I found you Marugame Udon! I have seen multiple locations in OC but this was my first experience. I was exploring some of the newer restaurants and business in the Aliso plaza and had my heart set on Coco Curry house but Marugame just felt right. After a hard exhausting week what better way to treat myself than a warm bowl of noodles. It's like a warm huge but not your typical pho or ramen options. I want Udon! It's that feel when you found exactly what you were looking for like Harold and Kumar go to White Castle. The best part is this is Aliso Viejo so there wasn't crazy parking or lines. I was a little overwhelmed with the options. I wanted to go full big back and try everything on the menu. Instead I thought about keeping my gains so I ordered just one item, the tomato beef and it didn't disappoint. I savored the broth and slurped the noodles and it was just the right amount of food without being overly filling. I would probably order more if I was super hungry. This simple dish made me a fan of Marugame. I will be back to try my soup with more customization and toppings. This spot is located in the same plaza as the 99 Ranch Market where there is a good amount of parking spots. They have a solid amount of seating options, both indoors and outdoors. Wifey and I stopped for lunch on some empty stomachs. You order up at the front and then you can take your food to whatever seat is open. I ended up getting the Beef Tomatama and wifey got the Nikutama. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed our dining experience here and left with full and satisfied stomachs. Dont be discouraged by the long lines. It moves quickly and is worth it. Seating available inside and outdoors. The creamy broth is my go-to. Lots of flavor, Chewy soft udon noodles and the char shu has both the salty slightly-sweet flavor. Jammy eggs cooked to perfection. The chicken curry katsu over rice was a hit with my teen and as was the featured cheese-tomato-curry chicken katsu udon. The tempuras (egg, zucchini and shrimp) are light and crispy. Marugame Udon is my go to spot for some comforting Japanese udon. I didn't know that they opened up a location in Aliso Viejo so we went to try it out. The restaurant is located in a plaza with many other food and drink spots. They have plenty of tables both inside and outside the restaurant. I got my usual nikutama udon bowl, I go back and forth between this one and the curry nikutama. I also always get the tamagoyaki, but this time I tried the sweet potato tempura too. I've been to the Marugame at the Matsuya food court in Costa Mesa, and the taste here is just as good-but this location is even better! It's a standalone restaurant with plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. Everything is brand new with a clean, modern aesthetic. The udon noodles and broth were delicious. I came around 8 PM, and unfortunately, they were out of a lot of the tempura add-ons, which was a bit disappointing. Luckily, I was still able to grab some squid tempura. This time, I decided to try their chicken katsu curry. I ordered takeout, and the food was ready in under 10 minutes! Once again, shoutout to their thoughtful packaging , everything came in separate containers. Overall, the dish was solid, especially for the price. Nothing particularly stood out, but nothing was bad either. It uses the same curry sauce as their curry Nikutama, which works well with the katsu , rich and flavorful. I chose the udon base because their curry sauce is thicker than most, and it clings to the noodles nicely. My only complaint is that I wish there was a bit more udon in the bowl and the chicken had more of a thicker batter to be more crispy. But all in all, I was very happy with the meal. read more

It's basically a high-end Yoshinoya. Located in Aliso Viejo, Orange County, Southern California, the newly opened branch has an imposing exterior. The gyudon tastes slightly sweet, as if it's made for Americans. The overall combination of the rice, meat, and sauce, to be blunt, is really just at the level of a Yoshinoya beef bowl. Nikutama Udon is available hot or cold. The noodles have an average texture, a far cry from the quality at Marugame Monzo in LA's Little Tokyo (despite the similar names, the two are unrelated). Staff ask if you want to add green onions and tempura flakes. It might sound odd, but I think those fried flakes are actually the best ingredient lol The soft-boiled egg has both the white and yolk half-cooked (in a good way), and they melt into the noodle soup as soon as you pick them up with chopsticks. The green tea tastes just average. This restaurant operates with a service procedure similar to Subway's build-your-own sandwich model. Chicken was crispy and tender with warm curry sauce, not thick or heavy. So good over rice. I just gobbled it all up. The Creamy Udon Tonkotsu had a nice, light, flavorful broth. Pork was so thin though but was tender and tasty. Tempura had light crispy batter. Tempura sauce was a bit salty for me. Gyudon bowl had lots of tender, tasty beef slices. Just visited this location for the first time today. I had the Tan Tan udon with imitation meat and veggies in spicy broth. Added a half soft boiled egg for an extra $2. It was okay. A bit too salty. My guests had the tonkotsu udon and the beef guyon rice with extra tempura on the side. They liked it okay. Tonkotsu udon has a big piece of pork belly, which is most likely fat with a real thin strip of meat. Not sure if I will be back again. read more
