Wow, with these reviews you'd think this was a last-resort type of option. In reality, Martz is Scranton's lifeline to New York City. Since I moved to NYC, I've been taking the Martz bus to visit my family in Scranton pretty regularly. Let's say 6 round trips per year. I have never had any type of issue. I don't think the bus has ever been even ONE MINUTE late leaving Scranton or leaving PABT. While you do get a nice mix of working professionals from the stops in the Poconos, your stereotypes about *who* is taking the bus if not traveling for work are going to be pretty accurate. Is it painful to pay $133.99 to have to sit next to someone who spends the whole trip eating and talking on their phone? Yes. Have I witnessed people drink personal alcohol on the bus? Yes. Did I once witness a man--while on the moving bus--call Martz customer service (rather than speaking to the driver) to ask for the bus to be stopped due to cosmetic damage on the bus's exterior? Yes. Still, these people are greatly outnumbered by respectful commuters. It's not perfect, the price is way higher than you'd expect, but it gets the job done. The person who works at the Scranton terminal was really helpful. That being said, the company sucks. You can call customer service but nobody will answer (even when you are second in line) or call you back. The online reservation system is confusing. It's actually one area where Greyhound is pretty good. I had no idea if my bus was late or not, and to switch to different bus is impossible online. If I could give a negative I would. They had my boyfriend arrest for credit card fraud, only to realize that they had the wrong person. My boyfriend has a very common name. All they had to do was verify the credit card or his identity. Instead everyone was disrespectful and treated us like we're low life criminals, assumed the worst, never once stopping to do their due diligence. Worst company ever. Terrible costumer service. Poor systems and poor communication. NEVER ever again will I do business with them. Since when does a refund make up for having someone arrested and jeopardizing their future over a mistake make up for things?!? read more

Terrible service. So bad I did not even get the chance to use it. Booked and paid two days in advance to travel from Scranton to New York. On the day of the journey in the early afternoon when it was time to board the coach, I was one of the unlucky commuters near the back of the queue, trusting that nothing would go wrong. As it was almost my time to board, myself and a few others were informed that the coach was full! So that was it. I had to cancel my day to New York as there was no other coach available that could get me to New York at a good time. That might sound trivial for a local, but I'm from England, so missing out on New York was a big deal. It is totally unacceptable that having paid in advance, there is no seat allocation or control to ensure that all passengers who have paid in advance can board. read more

I'm not really a fan of this place. The buses are never on schedule and I have to wait forever. The building itself is small and dirty. Scranton must be ashamed to have this terrible little bus stop while Wilkes-Barre has a giant and beautiful Intermodal center. I really wish Martz Trailways had better security. I was catching the last bus late one night when propositioned by an older gentleman. I am not homophobic at all and a huge supporter of LGTBQ rights, having volunteered much time to the Rainbow Alliance and produced several "It Gets Better" videos - I don't want to be propositioned by anyone, male or female, when I'm tired and just want to go home. Him: Hi, what's your name? Me: Nicholas. Him: Nicholas, you're pretty young to be taking the bus. Me: I'm just on my way home. Him: Do you have a secret area? Me: What's a secret area? Him: A place where you can go and just do whatever you want. Mine is over there, behind those bushes. Apparently a lot of gay men cruise the Scranton bus station after dark. They use the bushes across the parking lot for their anonymous sexual encounters. This was an older man, who no doubt grew up during a time less progressive than our own. He probably had to hide his sexuality from others or risk persecution and embarrassment. I empathize with him, and others from his generation who lived during an intolerant period but this is a security problem. I have emailed Martz about the lack of proper video surveillance but never received a response. I was also on a bus once when the driver hit a car in the parking lot. read more

The pricing is very affordable,..the buses comfortable,...and if you get a really great bus driver he let's everybody know that long phone conversations are not permitted, OR music/ TV shows running throughout the trip. Unfortunately today I got the bus driver who doesn't give a darn so I'm listening to someone's TV show or movie that I shouldn't have to do. What a stop, I've spent hours here waiting for bus transfers and also to be picked up before. It's probably the worst of the stops on the Grayhound bus line from NYC to Toronto. Dirty and dingy, but if you have time to kill, run over to Steamtown Mall and get a meal and see the set up in there that's dedicated to the NBC show the Office. This stop is relativly safe though and there's seats and some vending machines. Could use a renovation and some outlets to charge electronics and wifi. Overall I'll wait until Binghamton to use the restroom if need be. read more

This morning I drove a friend and his girl to catch a bus from Scranton to Maryland on a three day trip. They had paid tickets and department time on their bus. We had 45 mins to catch the bus, from west of Tunkhannock. On our way, would have made it 15 minutes before departure time, when my friend, who was tracking that bus online, noticed that it had left the terminal already, 15 mins before it's scheduled departure time. He had me drive him to Mt Pocono to catch the bus as he continued to track it. Caught up with the bus and dropped them off so they could resume their trip. The whole thing took me way out of my way, making it impossible to get back to Tunkhannock to get our granddaughter to work. Would have been plenty of time to get her to work on time if the bus had not left the Scranton terminal earlier than scheduled departure time. Not very happy with Martz. We had used their service in the distant past, but hope we never need to ever again. In my opinion, it was irresponsible and inconsiderate of the bus driver to leave paid customers hanging by not waiting for all paid customers to check in and board the bus. Lousy poor service. Need competition for over the road bus service in this area. read more

This firm was very good once & scored good again. The coaches are very modern & neat & got all the amenities. Stations are good & got great people for that matter as well. Oh yeah they got a firi bit of garages so if you got coach issues with your firm if you're with another guy don't worry because they're going to see you're all good & set. read more

Over-priced because they have a monopoly on the market, which also means they can get away with carting people around in outdated busses, offering the worst customer service both on- and off-site, and allowing incredibly incompetent drivers to operate their vehicles. The busses never arrive on time. Why is there no other bus company in Scranton? Some competition would easily light a fire under Martz's ass or, better yet, put them out of business. Meanwhile, this horrible company is only expanding. There's no logical reason--other than Martz's disgusting greed--that people should have to pay close to $100 for a Scranton/NYC round trip. This company symbolizes Scranton's decline and corruption; I can't wait to see what happens when--if--a company like Megabus or BoltBus arrives in the area. read more

This is the fourth year I have been riding Martz buses to and from Philly. The staff are really great and remember my name and what tickets I need when I walk up to the counter. The bus drivers are friendly and I have almost always had a peaceful bus ride. The new bus station is a great update to the older building, and I'm glad they were able to provide a more modern setup. One thing that I notice some people here and on Facebook complain about is the internet speeds on the buses. They are sufficient for surfing the web, but aren't fast enough for videos and downloads. I understand that it's probably unrealistic to expect for ~50 people to be able to watch movies at one time. I usually work around this by making sure I download what I want to watch or listen to beforehand. Price wise, the student discount on round trip tickets is a pretty good deal if you take into account gas and tolls. I don't have a car at the moment, so it definitely beats a rental car. Overall, I continue to ride Martz buses due to the quick, friendly service traveling to and from Philly and to NYC. I would recommend this service to anyone who would rather watch a movie or sleep than deal with the traffic on 76 at a decent price. read more

Too much to list but safe to say that it is hands down the WORST bus service of all! Being the only game in town affords them not to give a shit! Increasing rates in their supposed 'economy' service by 50% without announcing anything is preposterous! Increasing the reate even a penny is too much on the regular commuter service. Merging tour groups with commuter riders is a moronic idea. A shame because the employees seem clueless although they are nice people. Management hides behind the crappy service instead of showing balls and showing up at the bus stops themselves and seeing whats happening first hand. The DWG to NYC commute is disastrous! The buses are smelly and filthy. The drivers are beyond sad. I wish to GOD that a competitor would drive these guys out of business or at least show them how its done! The ONE driver that we loved out of the DWG at 6:40 am was taken off for personal reasons which we don't fault her has left us bare!! nyc travelers notice...met at planet fitness in scranton on a saturday at 7. left at 10 after for stops at marywood then u of s. didnt get on 81 till 8:10! bus was dirty. blacj near vents, shades torn..dirty spoon on floor..no garbage bag...didnt get to nyc till close to 11. then instead of parking near times square first had to go to port auth. then parked soooo far from times square you had to take a cab there. same deal on way home. b there at 7. left city after 8. planet fitness first stop of the 3. got there at 1o30. was never like this. someone must be running a more efficient trip. read more
