I've came here twice in the last two weeks. I love this location because parking is so easy inconvenient. The food was solid. The first time I went to this location last week the food was amazing and served hot and the service was delicious. The second time I came here the other day... I was bummed because they ran out of the clam so I wasn't able to order the same soup I had. I ended up ordering something else. A big reason why I'm rating this location a 4/5 five stars because if you have a new item, you would think to order more clams than usual because of probably the increase in popularity of ppl ordering the new item. And it was still pretty early in the day that there should be no reason that they would run out of clams. anyway, service was quick and the restaurant itself is pretty clean. They do need to do better at cleaning the tables outside though.
When in Orange County, you have to get Asian food! So we decided to try something new by where we were staying. This restaurant is located off Enterprise road in a shopping center next to a coffee shop. The restaurant is cafe style. You select what number you want and tell the employee behind the plexiglass. Employee will provide your food to you on a tray through a little hole where you can add more ingredients for a price. As this restaurant features udon, I had to try it . They make fresh noodles that you can accompany with various tempura items that includes shrimp, pumpkin, zucchini and more. I selected shrimp tempura with udon noodles in a broth. I got a big portion for approximately 12 dollars. I enjoyed my dish although it is very salty. There is ample seating inside. Plus there is additional seating outside on the patio. There is a very large parking lot shared among the other stores and restaurants. This mall is very popular so parking can be challenging.
Craving some udon while we were passing through the area so we decided to stop here for a quick early dinner on a weekend. It was quiet and service was quick. Set up like a Chipotle and Subway. You order your main dish and you move along to customize it by adding tempuras (extra fee), vegetables (extra fee), green onions, or tempura flakes. The udon soup base and noodles was good. The tempura batter on my shrimp tempuras was too thick and not light and flaky. I wanted to add vegetables to my udon and wish they were cooked first or cooked with my soup. Dumping uncooked vegetables into my soup just cooled everything down right away. There was a lot of seating inside and on their large outdoor patio. The place was very clean.
I love this local udon spot! So glad it opened up locally. Love the #1 Nikutama udon with beef a poached egg in a dashi broth. Love the premium tendon tempura with rice bowl. We also love the new bolognese udon noodles. The line moved fast. Parking is plentiful. Staff is okay depends on the day--service getting better each time we go. Never had an issue with finding a table to sit. Love the Al La Carte choices: zucchini tempura, potatoe crochette, fried dumplings.
I found you Marugame Udon! I have seen multiple locations in OC but this was my first experience. I was exploring some of the newer restaurants and business in the Aliso plaza and had my heart set on Coco Curry house but Marugame just felt right. After a hard exhausting week what better way to treat myself than a warm bowl of noodles. It's like a warm huge but not your typical pho or ramen options. I want Udon! It's that feel when you found exactly what you were looking for like Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. The best part is this is Aliso Viejo so there wasn't crazy parking or lines. I was a little overwhelmed with the options. I wanted to go full big back and try everything on the menu. Instead I thought about keeping my gains so I ordered just one item, the tomato beef and it didn't disappoint. I savored the broth and slurped the noodles and it was just the right amount of food without being overly filling. I would probably order more if I was super hungry. This simple dish made me a fan of Marugame. I will be back to try my soup with more customization and toppings. I didn't do my research I advanced so I will definitely check out my Yelp buddies creations and photos before my next visit. I highly recommend.
Good pricing and great flavors, avoid doordash ordering if you plan to come in for dine in or pickup since they overcharge per item before anything else. Quick processes to build your bowl so ordering goes pretty fast too. Perfect place for a quick bite before shopping next door at 99 Ranch.
It was a cold cloudy day in the OC and udon was a must. They recently opened more Marugame in South County. I ordered the number #3 Beef with soft poached egg with green onions & tempura bits. The tempura bar was fun to explore with many options from veggies to meat. I opted for a shrimp tempura, pumpkin and chicken thigh (dark meat). The udon was so lovely and warm. The beef was nicely seasoned with the egg. The udon noodles were nice and chewy. The pumpkin was so creamy and not too sweet. The chicken was great add for crispy crunch. This was a fun lunch spot with quick service and tons of seating options indoor/out.
Marugame is continuing to expand and now has another location in South OC in the Aliso Viejo area. This spot is located in the same plaza as the 99 Ranch Market where there is a good amount of parking spots. They have a solid amount of seating options, both indoors and outdoors. Wifey and I stopped for lunch on some empty stomachs. You order up at the front and then you can take your food to whatever seat is open. I ended up getting the Beef Tomatama and wifey got the Nikutama. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here and left with full and satisfied stomachs. Portions are generous and the flavors are on point. All of the staff are very friendly and welcoming. We will definitely be back for another meal next time we are nearby!
We usually frequent the Costa Mesa location but wanted to check out Aliso's. Love how much seating they have and parking is super easy. I usually get the chicken katsu curry because it is one of my favorites. The bowl was mostly rice and the chicken katsu was much smaller than I remember/am used to at the other location.
Dont be discouraged by the long lines. It moves quickly and is worth it. Seating available inside and outdoors. The creamy broth is my go-to. Lots of flavor, Chewy soft udon noodles and the char shu has both the salty slightly-sweet flavor. Jammy eggs cooked to perfection. The chicken curry katsu over rice was a hit with my teen and as was the featured cheese-tomato-curry chicken katsu udon. The tempuras (egg, zucchini and shrimp) are light and crispy. We had to get a second, separate chicken katsu because it was so tasty. I recommend the calamansi drink to wash it all down. Refreshing!

I got my usual nikutama udon bowl, I go back and forth between this one and the curry nikutama. I also always get the tamagoyaki, but this time I tried the sweet potato tempura too. Everything was so delicious and comforting, especially since it's been cold lately.
This is counter service. They are really quick! I wish the tempura was made to order so it would be hot and crispy, the heating lamps can only do so much. I felt like this place was ok- it's a cheap meal but I wasn't WOW'd.
Marugame Udon is like the Chipotle of udon. I don't mean that in a bad way; you can get quality udon and other noodles without a long wait. They have plenty of seating both inside and outside. This location felt very clean and brand new. My husband got the tempura udon and I got the katsu curry.Udon was excellent, but the curry wasn't the best. I do appreciate that they have something other than just noodles tho.
Always a fam favorite! Whenever the kids and I are together for lunch, Marugame is ALWAYS a top contender! This Saturday afternoon, we gave in to our cravings and stopped by. And as always, Marugame did NOT disappoint! The udon is always fresh & chewy perfection, the broth is flavorful as ever (and even hotter now, which is a plus!) and I love that they now have a self-serve bar for green onion & tempura toppings. Gotta love customizing your bowl just the way you like it! The vibe is chill and comforting, with plenty of spacious seating and great service. It's the kind of place that keeps us coming back for more! Highly recommend this location, ALWAYS! read more

Went to Marugame Udon for the first time and really liked it. I got the Nikutama Bowl and it was super delicious. The employees were friendly and patient. I recommend getting extra tempura flakes and green onions. They are free. They also have fresh ginger at the condiment bar and that was bomb. It's a simple udon place, nothing too fancy, but it's quick and very clean. It was crowded when I went, but it was still manageable. I didn't get any tempura this time, but I'll definitely be back to try it. I got the large udon bowl and it was honestly too much for one person. If you plan on coming here often, make sure to sign up for the rewards. Overall, really good udon and I'll be back again. read more

I love the beef and my husband likes the Tonkotsu. My foodie babies enjoy eating here as well. Be careful, the tempura is so delicious but it definitely add up. I tried their Calamanci juice and it was great! Service is always quick and the store is kept clean. read more

This place was recommended by a friend of ours and man was it good!! Ambience- 10/10 - it's really a chill and relaxed interior but they are *making the noodles in front of you* Food-10/10 - again, *making* *the food* *in front of you* What more could you ask for?? The udon noodles were so fresh, my husband got the pork udon and he said the pork was cooked great as well. I got the katsu teriyaki rice bowl, the chicken was crispy and fresh and they make their teriyaki sauce in house! Got green onions and tempura crisps on top and it was a dream. The have a cafeteria style set up so after you get your order you slide down and have the option of adding on different tempura options. So dangerous. We got a tempura chicken and tempura pumpkin and they were also great! My mom got the gyudon and loved her meal. Even the baby loved the food! Everyone has their favorite kind of noods, and honestly I never really gave myself a chance to truly enjoy udon...until now. My husband and I stopped here for lunch after running errands in the area. This location is huge! We walked in, welcomed with the traditional, "irasshaimasse!", checked out the menu, placed our order, saw the array of crispy fried tempura (got a pork sausage tempura...yum!), paid at the counter, and found a table inside (which there were plenty of inside and out). The process gave me high school cafeteria feels! Actually, I honestly like the straight forward simplicity...get in, eat, get out (and on) with your day! LOL. We both decided to try their ("most loved") Signature Nikutama Udon. The thinly sliced beef was tender, the broth was savory and not overly sweet, the udon noodles had the perfect chew, and the soft boiled egg, green onions and tempura flakes complimented the entire bowl of goodness! Had the curry nikutama which was alright, as I wished it was more flavorful. Also got tempura shrimp and sweet potato which went really well with the tempura sauce! Overall loved the open kitchen concept of being able to see fresh noodles being prepared!! Staff and environment were very friendly!! read more

This time, I decided to try their chicken katsu curry. I ordered takeout, and the food was ready in under 10 minutes! Once again, shoutout to their thoughtful packaging , everything came in separate containers. Overall, the dish was solid, especially for the price. Nothing particularly stood out, but nothing was bad either. It uses the same curry sauce as their curry Nikutama, which works well with the katsu , rich and flavorful. I chose the udon base because their curry sauce is thicker than most, and it clings to the noodles nicely. My only complaint is that I wish there was a bit more udon in the bowl and the chicken had more of a thicker batter to be more crispy. But all in all, I was very happy with the meal. read more

I've been to the Marugame at the Matsuya food court in Costa Mesa, and the taste here is just as good-but this location is even better! It's a standalone restaurant with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Everything is brand new with a clean, modern aesthetic. The udon noodles and broth were delicious. I came around 8 PM, and unfortunately, they were out of a lot of the tempura add-ons, which was a bit disappointing. Luckily, I was still able to grab some squid tempura. Overall, it's still a great spot for dinner- just wish they kept the tempura add-ons fully stocked until closing time. read more
It's basically a high-end Yoshinoya. Located in Aliso Viejo, Orange County, Southern California, the newly opened branch has an imposing exterior. The gyudon tastes slightly sweet, as if it's made for Americans. The overall combination of the rice, meat, and sauce, to be blunt, is really just at the level of a Yoshinoya beef bowl. Nikutama Udon is available hot or cold. The noodles have an average texture, a far cry from the quality at Marugame Monzo in LA's Little Tokyo (despite the similar names, the two are unrelated). Staff ask if you want to add green onions and tempura flakes. It might sound odd, but I think those fried flakes are actually the best ingredient lol The soft-boiled egg has both the white and yolk half-cooked (in a good way), and they melt into the noodle soup as soon as you pick them up with chopsticks. The green tea tastes just average. This restaurant operates with a service procedure similar to Subway's build-your-own sandwich model. We wanted something warm for a cold SoCal day and found Marugame was close to us and we love udon so we decided to try this place. I got the beef udon which I liked. It reminded me of the udon in Japan and I enjoyed it. I also got the shrimp tempura which I also loved! I thought it was overall good quality. I would come back for their lunch specials. read more

First time at a Marugame Udon. Love the concept! Choose your base, and your toppings individually! This is a newly opened location. It's big, clean, well lighted, and lots of room (indoor and outdoor seating). We ordered the Curry Katsu Don, Creamy Broth Tonkotsu, Gyudon Bowl, Dashi Base Udon and shrimp, sweet potato and pumpkin tempura. The curry katsu was very comforting. Chicken was crispy and tender with warm curry sauce, not thick or heavy. So good over rice. I just gobbled it all up. The Creamy Udon Tonkotsu had a nice, light, flavorful broth. Pork was so thin though but was tender and tasty. Tempura had light crispy batter. Tempura sauce was a bit salty for me. Gyudon bowl had lots of tender, tasty beef slices. Dashi Udon broth is light and tasty. Ooooh, almost forgot. They have a yummy calamansi drink that is so refreshing. Will definitely be back to try the other menu items. read more

Fast and easy! Definitely fixes the cravings. I thought the curry udon was good but the soup is a bit thick. The soft egg was very well made! I liked the beef texture. Tonkatsu was pretty status quo. Parking: plenty in lot Convenient location next to new 99 ranch market! read more

Finally made it to one and I was not disappointed. It's a huge corner spot in a brand new development so everything is light, bright and clean. There's a ton of seating both inside and outside. It's fairly well organized with several menu boards placed at the start of a cafeteria style ordering line. The initial order taker was friendly and helpful, especially since this was my first time. I ordered the #1 since it was labeled as the Most Favored so I thought it was a good place to start. I went down the line and added a couple pieces of shrimp tempura and sweet potato tempura. The dashi (broth) had lots of flavor and enjoyed every bite. I can't wait to go back and get the #9 curry udon, which my daughter claims is the best. read more
