. They left their 15 year olds son's wallet in a hidden spot and when they got home they called the manager and told them they would come back Monday for it. The manager (Bill I believe was his name) admitted having it and only himself and his wife would have access to it and would see them then. Their son had all his birthday money in it, and while I won't disclose the amount, it was over the amount if stolen to be considered a felony, and when they arrived to pick it up, ALL the cash was GONE! Stolen! A police report has been filed and they are EXTREMELY rude about it and if they are willing to steal from a 15 year old child, is that somewhere your willing to stay with your personal information? I will NEVER and I will tell EVERYONE I know, and that's a lot of people, to never come to this establishment. read more
