I can't believe no one has reviewed Marty's on Yelp! They're the best...the only bad part is that they seldom come to where I live/work. Mostly they hang out around NKy, and when they are in downtown, they're never at some of the more popular events (City Flea, Washington Park area). I heard about them from a friend who mentioned that Marty was his art teacher at NKY University and I was so intrigued! I first caught them when they were at the Food Truck Alley during Taste of Cincinnati and I fell in love! So much better than Taste of Belgium! They have a great balance of crunchy and soft and it's a little cheaper than ToB as well! ($4.00 for some milk, butter, sugar, and flour is a bit steep...) I've never tried anything except the original waffle, but they do have a fruit and cream option, where the cream is a Bourbon Cream...I've been wanting to try it but I can't imagine that it would be better than the original itself! I was really looking forward to trying Marty's. The waffles seem to be made with pretzel dough. The four waffles we ordered (plain waffle not pictured,) fell short. Our waffles were up as soon as we ordered them. The waffles themselves were clearly made well in advance. All were hard and cold. We ended up throwing out about half of the food. The salted caramel waffle was supposed to come with bourbon whipped cream yet was served with plain. The whipped cream itself tasted fresh. The strawberry waffle had a decent amount of strawberries. I love a good waffle. I mean there is just nothing better. Marty's has good waffles. They aren't those big soggy waffles you find at breakfast places. They are dense and chewy with a little sweetness. Mmmm.... Had their special at Beerfest downtown a couple of weeks ago. A waffle with peanut butter, whipped cream, chocolate sauce and bacon. The waffle was doing a bit too much for my tastes and I ended up scraping a lot of the toppings off just to get to the good stuff. Had Marty's Waffles at Taste of Cincinnati, and it was awesome! I split the sea salt caramel waffle with bourbon whipped cream with my husband. To be fair I definitely split that thing like 80/20 because I wasn't going to give up that waffle! It was delish. There was a lot of salt, which was a nice touch because it almost felt like I was eating a salted pretzel with caramel. The waffle itself was soft, chewy, warm, and perfect. After my somewhat disappointing trip to Pitabilities at the Springfield Food Truck Competition--and Jules' much more rewarding trip to Ramen Rickshaw--we were both ready for some dessert. As such, Marty's Waffles was our next stop in the festival. Now, we suffered the same problem at Marty's Waffles as I did at Pitabilities--by the time that we got to the front of the line, the waffle stand was out of a third of their menu! That said, the option we settled on was utterly phenomenal. Simple, really: it was nothing more than a waffle, sea salt, caramel, and a bourbon whipped cream. Ohhh, man! Let me tell you! The waffle was just a touch overdone for my taste, but for this, it became almost reminiscent of a well-made soft pretzel, touching a spectacular balance of sweet and salty. The whipped cream lost some of its consistency during the heat, but the cooler sections on the bottom had just the right hit of booze to add a great flavor to the whipped cream. OMG!!! I make a pretty mean Belgian waffle at home, so normally wouldn't purchase one, but Marty's is above and beyond! First, you can smell the sweet and saltiness coming from their truck. Sorta like a mixture of a waffle and a soft pretzel. Then, when I read the menu, there was no way I was going to let this pass me by. I opted for the salted caramel waffle with the bourbon whipped cream. The waffle was the perfect amount of crispy and chewy, and the taste was out of this world! What can I say my family and I will go places where we see the orange truck.The waffles are awesome, just recently went to a festival and purchased a dozen waffles and couldn't stop eating them once we got home... Staff is super friendly and would recommend this truck to any function ( weddings graduations b day party's ) that you might have because after eating these waffles for the first time about a year ago you will not be disappointed and you will continue to follow this food truck where ever it goes.
